Since Congresswoman Michele Bachmann appeared on MSNBC"s Hardball earlier tonight, there"s been a deluge of support unlike anything we have seen. We are so grateful to the Daily Kos community and others who"ve sounded the alarm on Bachmann"s extremist, shameful rhetoric and pitched in with whatever they can to help end her tenure in Congress.
Our phones haven"t stopped ringing. Many have called in to say they"re sorry they can only send money and wish they could be here to help. N.Y. Congressman Convicted of DUI
After a nearly eight-hour trial in Alexandria traffic court, Rep. Vito Fossella of New York was found guilty last night of driving under the influence, but the judge did not decide whether the Republican congressman was so drunk he should go to jail.
Instead, Chief Alexandria District Court Judge Becky J. Moore decided to hold a separate hearing on whether Fossella's blood-alcohol content was above 0.15, which would require a mandatory five-day jail term, despite hours of testimony and argument on the issue. A separate hearing on a traffic charge is not unheard of but highly unusual, veteran lawyers said.

Everytime I go to Europe, I am jealous that they have better governments than we do (well, the places I have gone). It's depressing. And I get to have to go through the I DIDN'T VOTE FOR HIM! and explain how Bush managed to get into power and then stay there.
It's totally fucked up.
I spent a month in Ireland in 2003, and I had to do the same thing - I DIDN'T VOTE FOR HIM AND HATE HIS IGNORANT ASS. Thankfully, people were understanding.
Was hearing people say that when they heard an American was coming to train them, they expected a dullard cut from the same cloth as Bush. They seemed to think that every American is uneducated (in the ways of our politics) and, well, everything that Bush displays. (Which might account for that German guy in a prior thread who started his post with You Fucking American Morons.) And I won't even go into the whole Palin thing and how she is viewed.
I literally shocked the shit out of them. I made several friends and feel I represented my country well.
Gawd knows, we need as many friends as we can get.
Sad thing is, non-Americans can get caught up in stereotyping just as we can. I was working at Redwood National Park years ago when a couple from New Zealand came in. They were traveling from Seattle to LA (granted, in Blue America mostly, but N. Cal. is pretty conservative. Note: SF is not NORTHERN California.)
When I asked them how they'd enjoyed the trip so far, they sorta looked sheepishly at each other and said, "We're amazed at how friendly and helpful everyone's been. It's not at all the America we expected from the TV shows we get back home."

I always suggest wearing an anti Bushco TShirt as evidence to the Euros as to not being a loyal servant of the beast.
As an American living in Europe for the past 6 years, I've learned a lot about how we see foreigners and how Europeans view Americans...it's not pretty.
I'm always so embarrassed when Bush and American policies are brought up, and I try to explain how not everyone in the US is like Bush. They look at me skeptically.
But one thing that really surprised me is how much they love Clinton here. He has one of the best international reputations as an American president. I still get a lot of questions about Clinton and Lewinsky. When I tell them that there are Americans who know that Bush and his cronies are criminals who have done unbelievable things to fuck up the country and the world, they ask me why we could try to impeach Clinton and yet not hold Bush accountable. This is the point where I feel so utterly helpless...
I don't know exactly when he did this interview with Peter Jennings, but I came across this clip of Clinton on YouTube that somehow really got to me - he talks about all the lies of the Republicans against Democrats... it still applies today.

I've been in Asia for 11 years, and I can ditto the above from here. If I may, I also knows lots of Australians that feel the same, so that's 2 more continents against Bush. To sum up, Europe, Asia and Australia also hate Bush. And as a Canadian, we do too.

Believe me...when I went to bed on election nite Kerry was winning COMFORTABLY...when I woke up in the morning they had bush winning and believe me MOST of the nation was in a state of shock except for those poor black folks in Florida who got f*cked over trying to vote. The repubs turned in an ugly performance that time and are doing so again. The only way McCain't will be elected...voter fraud BY THE REPUBS AGAIN! Back then you couldn't even speak your mind about it...the repubs just kept saying to "get it over it...you lost." It was heartbreaking AND sickening. Now we know they cheated...won't happen again.

Oh, OK! My best friend and his wife had a Downs Syndrome child when he was 40 (the 4th of his 4 kids) and it made me take stock of how I used the word "retard." His son is a beautiful, loving child, so that's why I frequently ask posters to not use the term "retard." It humbled me greatly, and made me re-evaluate many things in life.

One major problem with working in electronics is no free time (or will after a long week) to do it as a hobby.
Its more fun as a hobby than a job, even tho you dont get paid for hobbies.
I am very lucky that I love what I do. I think of it as much as a hobby as a livelihood, myself. We are both very, very lucky!!

Seriously, don't ever give up on love. I may sound like a Pollyanna, but what's the option? When my Dad died, my Mom - who had been married to him for 44 years, feared being alone. She then met a man who loved to dance, and fell in love all over again - at age 65. They stayed together - and in love - for 15 years, when they passed away within 6 months of each other.
And just what I hope for.
I am a tad picky...I like SCARY smart men (looks I am very flexible on...I prefer big guys, but hey, it's a preference). The scary smart thing is a bitch to find. :D

What I read was that the SCOTUS threw out the GOP wanting the OH SOS to do some kind of database cross referencing which could not have taken place due the the shear numbers.
