Iraq'd - Another Deadliest Quarter For U.S. Casualties

Iraq’d Deadliest Quarter AP Via Yahoo:

A huge bomb explosion followed by a hail of gunfire and grenades killed five U.S. soldiers, the military said Friday. The attack came as the Pentagon tallied up the deadliest three-month period for Americans since the war began.

Seven soldiers were wounded in the attack Thursday in the Rasheed district, a mixed Sunni-Shiite area of southern Baghdad where U.S.-led forces recently stepped up pressure on extremists. The commander of U.S. forces in Baghdad suggested the ambush could be part of an escalating backlash by Sunni insurgents.

Those deaths brought to 99 the number of U.S. troops killed this month, according to an Associated Press count. The toll for the past three months — 329 — made it the deadliest quarter for U.S. troops in Iraq since the March 2003 invasion. That surpasses the 316 soldiers killed during November 2004 to January 2005. Read more...

4hero: The Awakening.

Listen to Ursula Rucker's lyrics...

Impeachment off the table = Let the bodies hit the floor.

Wow, 329 american troops killed here, 329 killed there, first thing you know we'll be engaged in a real war, instead of a 'slam dunk' demonstration of 'shock and awe', a 'piece of cake' walk to accept 'flowers in our gun barrels', while graciously accepting the 'thanks of the Iraqis' for 'putting them on the path to a free and peaceful democracy that will be the envy of the middle east'.

What the US really needs is a liberator who will invade D.C. and put the US on the path to a free and peaceful democracy, following the rule of law and the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

For a party that's for 'The Right of Life', and against 'Abortion', these F****** republican bushits have sure murdered a lot of folks and created an abortion of an administration.

You know, I just finished reading some retired General who claims that things are very peaceful in most parts of Iraq and the Liberal Media are simply not telling us the good news.

I think the good news is that he's retired. How long are people going to pretend things are getting better?

This quote by Dennis Kucinich should be at the top of this blog:

The inability to admit a mistake and assume responsibility is not just a morally bankrupt way to walk through life; it is a dangerous and deadly way to lead a nation. When I am president, I will open up all secret files relating to the Iraq war and expose all officials who lied to the public in promoting it. (That’s right, Dick, your files too.) My Justice Department will prosecute everyone who lied under oath or ripped off the American taxpayer by exploiting the Iraq reconstruction effort. And I will pardon to no one.

Go Dennis

SURGE Damit!!!

Bush supporters and contributors who own funeral related businesses expect their payback-share of the pie also didn't you know?

The increase in soldier deaths "is to be expected" and proves the "surge" is working as the escalation of our presence in Iraq would logically lead to (and to more profits for Haliburton and the rest of the corporate military machine).

I'll never forget hearing guys at the gym back in '98 or '99 tell me how much they hated Clinton over those 16 guys he "needlessly killed" in the Black Hawk Down incident in Somalia. Wonder what those guys are thinking now...

Good Bye C&L

[Uh ok. Bye-Sitemonitor]

that's a helluva surge.

hey draftsman, it's your daddy w, who put those boys in the coffins. don't try and pawn it off on anybody else. W wanted this war so bad he could taste it and he did a lot work, hard work to bring it to fruition. Don't pass the credit falsely to anyone else, now that it's clear to anyone other than his frootbat base that it's turned out to be about as successful as a monkey fucking a football.

we all told you it was wrong and would turn out badly back in 2003. Don't try to wriggle out of your poor decision now.

More violence means the enemy is getting desperate, so we are winning.

Less violence means we are winning.

Fucking asshole logic.

There is one way to stop the insurgency in Iraq. In case you missed it, there was one paragraph that mentioned what the real issue is, oil. They cannot come up with a solution on how to share the oil proceeds.

But progress toward agreements to share oil wealth, provide a greater political role to the Sunni minority and shore up local governments has been slow because of deep suspicions after four years of bloodshed.

The significance of this one paragraph, says it all. If the oil companies were to offer a fair price for the oil, I think that the insurgency may subside. Under the current proposals the oil companies steal the largest share of the oil profits and the government gets a little compensation. Let the Iraqis have their oil, put the people back to work and it is possible they could have peace and stability.

If you ever see those guys again just remind them that it was Bush 41 who sent them to Somalia right at the end of his term.

When you see the coffins of these brave Americans who have been killed in Iraq it makes you so damn mad you can thrown something at the TV. When you see all these young lives wasted. AND to know the cause of it is a coward who hid behind his Daddy so he wouldn't have to serve in Viet Nam. And his coward buddy who got deferment after deferment so he wouldn't have to serve in Viet Nam.

Then you see on TV the funeral for a Minnesota veteran who braved the fire of the Japanese to raise our flag on Iwo Jima and you cringe. You think coward bush and coward cheney these are the type of people the republicans praise. WHAT IN THE S.O.B. HELL HAS THIS COUNTRY COME TO, That real heroes like John Kerry are slashed and slurred while two absolute abject cowards like bush and cheney get to have more of our brave military killed for THEIR access to oil.

And yet the Dems agreed to finance (I'd say "co-sponsor") this "Summer of Death". This was some sort of "strategic" move, but I'd say it was a terrible, terrible mistake.

And yet, we must support the Dems because the alternate is the pro-torture, pro-secret prisons, pro-suspension of unalienable rights, and pro-carnage Republican Party.

They're thinking:
"It's all Clinton's fault"

Alright Dems, it looks like you're going to have all the ammunition you're gonna need to begin a troop withdrawal in September. I hope you have the guts to actually do something this time around!

The defense spending bill is up in July.

This is the best chance to end the occupation but w will veto it.

A Dem President is a sure way to end it.

Your savings is being hijacked to feed the greed of the corporates.

Why does Fox News have wall to wall coverage of the London car comb story, when there weren't any bombs found in the other %99.9 of the UK? That Fox News is so negative.

We all knew "the surge" was a whole lot of BS. The Congress knew it too. Still as much as we need to blame Bush for this - the dems did give Bush a free pass with the Iraq bill. Both parties have blood on their hands.

All for the love of the profits of the military industrial complex, oil companies, and the ego of a drunken AWOL coward and his five deferment cowardly side kick...what a disgusting situation the morons who supported the thugs in this crime family have given us.

It is time to rise up America...this is not what we are about.

I'ts about. . . about. . . . zzzzzzzzzzz

Thank you, Logan, for sharing that horrible picture. We need some reality with regard to this war. I do not understand why photos like that are not shown on the nightly news all across America.

What ever happened to Hillary's idea of de-authorizing this war? Did she just give up because she knew the votes weren't there? Doesn't matter. The American people are way ahead of Congress on this, and they would be voting with her.

Love your new comment format, btw.

Loo Hoo. @ 28:

TThe American people are way ahead of Congress on this, and they would be voting with her.

Unfortunately we got the Government we're stuck with. One group pushing one flavor of corporate agenda versus an out of power group pushing another.

Could someone please explain what "Iraq'd" means? Did I miss out on this word entering the language? Is it a verb? Can I say "Hey man, I just Iraq'd in your bathroom"?

Absolutely True and these bastards should be impeached and thrown out of office and indicted for treason.

My nephew got back from Iraq, with a purple heart.Sadly the guy next to him didn't make it.An RPG ripped into the side of the truck he was riding shotgun in.He got peppered with shrapnel, but he's ok .Lots of little scars all over him. He's 19...I look at all those coffins, and consider him and us lucky. He'll be going back in Feb...he says it's a 7 month tour with a "possible extension"of 2 to 4 months.....I hope it's over before then.

I don't know the context of Iraq'd, but I would guess it means getting bombed into the hell Iraq has become.

dumya says casualties are ok. As long as they are not in his family. I got an e-mail yesterday from a sergeant now serving in the middle of Baghdad. He saw FOUR of his best friends murdered in the streets there last week. It is much worse there than we think and not going to get any better.
His letter will be diaried on DailyKos Thursday. Please drop by. It will break your hearts.

shouldn't we be focusing less on a numbers tally and more on the project at hand?

Hows the view from the cheap seats asshole.............FY

The Democrats will not do anything to stop this. We need someone like Ralph Nader.

It's nice to see the democratization of foreign countries is working well. Had another country invaded us and held a gun to our collective head demanding we change our government and way of life, we'd probably welcome them with open arms, flowers and apple pies. Or will we? Sickening hypocrisy on the side of these neo con thugs.

[Sorry. This is not the 'Ralph Nader for President!!!' thread. Please behave yourself-Sitemonitor]

Sitemonitor, OK, I'm sorry, it's just that the current Democrats are not going to do anything to correct this situation.

[Deleted. Please do not feed the Nader trolls, it will only hijack the thread]

[Deleted. For the second time, the topic of the thread is not Nader for Prez]

revulver just hits and runs.....not a leg to stand on....how people can still try to defend this fubar war is beyond me.........oh yeah.......don't forget Saddam was in on 9-11......rite

[Deleted. Oddly enough, Nader is not the topic of this thread]

This is the deadliest year of the war.

At least 60 Americans have been killed in Iraq every month since August 2006. (Every month since April 2006 except for July 2006, when 43 Americans were killed.)

At least 70 Americans have been killed in Iraq every month since September 2006.

At least 80 Americans have been killed in Iraq every month since December 2006.

At least 100 Americans have been killed in Iraq every month since April 2007.

death throes.. death throes..

The commander of U.S. forces in Baghdad suggested the ambush could be part of an escalating backlash by Sunni insurgents.

I'm no military expert, but I would think you'd want to avoid triggering one of those.

Have you heard the economics of wars? The end justifies the means

They create war for many purposes. For one, global economy, oil, saves retirement funds if young generation are on harm's way, environment, cutting down the world population, disease, etc.

In my view, this is pure evil and not acting in faith or peaceful means.

The AMERICAN VOTERS want to bring our troops home.

Bush wants to protect his LEGACY.

The Democrats want to prove that they can govern responsibly.

The Military wants to prove they can follow orders.

The Republicans want to prove that they are not irrelevant.

The Iraqi leaders want the MONEY to keep coming.

The Iraqi civilians want the killing to stop.

The Insurgents want the Americans to GO HOME.

... and Al Qaeda is perfectly happy with the way things are.

SO... who is Bush working for anyway?

This is why Bush, McCain and Lieberman are soooo popular.

it's going to get worse before it gets better.

The commander of U.S. forces in Baghdad suggested the ambush could be part of an escalating backlash by Sunni insurgents.

did they use the arms that the u.s. gave them to attack al qaeda?

“Everyone who got shot was shooting at U.S. troops at the time,” he said. “It was an intense firefight.” But Iraqi officials said the death toll was much lower, around eight, and some said that civilians were killed, including a man, his wife and their daughter, who had left their home to check on the disturbance".

That was from a report in today's NY Times. Does that sound right? "..left their home to check on the disturbance"?

It is immoral for the United States government AND the U.S. citizens to stand back and allow American soldiers to needlessly die until September when we intend to get our own political house in order. This policy was doomed from the start and hasn't showed one inch of progress, yet we're going to play this political game of "We have to wait for the General's report in September to do anything." How many hundreds of troops will die before Petraeus gives his report? What will we be forced to conclude in September that we cannot conclude now? The media allows itself to be exploited by Ann Coulter so she can publicly say that we should carpet bomb millions of Arab citizens with the insane idea that we will break the will of the insurgency/terrorists, while the American people distract ourselves from everything but the reality that who allow innocent men, women and children to die because we're too lazy and complacent to put pressure on our political leaders to find a resolution NOW. They're going to come home for a week and eat hot dogs, hamburgers, and watch firework shows while we shake our fist at the job they're doing. Well I'm sorry, we should be kicking their a$$es back to Washington and make them stay there until they actually accomplish something. I don't care if the Democrats don't have enough votes to get things through. I want them to send the same bills up to the White House OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER again. Bush and the Republicans have to be reminded that the real issues facing this nation will need real results, and those results MUST come sooner than later.

Happy Fourth of July? Freedom? I say USE IT or LOSE iT!

an average of 100 a month will bring the death toll to around 5000, before Bush leaves office...

That's not counting our soldiers who have limbs etc blown off, this war is an immoral one and the people who started it should be thrown in jail.

dirk gently @ 54:

The commander of U.S. forces in Baghdad suggested the ambush could be part of an escalating backlash by Sunni insurgents.

did they use the arms that the u.s. gave them to attack al qaeda?

neo-clown response: "...nah, they got their arms from IRAN!!! Then they got their legs from Syria!!..."

All this proves is the surge is working. And that this whole mess is really Clinton's fault. Right?

Yell all you want folks. How many of you voted Republican 1st or 2nd term or didn't vote at all. Republicans say low turn out is good for them. Didn't we learn anything from Vietnam?

I voted straight Democrat ticket for the last 8 years because I saw this coming. No wonder scam artists thrive in this country, we have a lot of dumb or lazy people. I am getting tired of all of these late jumpers on the wagon. Wake the hell up in time for once.

If you are a Republican or support them you are scum. Killing our kids for philosophical reasons. Christianity is better then Mohammedanism?

I was coming out of a store today and a lady offered me a flier on a local church and it was all I could do to not make a rude remark about religion. Getting real sick of anyone who says they believe in religion of any kind. Be human before you be religious. Human life is far more valuable then what ever (the only value I have found in this word) God Dammed philosophy.

It looks like the level of intelligence coming from the trolls is getting lower and lower....but I suppose thats to be expected....after all they did vote for Booosh......TWICE...stupid is as stupid does

20 flag draped coffins in that photo..................

chimpy supplied the Sunnis with weapons. GMAFB!

Fil talks out both sides of his neck. First the "insurgent" are using different tactics causing the high death rate. Next the asshole says it's a part of Badgdad that ran "wild."

chimpy is sending our finest a one way ticket.

Mark: I totally agree. The lowest common denominator in the USA is extremely low. Like brain-dead. (Sure there are lots of bright people, but crowds have a life of their own.)
As I'm not American I'm neither Dem. or Rep., but I have been against Bush since day 1. And Bush Sr., and Reagan. And I am against the conservatives in Canada (my country). I don't hate conservatives, just think they only care about making money, and life is much more than that. (I know a lot of Americans "secretly" voted for Bush because they had had the fear whipped up in them.)

I can't even start on this administration because I never stop. Evil Inc. "Crush, kill, destroy." (from "Lost in Space", the TV show, remember? Man I loved that show as a kid!!!!)

Mister Anderson is spot on in his commentary. REALLY NOW! My dear American brothers and sisters, what a shitty state we are in. And I keep wonderin' when in the hell WE THE PEOPLE are going to DO OUR DUTY and demand that the tyrrannical and insane government that has hijacked our country be held fully accountable for their crimes against The People and The Constitution lest we serve the Tree of Liberty with THEIR BLOOD.

We need a million American patriots to march on Washington. Have you had enough yet?

Kharma's gonna be a bitch

I agree with Mark and Mudshark.

Left Behind, it's not negative reporting. It's the truth. Something the neo-cons have no concept of. You all live in a dreamworld. Get real.

I think it's time to step up the blame here. Those stupid Americans who voted for Bush are partly responsible for this chaos. When I mean stupid I really mean stupid. I was a Republican and changed my party affiliation before the 2000 election because I could tell Bush would be a disaster as President.

By voting for this clown they emboldened him to start a war that doesn't have any end in sight. It's easy to start a war but difficult to stop one. But they don't care. All they care about is their allegence to their party. The blood of this war is not only on Bush's hands but those who support this murderer.

You stupid Republicans have created the chaos in Iraq. There wasn't an al-Qaida presence before the war in Iraq but now the country is a breeding ground for terrorism. It's whack-a-mole over there now. You fucked up the country. Anyone with half a brain could of told you all this wouldn't work and there were millions of us who protested before the war even started. And it wasn't for the sake of protesting. It was because the war didn't make damn sense. Listen, before the war, Iraq was under a southern and northern no fly zone. The country was starved by sanctions and under the threat of constant arms inspections. Where the hell was the damn danger? A pre-emptive strike against a country that was already under the microscope.

mudshark @ 68:

[refers to deleted propaganda]

O K .......I'll be nice.........well I'll try too

These deaths and thousands more can be laid directly to the egotism of sociopath George W. Bush, Richard Cheney, and their crew of thugs. They should be arrested for Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Treason against the US Constitution, and tried for war crimes. If Saddam Hussein deserved hanging, so do these criminals. It is past time for the US Military to grow some cojones and act, since nobody else apparently has the guts.

this is soooooooooooooo sad
get off your fat ass and do something

i should add this is what one should expect when dick, bush, and colon get in power and design a doomed war with people who do not understand their culture, language, and values

Bad enough these poor people die for a lie but the lie only creates more wealth for other people.

The US is looking like Rome more and more.
