Missouri Republicans still trying to push the crazy Obama birth certificate story

Fifteen Republican members of the Missouri General Assembly have signed on to a state constitutional amendment that appears aimed at advancing the claims of the fringe movement that doubts President Barack Obama's eligibility to serve as president.
The language is contained in a proposed "voter’s bill of rights," which would serve "as a defense against corruption, fraud, and tyranny."
The proposed amendment states:
For candidates who are required by the Constitution of the United States to be natural born citizens, the secretary of state shall request an official copy of the candidate’s birth certificate. Other certifications, such as a certificate of live birth, shall not be accepted. Should any candidate fail to provide an official birth certificate within thirty days of the request by the secretary of state, his or her name shall not be placed on the ballot.
The Birthers, as they're known, have focused on the State of Hawaii's refusal to release the original of Obama's birth certificate, as opposed to official copies; Hawaii state law bars the release of the original.

The Coco Solo Naval Hospital wasn't built and accepting patients until Sept, 1943; McCain was 5-6 years old and living in the U.S. at the time.
McCain was born in and a Natural Born Citizen of Panama.
I don't have a problem with it... easy enough to meet the requirement in the future, and might actually squash some real shenanigans. It's still a shame you can't convince these morons that Obama's election was legal, but the proposal doesn't bother me.

About 10 years back, when the Republicans took over both houses of the Legislature for the first time, no work could be accomplished because the Republicans in the House would drown out the Dems when they got up to speak, with catcalls and epithets. This is a true story. They were so uncivilized that it actually made the papers. This is just one more indication of their nastiness. Well, they better enjoy their own idiocy while they can. The recession is hitting Missouri pretty hard. Most of these guys will be gone next election.
Guess they just don't see it that Oblama won a majority votes in the country and there is no way they can take it from Obama. They figure if they can keep on this birth certificate that will let them take away the presidency from Obama. One way or other they want him out of office because they are a bunch of racists. It would be more productive if instead of providing an original birth certificate, any potential MO candidates should show an original high school diploma instead. This would of course mean that home schoolers would automatically be excluded from consideration. Works for me.

We have Ashcroft, always-imbibing Kit Bond, Tiny Blunt and his felonious father, Roy, and a half-ass neocon Legislature. They are all wingnuts of the first order, so this doesn't surprise me at all. Remember, Missouri is a very rural State, with two decent sized cities, St. Louis and KC, two big towns, Columbia and Springfield, as a lot of soybean fields in between. We are also the home of the very infamous Rush Limbaugh. Need I really say more?

My state of Maine became a state March 15, 1820. Because neither the pro-slavery or the anti-slavery sides wanted its opponents to gain ground in terms of numbers, a compromise was made that allowed Missouri to become a slave state while we became a free state.
Sounds to me that Missouri needs to address their own history and get off their high horse about any "voters bill of rights."

I wish Obama would just produce something publically that would just put this to rest. Unfortunately he hasn't.
As a result this issue is NOT going to go away because instead of producing a verified copy of his birth certificate, Obama has spent almost $1 million on attorney fees fighting attempts to get him to produce it, as well as deep sixing college records which likewise might show he attended university as a foreign student. There was one "live bith" document posted on the internet that was judged a poor forgery by a couple of experts in this field.
The irony of the whole thing was at the time that McCain was likewise known to have been born in Panama, so he too would have failed to qualify. I think the Congress passed some law though saying his being in an American protectorate made him OK -- but really it wasn't.
I voted for Obama but honestly I am disappointed he hasn't taken the obvious steps which would close this issue once and for all.
The argument seems to be that if he wasn't a natural born American, he isn't eligible to be president, which means the first time someone comes before a court under a law that Obama signed, they will have the opportunity to supeona Obama to produce his birth certificate. And it is certain someone will. Already there has been one Iraq veteran who has said he won't follow orders because he doesn't believe Obama is a legitemate commander in chief. This whole issue has the potential to create a constitutional crisis right at a time when we really don't need it if he continues to not resolve this issue one way or another.
And I know, I know, I will have everyone here heaping scorn on me here, I'm ready for it, but honestly, if Obama is skirting the law on this one, it seems to me we are no longer a country of laws but are instead stuck with Bush-slick. I'm pointing this out not because I want Republicans in power, but because I want this country back to being the constitutionally driven nation it was prior to Bush coming to power. I'm pointing this out because no matter where you stand on this issue, I don't believe Obama has handled it very well so far and that it has the potential to fester in ways we can't afford right now.
All he has to do is produce a verified copy from the state of Hawaii and the issue dies. The longer he tries to ignore this issue, the more these crackpots are going to chase him. It also raises questions about the type of advice he is getting. And if his popularity begins to fall, this could become a major distraction.

Presumably Obama could get a copy of his original birth certificate, just as you or I could. And releasing it to the public in a public way would be good politics, if only to silence his critics on this issue. Like it or not, millions have become aware that this question is floating around.
Again, my main concern is that he hasn't handled this very well.

Obama is giving ammunition to the Haters by not quashing this issue. He should ask the Hawaii Legislature to pass a law permitting the release of the original copy of his birth certificate. Once he does this, the Wing Nuts collapse.

Passport/Visa stamps showing his mom was elsewhere when he was born? An affadavit that someone saw him sneaking BACK into the country? As Carl Sagan said, "Extreme claims require extreme proof."

That this is happening in Missouri is no surprise, as there doesn't seem to be any intelligent design to this attack. I have to wonder if the validity of John McCain's status as a "real" American would evolve a set of legs if that were also scrutinized by the Show Me folks.

As of last year, if not sooner, you need a passport to enter Canada and to re-enter US from Mexico. You *used to* only need a birth cert. to enter Canada.

They aren't the only ones calling for a birth certificate. In the state of TN in the state house you got 4 reps there too trying to push for Obama's birth certificate. I will say this, from now on everyone that runs for any government office has to show their birth certificates.
On June 7th, this website reported that the Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women and Children in Honolulu posted on its website
a letter on White House stationery dated January 24th (since scrubbed), in which Obama wrote, "As a beneficiary of the excellence of Kapi'olani Medical Center -- the place of my birth -- I am pleased to add my voice to your chorus of supporters" -- even though Obama himself has previously claimed to have been born at Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu, a claim backed up by his sister Maya.
Until June 7th, even United Press International (UPI) and Snopes.com contained statements that Obama was born at the Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu. Here is a screen capture from Snopes.com that says, "Barack Hussein Obama was born at the Queen's Medical Center." Today, Snopes.com claims that "Barack Hussein Obama, was born on 4 August 1961 at the Kapiolani Medical Center." Snopes claims they made the change because Wikipedia made the change.

The United States Justice Foundation (USJF) served officials at Occidental College with a subpoena to produce records concerning Barack Obama's attendance there during the 1980's, because those records could document whether he was attending as a foreign national. You see, Mr. Obama attended the school on a scholarship -- and there are questions as to whether the financial aid he received was reserved for foreign students. The Obama attorneys have bent over backward to block us. He doesn't want anyone to see those records. He's STILL trying to hide them; those financial records STILL have not been released.
Question,has any other president prior to Obama had to show their birth certificate? Hell No becuase they were white!
