It seems like the GOP thinks that its best shot at gaining back the majority is standing in unison against everything President Obama does, even if it means delaying much-needed government aid to drowning Americans. This Toutube put out by Eric Cantor's office? Really? Contains the frequently debunked flat-out lie about funding for Acorn in the stimulus bill -- um, there isn't any.

It's really awesome of you GOP dudes to fail to help Americans suffering in this economy, and then boast about it!

Good luck with that, guys.

I am betting arrowsmith did not give permission to use this song

anyone want to contact their agent

Given that Joe Perry is a hardcore Repug, I doubt they'd care.

See what happens when you quit drugs. You get all conservative inside and your music starts to suck.

What ever happened to albums like Toys in the Attic?

Well to set the story fully straight, ACORN very well may and I stress the word may.... be eligible to receive some of the following, so let's not kid yourself here. So what the Republicans said is not a complete lie, but not a complete truth either.

So I suppose SilentPatriot does agree with the bill being written in secret, 300 mill. to buy new cars, millions for golf carts, more bureaucracy, and doubling of the Governments entire discretionary budget.........

Title XII of the spending legislation doles out 1 Billion for the Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) program.

A separate $10 million is provided in the stimulus package to develop or rehabilitate low-income housing under the Self-Help and Assisted Homeownership Opportunity Program (SHOP)

$4.19 billion for foreclosure relief through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program.

Although ACORN usually get their hands on such funds only after they have first passed through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development or state and local governments, the new spending bill largely eliminates these middle men, making it easier to get the money, and the legislative package provides these funds without the usual prohibition on using government money for lobbying or political activities.

The current version of the stimulus package would allow nonprofit groups to compete with states and localities for $3.44 billion from the $4.19 billion Neighborhood Stabilization Program allocation. The remaining $750 million from the program plus the $10 million in SHOP funds would be set aside exclusively for nonprofit groups.

has already made a statement saying they would NOT even ask for any money and that they were not in the business of doing any of this community development.

So it is really a moot point...

The GOP just made a video and the background music is a song about a hooker. Jaw drops... scratches head... confusion ensues... bangs head against wall... starts to laugh uncontrollably... pees pants...

...just going to say the same thing. Well, if there's one thing the GOPers have clearly demonstrated, they do not have any respect for other people's rights or property. "If you want it...take it".

is that karl rove is playing these idiots like a cheap fiddle, much to the benefit of AMERICA.

and if i'm right, we'll soon see a plea bargain, and i can start writing my book:

THE REDEMPTION OF KARL CHRISTIAN ROVE

and if i'm wrong, well, it wouldn't be the 1st time, seeing as to how i'm nothing more than an unbridled lunatic.

Rove is probably in there somewhere, but Gingrich has Cantor's ear (and soul).

one billion dollars for Acorn or not. Republicans celebrate ignorance just like juveniles. If they think it is in there you can try to show them it isn't, hell, Obama could knock on their door and tell them it isn't but they will block their ears and go nah, nah, nah, I'm not listening. If a Republican tells them it is in there it must be. Everyone else is lying.
After all, Republicans are the party of morality 'cause they don't murder babies.

The DNC and the Dems in power need to repeat often "Look what the Republicans have done to this country in the past eight years when they had sole power and used it for their own reward." People hwo are being laid off and losing their house know that the Republicans are to blame. They just need to be reminded... OFTEN!!!!

Yes

They need to be reminded...often, but the hard-core fanatics will still blame the Dems. My brother lost half his value of his 401K and blames it on the new administration.

???

Is your brother retarded? Or just a special needs child?

but he listens to Hannity, rush... all those idiots. It has warped his brain.. what little is left.
I love my brother but he and his wife would never listen to a Dem as we kill babies.
We once had a fight about politics and I didn't see him for 10 years and I missed him.

Jo, the hard core fanatics are going to vote for Sarah Palin also so don't worry about them.
What is the rational about blaming the new administration for the 401k loss? That just does not make ANY sense. If he can blame Obama for that then he will just say anything to justify his dislike for Democrats. He really does not need a reason (in his mind) but tries to justify it to others so he doesn't look so foolish but in the end he looks foolisher (LOL).

And it makes me cry because I really love my brother.

Dream on?

States and cities in scramble for stimulus cash

Well before President Obama’s stimulus package completed its tortuous path through Congress last week, state and local officials facing multimillion-dollar budget deficits, crumbling infrastructure and the prospect of massive reductions in services were already jockeying for the upper hand in deciding how the money should be spent..

When Mr. Obama signs the stimulus bill in Denver on Tuesday, it will release the biggest influx of federal dollars since the days of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s Great Society program. But it also is expected to set off a multitude of political battles across the map: between governors and legislatures, state capitols and city halls, and even between neighboring municipalities..

Gov. Mark Sanford of South Carolina, chairman of the Republican Governors Association, is among the most ardent opponents of the stimulus package, describing it as pork-barrel spending and bad policy and vowing — to the anger and chagrin of the Democratic members of the state’s Congressional delegation — not to take any of the money from Washington.

The Democrats (DNC) have to fight back hard on this. The Rupubs did this to Clinton and they took over Congress. Butttttttt... look what that got the people of the U.S. (This is what the DNC need to point out as often as they can. It got us Gingrich and Phil Gramm and Trent Lott and Delay (remember what Delay was all about when he ran the Republicans in Congress? It was "Fuck anything the Democrats wanted, did or said". And now they whine!!) and Bush and Cantor. The irony. Do not forget. Fight back from a position of strength. We Liberals and Obama need to debate, argue and fight back from our place of power. Fuck Cantor and Boner and McConnell.

I know Republicans hate the Democrats but do they hate President Obama twice as much because he is black and a Democrat? Is it possible to hate someone or something twice as much? The Jews hate Nazism, Christians hate Satan, and Moslems hate infidels. But do they hate them twice as much?

Steve Tyler puckers up for elephant ass

They forgot to mention the 200 Million to Bill Ayres,
And the 150 Million to Rev. Wright.
And the 400 Million to teach schoolchildren to say the Pledge in ARABIC.
And the millions for the plan to put Tu-Pac on Mt. Rushmore.

If you are going to lie, Why just stop at one?

Wright didn't get no 150 million. That's a lie.

How appropriate for the Congressional Republicans to use Aerosmith's "I'm Back" refrain to portray themselves as legislative Terminators (as in "I'll be back"). They might reconsider, however, the sorry political fate of the original Terminator, California Republican Governor Arnold Scwartzenegger. He currently presides over his own State government's economic meltdown, monkeywrenched by yet another Republican legislative minority that petulantly refuses to work constructively with the Democratic majority to pass a practical State budget.

but they aren't golf carts... ed schultz has one, loves it... had the head of the company on his show last week too:

GEM battery-electric vehicles are classified as low-speed vehicles, or neighborhood electric vehicles, and are street legal in nearly all 50 states on public roads posted at 35 mph or less. With a top speed of 25 mph, GEM cars have a range of up to 30 miles on a charge¹ and are great for traveling around neighborhoods, city centers or job sites.

I was truly inspired by Eric Cantor's video and created my own. Knowing that Representative Cantor is a huge Aerosmith song, I took another tune from their catalog for mine:

Last I saw Cantor had an average rating two stars, I think I can top that.

Nicely done.

that is just awesome! 10 stars for you!

didn't you do it as a video response to cantor's?

I did, but Cantor has to approve it as a video response. I'm not holding my breath, but you never know--somebody put my video of John and Cindy McCain to Jonathan Coulton's Millionaire Girlfriend on their Cindy McCain tribute Myspace page and it got a ton of hits, but I'm sure not expecting Cantor's people to approve it.

video response? In what understanding of the First Amendment, would a congressman be permitted to restrain your free speech rights? Please explain further? Thanks.

That is an interesting question: While youtube, a quasi public town hall, has a 'response to video X option,' and may have some legitimate rules to follow, at minimum, you have every right to tag away in your video so that it would fall within the related links, etc. Youtube has no right to prevent you from posting a 'related' video. In America, youtube could not block your free speech rights, aka your video, regardless of whether youtube is public or private, because content rules would uphold your free speech rights, particularly when it is a political concern.

and hire YOU to produce videos to send to all those TALKING HEADS on the cable news shows.

This video should make the rounds on CNN and FOX and MSNBC. The DEMS have got to point out in the STRONGEST TERMS that the Republicans voted AGAINST all those programs because they want to see this country fall into DEPRESSION before 2010.

Wow! I didn't expect this kind of response everybody. I've had my own little (about 150,000 hits) satirical blog for almost a year now and I've read Crooks and Liars for awhile, but never posted. However, when I saw this story on Think Progress I got a bit inspired. Thanks for all the kind words.

You stay classy, GOP.

When the GOP was in power they had the lobbyists write the legislation. Sure they had to actually get off the golf course and out of the cat houses to be present to vote.

Remember the '06 thumping. Then Pelosi changed the tenor to a 5 day week. OH Boy, did the republicans cry a river. They wopn't have time for lobbyists, hookers and family.

The GOP considers all these antics and "NO" saying as work. This is the same GOP that went on strike. A planned strike right out to the steps of the House to a podium with FOX News waiting patiently.

I have to admit, I am enjoying writing me Republican congressman and asking him if he identifies with the likes of Rush as his party leader. Or if Michael Steele speaks for him, Even if Terminator is a representative of the GOP?

Would he feel comfortable with Glen Beck talking about him (by name)on his show with Karl Rove?

Negitive comment on that video yet? Because it seems strange that all 23 comments are in support of the video, you would think there was at least one negitive by now.

Don't know if my comment will show up there, could they have blocks on keywords like "isn't this song about having anal sex with a prostitute?"

I've reloaded the page 3 times and my comment still isn't there. Just another example of stifling dissent?

Yea he's blocking comments that aren't in support of his video, I say this because he can't block low rankings or marking comments with a thums down. If you look to see it has a very low ranking strange for a video with only postive comments.

yesterday, they had a thread about this video, and there were A LOT of negative comments on the video...someone must have seen all the negative and ridiculing comments, and deleted them and then blocked any more from posting.
Yet, the damage has been done.

Hello.

Don't you guys understand they are copy catting, what we did.
They think we are dumb, or they think they can re-trick us, except this time using tons of miss-information on the internet. I am convinced there is nothing good republican, never will be.
The dumbo's running the show didn't get to their positions with skills and knowledge, they got their cheating backstabbing and stealing, along with a little bit of butt kissing and "yes man" tactics. It shows, the republicans lack of knowledge only proves they are comprised of total idiot know nothings.
That doesn't mean they aren't dangerous, hell one nuke could hit north eastern united states, from a sub in the waters around the Hudson bay area, and they'll have the majority once again.......Thank god the right wing NWO guys are total idiots or that nuke may have already hit. It's like Space Balls, or Dr. Evil and mini me, seriously that comical. Even the 3 stooges nuk nuk nuk.

I totally agree (except about the comical part), but now what do we do?

I guess they (the R's) still have not mastered using any type of search program. It would not have taken much typing and reading to realize the latest song theft would have very interesting implications for their nO campaign.

I would be shocked to learn that Arrowsmith allowed the use of their song. Or better, where is the recording industry now when someone is infringing their supposed copyrights, etc.?

I did not know that Perry is a Rethug., but I would think Tyler has to be a liberal, and not a faux libertarian?

the remaining Congressional members of the GOP are simply playing to their base, in order to keep their seats. All these GOP left overs are from deep red states and districts, with perhaps the exception of Orin Hatch (who is a red politician from a blue state). They are simply trying to hold onto their seats through the midterms.

Personally...stupid strategy. If they continue to pray that Obama fails and the economy does not rebound, it is more likely that the displaced and economically troubled in those remaining areas will toss their GOP representatives out.

Those voters will vote for change, not a continuation of their status quo.

The music died for Reslugs a long time ago and their destructive leadership. They will regret and pay dearly for being OBSTRUCTIONISTS and giving the finger to all Americans.

I think what should happen is ALL the Reslugs that said NO for their constituants should NOT get any money. Wouldn't their laid off and desperate people that back the stupid asshole love that.

he seems to be compelled to make these lamer than hell vids...
I say he should continue...as it only helps push the GOP closer to the brink of oblivion.

I wrote the following little ditty recently amidst the Blago-like scandal in which Florida is currently embroiled with now-former Republican House Speaker Ray Sansom and Northwest Florida State College, Sansom's hometown alma mater for whom he abused his power as legislator & procured millions of dollars for the school, among various other sundry acts of corruption and abuses of power. (I have also filed a SACS Complaint against the college, but in SACS' typical, higher-ed-corruption last-century manner of practicing "business-as-usual" politics rather than appropriately sanctioning institutions of higher ed for their flagrant politicking, human resources abuses, et al., they are refusing to disclose to me the details of their investigation and are now even refusing to respond to e-mails.)

I think this little ditty is appropriate, therefore, to this "discussion." Feel free to substitute the name of your favorite arrogant, last-century Republican. Enjoy!

The Sansom Anthem
(Sung to the tune of Na Na Hey Hey)

Na na na na na na na na
Hey hey Ray Good-bye
Na na na na na na na na
Hey hey Ray Good-bye

We'll never love you
The way that we loved you
'Cause when we did, you lied and then you
Made us cry
You might have fooled us Ray, but then you showed your (showed your)
True colors so pucker up and kiss our
Yes, pucker up and kiss our—pucker up and kiss our--behinds
(chorus x 2)

We want to jeer you
You double-dippin' heel you
While all the rest of us are
Standin'-- in the unemployment line
You might think you're entitled
But it's only—yes it is only
You know that it is only—know that it's only—your pride

(chorus x10)

We're really sick to death
Of all of you fat cats
Abusing power, stealing all our rights, everyday
You know it's true, Ray
We're sick of the games you play
Can't let you get away with all that dough
Oh no no no

Na Na Na Na
Na Na Na Na
Hey Hey Ray
Goodbye (rpt 2 end)
