snowing in Las Vegas. People can drive at all. The snow is so
wet and heavy it's breaking our trees.
Oh yeah, first.
Snow in Vegas. Is it a sign of the apocalypse to come? Or the one that is leaving next month?
both, because as you may or may not know, this is the place where
the devil headquartered himself in The Stand. It's the most evil

"McMurdie said UK police have also been talking to the FBI and US Computer Emergency Readiness Team units about their use of remote searches of hard drives over the net."
this sounds like the FBI is doings something unconstitutional and illegal, going against the 4th amendment. It takes loose lips from overseas to uncover illegal US government activities.
Also could tie in with that Virginia Tech student said about the police or FBI stating "we know what sites you frequent" the one harressed for his english lit writings before Cho got his isolation treatment and went off the rails.

I was rather hoping a Pastafarian would be giving the invocation!
And has rained so hard in San Diego today my power has gone out several times this evening. Snow in the mountains to the east.

that does sound good.
That is one great video! The performance is superb and the audio and video quality are also very good for something that was recorded in 1970.
Damn, that was a good era for live music.
Almost 40 years later and I still love Woodstock. Carlos Santana playing Soul Sacrifice and Ten Year After doing I'm going home are in my greatest ever hits collection.

Saw that one last night! Great! My best so far is 9.
and sole go out for Bush.
Sock and awe. Har har. I could watch that guy throw those shoes at Bush over and over and over. It's as good as this one that makes me laugh out loud every time I watch it (and I've watched it at least 10 times).
I know, I need to get a life. If you need a chuckle...

LOL, I almost didn't play it.
Yeah, too bad that guy is being tortured in some dungeon somewhere.
I'm sure most of you remember the incident where the U.S. recently used White Phosphorus to ruin the city of Falluja. Here is a reminder.
US used white phosphorus in Iraq according to the BBC.
US troops used white phosphorus as a weapon in last year's offensive in the Iraqi city of Falluja, the US has said.
Well the guys over at Michael Moore have the good sense to put it in context with the shoe throwing incident. Mike's guys always surprise me with their unique perspective on things...
Not Quite White Phosphorus: Fallujahns hurl shoes at U.S. marines
http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/latestnews/...
Maybe now if Marines give out some soccer balls, then that will be the worst thing they've ever done in Fallujah. It will all be remembered as a war about soccer balls and shoes. Ok, forgive me for not "getting" it. All that this "shoes" is that Iraqis can have a mob mentality and that they watch too much TV.
I can't imagine why they would have a mob mentality. I mean, heck, we only invaded their country, bombed the shit out of it, killed somewhere between 100,000 and 1,000,000+ people, displaced millions more, gave them a few hours a day of electricity, having to find oil and gas at the risk of their being killed...no, I cannot imagine what this is all about. I, too, don't "get" why they wouldn't love us. Look at all we freed them from: food, water, basic utilities, random searches, street violence.
Yeah buddy, those damned Iraqi's should be a hell of a lot more grateful than they are.
Greek youths take over TV, radio stations! Little coverage in U.S. media.

I saw part of it...I was on the phone, but she covered it.
Good to know. Thanks. She and Keith are really the only news people worth watching. I'm glad MSNBC decided to hire her. I wasn't sure at first, but she has done good.
But you were mostly correct...that is the only time I have heard it mentioned on teh teevee machine.
Take over a national tv station and broadcast marching orders for the unhappy masses to march on DC.
I don't see anything wrong with that, as long as NOT ONE PERSON is hurt.

Bush, in his own little way, did help to elect a black man President.
Which also makes Hilary right when she said it took a President to change things.
Last weekend 250 laid off union workers occupied Republic Door and Glass in Chicago demanding their severance pay. President-elect Obama expressed sympathy with their plight. Illinois Governor Blagojevich vowed that the state of Illinois would do no business with Bank of America until that company released some of the $25 billion it had received in tax payer bailouts to pay the workers what they were due. American workers celebrated---
And the next day, the Bush administration and the mainstream media effectively changed the subject by indicting Blagojevich, labeling him “insane” and tainting Obama in the process.
Counterrevolution Blues: The Corporate Lackeys Strike Back
Will it be blocked? How do I know if I want to ignore user if I don't know what they sre saying?
Can anyone be so repugnant as to have a list of them?
I am so tired of certain people doing nothing but whining and complaining, they are going into my ignore list.
Dennis?
If he ever comes back, that is.
I don't think it was Dennis. He's been gone for awhile.
Click Ignore user.
The page reloads and you see:
the title of their post and something like "Fred Flintstone is on your ignore list."
The "ignore list" is linked. If you click it, it takes you to your ignore list where you can see everyone you ignored and if you want to remove select people from your list, click (remove) next to their name.
Is that like putting your fingers in your ears and saying na na na na na I can’t hear you?
What? - huh?
read what they are saying and juust not respond to them. I can ignore their ignorance without having a button.
I will be too tempted to tell someone they are a fucking asshole, get my blood pressure all worked up, and be totally bummed out by their contagious negativism.
Sorry, I think I prefer to keep my happiness and not be dragged down by Debbie and David Downer.
I know who you are talking about but I did tell you to ignore him.
It's him and his pity party posse.
I like to read what everyone has to say. It doesn't drive my blood pressure up. If I don't know what they are thinking, I'm placing myself is as much of a bubble as Bush did these last 8 years. I'd rather know-- all the gory details.
If it were ideas, I would never ignore anyone. While I may not agree with someone, I do value other thoughts and opinions. What I have no tolerance for is incessant whining with not a single idea being presented.
This person sucks, this idea sucks, and then 10 or more responses piling on about how much it sucks. Not even an iota of idea. It is bitch, bitch, bitch.
That is what I am tired of.
Ooops.
I heard they were shutting down all operations in the US for 30 days. This was per Stabanow the senator from MI tonight.
But there are no assurances they will resume production. No places for parts to go for 30+ days, and they stopped financing dealer inventories.
So unless sales improve significantly and dealers receive alternate financing to hold onto their inventory, there isn't any reason to resume production.
Not looking to good, is it?
Fucking Republicans. Okie dokie to give their pals 700 billion for parties but fuck American workers. And yes, I know that dems helped out there, but if the auto manufacturing sector goes, so goes a huge chunk of total manufacturing in this country.
Oh well. AL will get a new VW plant.
I didn't realize this was an extension to their annual 2 week shutdown. That makes it a little better. Bush said he was going to intervene. If he doesn't tomorrow, I bet you the markets tank.
I know PNAC had plans to fight resource wars in the Middle East and change our military around with a new pearl harbor, but I wonder if they had some plan to destroy our economy as well, because that is what looks like they've done. Could it have been a mistake. Just like the oops WMD's weren't there. Or oops the war cost more than the 6 million or so Wolfowitz thought. It'll basically pay for itself etc. These aren't mistakes they are lies and these people have very bad intentions and are getting away with it because we are collectively too stupid or too polite to confront them effectively.
asked myself that exact same thing on more than one occasion.
I just think they are too stupid to see past their own bad ideas. They thought Iraq would be the low hanging fruit which then would be a cakewalk into Iran. Didn't work out that way.
Dumbest smart people in the world. And we're lucky enough for them to be ours. (groan)
It is amazing isn't it when a bunch of intelligent people get together to do something spectacularly dumb. If you haven't read a detailed study of the thinking behind the Bay of Pigs fiasco you might want to look it up. Intelligence guided only by ideology hubris and wishful thinking can produce a four lane highway to hell faster than good intentions ever could.
I can only imagine the horrors of what would have happened in Cuba had a Bush been president.
Too many people think that military might is the only way to handle anything - especially these PNAC fuckers.
I think people are giving them much more credit then their actual IQs warrant.
NY weighs sin taxes. Coleman might be using election money for his legal defense. Now you know you're in Bizarro World. A supermarket is actually forced to defend its decision not to make a Hitler cake for that little kid. Wal-Mart only chooses to review its cake-making after it okays the idea. The Treasury is willing to investigate a business if it's connected to Iran, but not if it's connected to a Ponzi scheme. Bush continues to play the denial game, in spite of Americans being attacked in Mumbai. Will Blackwater lose its license?
Didn't they go offshore also?
I believe, its only that now that the US is considering reacting.
You know something is sovereign or not, if their decisions are ignored or followed.
Let's hope this is a trend (via They Gave Us A Republic):
I hope other execs take this as some kind of notice. This remains to be seen, but one can hope.
the term for this sort of thing is called leadership.
Leadership. Hmmm. I seem to recall something about that, but it escapes recent memory.
Must hit teh googles. Leadership. How quaint.
"The truth is, there is no Islamic army or terrorist group called Al Qaida. And any informed intelligence officer knows this. But there is a propaganda campaign to make the public believe in the presence of an identified entity... the country behind this propaganda is the U.S." -- Robin Cook - Former British Foreign Secretary
I have a friend who is from Iraq and lived there until we went and fucked up his country and he says there is AQ in Iraq, but there never was until we went in.
Of course I don't know. I've never been there. But the temptation to call any foreign fighter Al Qaida seems to convenient. I'm not sure how the American military distinguishes between the taliban, al qaida, freedom fighters, etc when they hardly know the difference between sunni and shiite or whatever. It seems too plausible to be a big joke to them.
I know the history of al qaida seems to have started near the beginning of the Russian/Afghan war when we helped fund the Afghan freedom fighters. That's where our CIA met up with Bin Laden etc.
Lastly I imagine a lot of Iraqis and muslims in general are just fighting off the Americans who they view as occupiers in their holy land. If we call them al qaida or insurgents or whatever the hell we call them it doesn't matter. Their just titles that can too easily be used as propaganda just as Robin Cook said. It's definitely a possibility.
John McCain whose strength was supposed to be foreign affairs screwed up whether Iran was supporting so and so. These people don't have a clue as to the culture over there. Bush didn't even know there were two different groups. All they see is oil and strategic geo political placement of military bases etc. They'll call people anything and say anything to get the American people to go along with it.
But this guy is a lifelong Iraqi. He is a doctor who left Iraq, went to I don't know how many countries, went back, left, went back and finally got work in Singapore. No other country would take him and let him work.
He is actually less afraid of the Americans as he is of AQ and the Shia (he is Sunni), but he knows the difference between all the players. We've talked extensively about the whole situation.
has a clue, or cares, about the different players in the region. They see ragheads, period. To them there is no difference at all.
Perhaps they see Jew v. non-Jew. I don't know (since so many PNACers are Jewish), but I do know that they don't care. There's oil under all that brown skinned people's land...THAT they know.
to the extent that a hierarchical and integrated organization may not exist. Extremists tend be much given to ideological purity and usually fragment into smaller groups led by messianic individuals which does not mean they don't cooperate, share intelligence and mutually assist each other in operations. To this extent Al Qaida most definitely exists.

just another one of those oh so common rare deaths of important people who are critical of Bushco.
RIP.
who was a loose cannon, who met the same fate.
Also a high female police officer died on her way to a inquiry.
David Penhaligon MP, car crash.
Several defence scientists murdered, cases unsolved in the 90s.
Assorted mysterious deaths at a British army depot, 'suicides' by double shots to head from rifles etc.
Top UN WMD expert slashed his wrists in woods, no blood.
The most senior British army corruption investigation officer 'suicide' in Iraq
Its like a modern 'Murder PLC' is on the rampage in Britain these days.
Yeah I remember the guy they tried to pin the Anthrax crap on died while in custody. The D.C. madame died just before her court case. The guy who survived the Building 7, Barry Jennings, bombing recently died after going public.
They sent that Anthrax around just prior to the passage of the Patriot Act. Guess they had to get the votes lined up or something. It is known now, but mostly ignored, that the Anthrax came from a U.S. military lab. People suck. I wish half the people here had half the courage of the shoe throwing Iraqi journalist. We'd better start standing up again soon or these criminals will continue their looting of the country.
Prescott Bush already tried to take over the country with a coup back when FDR was President. I hope that attitude doesn't run in families. Peace bro.
The MSM tried to make out it was at home.
People only hear what they want to hear. They can't handle the rest I guess? Way too many people aren't strong enough to handle the truth. Reality has to be seen if we are to succeed.
"People only see what they are prepared to see" - Ralph Waldo Emerson
"The individual is handicapped by coming face to face with a conspiracy so monstrous he cannot believe it exists." -- J. Edgar Hoover
That's how they succeed. Bottom Line.
Will it make them angry enough we wonder.
I note the MSM is saying billions rather than the full horrifying/hilarious amount.
But I've about had enough. It used to just recently be called a conspiracy theory to talk about PNAC or the Council on Foreign Relations. People are SLOW to wake up and digest new information or incorporate information into their reality. Way too slow.
Plus this stuff doesn't help either.
"The Central Intelligence Agency owns everyone of any significance in the major media." - former CIA Director William Colby
Hopefully blogs like this can make up for the difference? We'll see.
W. Colby died under strange circumstances at his late age too.
Otherwise they've got us by the balls.
Are all of the blogs you post saved as the link or the whole article? If it is the link and it could be evidence, it will disappear. If the whole article is saved, it could be used as evidence for prosecutors.
So dont worry, if they want to they have us all by the proverbials.
Luckily everybody is angry and screaming, dosnt matter what blogg or forum you visit even car forums, plus theres still a few laws left on the books to protect free speech.
So9rry I didn't clarify. I meant evedence against the administration. The guilty ones.
Its all there for the NSA/DoJ/FBI to look at in the future, plus enough people are remembering or archiving important stories.
But a lot of the more MSM news outlets are pruning their archives to erase old bad news, part of the GWB legacy drive.
But an honest prosecutor isn't going to know if you or I archived something.
With access to resources.
The Anthrax fall guy died while in custody?? I didn't know that.
Don't forget the tragic "accident" that Paul Wellstone had.
why no one is brave enough to do anything about it.
People risk their ass every day for the things they believe in. We've gotten too comfortable here.
Take Mr. Muntazar al-Zaidi for example. You think taking your shoes off in that room was easy to do.
More people need to find it in them. More media outlets need to find it in them to push the envelope. Keith recently talked about Bush's lie about seeing the North Tower fall. Jonathan Turley said their was a "strange alliance" between Bush and the 9/11 mastermind on the Rachel Maddow show. We can do more. We can speak out more. We know what happens in history when people don't. There's no excuse.
What is and what should be is not always the same thing. Idealism is all very fine if you have only your self to lose but how many out there have family and friends they think are worth risking? It’s easy to say something until you actually face the danger. Do you think Daschle and Leahy knew they would get anthrax in the mail by contesting the Patriot Act?
Sorry for the pessimism but really I’m just a realist!
Since when? I didn't realize you were all about letting the tyrants continue on with their shoe on our faces. Last I checked in on this blog you were one of the main proponents of shaking things up.
Let's all sit at home and do nothing. Not even throw shoes.
Nevermind the goosestepping outside your door.
1. I have nothing to lose, but I understand why some are reluctant to stand up for what is right. That's all I'm saying!
2. Everyone must live with the decisions they make in life. So try and make yours wisely.
into something I didn't say!
Since BushCO. has been in power my belief in conspiracy theories has increased 50-fold. There was a time I nearly dismiised them. Now I belive the most way-out-there ones, and think they've left out some of the details even.
eom
For IE and Firefox.
My letter to the Minneapolis Star Tribune managed to get printed today, leading to the usual frothing outrage by the wingnuts (and actually a couple of decent responses).
I've kept up as well I can, but does anyone have any recent news of Mr. Al Zaidi's safety or health?
Solid information is very hard to come by.
That's how the job is going to get done. I haven't heard the latest. Hopefully C&L or the C&L community will keep us updated. I'll post things from time to time as I see them. Peace.
"That means my brother was severely beaten and they fear that his appearance could trigger anger at the court," he said.
They won't acknowledge failure if it bit them in the ass. Wait, wait, oh, it already has and they still won't acknowledge it.
Good job!!
But they are too embarrassed by their total FU in security that the event showed, so they are abusing him badly for a minor stunt/prank/protest.

50 WAYs to *beat* an Iraqi
'50 Ways To Beat An Iraqi' - Stan and the Sequencers
parody of 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover by Paul Simon
The problem is all inside Iraq Bush said to me
The answer is easy if you take it logically
I'd like to help you in your struggle to be free
There must be fifty ways to beat an Iraqi
Bush said it's really not my habit to intrude
He was lying of course whilst Rush was downing 'ludes
But Bush repeated himself whilst being crude
There must be fifty ways to beat an Iraqi
Fifty ways to beat an Iraqi
Shove a broom up the back, Jack
Make a new pyrimid, clan
Don't need to be a boy, oye
Just incriminate thee
Hop on the triangle, Dud
You don't need to urinate much
Just drop off that load, GEEEIIIIII
And pretend that your free
She said it glees me so to see you in such pain
I wish there was something I could do to make you puke again
I said I appreciate that and would you please explain
About the fifty ways
She said why don't we both just piss on it tonight
And I believe in the moaning you'll begin to see the right
And then she kicked me and I realized she was probably a Shite
There must be fifty ways to beat an Iraqi
Fifty ways to beat an Iraqi
Just strip off the clothes, Joe
Make a new prison, plan
You don't need to record it, Roy
Just get yourself greed
Hop on the guts, Just
Don't discuss much
Just drop off the body, greed
And call yourself free

Americans mail in a hole worn smelly sock to the White House.
After all, mailing socks will be softer on postage and stronger in aura sentiment when recieved.
Hell, Mail a smelly sock to every republican and Democrat that rubber stamped the town of Crawford Texas' missing idiot.
Governor Patterson's Budget for Next Year. Has anyone seen this?
* An "iTunes tax" of 4 percent on videos, music or pictures downloaded from the Internet.
* A 4 percent tax on taxi, limo and bus rides. That means a $10 cab ride would cost 40 cents more.
* A 4 percent entertainment tax on tickets to movies, concerts and sporting events. That would add nearly 50 cents to a $12 movie ticket or $1.80 to the cheapest $44.50 seat at a Knicks game.
* The tax on beer increases 24 cents per gallon, or more than double the current rate, which means about 30 cents a case.
* An 18 percent tax on nondiet soft drinks, which aims to reduce child obesity. A $1.50 can of Pepsi would then cost at least 25 cents more.
* A 4 percent tax on cable TV and satellite services, raising a $100 bill by $4.
* Hiking the cost of "personal" services - including haircuts, manicures, pedicures, massages and gym memberships - by 4 percent.
* A 4 percent sales tax on clothing and shoes under $500, except for two weeks out of the year.
* Elimination of the law that caps the state sales tax on gasoline at 8 cents per gallon.
* Boosting the average vehicle registration fee for drivers by $11, from $44 to $55. Fees for new or renewed licenses also would increase 25 percent, or increase from $50 to about $62 to renew a license over eight years.
New License plates would also be part, of which NYS got new ones within the last 10 years.
All this on top of spending increases. What's next?
I definitely don't think he has the people's interest, if he did, he wouldn't be making it harder for the middle class to get around. Fuck Bush and his ego for causing Spitzer's ousting.
As if a $1.50 can of Pepsi isn't crime enough.
Are there plans to tax yachts and fur coats? Diamonds, luxury autos, country club memberships? Probably not, eh? Just the things average schmucks buy.
If you live in New York, you better get used to it.
Things are so screwed up now(every state) that taxes will have to go up. Across the board.
Yes, they will have to cut/curtail spending. But that alone will not do it. Taxes will go up.
Head Start needs to be brought back. And if a tax on soda helps some obese kids. That's fine by me.
Get ready, cause here it comes.
it's not the soda tax I have a problem with; its the fucking gas tax cap removal. You know what would help obese kids? Taking money from people who actually fucking have some!
I never drink soda anyway: I don't like it. I realize taxes will go up, but I don't always agree with how. These kinds of taxes are a double tax because you pay with tax-payed dollars, driving the cost way way up. And they are repeat user taxes. In the end, a small tax ends up being a huge cash cow.
I prefer a hefty tax-from-source, and then leave the rest alone. I'd rather pay more income tax.
There needs to be a farewell to Bush party organized on the national mall and everyone should bring and extra pair of shoes to throw in the air. Imagine having that televised across the globe.
The most hated American president ever both at home and abroad. The whole world's going to party on Jan 20th.
Somebody stole the guy's candy and flowers. Shoes were all he had.

After reading more about his pics for cabinet...I'm not so sure.
And we were all wondering what boosh would do after the presiduncy since no one wants to pay to listen to him mangle the English language or write a bio.
He can become a shoe magnate.
A shoe magnet?

Sounds like a Hugh Hefner party.
With a Sharpie (indelible pen) I have written BUSH on the soles of my shoes (in the part by the heel where it won't rub off). I'll have it on my sandals and my loafers. That way I can slander the bastard every time I cross my legs.
im not sure where the line ends between bush and obama , bush will leave office as a war criminal , obama will take over the job of becomeing a war criminal in afganistan, as obama says the war in afganistan is the good war , its the right war , so i guess these civillians who get killed there on his watch will not die in vain , nor will any of our troops , sure obama isnt in office yet but this is his stated policy ,more deaths and the change were going to get is only the locations of the deaths on the gravestones in arlington cemetary,
... you are right. It looks more like a continuum than a differentiation.
I'm still going to wait and see. Bush just threw money at things and sent more troops. Perhaps Obama will have a smarter plan, one which involves diplomacy and "good intelligence" as well. I trust he will work to resolve issues, not just up the ante.
I think that's a bad move.
Not too peachy keen with that either...she might be fully qualified for that office...but it seems that everyone involved is just fawning over her, because she's a Kennedy.
Let her run for that office, not be appointed to it...
Am I alone here?
I mean seriously...has all pretense of being a democracy just vanished?
Or am I missing something?
Bush is a GREAT example of where we're headed if we don't reject religious fanaticism once and for all!
That's his legacy - forever illustrating the dangers of Neo-Con philosophy - whether it be religion-based or Greed-based.

Q: Where's the soleful Imelda Marcos when you need her?
According to the radio show I was listening to yesterday, the Bush dynasty is alive and well and is making BIG PLANS!
It's Newest New World Order with special sauce! No thinly good-fer-nuthin' Kennedy chowder, no sire. But where will the Clintons sit?
OMG did anyone see Tucker Carlson on Morning Joe this morning. I was yelling at the TV! Scar and Tuck doing their part for Bush's farewell revisionist history tour. PURE PROPOGANDA that has no place on television! It makes me sick. For gods sake they needed Keith O or Sam Seder or Rachel on there to add some reality.
I would destroy my teevee after only five minutes.
Am I the only one that has a problem with this?

coupled with the fact that he has chose an Montsanto guy for the agriculture secretary seat leads me to think that:
a) Obama really is that tone deaf
b) He has been co-opted by the DLC to comply with the status quo
or
c) The change meme was referring just to his underpants
I am done giving this feller the benefit of the doubt... and I don't much appreciated being thrown under the bus:

WTF? OBAMA?!

I am fuckin PISSED!
Where's the FUCKING CHANGE OBAMA?
Do we have ANY recourse here? Can we as citizens fight this?
is by making 3rd parties viable.
The whole "lesser of two evils" is starting to get old.
At least Obama can give nice speeches. Gotta look for the silver lining somewhere...
Now, I am starting to understand that the whole meme of "team of enemies" is correct, but Obama left out the rest of the moniker: "team of enemies of liberal causes." That's more like it.
The sad part is that for all the appeasement and suck up to the right, Obama is still not allowed in the White House's guest house. LOL, what a tool....
For a donation...
Don't know if anyone will read this...but I'm not particularly happy with alot of Obama's cabinet picks, and I'm damn sure not happy about this homophobic pastor who is going to be at the inauguration.
Where's all the CHANGE we've been promised?
I feel like I've been had.
And I WILL NOT be contributing anymore to Obama until my, ( and quite a few other Americans as well) grievances have been addressed by Obama.
Thank you very much

I hereby declare solidarity with the Iraqi boy with the sandal. I nominate him to give the invocation at Obama's inauguration.
Hillary is a liberal who ran as a centrist to get elected. Obama is a centrist who only ran as a liberal.
Is that why Hillary when asked if she was a "liberal" she tried to run away as fast as she could from that label?
If you think Hillary, a former president of her alma mater's college republicans chapter, a former Goldwater girl, and a former member of Walmart's board, if you think she is a liberal... I have a nice bridge to sell you near some primo real estate...
I think that kid has the right idea...
