Alfred E. Smith Dinner: McCain savages Tweety, Olbermann and ACORN
I gotta admit: John McCain can be pretty damn funny... well, when he's not accusing Obama of being an un-American terrorist sympathizer. Here is the second half of his speech. It started out rather mean-spirited but actually ended on a nice note when he shared some warm words about his opponent.
"I can't shake the feeling that some people here are voting for me. Nice to see you, Hillary."
"It's going to be a long, long night at MSNBC if I manage to pull this thing off. I understand that Keith Olbermann has ordered up his very own 'Mission Accomplished' banner. They can hang it up in his padded room."

McCain was funny, but I think he did too much campaigning during his time at the podium.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
Everybody's funny. Now you're funny too.
This by far is much funnier...
Do we really want this guy as VP?
As stated by Joe Biden
"Look, John's last-minute economic plan does nothing to tackle the number one job facing the middle class, and it happens to be, as Barack says, a three-letter word: jobs. J-O-B-S," the Democratic veep nominee said at a morning rally in Athens."
That doesn't know Sunni from Shia? Do we really want a Veep that can't name a Supreme Court case, a newspaper or a magazine she reads? Do we reallt want a Veep that doesn't know the name of the general that is in charge of the surge? Do you really want to play this game?
I would rather neither. :) I just wanted to show that, people are not perfect, the ones running for office are not immune to imperfection, but it seems people think they should be perfect in all regards and know everything about everything, court cases, general,s names, how to spell... etc...
Leonardo couldn't get the smile of the Mona Lisa right it seems, thus may not be a perfect painting.
However that does not meant that the crayon masterpiece my 2-year old niece is in the same ball park regarding artistic qualities...
Saying how Palin and Biden are in the same ballpark because Biden may not be perfect is intellectually disingenuous to say the least.
There's a different between being imperfect (we all are), and being a complete moron (like Palin). There's a different between think "job" and saying "jobs", the case you were talking about, and not knowing the difference between Sunni and Shi'a. One is a matter of syntax, the other is a matter of life and death. Sorry, but there's no equivalence there.
Not funny. Bitter. Vindictive. Insulting. Hate filled. Republican.
I have to admit it, he was funnier than Obama. But then again, old people generally are very funny.
It pains me too, but McCain was on fire. Obama's speech actually felt a bit too harsh.
I have to admit I was a bit moved by what McCain said about Obama at the start. It was meant, hearthfelt and honest. It was McCain without Rove, McCain without the Election Static, McCain the Person might I say...
Oh and funny too... Got to love that build-up to Obama's speech!
McCain without Rove and politics is still an old, corrupt pathological liar with a temper problem who has a definite problem with minorities and an outright hatred of women.
This shit needs to be stopped and stopped immediately.
Where is this country's law enforcement? Where is the enforcement of The Patriot Act?
This reporter was kicked by McCain fans. This is vulgar and disgusting and shows that the forest fire McCain and Palin have ignited is not going to end before someone is hurt or worse.
Is this the kind of person we want running this country at perhaps the worst time in our history?
McCain and Palin have become terrorist breeders themselves.
Here's the story:
http://blog.news-record.com/staff/capblog/arc...
When it comes to direct violence, we know that McCain/Palin and their supporters have crossed the line.
I hope this reporter sues the law enforcement agency where this occurred, the secret service, as well as the McCain/Palin campaign and the RNC for all it's worth.
John McCain, in his senile dementia, doesn't have the balls to stop this nonsense at his own rallies; how will he grow the stones to run this country.
This is appalling and a overt violation of federal law.
If McCain were any kind of decent human being, he'd be on national television condemning this attack. What is it going to take for myoptic, senile old crank to do the right thing?
This wildfire which Secessionist Sarah (any surprise?) began and which McImpotent now cannot extinguish is going to cost them this election.
I think this reporter has every right to purse charges against this man and the McCain Campaign as well as the local law enforcement agency.
This disgusting attack on a news reporer needs national exposure and IMMEDIATELY. McCain & Palin had better "lawyer up" along with the RNC because this case will become a precedent for the immediate "cease and desist" suspension of the McCain terrorist campaign.
hawhawhaw..
mccain you now have a new carrer starting in January you can do stand up..
just quit being a PUBLIC SERVANT
Speaking of Tweety, Olberman, and Maddow - This story about a reporter being physically assaulted by a rabid criminal, intentionally brought to violence by Palin's rhetoric, needs to be brought to the attention of the american public today.
This cannot wait because it's a consistent story now.
McCain & Palin are stoking anger and terrorism at their own rallies now and this must be shut down immediately.
I also believe a national number needs to be given to americans at this point to report any violence or assault against them at these rallies.
Last night we heard of two Obama supporters being assaulted in NH; today we hear about this assault on a news reporter by one of McCain's base.
And the obvious question is this:
If Palin and McCain aren't capable of commanding the respect of their audience to act legally, where the hell is the Secret Service when americans are being assaulted?
Where is the local law enforcement?
Both of these agencies have fallen down on the job, that's clear.
They both deserve to be sued for derelection of duty.

Dude...will you STOP with the blog whoring. Your posts about this 'story' compose about half of the material here. Go away.
I saw McCain and Obama both. There may hae been a little meanspiritedness, but you know what? It was supposed to be funny, and McCain actually does have a pretty good sense of timing. I thought both were quite funny and both were good sports, at least at this dinner.
I plan on voting for Obama, and I don't much like McCain, but I believe in givin credit where credit is due, and McCain showed that he has a sense of humor and can take a joke, and that's a good thing in my book.
I was particularly disturbed by the hearty laughter about the Acorn/Ayers terrorist 'jokes.'
Kinda like when bush received guffaws of laughter from the National Press Club a few years back after he showed a video of himself looking for WMD's behind the curtains and under the furniture. Can you ever imagine a roomful of Cronkites laughing at any of this nonsense? Could press bias be more obvious?
I thought both were funny, but McCain had the better lines. I also thought his delivery was better.
Barack did too much "reading"...it looked like it was the first time he was seeing the material, which could be true.
Barack is his most sincere when he is talking about the issues. You can see he really believes in what he is saying. His closing was great.
Vote GOP and move forward to the 18th Century.
I thought Obama was the funnier, mainly for the remarks about Rudy 9ui11ani
Something about how hard it must be to win a rebuplican primary when competing with a crossdressing NY mayor - hilarious. Sorry republican
Just when we thought we no longer had a DOJ in this country, they find the rallying cry "ACORN" and they snap back to life.
This stunt is as old as the hills, folks. Iglesias tells us all about our AWOL Dept. of Justice.

the race is over. McCain is vetting himself for post Nov. work as a TV guest and pundit. So long Senator. Hello Comic.
This is quite good. Airquotes...:) " Eating their own" as they call it in political circles. So now we discover that it was the neofascist William Kristol who pushed for Palin. That could be why he's dissing McCain right now. McCain-inites are pushing back and calling Palin "an albatross" "she is a disaster" and we're stuck with her now.
That's why the press are no longer welcome at her pathetic terror rallies at this point. They've ditched McCain as their candidate and don't want any further damage to their Baked Alaskan doll for 2012.
News flash: Obama will win again in 2012. Then the first woman president will be Hillary Clinton.
Comparing Sarah Palin to Hillary Clinton is like comparing fillet mignon to ground chuck. When Palin returns as a disgrace to Alaska in November, the recall movement will already be in full swing. Then the criminal charges linking the Palins to Spenard Building Supply will be launched. After the Palin's pay off the multi-million dollar Troopergate lawsuits, that "payoff house" will be gone and they will be destitute.

knowing we are currently skirting the ragged edge of disaster and mccain is only making the situation worse.
but there is such a thing as "gallows humor," you know?
To be honest, I think that is actually why McCain shined here. Not only is he funny, and a natural comedian of the "roast" format, but he's clearly cooked and well done and I think the chance to joke and let down his guard was probably a great relief for him.
It's sad, really. There actually is a marginally respectable, human quality to the guy underneath the Rovian stupidity and ignorance. Please note, I said marginally. He's almost not human, but even the worst of us have a glimmer or two of redeeming qualities that can make you pause.
Barack did okay, but McCain is clearly more comfortable at such an "elitist" type gathering where roasting those in attendance (i.e., "mean" humor) is the form of communicating most favored.

Anyone surprised?? Not with predictable McCain, secesionist sarah and the Rotgut RNC.

The "just desserts" will be if this guy's intelligent enough to sue them and become a millionaire because they never vetted him and totally destroyed his reputation AND his future.
What future? This guy's a dick, a right wing lunatic who quotes hate radio.
Joe - who's real name is Sam, the plumber, who's not even a plumber, who says he's buying a business - except he's in debt, has bad credit, and had to get his house through one of those "commie" federal housing loan programs.
"Joe" is a loser, and he was going to stay one whether or not he got exposed.
Oh yeah, this would be a riot if soldiers weren't dying in Iraq & Afghanistan.
But they are. I'll save my laughs listening to the Monkey in Chief, Darth Cheney & all their cronies blubbering on the witness stand in the hague.
the only real problem i had was the backdrop - someone was not paying attention to that detail...
watching that oblivious old gentleman alternately eating and licking his chops throughout was rather disconcerting...
I can't believe you said that because the same thing happened to me. I kept being distracted by that guy and the way he ate.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
If are wondering who is that old guy in top row chomping away ==> Robert Morgenthau (D), age 89, District Attorney for New York County, New York, which is ~ the borough of Manhattan in New York City. He's been serving since 1975 (33 years). This November 4 he stands for re-election. Till death do us part with him...
What was with the old gentleman kept eating non-stop all through Senator Obama and McCaine's speech at the Alfred E. Smith Dinner last night? He was sitting exactly behind the speaker so it was hard not to look at him.
I couldn't believe that he didn't get it that all around the world people are watching him and he was very distracting.
By the way I enjoyed the speech very much
Pallin' around with terrorists much, Johnny McLiar?? Looks like Letterman has provided fuel to new blowback to Palin/McCain's pallin with terrorists meme.
This story is gaining traction on the internet and will, no doubt, be picked up by MSNBC later today - maybe even the mainstream media - that is, if they're not too engrossed in Joe, The Alaskan Plumber and the sheer backfire associated with this new McCain problem - destruction of this man's career.
I'd look for the Gordon Liddy problem to take hold today through the weekend, along with prime facie evidence now of actual "assaults on citizens" at the McCain/Palin terror rallies......
Then next week we can launch into interviewing McCain's mistress Vicki Iseman, the lobbyist who corrupted John McCain in more ways than one.
That should easily bring us through next week and John McCain will be totally swamped.
Indeedy-deed - we americans do need to know about McCain's full relationship with Gordon Liddy. I hope that TP is investigating this now and will bring it front and center this afternoon for us.
Here's something for now:
http://emptywheel.firedoglake.com/
The media has already talked about McCain's ties to John Singlaub and the US Council for World Freedom, which had ties to Nazi collaborators and right-wing death squads. McCain claims to have resigned the board in 1984--though he remained supportive until 1986. And he attended the group's events after the time, in 1984, when Jack Anderson (whom Gordon Liddy plotted to kill) exposed the group's ties to far-right radicals.
A news article and two documents tie McCain to the council in 1985, a year after he says he resigned. The group's Internal Revenue Service filing in 1985, covering the previous year, lists McCain as a member of the council's advisory board. In October 1985, a States News Service report placed McCain, Rep. Tom Loeffler, R-Texas, and an Arizona congressman at a Washington awards ceremony staged by the council.
This was McCain palling around with right-wing extremists who served as a front to supply funds to terrorists.
And then there's Carl Lindner, the CEO of Chiquita during a period when it was knowingly providing material support to terrorists in Colombia, first FARC and then AUC.

George Carlin: Who Owns You Americans!
You and I are not in the Big Club”
There’s a reason that education sucks, and it’s the same reason it will never ever ever be fixed. It’s never going to get any better, don’t look for it. Be happy with what you’ve got. Because the owners of this country don’t want that. I’m talking about the real owners now, the big, wealthy, business interests that control all things and make the big decisions.
Forget the politicians, they’re irrelevant.
Politicians are put there to give you that idea that you have freedom of choice. You don’t. You have no choice. You have owners. They own you. They own everything. They own all the important land, they own and control the corporations, and they’ve long since bought and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the State Houses, and the City Halls. They’ve got the judges in their back pockets. And they own all the big media companies so they control just about all the news and information you get to hear.
They’ve got you by the balls.
They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying to get what they want. Well, we know what they want; they want more for themselves and less for everybody else. But I’ll tell you what they don’t want—they don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don’t want well informed, well educated people capable of critical thinking. They’re not interested in that. That doesn’t help them. That’s against their interest. You know something, they don’t want people that are smart enough to sit around their kitchen table and figure out how badly they’re getting fucked by a system that threw them overboard 30 fucking years ago.
They don’t want that, you know what they want?
They want obedient workers, obedient workers. People who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork and just dumb enough to passively accept all these increasingly shittier jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, the reduced benefits, the end of overtime and the vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it.
And now they’re coming for your social security money.
They want your fucking retirement money; they want it back so they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street. And you know something? They’ll get it. They’ll get it all from you sooner or later because they own this fucking place. It’s a big club and you ain’t in it! You and I are not in the Big Club. By the way, it’s the same big club they use to beat you in the head with all day long when they tell you what to believe. All day long beating you over the head with their media telling you what to believe, what to believe, what to think and what to buy.
The table is tilted folks, the game is rigged.
Nobody seems to notice, nobody seems to care. Good honest hard working people, white collar, blue collar, it doesn’t matter what color shirt you have on. Good honest hard working people continue, these are people of modest means, continue to elect these rich cocksuckers who don’t give a fuck about them. They don’t give a fuck about you. They don’t give a fuck about…give a fuck about you! They don’t care about you at all, at all, at all.
And nobody seems to notice, nobody seems to care.
That’s what the owners count on, the fact that Americans are and will probably remain willfully ignorant of the big red, white, and blue dick that’s being jammed up their assholes everyday. Because the owners of this country know the truth, it’s called the American Dream, because you have to be asleep to believe it.

Jake Eaton, State Chair, GOP Montana, resigns in total disgrace and investigation of "voter suppression".
What doesn't the RNC "get" about how this country has changed? The people will not tolerate their low-life tactics any longer.
The GOP brand is toxic to the progress of this democracy. We will put them all out of office.

GOP Chairs: Beware
The people are watching you and we will have your jobs and you will find yourself in jail for a very long time.
Jake Eaton, Chair, GOP, Montana knows.
Jake Eaton has become an example of Republi-scumbag tactics that will not work this time around.
Geez, THAT john mccain in the video is very likable and coherent. Thank GOD its insanemccain out on the campaign trail and not "that one"!!
Mutliple personality disorder, senile dementia or very bad advice: you decide. I vote for senile dementia.
coupled with an insatiable desire to win. I think he knows he's not long for this world and will do whatever it takes to win, which is why he never has and never will.
Corporate advisers and marketers and "PR Specialists" . . .
Quite a product they've created.
An empty shell of a man once able to make his own decisions,
In his acknowledgment of Obama's virtues, McCain showed something his campaign has lacked - sincerity. Makes me wonder who McCain is voting for.
come on ohio! lets get behind two more ignorant mfos like bush , elect mccain and palin, no need for thinking just do it, then take the knife you cut your own throuts with and wash off your finger prints!
If THIS McCain had shown up to the debates and on the campaign trail, then maybe Obama would have some genuine problems.
He was ALMOST likeable during his comedy routine.
I got a tad frightened when I saw some people in this blog who were swayed by this old geezer: His delivery was horrible, his jokes were flat, and this guy has a stage stance which is just plain creepy and uncomfortable.
[insert snarkiness here] I know this is a partisan site, but c'mon where's all the great Obama stuff that he said last night? He had some really good material to work with.
"When are we going to stop trying to tell elected officials what to do. Our job is to spend the taxpayers' money the best way we can." -- Tommy Watkins, Justice of the Peace, Crawford County, Arkansas
EOM
"Who would have thought that a cross-dressing mayor from NYC would NOT be able to win the GOP nomination ?"
-Obama-
Yeah, they were both pretty humorous last night. funny jokes, some even well delivered.
But too bad it was at the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Dinner where comedy like this is expected. Both candidates had taleneted writers come up with some very clever stuff. Most of the humor had partisan inuendos yet, they both laughed at each other's comedy with apparent gusto. It almost seemed genuine at times.
Today, we're right back to a bitterly divided country again with no end in sight.
it's called "gallows humor".... it fits perfectly given the fact that the Republic is burning and Emperor George is fiddling away....
The only part that got kind of mean was the Olbermann stuff (but keith gives as good as he gets); other than that it was completely civil and good natured.
I've got the complete unfettered video of both routines at my blog: http://www.blackperspective.net/index.php/vid...
So it's very nice that McCain can be funny and gracious and all that. But the point here has to be, either Obama is somebody who is dangerous and risky and "pals around with terrorists", or he is somebody you can trade cute jokes with at a formal dinner. McCain cannot have it both ways.
His more conservative supporters (to put it kindly) were apoplectic after the second debate, because they saw McCain sharing the debate stage with Obama as legitimization. McCain was admitting, just by the act of engaging in a presidential debate with Obama and acting with [some modicum of] civility, that Obama is legitimate. That he deserves to be there just as much as McCain.
This will drive those elements even more crazy. Because if he's a terrorist, or a terrorist sympathizer, or somebody who is actively working with groups to subvert the election and rend the very fabric of democracy (or whatever hyperbole McCain used the other night), then you cannot joke around with him in public. If you really believe that about a person, you have to repudiate him.
Since you clearly do not think these things about Barack Obama, stop pretending you do, Mr. McCain. Stop lying about him.
You cannot have it both ways.
McCain is funny, alright. Funny looking. Reminds me of that lady getting plastic surgery in the movie Brazil. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f153/Curmud...
I saw both speeches and thought they were BOTH hillarious! Now if they could just do a debate like that...
http://christiansvoteobama.org
If Senator McCheese would have handled himself on the campaign trail like he did at the Alfred E party he might have been able to hold his ground in many more states then it looks like he has.
That's pretty good for America, we're finally showing that we can't be fooled by a clever slogan or bumper-sticker...
...however I haven't really heard a clever slogan or seen a clever bumber-sticker in this election cycle. So maybe we still can't be foold by a slogan, but we'll have to wait for one before we can know for sure.
I'm sure it will come from the Republicans, I mean, who's better at empty words then the Republican party.
Folks - try not to take too much offense at last nights jokes. Have you seen the "John McCain is so old...." jokes Obama told? The purpose of their speeches last night was humor - and they both took potshots at each other...
I can see why Biden wants to go shopping for "His & His" towels with McCain. He is funny and smart and has soul and apparently even a heart. It appears that the worst decision he ever made in his political career was to run for President. It doesn't suit him. He doesn't "do" tact and decorum. Ever since he decided he wanted to be #1 back in 2000 he has been gooning out, both by kissing up to Bush and now in running a nasty campaign against Obama, which even he must not be enjoying. I have a feeling that he will be just as happy as the rest of us when this is over and Obama is in the White House.
I think McCain would've been funnier had he just stood on stage and farted into the mike...on the bright side, he's just making Olbermann more relevent, which is definitely a good thing!
"OLD MAN YELLS AT CLOUD!"
It will be a long long nightmare for the world if mcsame pulls this off.
I have been in shock since the chimp was appointed in 2000 and it's hard to beleive the long national nightmare is almost over. God I pray it's over!
he might have had a chance of pulling it off.
You know, watching this clip on C&L and then watching Obama's, I thought McCain's stuff was a lot weaker than Obama's.
Then I watched the full clip on youtube. The beginning of McCain's speech (like a minute or 2 before this one) was much, much better and funnier. It actually made me lol.
I don't want to spout conspiracy theories, but why find a clip with that arbitrary cut?
