And let's not forget: New Poll Shows Palin Equated With ‘Apoca-Lipstick Now’
http://satiricalpolitical.com/?p=3421

Nice one, Don!

Nancy has let us down for too long.

It's time for Nancy Pelosi to step down from her "leadership" position--she's a lightning rod for the 'pubs, and she hasn't done anything of value for left-leaning voters. If she wants to try to keep her seat, well, so be it (though I'd prefer to see Sheehan beat her), but having her--or the rest of her motley crew behind her at the podium--in a position of leadership is a bastardization of the term.

I doubt that Sheehan will beat Pelosi but Pelosi definitely needs to go. Reid, too. Both of them suck. For the people my ass.

that seems to be the case with the millionaires in office.

Obama is slowly winning
in Bush country. Someone considers McCain's maverick moniker to be a joke. Lehman was stealing from the taxpayer and giving to execs.
N. Korea is shooting some more missiles, but it doesn't have oil, so who cares? Retirement accounts are bankrupt by two trillion, while Iceland is the first casualty of our "global market". If the fundies can believe in a deity giving us twelve plagues and a massive flood, why can't they believe in it, when it's a result of global warming? The surge isn't really working, and Gates has the gall to second-guess one of our allies on Afghanistan.
Asian stocks are sinking.

Asian stocks are sinking big time and now so are European stocks. More finanical calamity to follow in North America....

It's nice to know that the nation still runs to the Dems when the going gets tough. I was almost afraid people had forgotten the party of FDR.

(and neocons: stop bitching about the new deal, if it weren't for FDR most of you wouldn't even be here now!)

Will my 401k have to pay for it's own rape kit?

Good blog, I bookmarked you.

Bookmarked your ass, too.

wow i have to be honest i'll be somewhat excited to see this over with. mcLiar isn't real. maybe i can handle
another few weeks of 'my friends','i'm proud of my record' 'earmarks' and 'reach across the aisle'. wow the horror. this is one of my favorite movies....when martin sheen is in his room toasted while going through
some trippy martial art moves and strikes a mirror with ceiling fan going overhead. where fear and bravado meet.

According to Greg Palast and Bobby Kennedy Jr. - they aren't going to steal it - because they've already accomplished this.

They say it's not too late to steal your vote back. Go to . . .

http://www.stealbackyourvote.com/

Download the graphic comic book for as little as a penny - it will tell you what has happened, how it happened and what you can do.

The important thing is to spread this far and wide.
*

They can't steal a lanslide.

Get out and vote!

Twice is nice.

There's some good old Chicago politics for ya. Vote early and often...and if you're dead, vote some more! :-D

Exactly.

The polls are widening.

My ups and downs during tonight's debate:

Up: "Bomb bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran...." McCain looked like someone poured ice cold water on him.

Down: Tom Brokaw was a complete and utter asshole for repeatedly allowing McLiar to go overtime, but kept interrupting Obama.

Brokaw is a BASTARD.

I've insulted your mother Brokaw -- come and get me and we'll talk about it.
*

I used to somewhat respect Brokaw's supposed 'journalistic integrity' until this election cycle came along.
Now, most critical (but confused) thinkers like myself can see him for the poser he really is.

Brokaw was extremely biased.

Probably another one that wants to keep his tax cut.

we need only look at how much money these networks are going to receive on mcsames tax policies

ALL the networks are mctoadys

The whole "joking with an old veteran buddy" line didn't cut it with the voters either, Mr. Maverick. Most of us are kind of tired of your war stories, such as they are, anyway. And joking about pre-emptive bombing of your latest bogeyman is not very presidential, dontcha know. Even if your hero Reagan did it.

Oh, I forgot. Your hero is Teddy Roosevelt. Would that be the same Teddy Roosevelt who said this in a 1910 speech?

No man should receive a dollar unless that dollar has been fairly earned. Every dollar received should represent a dollar’s worth of service rendered—not gambling in stocks, but service rendered. The really big fortune, the swollen fortune, by the mere fact of its size, acquires qualities which differentiate it in kind as well as in degree from what is possessed by men of relatively small means. Therefore, I believe in a graduated income tax on big fortunes, and in another tax which is far more easily collected and far more effective—a graduated inheritance tax on big fortunes, properly safeguarded against evasion, and increasing rapidly in amount with the size of the estate.

By the way, I don't remember him calling himself Maverick last night. Did he morph himself into Mr. "Reformer" now? Did his handlers finally inform him how shopworn and ineffective the Maverick label has become? Like they apparently told him he had better cheer up a bit and look his opponent in the eye this time?

Okay - I'm stupid.

Will someone please explain the "verified" - "not verified" bit to me?
*

Look in the far upper right corner, bro.

What's the benefit of getting verified? Will I be able to spend more than $200 per auction? lol

Makes for easier commenting.

Plus, you're cool.

Wait, I can get 'em "flat"?

Cool

I know I'm cool.

Plus, thanks!

It's over. Nothing short of an unforeseeable event can get him back into this election. The polls are clobbering him. I hear Missouri is now going for Obama. Tonight sealed it. Nobody wants a disrespectful racist old man in the White House. America is not as blind as McCain would demand.

The bigots at my local watering hole are showing their true colors. Despondancy is creeping over them. With a month to go, they have all but given up. Cool.

Oh, we have a couple more eternities to go, here. There could be unforeseeable events a-plenty. Remember about an eternity ago when Sarah Palin's selection was announced, and how so many were scrambling, thinking Gone InSane had just stolen the show, and that victory was now next to impossible?

In any case, never let up. Never get lulled into complacency. It's always a fight.

What's the benefit of getting verified? Will I be able to spend more than $200 per auction? lol

There are a few perks.

Every time a new comment is made you are notified. All new comments are bordered in red.

You can also choose to have nested comments or "flat" comments (meaning all comments come in one after the other as they did originally.

Thanks, Xoites. Tell me more...

xoites, whisper sweet nothings in my ear.......

?

Weird.

You think THAT"S weird? I've got more.

How do we make the comments flat; coming in one after another?

I see new comments come in and I have no idea where, without scrolling through the whole thing.

???

I'm not a fan of flat.

If you look along the line "Post New Comment" to the right on the bar is a little box. Click on it. :)

You rock.

NO. YOU rock!

Troll

If I ever got flagged as inappropriate by my peers and gurus at c&l, I'd just feel so empty and awful, lol

Installed it. Thanks.

But i hope they have heard by now that South Africa is no longer under Aparthied.

McCain looked like an actor in an advertisement for Alzheimer's disease medication. It reminded me of a commercial that runs on MSNBC where a little girl has to rescue her grandpa as he wanders off towards a lake.

He was just being himself.

LOS ANGELES — In a suicide note, Karthik Rajaram wrote that he had considered killing only himself because of his financial troubles, but decided to take his family with him.

We didn't care if one of our detainees was losing it.

The jerks behind "Expelled" jerks defend copyright infringement.

Imagine. Ben Stein arguing that universities should throw away merit-based hiring and bring in a molecular biologists who espouse the "DNA was just born that way!" theory of life on Earth.

Next, historians who don't believe in dates containing the number 7.

Anyone... anyone... something-D-O-O education?

OMG

I cannot believe what is happening to my country.

What the fuck is happening to us? How can we allow this to happen?

that the GOP was losing its mind over nothing...and making up shit to boot. I just knew it.

How predictable the right wing is.

I've been in a bitchy mood lately, what with watching Gone InSane's idiotic campaign devolve into a contest to see how much mud he can sling in a month. Anyone want to indulge me in a rant?

Thank you for this, Karen.

Every word and expletive was well placed and deserved, absolutely.

Running off to my cache so that I may keep a copy to listen to again at least a few more times before the election..

I hear so many people talking about John McCain versus Barack Obama. It's John McCain (R) versus Barack Obama. We need to remember what Republican rule is like. Financial collapse, disatrous foreign wars, careless response to Katrina, and scandal after scandal. I've tried to condense eight miserable years into 7 minutes of video. All comments appreciated. God bless.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2p2hvQzIPY

cindy the Whorer. no wonder his is cranky.

There's one thing that really confuses me about the MSM. Why is nobody talking about how gorgeous Michelle Obama is? She is stunning, but instead we hear about how some meatheads find Palin attractive?

("attractive" means purdy, Sarah.)

Anyway, it chafes my hide.

By the way, I'm getting worried about Obama. That "terrorist" and "kill him" shit is freaking me out.

Hopefully, the Democrats have learned at least this much about their opposition (and moles within their ranks) since JFK.

Barack Obama's most likely secured to the teeth, hopefully.

Russia's in a coma. Napoleon, Two World Wars, one Cold War, and Afghanistan, Yeltsin and Putin couldn't take them down until Bush came along. C'mon, Congress, impeach his arse! There's no better time than now.

Missouri elected a dead person over Ashcroft.

McCain can't win no matter what. He might be simply given the presidency, or Bush might proclaim himself Dictator For Life, but McCain won't get enough actual votes to be president, no matter what.

It looked like Eternal Republican Rule in 1992. Then the economy tanked.

Looked like Republican rule in 1994. :)

[Michelle Obama] is stunning, but instead we hear about how some meatheads find Palin attractive?

Well, Michelle Obama is also, um, African American. I think she's stunning too. But if I had to bet, I'd put money on simple racism to account for the fact that her looks and elegance are not praised. Not that everyone in the media hates black people, but that they and their audiences are less likely to fantasize over, sexualize or or otherwise even compliment the looks of an African American woman.

But hey, that's not so bad, in and of itself. What I'd really like them to talk about his how intelligent, eloquent and elegant Michelle Obama is. How about we hear some more of that?

As for the cries of "terrorist" and "kill him," sadly, I think they're inevitable. And President Obama must be secured with a zeal a couple notches above the security of his predecessors.

Let us think of this economic crisis in a different way. Say that you had a $10 bill sitting on the top of your kitchen table and your so-called “friend” came to visit your house that day. After your “friend” leaves immediately you notice your $10 is gone. The $10 bill went somewhere and it just didn’t disappear on its on. Your “friend” took it!

Now think of this whole loss on the stock market, plus the no bids government contracts, the trillion-dollar deficit, etc. as your $10 bill that “disappeared.” Money just doesn’t disappear like that. Someone walked home with your money off the kitchen table. The question becomes who? Follow the money!

Notice how everyone just tries to say it was a paper loss? But behind some of the paper there is also real money. Real money that is missing from the United States treasury and from the stock markets! Who is getting rich while the United States goes down? That is the real question that needs to be asked. Where did the trillions of dollars go and who is holding the bag with all of the loot?

I think this is a much better way of looking at money these days.

McCain looked like a bumbling old man - if he hadn't said so many ridiculous things, I might actually have felt a little sorry for the "my friends/earmarks/I know what it means to be an American/complete cluelessness about the economy/won't shake Obama's hand" old guy.

Asia and Europe stocks are in free fall today. We need hard core, serious, detailed, concrete plans for how to start fixing all that Bush fucked up in the past 8 years. Who knows if that will even be possible...

gas

Rember all the hollering and MSM coverage of gas at $4 a gallon? At the time I figured the gas price would come down a lot before the election and it is close to $3.00 now. That can't be manipulation, can it?
Also, people still believe this 'he's Moslem stuff. A woman I work with...and is black...believes Obama is just parading as a Christian to get elected. Says she won't vote for anybody just because he's black. A good idea, no doubt. But it's too bad this question of religion is such a big deal. Somebody ought to be able to say 'none of your business' when asked what religion he is, or isn't.

This an excellent post , I'm grateful to you , thanks a lot .

Now I know I’m getting old but I could swear John posted a LNMT of the redhot chili peppers but I seam to have lost it. Damn I’m not that old!

Someone seriously has to have a count of every time John McCain said "my friends." It was in the dozens. Maybe even 50 times. I predict the Daily Show will show a montage.

I think he needed to rely on it since he was probably told that "maverick" had lost its appeal in focus groups.

I don't see the little box to make comments flat. Where is it exactly?

Helps if I allow the script in NoScript...

You have to post a new comment...not reply to one.

In the upper right corner of the Post a Comment box will be a little, tiny gear looking shape.

Click on it and a box will display.

You can then select Flat and save it.

I finally figured it out. NoScript was blocking the little symbol.

Now if we could just get post numbering back, we wouldn't have to toggle back and forth between nested and flat...

Looks like our last air raid in Afghanistan resulted in the murder of 30 civilians. A female suicide bomber lost it in Iraq. AIG partied while America burned.

Whole lot of filthy lies being talked about over at Faux News. Stop by and let 'em know what you think.

Need to counteract some poll freeping here:

http://pressherald.mainetoday.com/

silly wabbits are trying to make it look like McCain won the debate.

Poll is around center (left - right) and roughly 1/3 to 1/2 way down.

Thanks

46 Percent to "undecided" 28 percent to McCain 25 percent!!

Nothin' like being third in a two person race...

http://www.miamiherald.com/business/story/713...

28 days left and I can't wait to its over. These last days are going to be ugly with McLame getting more desperate as he sinks in the polls. The one thing I still worry about is the race issue. I guess I still don't have much faith in America having changed that much when it comes to race. I think everything hinges on the youth vote, if they show up, we win, if they don't, we lose.

it seems like the ECONOMY (or lack thereof) is finally becoming an unexpected equalizer here. Seems like more people are scared of losing their houses than they are of "the black man" these days than anything else.

Not scientific, of course, just a gut feeling. I hope I'm right...

... so I am only going to wonder this aloud once so he will get out of my head. Now that Obama seems to have trounced McCain in last night's debate, I worry that this thing will go off the rails nasty or that the Cheney/Bush cabal will pull another stunt. Or worst of all and god forbid -- lowers voice to a whisper --- we have another terrorist attack.

On the other hand, if a terrorist strike does happen, what will happen to the meme that "Bush has been keeping us safe" for all these years?

There. Now I can move on with enjoying Obama's most Presidential actions last night. It was so nice to be talked to like an adult instead of being lectured to by Grampy McSame. Thank you Obama for taking the country in another direction.

Like I joked last night, I think Cheney and the rest of PNAC thugs shut off the debate by halfway through and got back to work figuring out which country to attack (oops, I mean, have attack us or an ally) for maximum impact.

I would strongly expect an incident in te next couple of weeks, if nothing else to distract from the apparent failure of the $700B+ bailout failure.

I certainly do not put it past this administration to do whatever to retain power.

Nor do I put it past the frothing at the mouth crowd (a la KILL HIM) to do something awful.

I am pretty scared right now...but moreso for Obama than myself.

Pray that this is not the "October Surprise".

He claimed it was his idea, but it wasn't. Oh, and he was against it before he was for it.

Can you say "desperate"?

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/natio...

I guess McLame didn't read the bill he just voted for, because that option is already in the bill that congress just passed and the President signed.

Tom Brokaw and his Locust Valley Lockjaw need to be put out to pasture.

We have 28 days so don't fuck it up.

Palin wants to be the conductor on the Rapture Express: Palin's Churches and the Third Wave series - http://www.talk2action.org/story/2008/10/7/54...
They view themselves as conducting "the most radical restructuring of Christianity since the Reformation." They believe they are unifying an end time church that will harvest millions of souls before the return of Jesus.
The vast amount of data gathered by the movement is kept at the nerve center of the spiritual warfare movement, the World Prayer Center in Colorado Springs, jointly developed by C. Peter Wagner and Ted Haggard. (Yes...that Ted Haggard).
A number of movement leaders including Rick Joyner have written about the coming "civil war" within the church. They believe that the rest of Christendom must follow their lead in receiving the supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit and also the restructuring of the church. This Apostolic movement is not waiting around for the Rapture and they do not plan to watch the battle against evil from grandstand seats in heaven. They believe that Jesus can not and will not return from heaven until the newly unified church, under the authority of God's anointed, retakes control of the earth from Satan.
The American public deserves to know what impact this has had on her worldview and needs to understand the significance of a New Apostolic worldview. Furthermore, beyond the issue of Sarah Palin's political career, the New Apostolic Reformation is a new and powerful force in American religion and politics. Knowledge of this movement and its political impact should be a top priority for every researcher and journalist concerned about the growing assault on the separation of church and state.
Meanwhile the Prophets and Apostles are continuing to contact their networks worldwide with urgent Sarah Palin prophecy while most of America remains oblivious to their existence.
I'm sorry...anyone who buys into this stuff is cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs...this is where faith becomes detrimental to humanity and reality dies...

The only place unaffected by financial turmoil: Iraq - http://www.mcclatchydc.com/homepage/story/535...
Apparently immune to all the turbulence was Iraq. The government has little if any investments in the institutions affected by the crisis and a barely functioning stock market. Most Iraqis keep their money in their homes rather than trust banks. "We don't believe it will affect our bank balance," said Minister of Industry Fawzi Hariri. "In the short term we'll be one of the least affected nations." The Iraqi government has more than $25 billion in cash reserves. Even with oil prices dropping below $90 a barrel, the Iraqis forecast oil revenues to be in the neighborhood of $80 billion.

Iceland's reinvention from the poor cousin in Europe to one of the region's wealthiest countries dates to the deregulation of the banking industry and the creation of the domestic stock market in the mid-1990s.
Those 'free market' reforms turned Iceland from a conservative, inward-looking country to one of a new generation of internationally educated young businessmen and women who were determined to give Iceland a modern profile far beyond its fishing base. Eugene Robinson: The Flimflam Strategy -
Let's see: The financial system is still in grave peril, despite Congress's approval of an unprecedented $700 billion bailout. Unemployment is rising, the economy is slowing, and the question isn't whether we're in for a recession but how long and how deep the recession will be.
Meanwhile, U.S. troops are still fighting in two places -- Iraq and Afghanistan -- where, as a rule, foreign occupations end badly. The terrorists who struck us on Sept. 11, 2001, have been allowed to regroup within the borders of nuclear-armed Pakistan and are busy plotting new attacks. Rarely have there been bigger or more urgent issues to talk about in a presidential campaign.
But John McCain wants us to talk about Barack Obama's acquaintances. He and Sarah Palin are going to try their best to make us talk about anything but the big issues facing our country, because most Americans think Obama's solutions are better than McCain's.

and you'll get more display options. Becomes much easier to use.

Where is the "Post New Comment" link on the video below this one?

FBI saw threat of mortgage crisis
A top official warned of widening loan fraud in 2004, but the agency focused its resources elsewhere.
By Richard B. Schmitt, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer

WASHINGTON -- Long before the mortgage crisis began rocking Main Street and Wall Street, a top FBI official made a chilling, if little-noticed, prediction: The booming mortgage business, fueled by low interest rates and soaring home values, was starting to attract shady operators and billions in losses were possible.

Story one, by Logan, is at #2, and the comments are turned off.

"Post A New Comment" is not appearing if there are 0 comments posted. Through the "Contact Us" tab, the link to site monitors goes to "Page Not Found".

I apparently can post after an inital post is made by someone else.

My apologies for posting this here, but am not able to contact site monitor.

I think John is trying to confuse us. The entire redesign of this site was his mad scheme to drive us all insane...ummm...insanER.

to you, my brutha (er, sistah?)

I hate the subject line. I can handle flat, the nested is the worst...but flat gives you no context whatsoever.

I just skip past those comments I don't get. Doesn't make for a comprehensive experience.

And this is one of my favorite communities, too. (sigh)

I believe the correct phraseology is "More Insanerer"...

Hello everyone!

I have a real question that is not really meant as a shot at anyone and I was looking to get your opinions on it. I think I saw the idea somewhere in a post on this site but I could not find anything on it.

OK, is it just me or is McCain taking everything Obama says and repeating it as if they are his own thoughts? It seems like every time I read a quote of McCain's, see a clip of McCain, or watch a debate, it is like listening to Obama give his opinion, seeing McCain say "Obama is wrong!," and then McCain says what Obama said.

I may be imagining the situation but it really seems like it is happening a lot lately. I figured I would check here and get everyone's opinions since most of you seem to know what's going on.

Thank you for any replies!

I have seen both of them regurgitate Obama's ideas from the last two years as if they are new ideas that they have come up with.

I about spit my coffee across the room when I heard Palin say something the other day...she who cannot string a a multi-syllabic thought together.

McCain's plan is to steal the Democratic Platform and present it as his own.

I think that was how he passed his Annapolis finals.

It seems in reviewing the debate that McCain was afraid to bring out those attacks that he and Palin had been honing for a week. Since he is clearly afraid of being confrontational with Sen. Obama, it is obvious why he won't commit himself to meet with Ahmadinijad (sp?)... McCrankypants is scared!

What we witnessed last night was a shell of a man - an empty, vacuous memorized stump speech of a human being, a caricature of his former self, and a total "whimp" to boot!

He sends an ignorant women (Sarah Palin) out there to do his dirty work for days and doesn't have the balls to confront Obama with the same slurs and innuendo he's having Palin spout on the stump. How transparently gutless and un-mavericky of him.

Using a woman to do your bidding, John? How sad that your balls have shrunken back into your anatomy so far that you've become a total eunich??

Again, McCain's long history of mysogeny rears it's ugly head in the airspace directly over the McCain "ball-less express"~! Maybe he's consorting with Putin up there? hhehh?? hhehh?? hhehh??

Hilarity unbound. Thanks for the laugh C&L, officially forwarded everywhere they can deal with the C-word!

People who live in glass houses (or who sleep with the enemy) should never throw stones....when they do, their own glass house is toppled to the ground.

Palin's intimate anti-american connections need to be made public. The people deserve to know this truth about one who seeks to occupy the White House and one of the highest offices in this country.

Anti-American Palin, the Secret Secessionist!

"That One"/Biden '08!

If McPOW "knows" how to get Bin Laden, why doesn't he tell someone so we can stop losing lives over there?
BTW, why isn't he wearing a flag pin? Why does he hate America?

I'm nested! LOL!
