While Teabaggers Blathered On, The Children Were Inspired By Obama's Message.
By Susie Madrak Wednesday Sep 09, 2009 6:00amWhile I have many problems with Obama's leadership on certain issues, there is one area where I won't fault him a bit: He's doing a wonderful job as a role model to kids everywhere.
The President of the United States has a lot in common with Philadelphia schoolchildren, U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told a classroom full of them.
"He didn't know his dad," Sebelius, former governor of Kansas, said of President Obama. "He moved a lot. But he knew how important school was."
Sebelius, U.S. Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.), U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah (D-Phila.) and Mayor Nutter watched the president's address to schoolchildren this afternoon at Thurgood Marshall Elementary, a K-8 school in Olney.
Sitting in a classroom with all the dignitaries was Teasia Squire, 12, a 7th grader. She sat up straight and never took her eyes off the big screen that projected the president's image into the room.
She was wowed by the speech, Teasia said.
"It was a wake up call," she said. "It was really good."
Her take away?
"We need to be in school, and we need to be our best," Teasia said.
Her social studies teacher, Crystal Gary-Nelson, was inspired by the message.
"I wrote down key quotes, and I'm going to post them throughout the year," Gary-Nelson said. "We're going to discuss this, and they'll have to take a pledge - 'This is what I pledge to do to help my nation.'"

Here are the preliminary results from Obama's speech.
What's with the red glowing eyes?
the red glowing, glowing glowiness is a SURE-FIRE sign that they done been zombificated by Obama!
but it has had less socially productive impact on our white children, who despite good intentions, still haven't mastered the craft.

Teh white dancing!
That's worse than American Bandstand dancing!
Red eyes are creepy, but if my pre-teen grew that much facial hair over the course of a 30 minute speech, I'd have really freaked out.
If he learned how to repair motorcycles or hold a job a real long time the hair growth would not bother me.
It's all fun aaaaand games, until some kid with glowing red eyes, listens to an Obama speech, suddenly grows facial like a Cuban dictator, learns the fine art of motorcycle repair. all in 30 minutes, then gets his face ripped off from gettin his new beard caught in the chain!
I swear, will people ever learn?
I didn't know it was in the chopper shop.
The Sundance Festival died in Bolivia.
ricky...they got chopper shops in Bolivia.
That is where they fix the Vespas with the styrofoam coolers on back that bring Cargill goods to the Tiendas. I have seen the ads.
Back in my day they had to bring in goods by llama.
llamas?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbwkkXGmFrI
That was great. hadn't seen that one.
Must bring back some memories for ricky....
I'm sure it does curtilingus....I'm suuuure it does.
I know it is where I got much of my Spanish vocabulary. And they are bigger than frogs, you know. Llamas, I mean.

At first it was mildly funny, but then I started really cracking up when I realized the song was looping and I had already watched it four times!

.
That's easy enough as long as he keeps his britches hitched up.
Thinking of beards here's my picture:

YOU JUST CAN'T trust a Bush.
Hey.
That link is "stlsantacrawl." Is that from St. Louis? Looks like me!
... that the wackier, the crazier the teabagger crowd gets, the more they'll drive people to listen to Obama as 'the voice of reason.'
Slick, packaged, marketed, branded, plastic . . etc.
Hell Susie, Those folks have as much sence as a freakin' BOX OF ROCKS!. Obama IS an excellant role model for the
nations'world's children, truth to tell.I wouldn't tell my kid to model themselves after any politician. Its a pretty sleazy business.
made a cool and easy $100 Million from his Vitawater deal?
ummm....Uranus?
Ur-wallet.
It's got NO money in it.

any parent worthy of the job should be proud to have the President address their kids with such a positive message
let's see the reichwing whose kids are going to government run socialist schools, are going to indoctrinate the kids to be children of the corn types, and eat their parents....
texas should go away, and pay us for your roads, schools, and all other socialist government run areas, your silly actions, only takes us northern god haters down.....
I have a deep feeling that a lot more kids needed to hear that message than we'll ever know. There are a lot of things happening in kids' lives that weren't there a couple of years ago. Their parents out of work, perhaps moving or losing their home. They need to hear someone besides mom and dad telling them they still have a chance and with hard work, they can change themselves and their world.
Madison avenue and the media found the way to bypass mom and dad 20 years ago.
I think the age of Tween has been lowered to 7 now when they start bombarding kids with sexist consumerist messages.

and think about the implication.
Don't you realize what he did!
He was on a screen, A SCREEN!
Check the feed, I just know he was using subliminal messaging, flashing fascist commie socialism to those poor brainwashed kids while he was speaking!
I bet he programmed them into an unstoppable army of Obamabots bent on destroying the very fabric of American life!
Heed my words people, watch those kids closely!
/snark
Play the speech backward, it's all there.
I bet it contains something about transfats being good.
It was widely cited as a cure for anorexic impulses. That and his affinity for plus size devils in the blue dress.
All electronic devices are required to be stored in their locker ALL DAY. Cell phones, Ipods, etc, etc.
That should be the rule in EVERY school!!!! My kid has a cell phone. He used to be able to text. NO MORE!. He got caught in a class texting and I told him if he ever did it again I would punish him in a way that he would always remember. I check his cell phone bill every month to see when/what time he is calling and who he is calling. If there is any calls during the school day he gets a ration of shit he wishes he never got and gets punished. School is a vehicle to get to the next place he has to be. What he does after he is finished with school is his business but at least he will have opportunities. What happens then we will have to see.
Kids have always been a lot smarter than parents (and especially THESE parents) give them credit for. Perhaps THAT'S what this group of bigots fear, that those kids will take that example.
the more parents try to control their kids, the more they'll rebel.
when the next batch comes of age and rebels against their parents . . "all my stupid parents do is sit around on the stupid computer staring at the internet. Ughhhh."
and I know my history of Ys links.
Obama got his inspiration here.

30 minutes a day of Corporate brainwashing commercials in school these days or did the board of educations wise up? Have the soda pop and junk food machines been removed?
Oh my god how would survive if we didn't have soda and junk snack machines.
I made it through school without the junk machines and so far, so good.
never having had one soda, snickers, or bag of grease chips in school.
There are benefits to growing up poor. My parents wouldn't give me money for anything but necessities. I did sneak into the teachers lounge once when I was in the second grade. I used my milk money to buy a coke from the machine. Nobody caught me and I felt like I had pulled off the biggest caper ever.
Shoes for school we're bought that were practical and made to last. Not because Michael Jordan wears them and they cost $175. Etc, etc.
My son wears Converse Jim Morrison All Stars.
was all there was when I grew up. There was no other choice in a sneaker except high or low top. And black or white.
For me it was Sears of K-Mart.
I grew up learning to use my own mind, thinking ability, creativity and imagination instead of being directed by the media about how to be cool, what to do, what to wear, how to be popular, etc etc.
kick Evet's son's ass. When he finishes walking home ten miles through the snow.
Up hill both ways?
????
. .
I would say there would be too many fast food franchises on the way for any child to make it home. That's why Daddy picks them up in the snow machine and comes back to get them to take them to hockey practice.
also.
Don't worry we have a fine selection of pills to make your kid relax.
Hog Farm not Big Pharm.

trimmed back to keep school budgets balanced.
music programs and after-school activities cut as well? :-(
He wasn't born with a golden spoon in his mouth like the last socalled president we had.
He actually worked for what he has. In stark contrast to what bush did, or will do!
republicanism is a mental illness!
What an amazing speech. Not a thing in the world wrong with it. Shame that some deprived their children of such a moving moment.
This could be a good thing though. Inspire the intellect and let the dumb stay dumb. Sounds like a good idea to me.
It really is a shame when children suffer due to the ignorance of adults.
Obama is being a good role model? Really? You want kids to learn to promise things to get a job and then forget about the promises?
I voted for him, probably will again, but fer cryin' out loud he is betraying the people who got him elected at every turn.
One thing I've learned in my 50+ years - don't look to actors, sports people, or politicians for role models...EXCEPT for Bogie!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yw0aoVpFCDw
Not Oogy Boogy, Bogie! >snicker<
We have to fight back against these bastards. Olbermann has suggested he has started, and we must follow suit.
fight back the lies and bullshit with truth and facts. An uneducated population is the GOP's strongest weapon.
why all the brouhaha over Obama's address to the kids? Reagan did it, so did Daddy Bush, and no one said anything then.So maybe some kids get inspired, maybe they forget in a week or maybe they remember that speech that made them dream something bigger.
I've heard his speech, I've read the transcript, whether or not you voted him in, Dem or Republican, WHERE OH WHERE in that speech is there anything even remotely controversial?
