Our old pal Jane Hamsher was "Muckraker of the Day" on David Shuster's MSNBC program yesterday, talking about Harry Reid and how he's managed to bollox the Blagejovich-Roland Burris situation. Apparently she's managed to upset the Village applecart a bit with her critique. Good on her.

Reid should not try to use politics to trump the law. To do so is wrong and ultimately will be self-defeating.

I haven't been able to view a videos on C&L since the new format was adopted. Nothing I am able to do with mycomputer settings will allow them to play anymore. I've gotten into the habit of cruising other blogs in order to view the videos that are posted at C&L.
I normally run Firefox, but playing of vids in it is decidedly hit and miss.
IE almost always works for me.
The only thing that happens with IE is that the window momentarily flashes loading and then goes back to "Ready". nothing ever loads. Quicktime just shows a Q with a question mark superimposed over it. It's something specific to the new formatting at C&L, because the same video will play in either IE or QT on other sites.
Can't use Firefox. They won't allow it on these computers. They have all things YouTube blocked.

Sorry, I'm not more of a computer literate person--just relaying how I got past similar vid issues. Maybe someone else can help...

Reid sucked from the start. He needs to go. He has less spine than Daschle (if that's technically possible) and mirrors the competence of the Bush Junta. Boot him out. Give his job to Feingold. The REAL snake in the grass though is Pelosi. She has REALLY got to go.
I read about a year ago in one of these comment threads that Reid was listed as being a member of the Top 10 most corrupt people in Congress, but was never able to find attribution for that. But, being that he deploys a public personna of being an incompetent and spineless lackey in order to provide cover for his complicity with the gangsters who have been runnning this country, it's not hard to believe. It's in the same way that Pelosi deploys "bipartisanship" to provide cover for her accessory after the fact criminal complicity. You're right, both of these assholes, along with Steny Hoyer, need to be put on the streets.

that Reid and Pelosi are spineless Dems, or corrupt ones? It just seems convenient that people attack what they do pointing to that as the reason, when the reality could be that they actually support the same crap as Republicans.
It just seems to me, that anyone that has been in government for too long, are the problem. Doesn't seem to matter who they are or what party. Most of them are in the rich taxpayer category, so why would they do anything for the common citizens? It's like getting stuck in the mud with your car, and flooring it, and flooring it, and flooring it, hoping for a different outcome.

They are neither, intrinsically, weak OR corrupt. They are playing the game according to the 'rulez.'
They are both just machine pols, working for the "Party," which is the other half of The Party Of Property, to which they owe their allegiance (as opposed to the people whom the ostensibly 'represent'). They are acting in what they take to be their own 'best' interest, as 'insiders' in the system.
The One, Iron-bound Law of Institutions applies: people who hold power in Institutions will countenance reduction in the real power of the Institution, or a failure of its purpose, if that does NOT reduce their power WITHIN the Instititution...
Basically corrupt like the political systems they cling to. Following the "rules" their elite financail category implemented. Yes?
I listen to either Reid or Pelosi for more than a couple minutes, and my Crook radar goes off. I don't see a D or R beside the names. I see partisan corruption. Not their party, but their class i.e. rich.

Best that Burris watch out because he is the recipient of the dreaded Sternly Worded Letter from Harry Reid. Burris should withdraw now---or the dreaded consequences will follow---nothing.

In all seriousness, it will be interesting to see how Reid pulls this off. While I appreciate the fact he appears to be looking after the long term interest of the party in this case, I believe that Blago the arrogant jackass has forced his hand. But we shall see.
When Blago is convicted, my bet is that these latest act born of pure spite will work against him come sentencing time.
I'm sure that will be a factor but Blago has already dug his political grave with his blatant greed, arrogance, and self centered behavior. The appointment of Burris is just a continuation of his defiant f--k you attitude and tin ear for building political support through consensus and compromise. If I were him I would go into the witness protection program and stay out of the public limelight for good, his approval rating here is just about zero.
