Sunday Morning Bobblehead Thread
By Nicole Belle Sunday Dec 28, 2008 5:00amJibJab's "2008 Year in Review"
This is it, our final Sunday together for 2008. And judging from the guest list, it appears that most people are more interested in gearing up for New Year's festivities than do the Sunday shows, which may be a blessing in and of itself. The Chris Matthews Show and Late Edition will look at the last year, but Meet the Press, Face the Nation and This Week will be looking to the future with the incoming Obama presidency. But the most pathetic of all, Fox News Sunday (naturally) gives First Lady Laura Bush a big, wet, sloppy kiss goodbye.
ABC's "This Week" - Sens. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., and Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio; Robert Gibbs, incoming press secretary to Barack Obama.
CBS' "Face the Nation" - Illinois Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn; David Axelrod, senior adviser to Obama; Paul Krugman, Nobel Memorial Prize-winning economist.
NBC's "Meet the Press" - Axelrod.
CNN's "Late Edition" - A compilation of interviews from 2008 featuring New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., Gov. Sarah Palin, R-Alaska, and CNN founder Ted Turner.
"Fox News Sunday" - First Lady Laura Bush.
"The Chris Matthews Show" - Panel: Howard Fineman, Michele Norris, Norah O'Donnell and David Brooks. Topics: 2008 in review -- the good, the bad, and the ugly! Who were the heroes of 2008?
So, what's catching your eye this morning?

This would have been a perfect day for the Media to look back on all the Bush administration disasters of the last 8 years. But no.
We're doomed to have it repeated in the future, for sure.
meanwhile, they are going to set up the standard media war on Barack the DemocRAT and/or Barack the Magic Negro.
I was hoping to hear some "Predictions for 2009".
Looking back at prior years' Predictions, one has to ask who thinks they have any credibility left? :)
(UPDATE: FnS will be doing predictions. Others as well?)
Billy - Billy - Billy...wrong about everything - always
Good morning on this last Sunday of 2008.
I just had breakfast with the birds. While I had grapefruit and a muffin, the birds outside my kitchen window had a breakfast of mixed seeds, peanuts and berries. We all enjoyed ourselves. :)
It is so windy here (gusts over 50 mph right now) the only thing flying around are tree branches at my house. What a bizarro winter so far. Snowstorm, snowstorm, snowstorm, plus 12 degrees, wind storm, and it will be followed by more storms. The weather gets stranger every season.
Hope your birds ate well POP!!! My feeders are being emptied by the wind:-(
It's in the upper 70s here this morning and partly cloudy. We have winter in spurts here and right now, no spurts.
I want to be the first today to say that David Gregory sucks!!
He spent the first several minutes with Axelrod trying to connect Obama with Blago. He tried some gotcha questions that made him look like a childish ass. They gotta get a better host or that show is doomed.
I'm off to breakfast. Granola and Pineapple. I can't watch at this hour. I'd get indigestion this early.
You won't miss a thing on the Gregory/Axelrod interview. The rest of it went just as the beginning did. Gregory asking silly questions and Axelrod trying to give sensible answers. Too bad Axlerod wasn't in the studio with Gregory, he would probably have thrown his shoes at Gregory.
Holy crap! With all the other chaos of the moment, I almost forgot about that non-issue! How prescient of Gregory to remind us of it.
Asswipe.
David Gregory does in fact Suck super long donkey shlongs.
He attacks dems with such vigor, and he's all buddy buddy and friendly with the GOPers.
It's so obvious. Bought and paid for media.
I'm looking forward to watching Leon Panetta. And seeing what he has to say.
When he quit the WH as BC's Chief of Staff. I knew something was up.
too bad it won't happen to the media microphones.
as bad as the critics say? I want to see it myself!
I believed the critics. And they were right. I saw it for the special effects, which were nothing memorable or new. Thought War of the Worlds was better and that was pretty bad.
Going to try the Brad Pitt/Button movie today.
you might get shot...
as a long time movie buff i can definately say most movies made today are pure crap, and comedys especially stink, obviously we have few writers left in america that can write anything better then how to do it books or autobiogrphys of famous people , and if these movies made on comic book characters are any indication of this nations mentality we are truely fucked! take valkyrie with tom cruise as baron von stoffenburg , he wasnt right for that part but hes a box office draw, and hes the weak link in the movie, most movies made today arent even worth the 3 bucks you spend at the movie rental places , and you sure cant judge a movie by the major actors who made the films,
However, I have seen dozens of great movies in the last two years. Foreign, independent and some movies that don't even make it to DVD. Truly original plots, controversial subjects that don't fly in hollywood and fresh acting faces instead of the recurring ones in hollywood. And no many of these are not on netflix either.
Great stuff but you have to hunt it down. IMBD, utorrent, etc.
...the Israeli foreign Minister's name is "Zippy"??? :)
("Tzipi")
will be in WORSE shape than today.
More unemployment, more financial turmoil, less credit, more debt...
I do not think most people reealllly understand just exactly how fucked we are, and how long it's gonna take to fix it--if, that is, it is possible to fix it at all...
economists are predicting 10 years of recession. 0 growth for ten years. It will be a corporate wet dream. I remember well the bad one in the 80's here. Employers treated their workers like crap, and always ended their speeches with "10,000 people can take your job today, so if you don't like it...."
I would never predict all... or even most... of the damage from Bush to be undone in one year, but with the new Administration recognizing the need for Regulation, infrastructure investment, getting out of Iraq, and investing in Green Jobs, I expect things to be "better", not worse.
Like a critical patient... stop the bleeding and stabilize the patient.
So no matter what the US Prez does, there are so many economic factors that can prop up or sink whatever he does, that it's really limited what they can do. Interest rates can't get lower, and still companies aren't borrowing because they are too far in debt already. I hope you are right Mugsy. I don't want to see another world war.

I've got to wonder.
On FnS, the footage they show of Caroline Kennedy's interview on "NY1" is shown as having bad reception, with a staticy picture.
One of the panelists thought it "a double standard" that the Media treated Palin as an "intellectual rube while Caroline Kennedy gets a free pass."
How dare they treat Krystal's gal like that! Just cuz she ain't got no stinkin law degree..
"One of the panelists thought it "a double standard" that the Media treated Palin as an "intellectual rube while Caroline Kennedy gets a free pass."
Caroline probably knows what the Bush Doctrine is and can probably tell you a couple of newspapers that she reads....even though she can see New Jersey from her Park Avenue apt...and I doubt she'd give interviews in front of a Turkey throat slitter. I don't think she went to 6 colleges before finally getting her degree and I doubt anyone in her family is part of a secessionist movement.
Caroline Kennedy may or may not be qualified but she's not a rube. Sarah Palin was unqualified AND a Wasilla rube plucked from the back woods tundra to help John McCain. Lotta good that did.
that has been sitting DOA on my driveway for the past six months. Since these guys aren't doing much forward thinking, I guess it's up to me to clear out the clutter...
just what change do you expectin 09? obama talks about 3 million jobs for infrastructure rebuilding , when 3 million jobs are just a drop in the bucket compared to how many unemployed thier are in this country , obama says some of thoes jobs will be manufacturing jobs created that cant be outsoursed to other countrys , just what products is he talking about?green energy products? anything we can or will produce will be sent to china or india , as any plants that produce these products are controlled by the corporations who will gladly sell us out for cheaper labor, as for the infrastructure construction jobs , come on folks isnt it unsafe enough driveing over bridges and highways that were once built by construction companys with skilled labor but who cheated on high grade materials to build our bridges and roads buildings ect, and you think a bunch of jacklegg no nothing construction laborers will rebuild a worthwhile safe infrastructure,? as i said before the government is out to destroy the unions wether it be the auto industry or the largest unions left in america the construction unions,
Condi is on Sunday Morning. Her lips are moving.
and we all know what that means.
?
Q: How can you tell when a Bush official is lying?
A: Their lips are moving.
I see they have Laura Bushie on for the whole hour at Faux Noise. No doubt she will attempt to polish the turd known as her husband. She will go on and on about how poor George is " misunderstooded" and that history will wake up and love him 3000 years from now. Just about the time the earth starts to recover from multiple thermonuclear exchanges and nuclear winter. History needs a boot in the balls, if it ever treats this band of murderous lying ass thugs with any thing less then complete contempt.
when she was 17.
"The police report confirming that Laura Bush had killed a man in Texas had been kept confidential until after Laura Bush became the first lady and this fact has widely been viewed as an attempt by the Bush camp to keep a lid on any negative reporting in the race leading up to the election."
That would make for an exciting hour!
Whenever a winger brings up Chappaquidick I throw that one in their face. One big pickle Bushie's family connections got Pickles out of. Killing, and getting by with it, just runs in the Bush family I guess.

That's Laura Bush? I thought it was the Joker.

How would you like to go to your grave knowing your husband ran the country into the ground effecting ending America's dominance in the world.
Gregory tried desperately to get Axelrod to flip-flop on Obama's call to rollback (actually, Gregory said "raise") taxes on the Rich "in these economic times" because (apparently) "the economy would hurt" by raising taxes on "anyone" in this economy.
Axelrod did a bad job of defending the plan to let Bush's tax cuts expire, but the argument NOT given was that a paltry "3%-5%" increase in taxes on the wealthiest Americans isn't going to cripple the economy or hurt business. The economy did just fine at the higher tax rate under Clinton.
Axelrod *did* defend the Obama plan as "a net tax cut" despite the rollback, but this insistence by the media that raising taxes on the richest Americans will only hurt the economy more has no basis in reality.
on the top 2%, as originally promised during the campaign. Is Obama just afraid of the soundbyte on Rethug radio? He certainly won't get any resistance from the other 98% of us...
Still on the Sunday show circuit? Ol' Bob's making a name for himself, eh? Let me guess...he's still talking about his opposition to the auto industry bailout. Wonder how much of a kickback he or his friends will get for bringing that VW plant to Chattanooga?
...McClellan's advice to incoming Press Secretary Gibbs. :)
"...be careful vouching for others."
David Gregory is not only a whore, he is a lazy whore.
Actually asked Axlerod about what some hack wrote in Newsweek about the Blago Affair. Something about since Blago said that Obama was only going to offer "appreciation," that means that Blago "might" have asked for more? WTF? Gregory wants Axlerod to comment on what some other lazy media whore is guessing about? Come on David! Come up with your own dishonest leading questions!
Then the panel. Some Rightie was actually bitching that the Left never really accepted Bush's legitimacy? WTF? Didn't Bush file a lawsuit to stop the Florida recount? Legitimacy starts with winning the f***ing election! Of course this idiocy went unchallenged.
"Meet the Press"used to be must see TV. Now it is just pathetic. Tom Brokaw tried to carry on after Tim Russert's death, but he is no Tim Russert. Then that hack David Gregory got the job. I don't know who thought he would be a sufficient replacement. He is an asshole. I can't stand to watch him. He's only slightly less annoying than Joe "Blowhard" Scarborough or Tucker "the f@#*@#" Carlson. Is this the best NBC and MSNBC can do?
.
Shit. Just went downtown to local grocery store. My town is flooded big time. They evacuated a whack of houses. I never heard anything. Must be getting old. Normally we have a small creek, but after all the rainfall it is a raging river. Hope everyone is all right. High winds have power off and on. Trees down. I have shingles all over my driveway. Some aren't even mine!! Yikes.
But the most pathetic of all, Fox News Sunday (naturally) gives First Lady Laura Bush a big, wet, sloppy kiss goodbye.
and when she puckers up, let's all turn and put our butts
right up to her lips......she and bush are used to this
since they have been kissing cheney's ass for 8 yrs.
Unusual. This Weeks "In Memoriam", of the seven killed in Iraq, three were 19. One was 21. Very atypical.
No shit!
Rather then concentrate on the casualties and the large number of civilians murdered by israel , CNN propaganda fist concern was , when will ground forces attack , the captured Israeli soldier (which had nothing to do with the brutal and criminal attack on Gaza , AND the Arab reaction and protest , that included the absurd and ridiculous questioned by the only male Asian announcer you'll every see on cnn , who asked " Are the protesters extremists or moderates " . Maybe they were all paid by Al Qaeda CNN or maybe the millions of protesters are just pretending CNN .
But you won't see the bloody Palestinian children going to hospital , laying there with their guts hanging out , and you wont see on the sanitized CNN coverage of GAZA , of the old men and women with holes in their chests , but as zionist Issaccson said to the Post after 9/11 ," showing pictures of dead Afghan civilians would be perverse ", because they are only Muslims and the complicit cnn coverage of the middle east , is sanitized , distorted and filled with outright lies .
