I live near LAX and what Atrios says is true. They still limit who comes in at times and now they are much tougher on people when they pull up to the curb to unload their bags. I can understand it though..He links to this BBC article.
They have also described seeing two Asian men, one of whom was on fire, who had been in the car.

I wish the media would just tell us what they know for sure and then shut the hell up until more facts surface. Way to much speculation without anything to back it up. They turn an event into a all day coverage but there is nothing new. Drives me crazy.
Guess this sort of blows away that BRILLIANT theory: "we" have to fight "them" over "there" so "we" don't have to fight "them" here. Does this mean England just has not fought "them" hard enough? Most Archie Bunker Republicans think England is a "fag" country anyway.

For what it's worth, they are now saying there was a third person in the car today and that person's body is still in the car. If this is true it would explain why the one guy was trying to open the back door of the cherokee. He may have been trying to help that third person out of the burning car. My question is when was the last time three people were in a suicide bomber car? Seems senseless to me.
Today when they said the one guy was trying to open the back door of the car before the cops stopped him, I told my husband wouldn't this be awful if it really was just a horrible auto accident and the man was trying to get his child or someone else out of the car. I just can't picture one suicide bomber trying to save the life of another. Seems that would defeat their purpose in so many ways.
Seems no matter where something happens or how horrible it is, the news readers always bring the story back to this country and how it willl effect us. It's all about us no matter how much it's all about someone one else. Self centered? Yup!

The Brits have been on high alert for 2 years. That's why they stopped yesterday's attack before it happened.

As I'm in the UK at the moment myself, I don't know how it's being presented in the States, other than trusting that posters like PO'd Patty are accurately describing the endless speculation and fearmongering in the American media. The UK government did not DO anything to prevent this attack, or the two duds of yesterday, because they didn't KNOW anything about it. This is not the work of al Qaeda, or professional terrorists; this is a group of not very capable wannabees. No better and no worse than ordinary criminals.
But when I fly out of Heathrow in a fortnight's time, I'm sure I'll be subjected to even more 'security' related frustration and pettiness - must remember to put the nail file in with the check-through, forget about packing shampoo; that'll just get stomped on and leak all over the bag. Oh, and take the squashy carry-on bag rather than my nice wheeled set, because a squashy bag is more likely to fit into whatever oddball sized measuring box that my nice wheeled set was just a shade too wide to fit into last time I flew to Paris... thus had to be checked through... where it was lost for five days, with all my medication inside.
I can remember when flying was a pleasure - I hate it now. With a passion. And I don't blame a group of inept, misguided fanatics trying to build car bombs following instructions in 'Car Bombs For Idiots' guidebooks, either. Yer kiddin', right? Air travel, to me, is more convenient than other modes of long-distance travel but it's hardly a pleasure, pre- or post-9/11.
The Fixed News Channel has been airing wall-to-wall coverage of the bombing. This is the same type of attack that occurs each day, more than once, in Iraq. So, according to Bill O'Reilly's theory (CNN and other news networks keep reporting on bombings in Iraq because they want the U.S. to be defeated there), I guess Faux News wants U.S. ally the U.K. to be defeated in the "war on terror."

But to answer, I believe that where the current events are concerned we're a secondary target to the US in terms of jihadists attacks PLUS the Glasgow attack looks unrelated to London, so they could have something to do with racial tensions. Unclear at the moment.
So it's a bit 50/50. Sorry I can't answer your question better.
In terms of Glasgow, if it was related to London they'd have done a lot worse than drive a car into a wall. That's what we all think anyway.
I was there last week, getting a cab after flying home. I grew up under a mile away and i currently live under the flight path - the lack of planes flying overhead is bizarre.
We're being used mates. Way back when, when IRA bombings were commonplace...................... well obviously they merited news, but I seem to remember that life went on pretty much as normal without the paranoid hysteria. This War on Terra is sinister all right, but I'm more worried the way it's being managed on "our" end than the sad fruitcakes who blow up your average Mercedes Benz..................... or drive a Land Rover into a bollard.

Two thoughts:
1. When the IRA were doin' there bombings, the UK didn't have a video feed from every street corner connected to Scotland Yard.
2. Real explosives are expensive. The IRA could raise a whole helluvalot more cash in the Republic, in New York, in Boston and Chicago than two diy'ers could hope to raise back home in Lahore and Islamabad.

This is an airport I`ve used a few times, and I've been to the nightclub that was the target in London. And while it`s hard to get as excited by this as a neocon on the other side of the world, it`s only a matter of time before either losers like this get lucky and kill someone, or competent terrorists step in.

I get several British TV stations and so far they have had about 10% of the coverage and 1% of the conjecture that US stations are showing. America essentially advertises to terrorists that we love to be terrorized and the Brits treat them like an unruly child, not worthy of their attention.
Imagine, the US cable news stations have spent about 12 hours now showing the same image of a car fire. Where is Paris Hilton when you need her?

UK's used to stuff like this, back in '84 the IRA tried to blow up the government, leaving ministers and others dead, wounded and crippled. The news reporting is very different to the US, where Fox seem to treat it like a film trailer.
