RIP Robert Schimmel, who died yesterday from injuries sustained in a car accident.

don't lie. You recorded that live.
I actually have seen Schimmel a few times at comedy clubs here in SF. He wasn't always my cup of tea, he could get pretty damn crude and scatological for my tastes. But still, it's sad to know he's gone.
but sometimes it has to be to take our minds away from crude reality.
You mean like this, ron?
You can thank, well, someone for this, just not me.
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust.
I'm not a hater, I am running ad block which leaves a 2in. in blank area where the ads's used to be.. (Which C&L politely asks you not to do this) You missed te point, the layout is bad from any web design viewpoint. The 3 column format does not work The site,
My favorite website has gone Corporate, so be it. God forbid I have an opinion not in lockstep with everyone else. Your assumptions have been consistently incorrect.

Take it from someone with a few posts under his name on this site: That statement couldn't be further from the truth. Everyone who works here does so voluntarily, including the guy who's worked his ass off for the last year writing code to make the site run faster and better. C&L isn't funded by George Soros. The money comes out of Amato's pocket, advertising or, a couple times a year if the bandwidth is costing way too much (and with all of the video the site handles, there's a lot of bandwidth being used), a fund drive. But corporate? Really? Jesus Fuckin' Christ, go talk to Jane Hamsher about Common Sense Media.

More can be said with humor than in any other way of talking. Look at the comments that were made by Will Rogers about the politics of his day; check out Lenny Bruce and how he pushed the envelope of social commentary.

Lots of references to medical procedures most of us would rather not have to deal with, but he lived through. Kind of ironic that he died behind the wheel while his kid drove. I feel for his family.
RIP.

Thanks for your humour. You`ll be missed.
My modem was busted this weekend so I missed everyone, but I see it's the same old insanity in good ole Merika. Some of today's headlines made me laugh especially this one:
McCain Calls Ending the Bush Tax Cuts 'Class Warfare' (such a putz)
I can watch Blair cuz he makes me angrier than bu$h. Bush was stupid, but I don't think Blair is. He's just an asshole. I'm glad the Irish pelted him with shoes and eggs. He deserves to be publicly ridiculed.

When they start talking about the "end to the war" amongst other crap, on TV, I just turn it off. My feeling is save for people that believe you.
Seriously, if you haven't watched that Psywar movie Geronimo (I think) keeps posting, you ought to. Here's the link again:

a lawsuit with a man who had suffered a stroke and tried driving himself to the hospital. He was pulled over by the police who thought he was dwi/dui or whatever, and tased. He was awarded 500k. They got off easy.
Also the new Whitman ad,"Jerry Brown took an allowance from his parents long into his fifties....."

In his latest movie, George Clooney plays a spy of some sort who, by virtue of the profession and position he has staked out in the world, can have no friends, and must always look over his shoulder for approaching enemies. His character is an internationally connected, lethally cunning, nihilistic loner yearning for his soul back and dying in the process.
He's called, "The American."
How appropriate.
Everyone is equally entitled to the pursuit of happiness. Wasn't that once self evident?
and she's fairly predisposed to liking a Clooney vehicle..."Boring" was her assessment.
me-oww!
I am sure many people will consider it a deliberate exercise in boredom. It's very slow.
It's not a typical spy/action flick. It shows the excruciating solitude of undercover life. Much of the movie involves enduring that with "The American."
I think there's a very serious point to it. He is what America has become.
Everyone is equally entitled to the pursuit of happiness. Wasn't that once self evident?
He was a great mind, very funny guy and a great writer. He will be missed.
Thanks for posting this clip Nicole, I just started doing stand up and was on my way to a work shop yesterday when I heard the news. It's heart breaking. I hope the best for his daughter and my thoughts are with his family and friends.
As a foreigner I'm just curious, do you think Americans (Dem., Rep., Ind.), even if dissatisfied with the present administraion, are crazy enough to elect Republicans again in November? Do they remember the bush years?

You think it's funny...................? This is a 'joke' to you, right?
A joke? You don't know me, obviously.
I'm just not American. I forgot how mindless the masses are there.

Please...you gotta be kidding.
Am I the only one who does not like the new format?. 3/4 of the real estate of the page is advertising. It's like the filler in the newspaper you throw away. The post sits in a tiny corner surrounded by ginormous ads. Looks more like some Corporations Monthly Magazine than a progressive blog. Layout is awkward and not user friendly and the new logo belongs at RedState. Sorry new format=Fail

Haven't you heard of Firefox, AdBlock Plus and NoScript?

of fire fox. 3.6.6 Just saying....Blocking scripts or ads, won't fix a badly designed site. And I shouldn't need to.

...you aren't even running those free add-ons, because there's only one subtle sign of advertising that I'm seeing on the front page of the site- a two inch white gap between two posts about 1/2-2/3 of the way down the page.
Damn, the haters are really hatin' lately, I tell ya.

I'm happy with the new format at C&L. And (my newly installed) Firefox. I get what I'm looking for and it's EASY! Pretty avatars too. ;)

ps, I like your avatar, Edwin. Very cool.
i have never seen him before. That was really funny.
Rush Limbaugh is what a smart person thinks a stupid bigot sounds like.
To See You Again by Betty Schimmel, Robert's mother, is a moving memoir of love lost and life lived in Budapest during the Holocaust. There was a lot more to Schimmel's history than his jokes and monologues.
