I hope that Obama does take steps to limit executive authority. Start by getting rid of signing statements. Sign the bill or veto it, but uphold the law of the land . . plain and simple.
The older gentleman on the panel certainly did rip Bolton a new asshole. But this is exactly what the mainstream media in this country covered up. The opposition to the war here was treated by the press in many cases as un-American.
In the British Parliament, the prime minister has to FACE the parliament and answer the questions. We are now less a democracy in this country than a presidential monarchy, where a man like Bush can do whatever he likes with no opposition. Seems to me this is why we rejected George III in 1776.
Maybe we should seriously consider replacing our form of government with a Parliamentary government. When the prime minister fucks up on scale that Bush did, he can be removed from power by a simple no-confidence vote and Parliament has to reform a new government. We wouldn't have to wait for this useless impeachment process that never works anyway. I'm not saying to get rid of the title of head of state, let him greet foreign visitors and represent our nation like the monarch of England does, but severly limit his power.

Only works like that if it is a minority government. Otherwise, everybody votes along party lines like sheep and you are stuck with whatever policies the current government dreams up. So, not much difference really. And in the end, they all get together and have a nice lobster supper on the taxpayer, and chat away like long lost buddies.

John Bolton and John Yoo are both terrorists in the worst sense imaginable, and quite a few Americans are just fine with that. Too many of us believe that anything WE do is just and ordained by God for the good of the world, and those who disagree well, can just go straight to hell as far as they are concerned. Until we recognize failure in OUR thinking, we can't correct our actions as a nation, and the world will suffer right along with us. Some day, our actions are going to come back to bite us in the ass big time, and when the day of reckoning comes, I hope I am anywhere but in the USA!

I used to live in Chicago, where they have the annual Humanities Festival. There are many lectures and presentations given at different venues over a two week period (most on weekends).
One yearly discussion was a group of international journalists discussing how their country views America. This one always sold out (and probably still does), but I got a ticket for this particular event in 2004, right before the elections.
After the various journalists gave their scathing views of America, a Q&A session was held. The moderator, who was English and worked for I believe the Guardian, fielded the following question: "What can we as individuals do in order to change the view foreigners have of America?"
The moderator gave the following response: "Vote him out!", meaning Bush in the election to be held in a couple of days! Seems as if those foriegners have a pretty good handle on what our so-called leaders in government are really about.
