Via the Plumline. You know, this wouldn't be difficult to fix. A phone interview with a staffer noting all major current issues and asking about any financial connection, and a release you sign to that effect before going on the air. In fact, it's so easy to do that I'd guess they just don't want to know.

I mean, why is a known GOP hack treated as an "expert," anyway?

Of course, if they fixed this, they'd have no one left to interview but neutral academic types and bloggers, but it would make for much more educational TV! Greg Sargent:

CNN has acknowledged in a statement to me that a high-profile Republican commentator who frequently discusses health care on the air is also the media buyer for one of the ad campaigns bankrolled by America’s Health Insurance Plans, the major industry trade group currently waging war against the White House and Dem reform proposals.

CNN tells me his ties to the industry will be disclosed in the future.

The CNN contributor, well-known GOP consultant Alex Castellanos, is best known for producing the racially-charged “Hands” ad, has repeatedly appeared on the network attacking Dem health care plans and the public option, which is strongly opposed by AHIP.

Castellanos’s consulting firm, National Media, also recently placed over $1 million of TV advertising for AHIP, according to info obtained by Media Matters. AHIP’s most recent $1 million ad buy attacks the health care plan as a threat to Medicare.

And in other CNN-related news, some real progress:

Some good news today-- we're raised enough to move forward with our TV ad buy with our partners at Media Matters and DropDobbs.com as part of the effort to hold CNN accountable for airing 260 hours of anti-immigrant hate (aka Lou Dobbs Tonight) a year.

We just sent this email out to our advocates, below. We look forward to continuing to work with our partners to keep the pressure on CNN.

Any help with blog coverage or social networking outreach would be much appreciated! I just tweeted this:

Spread the Word! RT @americasvoice: Success: Dobbs Ad to Air on CNN http://bit.ly/33FoZl #ri4a #CNN #p2 #immigration

This is disgusting. There is no way Alex Castellanos can ever be on CNN as an annalist or round table commentator or in any other role. This is an example of how to lose credibility. WHAT IS CNN THINKING??

CNN pretty much is now FOX lite.

They have lost ALL credibility, especially today after following that story with the media whore parents.

Isn't Alex Castellanos the asshole who came up with the Willie Horton ad?

More Alex Castellanos info

and another one.

It was on the blogs a couple of days ago that Dobbs is being considered for Faux business channel. CNN should jump at the chance to be rid of this disaster for their network. Hopefully the end is near for the damn bigot. Only a disgraceful network like Faux will take him.

Is it the 21st century yet?

And then, he he he, once we get all of the fascist hate mongers in one place, we SEND IN THE BLACK HELICOPTERS! Off they go to the FEMA camps, on goes the 'delousing' gas, and.....No wait, that's their fantasy. Darn, I really like it, though.

The man can stand his ground on many levels and I sincerely hope that readers will back him on his Ben Bernanke petition. Help grayson as well as all of us the American people to stop the madness that is the Federal Reserve.

Grayson calls on American public to ‘Unmask the Fed’

Florida Democrat U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson wants Americans to help him block Congress from confirming the Chairman of the Federal Reserve to his second term unless he hands over documents relating to the bailouts of financial institutions, including the rescue of Bear Stearns.

In the "Unmask the Fed" campaign, Grayson calls on constituents to sign petitions demanding that Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke "come clean" before senators re-confirm his appointment to the helm of the Federal Reserve.

Seems reasonable doesn't it... to audit/investigate what went on and how the Fed chairman acted during the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression instead of just blindly trusting him to another term??

I saw his connection to the ad company in a text box beside him one day while he was spewing his lies and repeatedly running down real adults that are actually trying to help people. I couldn't believe that CNN would be stupid enough to put him on air. It's just one more reason that CNN has lost my loyalty. They give so much more time and attention to the rightwingnuts than to the people that are trying to help that they've almost completely lost their neutrality.

So he rattles a few nerves and he offended Repug precious sensibilities........people are listening to Rep. Grayson.
if the good Congressman takes a few lumps along the way, well good for him, he will carry those wounds proudly, and the crybaby Repugs will play the victim just like their mouthpiece Limbaugh, as always.

I can answer that question for you meatsack..........all of the people that cannot afford medical conerage.
Any other questions Castellano?........you meatsack.

Um, you want the following people to die, I would guess:

Liberals, gays, atheists, Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims, black people, poor people, me, everybody else who reads and posts here, the webmaster of this blog, etc.

the truth comes out. Alex Castellanos is a slimy, crooked scumball.

How nice of CNN to admit it. What will change? Nothing.

Be fair. Every Beltway insider is a hack.

It's just a question of which John they're blowing at a particular time.

Vote GOP and move forward to the 18th Century.

I love seeing this again. Grayson stands tall and proud with the truth empowering him even more.

The 4 clowns ... well what can I say? He exposed them for the CORPORATE WHORES that they are. As we find out even more today.

What a surprise. Not!

Was Wolf Blitzer off his meds during that segment?

It's not that CNN doesn't want to know about potential political conflicts, they already do know. They just pretend not to.

Ew-ww-www, he's creepy. Reminds me of Snerdly Whiplash - the weird and quite incompetent villain Dudley Do-Right fought in every cartoon.
I was reminded of that because most of CNN has become a cartoon.....useless.

Because corporate media and much of NPR has been corrupted..Castellanos, the "slimy, crooked scumball" is well known to the media.. as are the rotating cast of other slimy crooked scumballs to whom the media regularly turn.

I can't bring myself to contribute to NPR anymore, despite some interesting programming.. their news organization is so tainted.. I will give to Democracy Now..

In the world of news entertainment, these round-robin actors are in high demand, both because they are willing to spew crap and because they act sincere in their delivery.

CNN

CNN is such a crappy station I wouldn't watch them if someone paid me to.

They can't get anything right - it's a complete waste of anyone's time. If CNN is the best choice - you might as well turn of the tube and watch a movie instead.

CNN sucks almost as bad as fox. Castellanos what a tool. That is the one thing about modern day republicans, they have spent the last thirty years learning how to lie and be dishonest. They have spent so much time learning how to lie they have been unable to see that their lies are comming back to haunt them and us! They don't care!
republicanism/conservatism is a mental illness!

Diabolus est Deus Inversus

Castellanos gets a paycheck to smother this new guy at birth and bury him in a hurry. Rachel did it for hubris alone, no fee. Sometimes it's hard to know which way to swing. :) My fist.

Who is that black man on the panel of ex-perts? My God, but he's obnoxious with his soft syrupy GOP love contribution.

chervilant's picture

blacks, and members of many other 'minority' groups, are often trotted out by CNN and the other M$M to promote the fallacy that many other members of those 'minorities' support the corporatists' regime.

IMHO, any member of any race who embraces or promotes corporatists' ideology has channeled their personal greed towards obtaining wealth and/or power at whatever is their self-perceived level in the wealth hierarchy. Money is their deity. Chasing the old wealth carrot is their game.

Blitzer is still the worst CNN Reslug talking head. I boycotted CNN years ago when it turned into the next Faux Noise.

"Of course, if they fixed this, they'd have no one left to interview but neutral academic types and bloggers,"

Did I miss something? Why would they interview bloggers and why are you putting bloggers in the same category as `neutral academic types`.

Lest you've forgotten, anyone can blog and the popular blogs are not necessarily the best ones for factual, neutral information. I get that you guys blog, I don't get why repeating news you find elsewhere and giving your opinion makes you someone anyone should really listen to for advice??
