i guess corexit only 'corrects it' if one is attempting to lo-ball BP's liability for the spill.
little known tidbit: the original name for this class of sweep-it-under-the-rug bio-killers was 'hidezit-kwik'

....that they can get more bang for their buck by donating to the Republican/Facist Party?
why the US Navy isn't down in the Gulf blowing these Coast Guard boats out of the water!
It is the Coast Guard Planes that are doing the spraying according to the Sea Turtle Action Team. And they had better bring thier night googles because the planes are sneaking out at night when we can't see them (and they can't see the oil slicks, either).

Thank heavens for C&L keeping us informed of this startling new development. If not for the blogosphere this news would probably have been covered up.

Those toxicity tests don't tell the half of it. Dispersants may test a some level of toxicity and the oil at another. Seperately, They may be tolerable, but the dispersant form what is called a non-breaking emulsion. They dissolve the oil so that it won't seperate out into an oil layer and an aqueous layer. In all the toxicity testing I've done over the years, the toxicity effect is highly synergistic. The slang we use to describe such mixes is "death juice", if that gives you an idea. As a result of such testing, there are entire classes of compounds that we not only will not use, but will not even allow to be brought onto the property.
Not to sound alarmist, and acknowledging the near miraculous power the ecoshpere has to heal itself (if it would only be left alone and allowed to...), but the shear magnitude of this spill and the magnitude of application of these compounds could be an ocean-killing event. the only consideration here seems to be impact on profits. They clearly care nothing about doing the right thing. I wonder how that will change when all of this oil is finally transported to British shores by the gulf stream?
"Corexit". This has to be one of the most ironic misnamed chemicals ever. It's not "correcting" anything. I also hate the corporate trend to make "cute" names like Corexit. I guess madison avenue came up with that one; if it's got a cute and sexy little name, it can't be harmful, right?
Sickening.
