The explosions marked the second time in hours a U.N. school came under attack.
The Israeli Defense Force has shelled a UN school in the Gaza strip, killing 30 and injuring 55. Israel claims that Hamas militants were using the school as a base to mortar their troops, but the UN says that all the dead and injured were civilians. Even if the IDF were correct, something the Right accepts unquestioningly because the IDF never, ever lies like their enemies do, then Israel would only be responding to Hamas' war crime by committing another war crime. You can't get to the moral high ground - let alone win a COIN operation - by allowing the rules of war to be set by barbarians, something that the intellectually and morally bankrupt Right never seems to acknowledge.
And there are good reasons to believe that the IDF is simply lying as part of a propaganda war it admits has been eight months in the planning: the use of indiscriminate white phosphorus airbursts, in contravention of international law as it is understood everywhere except the US and Israel (the 1980 Protocol III to the Convention on Conventional Weapons containsa blanket restriction on dropping incendiary weapons from the air against military objectives "located within a concentration of civilians"); the way in which the IDF is throwing explosives around so freely that almost as many of its people have been killed by its own "errant' tank shells as by enemy action.
Of course they cannot acknowledge this - otherwise their only recourse for all the warmongering they've cheerled in the last eight years would be to commit symbolic sepukku and fall on the swords of their own punditry before vanishing from our public discourse forever.

I've only seen IDF reports saying there were outgoing mortar shells. Then again, the IDF also says that an arms cache at the school exploded causing the casualties. AND it says that booby traps exploded causing the casualties.
And the UN reports that the IDF used shrapnel shells fired from tanks on the school, causing the deaths. It says there were no Hamas types there, just civilians.

The IDF has a long history of such, and always makes up such claims with no evidence what so ever just for distraction.

It later claimed it was an accident, then changed its story and used the "human shields" justification.
Add to all this the claims made this past week by Israel that there is NO humanitarian crisis in Gaza (There is a humanitarian crisis) and the fact that Israel has allowed humanitarian aid in (It hasn't) and the fact that it claims not to target civilians (Using WP is evidence enough that civilians are being targeted), and it becomes painfully clear that Israel's actions amount to a war crime. It's simply a terrorist state.

I think it was pretty plainly stated in the very story you linked that it was a mistake in the vetting of information. There's no evidence here, not even a suggestion, that there was any deliberate deception going on.
So I must ask you, what exactly is your point here? Does the fact that one French broadcasting station made a mistake somehow give credence to the idea that the Israeli actions are justified?

But really your analogy is flawed. The situation is not nearly as simplistic as you make it out to be. There is a long history of grievances between both parties. It's not as simple as saying Party A is at fault because Party A fired at Party B.
Furthermore, in your analogy there is the real prospect of ending the violence permanently by taking out the one attacker.
In the scenario Israel faces, there is virtually no possibility of such an outcome. Their attack will likely produce more attackers in the future, not bring about peace.
