Oh, those horrible, awful, violent liberals. Neil Cavuto dug up brought health care protester William Rice out once again to show viewers how mean and violent liberals are. Evidently, Bill is a little upset about the lack of attention he's received since his original 15 minutes of fame back in September and was happy to re-enact his heavily edited version of events in Thousand Oaks.

You may not recognize his name, but I do. I was present at the September MoveOn vigil for health care reform in Thousand Oaks and saw the incident unfold in real time through my camera lens. That's why it was a bit of a surprise to me to hear Mr. Rice describe his involvement this way:

... I was in the process of leaving when I was accosted by a man, came across the street, screaming at me that I was an effing idiot. And he was waving his arms in a violent way, and he came at me as if to attack me. So a scuffle ensued and my fist ended up in his mouth, and he bit my finger off.

Not so much. Mr. Rice seems to have forgotten a few things, like the fact that he threw the first punch, nailing the guy hard between the eyes, knocking him into the street and oncoming traffic. He also seems to have forgotten the second punch he threw where Rice's "fist ended up in his mouth" [Rice's description]. The coincidental presence of Rice's fist in the other guy's mouth got a reaction: the tip of his finger was bitten off.

Cavuto trotted Mr. Faux Victim Bill Rice out there to try to paint liberals as violent, firebreathing evildoers, but he chose a very bad example. There were no heroes in Thousand Oaks that night. There was Bill Rice, who decided he had the right to punch a man in the face who he disagreed with, and the man who bit his finger off, presumably after the fist found its way into his mouth.

It was an ugly incident all around, but not at all what Cavuto and Rice described. Of course, that won't stop the teabaggers from trotting Rice out whenever they want, now that he's one of them, or so he claims.

There are more photos of the incident here. They tell the story better than Rice did. Rice is the guy in khaki.

It's pretty pathetic to see Faux News pimp a guy who initiated a violent attack on someone else as a victim, but then...it is FOX after all.

You go, girls.

Jodie Evans: You outed a CIA officer, you lied to take us to Iraq. You ruined the country. You totally ruined the country.

Wonkette:

Fancy book-author Karl Rove went to Beverly Hills last night to take questions about his very very gay dad. But then Code Pink showed up to make a citizen’s arrest, and Karl had no security! Was he able to beat up these ladies good? Also, someone brings up the Downing Street Memo, which Rove calls a fabrication — just like in 2005!

Lying us into a war is the kinda thing that can get people a tad bit upset. Does Rove really think he's going to be welcomed at book events like he is with Jay Leno or on FOX News? Poor Michele Malkin was shaken to her core over the event. I'd figure it would just roll off her back since she stalks children and family's like Graeme Frost because she disagrees on a policy level. Hey, she even goes to their homes for a little chat.

UPDATE: TP commenter Mr. Ed notes that Malkin visited the Frost’s home and business today. A coworker of Mr. Frost tells Malkin that the family is “struggling,” but she refuses to believe it.

Jane Hall was on FOX and was shocked that the right wingers attacked a 12 year old boy.

Jane Hall on the Frost family: Right Wing bloggers swiftboated a 12-year old boy!"

Malkin and her kind are shocked that Rove would be confronted by the very un-scary Code Pink, but takes pride in stalking children. Nice.

They can sure dish it out, but they can't take even a light little pink-colored whiff of it.

Fox News' Brian Kilmeade caused quite a stir in 2007 (see above video) when he suggested that members of Code Pink should be tased or beaten to a pulp. Media Matters asks the question -- Does the one who is not Steve Doocy believe the astrobirthers who are disrupting health care town hall meetings should be treated the same way?

That sure doesn't sound like the Fox News of today which seems quite impressed by the GOP mini-mobs which have been formed expressly to heckler Democratic politicians who want to discuss health care reform with their constituents at town hall meetings.

But back in 2007, when anti-war protesters who make up Code Pink, made headlines by disrupting an official event, the Fox News morning team was seriously pissed off:

During a discussion about a Code Pink member heckling Hillary Clinton at a recent event, Fox News host Brian Kilmead said that people who confront politicians are “threatening” and should be Tased or “beaten to a pulp,” as the establishment media continues to sell the idea that anyone who disagrees with authority should be brutally punished. Dennis Kucinich at the Global Warming Debate

(h/t Heather)

You knew we had to post this...

On a related note, the most news generated by this debate was unfortunately not the substance of the issues as raised by Kucinich and Edwards, but that Hillary Clinton was heckled. Turns out that it was a Code Pink member.

Hey media? Do you think maybe focusing more on the ideas brought forth, like Kucinich here, and less on the prom queen popularity aspect might actually be helpful? It's only the health and future of the planet we're talking about...

Bill Moyers on What's Wrong With Our Media

(guest blogged by Bill W.)

Four years ago, without public input, the FCC rolled back 30 yr old rules that limited a single company's ability to be able to dominate local TV, newspaper and radio media markets. Thankfully, the rules changes triggered a massive public response and through legislation and lawsuit, they were defeated. Now FCC chair Kevin Martin is attempting to do it again by trying to push through a similar set of changes allowing further media consolidation as soon as December 18. This time, we needn't wait until we have been sandbagged. You can help by contacting Congress and the FCC now to stop Kevin Martin before he gets away with slipping this one by us.

Bill Moyers then goes one further and focuses on one glaring example of how our media is already failing us today:

BILL MOYERS: It's important who owns the press, as we've just seen and heard...but it's also important who decides what is news.

Why wasn't it news last weekend when more than 100,000 people turned out in 11 cities across the country to protest the occupation of Iraq ... but if you blinked while watching the national news, you wouldn't have known it was a story? ...(transcript)

It's no wonder why groups like Code Pink must go to such lengths to make sure the overwhelming voice of public opinion against the war isn't ignored entirely. Thankfully we at least still have Bill Moyers to help make sure that doesn't happen. As always you can watch the full episodes on the PBS website.

The message from Bush to the Democratically controlled Congress was simple: Approve Mukasey or we will all die, and it will be all your fault.

Bush: "The job of Attorney General is essential to the security of America" ... "Some in Washington should spend more time responding to the warnings of terrorists like Osama bin Laden, and the requests of our commanders on the ground, and less time responding to the demands of MoveOn.org bloggers and Code Pink protesters."

(Nicole: Wow. How much more irrelevant can the President get when he starts adopting Fox News talking points instead of vice versa? You know the old Gandhi saying, "first, they ignore you..." Well, fellow bloggers, if the Spoiled Brat in Chief is any guide, we're close to winning.)

Pop Quiz!

Who said this?

"I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority."

Or this?

"I don't know where he is. I'll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him."

Or this?

"Deep in my heart I know the man's on the run, if he's alive at all...I just don't spend much time on it, really, to be honest with you."

And who disbanded the CIA unit dedicated to finding bin Laden?

Just checking.

UPDATE: The President has thrown a tantrum drawn a line in the sand: No attorney general if not Mukasey (h/t FSA in the comments).

Remembering David Halberstam

An important request for C&Lers: I have heard from a Code Pink member who went to Harry Reid's office to thank him for telling the truth about Iraq. His office told her that of the calls they've received, few have been positive. We're quick to condemn those who are trying to lie to us about what's going on. Let's let Harry Reid know we appreciate him speaking the truth. You can email his office or call (202) 224-3542.
