David Corn writes:Why Bush Has To Fire Rove

Catch finds the White House website not hosting today's video. Big surprise there.

Yeah, we were right about the U.S. Attorney firings. (See above video, which is ten months old.) Even Karl Rove and Harriet Miers admit it now:

The dismissal of New Mexico U.S. Attorney David C. Iglesias in December 2006 followed extensive communication among lawyers and political aides in the White House who hashed over complaints about his work on public corruption cases against Democrats, according to newly released e-mails and transcripts of closed-door House testimony by former Bush counsel Harriet Miers and political chief Karl Rove.

A campaign to oust Iglesias intensified after state party officials and GOP members of the congressional delegation apparently concluded he was not pursuing the cases against Democrats in a way that would help then- Rep. Heather Wilson in a tight releection race, according to interviews and Bush White House e-mails released Tuesday by congressional investigators. The documents place the genesis of Iglesias's dismissal earlier than previously known.

The disclosures mark the end of a two-and-a-half year investigation by the House Judiciary Committee, which sued to gain access to Bush White House documents in a dispute that struck at the heart of a president's executive power. House members have reserved the right to hold a public hearing at which Rove, Miers, and other aides could appear this fall.

House Judiciary Chairman John M. Conyers Jr. (D-Mich.) Tuesday characterized the role of Bush White House figures in the firing episode as improper and inappropriate.

Tuesday's Children

60 Minutes aired a segment Sunday night on the children of 9/11 victims five years later. It's hard not to be affected by the very real grief still so raw and close to the surface of their eyes.

The kids [..] told 60 Minutes some of the worst memories don't fade because the media won't let them. [CBS Reporter Scott] Pelley got an earful about showing those pictures of 9/11 over and over again.

"Even when you're just sitting down like eating dinner and watching TV, you'll just have a nice conversation and then all the sudden you'll see like pictures of 9/11. You can't escape it. It's just like everywhere you go its always like you're always reminded of it somehow even in the littlest thing," explains Amy Gardner.

"They're showing my dad's death and everyone else here. It's just really offensive. Every time I see it, it brings up so much and it actually really hurts," says Erik Abrahamson.

While the events of 9/11 are indisbutably a tragedy for all of us, it dwells every day in the lives of these kids. They talk openly of how their memories of their lost parents are fading with time and how they've learned to move forward with the assistance of Tuesday's Children, a support group that encourages them to heal by helping others.

You can watch the CBS video clip and read the transcripts here.

Do you think that ABC/Disney and David Cunningham understand that it is these young people that they are exploiting as they seek to damage the legacy of the Clinton administration by making up facts and events?

ABC docudrama on 9/11 blasts Clinton, praises Bush

This is ridiculous.

On September 10 and 11, ABC will air a “docudrama” called “The Path to 9/11.” It was written by Cyrus Nowrasteh, who describes himself as “more of a libertarian than a strict conservative,” and is giving interviews to hard-right sites like FrontPageMag to promote the film. [...]

The director of the film, David Cunningham, is already backtracking about its accuracy, saying “this is not a documentary.” OK, fair enough. But the movie is being billed as “based on The 9/11 Commission Report.”

Limbaugh loves it, which is probably a big hint about what kind of "docudrama" viewers can expect. TP has all the details.

The Wrong Side of Roger

Wolcott:

"Another indignity has been visited upon David Corn for his ill-advised (i.e., depraved) decision to sully his name and shame his ancestors by letting himself get snookered into joining Pajamas Media, your one-stop shop for mediocrity. It is perhaps the worst indignity he has so far received--finding himself on the receiving end of Roger L. Simon's gummy condescension...read on"

Raw Story has Harry Reid's statement.

The Constitution gives the President and the Senate shared responsibility to fill this vacancy, because the President may only act with the Advice and Consent of the Senate. At this critical moment, the President must recognize the Senate's constitutional role. He should give life to the Advice and Consent Clause by engaging in meaningful consultation with Senators of both political parties.

Andrew Sullivan is a wee-bit optimistic:"This is a critical moment for the president, a moment when he can reach back to a political center he has recently eschewed during a war in which a bitter and divisive internal fight should be avoided, if at all possible. I'm hoping for a reasonable and not overly ideological choice. What I'm expecting is another matter."

Liberal Oasis has a plan: When we fight Bush nominees this summer, we must do our best to avoid getting bogged down in technical, procedural matters.

John Cole says: This is going to be one ugly confirmation battle.

New Explosive Rove Revelation To Come?

via David Corn:

"I don't usually log on Saturday evenings. But I've received information too good not to share immediately. It was only yesterday that I was bemoaning the probability that--after a week of apparent Rove-related revelations--it might be a while before any more news emerged about the Plame/CIA leak. Yet tonight I received this as-solid-as-it-gets tip: on Sunday Newsweek is posting a story that nails Rove...read on"
