Rocking the Snowe with Salt

The Villagers always love to attack us liberal bloggers and leave conservative bloggers alone. I know in their hearts they can't stand the dirty hippies that we are, but then I read this post by my pal John Cole and I realized something:

The moment I heard Snowe was going to vote for the bill, I began furiously refreshing Red State for the reaction. Finally, they deliver:
---
That is right, folks. To show unhappy they are, they are going to ask you to buy rock salt through their amazon store and mail it to Olympia Snowe. They don’t call them the Red State Strike Farce for nothing.

Seriously, how do I make a joke about this?

(You have to check out the screen grab Cole has. It is "the joke," Mr. Cole.)

They are too stupid to be taken seriously even by the John Harwoods of the pundit class so I know why they do it. Because we do have political influence and it bothers the Beltway media elites profoundly. I'd say we're doing our job. Now pack up your rock salt and get to UPS.

Is thoroughly scrutinized for anthrax and other bio chem attacks, I think it would be pretty f'ing stupid for anyone to mail rock salt to a member of Congress....

Unless they want the ol' "knock at the door".

Idiots.

The main post misses the essential point and focuses only on the froth.

We have junk politics and the observation of junk politics.

The Senate Finance Committee, which was designated by the Pope of Hope as the ostensible central authority in this Kabuki Theater rendition of health care reform, has crafted a bill so bad that one of the Republicans could actually support it.

This is done under the false flag of bipartisanship in order to gain political cover.

Political cover will be needed when the full ramifications of this sell-out to Corporate interests become more widely understood.

They significantly cut the depth of the non participation penalties because they know they will crucified by the public with anything severe. And yet the severe penalties is what is meaningful to the insurance companies who are the primary ones being represented.

Without the penalties and forced compliance the insurance companies will raise their rates, they were promised a gazillion subsidized new suckers for their crappy insurance as a reward for providing what little of public benefit there is in this travesty of a bill and they want them.

The increased rates will again lead to the voters calling for the Congresses' heads, whereupon we will be back for single payer or nothing. Or something even worse, if that is imaginable.

What would have worked, and still would work is single payer.

Though it is really the only thing they can do that the public ultimately would be happy with, the Congress is already bought and paid for, so we should not think they will go back on their back room deals.

At least not so many that it will be worth a pile of salt.

I never visit Red State, if they are smart they know what this is about, it is about advancing the interest of the Corporate Powerful though they would never tell their flock that in a million years.

for saying what I never could have said...

I must tell you, as I feel you are a true friend in the blogosphere (along with "most" here at C&L) that I had to euthanize my good girlfriend "Doogie" this afternoon...

I am so overwhelmed with grief right now (she had mouth cancer after 10 years on Earth...or so...I found her on the 105 Freeway in L.A. back in the day...she was about to be run over by a semi truck and I coaxed her in to my car)....that I am thankful that a grand person such as you will keep fighting for what is right for the every day working man and woman in our country....while I cannot.

Thank you.

Tearfully,
Abbybwood

I am so sorry, we become so attached to them. I had a little Sheltie mix, she had runaway as a puppy. I couldn't locate her owner and I couldn't bring myself to take her to the pound so that was that. Then at age two she was run over by a car. She had one rear hip socket crushed, two broken legs and she needed pins in both. The Vet was excellent and miraculously she survived, I nursed her back to health. After some recuperation I would walk her but she would not use her worst rear leg, which had no bone in the socket. I fashioned a sling and kept walking her that way, more and more with the worst leg exposed. After several months she developed use in it. Finally she recovered almost fully. We walked daily several miles and she lived to be seventeen which is well beyond the breed. At the end she was blind, deaf and could barely move, but I would walk her as far as she could go ever day. I cared for her for several years like that. She could eat and she knew me so I was happy to do it. But the last day she couldn't get up and I put her down. I don't think she was in distress so much as I thought I was. We could have gone on longer but I threw in the towel. Afterwards, I was completely torn up, as I am again to relive that day. Life becomes like a Kurt Vonnegut novel. That was Pookie, and after her I will never have another animal. There is picture of her here above the computer and though it has been ten years she is gone, I still talk to her. Silly creature that I am.

For your heartfelt story regarding "Pookie".

You are the saint I have always known you to be since I read your first post.

Still tearfully,
Abbybwood

The most profound thing I've read today.

And I agree!

It's like an ongoing mulitple car pileup.

oh they're so clever....not.

I check out little green footballs sometimes and they had a post bashing the wingnuts who want to kill Snowe for this. What is with lfg? defending climate change and evolution and mocking Palin and teabaggers. Even defending your president at times. Almost like you could have a civil debate with conservatives. Has navel gazing and self-disgust with pass actions taken more conservatives to the center? How sad also if America moves to the center and Canada goes right with Harper (showing we are 10 years behind rather than ahead.)

When you say that our political influence is getting somewhere. That may be true in DC but out on the front lines it's not real obvious.

)O(

Good thing no one ever sent rock salt to george boosh.

He woulda snorted it through a hundred dollar bill.

OMG, LMAO stop it

I knew I should of opened that rock salt company.
All I can say is with the money they spend on salt, its going to be stimulating someones business. Buy baby Buy!!

olympia snowe is getting our rocks off?

Who is incharge of that group a couple of ten year old boys?

Yeah, let's do something funny and send rock salt to a senator. Okay, but don't tell mom and dad.

As if Senator Snowe will ever know about this childish ploy.

emotionally, definitely, chronologically, not so much.

This is the party of the Purple Heart BandAid, the picture of Obama as a witchdoctor, etc. They think they are funny, cute, clever, cutting edge. It's like watching the lamest kids in junior high try to be cool, it's just sad and pathetic and a childish gimmick, but they are always good at coming through with those, governing and the internet, not so much.

In Maine rock salt is a good gift! So as a "statement" it's just lame. Isn't this the party that came up with the Citizens Unite Not Together t-shirt to slam Hillary in the campaign? Idiots, and pigs.

Just kidding! How come when I type a comment at Red State dot Com, I click submit, and go straight to an error page? What makes that?

:D

Couldn't keep up with the censoring load so any comment submitted from an IP address located in a blue state is automatically rejected.

Is that true or sarcasm?

I can sell them something to send to Mike Crapo.

And to piss off the party of "NO" a little more, the DOW hit 10,000 today.

What will they do about that, start hoarding their pennies?

I bet we hear some knucklehead say . . .

"The recovery is because of what Bush/Cheney did . . . "

****

*runs screaming pulling my hair out*

Count on it.

laugh in their faces.

It's not even plausible.

which of these hucksters own snow salt companies.

He left a preening self-stroking post in two places about how he was going to attend that "function" where limbaugh wore black, an open-neck shirt, and bounced up and down saying "RUSH RUSH RUSH". Erikson gushed to his readers that he might actually get to TOUCH the rush-muffin, physically, and he'd let his followers know how the quest to touch rush at this event went. It was to die laughing at, I'm still not over it. Upsetting how my comments on it were instantly curtailed, though.

What was the name of that gathering where rush bounced up and down in that low-cut black outfit?

Was it CPAC ? Conservative Political Action Conference?

"At 5:00 p.m. today at CPAC, Rush Limbaugh will close out the show. The audience will be huge. The speech will be awesome. And we’ll be bringing it to you live on RedState.

Oh, and if God smiles on me today, I’ll get to meet Rush.

It may be a Saturday, but things haven’t slowed down."

This is the best CPAC I’ve ever been to."

It's like a young girl's diary entry right before the prom. The part about touching Rush must have been my own logical leap, expressed in my "reply" to the post—the first and only comment I ever successfully made at this blog, and it was swiftly anihilated.

Which goes to show, when you can't talk TO someone, you tend to go somewhere else and talk ABOUT them, and finish their story FOR them.

It's a machine sleep-apnea people use to get any sleep.

lol

Mine is bi!

That's handy!

ok, enough.

Wow

Watching that Macy's Parade Balloon's moobies bounce up and down would scare me into next year. EWWW! I don't think I could touch the guy if he needed CPR, not that you'd be able to get through that fat to get his tiny, little heart pumping.

Red State is obviously synonymous with Southern State. Snowe should send thank you letters explaining that salt is so very useful during the harsh Maine winters.

I think they need to start a new Newsline type show, but call it Deadline starring these guys:

IF

If Olympia Snowe receives a whole bunch of rock salt in the mail from people following the directive of an erik erikson at a Red State dot Com on the internet, won't she wake up, rethink her creepy position, and join US?

How is punishing her with acts of vandalism, Madame Dufarge knitting, cruel community college hazing, and other forms of neener-neener going to sway her back to their position?

I know that video about Obama leaving the Country is being largly dismissed as the work of a lone loon, but it doesn't take too many carzies to cause some real horror (Oklahoma City). I think it's quite possible that these fools are networking and planning some home grown terrorism which will mean more innocents and cops getting killed. The whole lot of them are vicious and seem to be egging each other on to more and more violent acts. This was my first visit to that site and will be my last, way too disturbing for me.

Hey, winter's coming, and last year rock salt was at a premium due to all the storms we had. Ms. Snowe could use the salt on her driveway, walkway, etc. So, thanks for the gift!

...would welcome all the rock salt they can get their hands on... Just in time for Winter. ;-)

Their Olympia Snowe is our Ben Nelson.

I hope that Snowe's staff is able to take this and dish it right back out. If she receives a ton of rock salt in the mail, her office should throw a "Home-made Ice Cream Party" and invite her fellow Members and constituents.

What a great opportunity for having fun w/ it and getting media coverage at the same time.

Healthcare debating has shifted,
Veils of agreement are lifted;
The sides are now rigid,
The atmosphere's frigid
Judged by the way Snowe has drifted.

2008 Election Map

Amended: New York's 23rd congressional district seat is currently vacant. It is not currently represented because its most recent representative, Republican John M. McHugh, resigned September 21, 2009 to become United States Secretary of the Army. A special election will be held on November 3rd, 2009 to determine who will succeed him.

We must never trust a Republican to make a decision on our behalf ever again.

Can someone with some tech savvy help me out here? Can any site get "Amazon powered" or is Red State owned by them? I am already sick over what I think is manipulation on Amazon's part to get and keep conservative "Books" on the top of the charts, but are they this overtly crazy? If so, I may rethink the large amount of purchasing I do on that site.
Also, when is someone going to call for a FOX boycott of advertisers? Not just Beck, but the whole freaking thing?

Websites can sign up for an Amazon storefront account, regardless of the website base. To Amazon, they're moneymakers and nothing more.

I work in the industry and I will tell you this - if you find Amazon on the sites you don't like (Redstate & more) make sure you clean your cookies before shopping there directly. Many times, these sites will get paid commissions based off your purchases if you've even clicked through links on the site.

Clearing cookies and shopping through positive sites will guarantee that you'll provide credit and sales to the websites you like to visit.
