eBay Rejects Auction To Benefit Man Who Murdered Abortion Provider

As David Neiwert posted yesterday, a group of violent anti-abortion zealots planned to hold an online auction on eBay to help pay legal expenses for Scott Roeder, the man who murdered abortion provider, Dr. George Tiller at his Kansas church. Thankfully, eBay has stepped up to do the right thing and is blocking the auction:

An eBay auction planned by abortion opponents to raise money for the man accused of killing Wichita abortion doctor George Tiller will not be permitted, company officials said Tuesday.

"Based on the details we know about the anticipated listings, we believe these would violate our policy regarding offensive material," the company said in a statement to The Kansas City Star. "eBay will not permit the items in question to be posted to the eBay site, and they will be removed if they are posted."

It its statement, eBay said, “we do not allow items that encourage, promote, facilitate or instruct others to engage in illegal activity and will not be a platform for those who promote violence toward others.” Read on...

Delisted.

Here come the bake sales.

And yet as soon as dirt was thrown in her face, Ebay had an auction of Anna Nicole Smith's crotchless panties.

She needed those like she needed another hole in her head.

relieved they at least thought better on this one. I don't think the proceeds from Anna Nicole's panties were used to get a murderer off the hook. :P

I was going to bid everything up and then not pay. Yes it screws my ebay account but if that's the kind of crap they would deal in screw 'em.

And then you could have listed your reasons in the feedback. Just so people would know not to go near that seller.

Don't worry Scott...you won't need an abortion when the fellas are finished.

This is like surreal. What do we need to do to tamper this insanity? There has got to be a solution because this is wicked and uneducated and ignorant. It's just base. This country has become what 'To Kill a Mockingbird' railed against.

the accused had such a weak plan about what to do after the crime that his pals are now having to build a defense fund.

Apparently all of their hope of a self perpetuated defense is crumbling with the fact that the accused is now radio active and the fund folks are few. Just in time for the holidays.

Some people can dish out self righteousness but of them, few can take it.

"He who defends himself in court has a fool for a client."

Sorry, all these freaks know are violence and god not technology.

cause I really wanted to buy his jesus-shaped cock-ring and his child-pornography collection.

I guess I'll have to wait until the next Christian conservative national flea-market.

I wanted to buy his collection of fetuses he'd throw at people to use in my Halloween decorations.

Oh well, can't win 'em all.

They were giving away a jesus-shaped cockring?! And Ebay pulled it?! Damn!

Yup

It's shaped like a crown of thorns...for her pleasure.

...would sell to these freaks.

In that, like Palin, it is unable to shut it's mouth.

That would be like getting a hummer from:

I especially like the Baby Jesus Butt Plug.

While in college, I worked at the Hotel Intercontinental downtown, Chicago...midnight shift. Whenever these angelical christian women's organizations came to stay at the hotel(usually a few times yearly) the request for porn was so great from these older ladies the system would occasionally shut down.

Repressed, but not missing out on anything.

Edison would be proud...the heretic. because only God should provide light.

"“They’re not only chilling the First Amendment of the Constitution, they’re raping the whole Constitution,” said Regina Dinwiddie, a Kansas City abortion opponent and friend of Roeder."

That quote in reference to Ebay sums up their stupidity quite well...

that the Obama Administration was selling the constitution on Ebay.

needs another battery.

So does that mean we can buy and sell marijuana online?

These nitwits think the actions of a private company in some way violate their right to free speech. It's eBay's party. They can invite who they want and throw out who they don't. Don't like it? Take your business elsewhere.

Got to love the free-market at work.

How many people there are who continually reference the Bill of Rights without ever actually READING IT.

The rednecks are acting so Taliban over 'Medicare for all' it makes me mad.

their stock is tanking and it got in the news otherwise they would have done zilch.

him have enough money for for a new hair piece. He looks terrible.

I was hoping eBay would step up and do the right thing. The site's not nearly as cool as it was when I started selling there 9 years ago, but they're still on the up and up when it comes to shit like this.

Also: If that asshole really had the courage of his so-called convictions, he wouldn't even WANT a defense. He'd stand up in court, plead guilty and take his punishment. I mean, isn't what he did supposed to be inspired by God as a sacred act? Then why's he trying to weasel out of the consequences by getting some lawyer to defend him? Why isn't he being a proud martyr, and all that?

Typical fucking COWARD.

They were slower than I guessed at dredging up the "poor persecuted Christian" defense.

I would like to thank e-bay for their strong statement regarding this matter - it rocks! VERY well done.

We use e-bay with regularity and I'm proud of them for doing the right thing and for taking a stand against Domestic Terrorism.

So, while it's hard to imagine a more open-and-shut case than this, and I'm pleased by the thought of this guy rotting in jail for the rest of his life, I'm bothered by the fact that this guy has all the rights of every other accused, including the right to raise money for his defense. Does eBay refuse the right of anyone to raise money for their legal defenses, or just specific organizations? And in any case, does eBay plan to determine for each auction what the money will be used for?

What's the deal here?

)O(

The answer presumably is Ebay doesn't want to be part of a controversy, so if anyone could surreptitously arrange such an auction, and avoid controversy, Ebay would likely never know about it.

doesn't have to guarantee his defenders the opportunity to use eBay's services for that purpose, especially when the items that were going to be auctioned off were delibrately of an inflammatory nature that delibrately exploited Dr. Tiller's murder, like the prison cookbook that Dr. Tiller's first shooter compiled from behind bars. For all we know, that might clash with eBay's TOS. Not to mention it looks very bad.

I mean, good grief, his supporters could have auctioned off other things in order to raise that money, and there's a chance they would have been allowed to do so by eBay if it weren't for the nature of the items.

Just my thoughts...

If it's that the items themselves were deemed inappropriate, that makes total sense to me. Again, not defending the guy, I just hope eBay's not getting into the business of either determining if all the money changing hands is going towards a good purpose, or if a guy is mostly likely guilty or innocent before deciding if people could raise money for him.

Assuming you are not concern-trolling here, given that the items were inflammatory in nature, I see no issue here.

Also, I am not aware that one has a right to raise money for their defense. These cretins clearly wanted to use the auction as a platform for spreading their propaganda.

No

But he DOESN'T have the right to demand that a private company provide him with the venue for raising that money. eBay is not a government entity, therefore they are under no obligation to him for ANYTHING.

If he needs money, he's perfectly within his rights to look for it. But he doesn't get to demand it of anybody. That's the way it works, dude. It's called the free market.

As a women who in her youngest years in Europe, have seen too many girl left to raise children without support from America. I am so against any man deciding about a woman body because I think they are out of their leagues. Unless man give birth! Get out of telling me what I can or can not do.
In this case I think that he should have been aborted, as well as Charles Manson and a few other crazies. It is not about quantity of kids brought in this world but the quality of the life they will have.

A killer is in the loose again in Florida, as this Nations forget that real pedophiles will never stop and if you released one, he will kill because he does not want to get cough and go back to jail.
