YouTube: After being denied entry to a Kirk event despite buying a ticket,Iraq War veteran, Josh Lansdale, approaches the Congressman and asks him to explain his position on the Iraq War. From the video, it looks like this Iraq Vet is not going to get an answer anytime soon.
Odd that Kirk wouldn't want to speak to an OIF veteran, especially considering he claimed to be one.

Despite U.S. Assertions, Terrorists Thriving in Iraq, Senior Military Official Says

While the military has maintained that al Qaeda is on the run in Iraq, by any number of measures the terror group and its affiliates are as strong as ever, and June was the most violent month since the start of the war, a senior U.S. military official told ABC News.

"Despite our successes in taking out leaders and infrastructure," said the official, "al Qaeda's operational capability appears to be undiminished."
Al Qaeda operations are marked by the use of suicide bombers, and the latest intelligence assessment shows that suicide attacks were near an all-time high in May and June. According to the report, al Qaeda in Iraq is responsible for 15 percent of the attacks in the country, often the most deadly. Sunni insurgents are blamed for 70 percent of attacks, and Shiite militias 15 percent. Shiite attacks, however, have sharply increased and are now probably higher than 15 percent.
ABC News has learned the most recent military intelligence assessment of Iraq also shows that the overall level of violence in the country -- measured as the number of "violent incidents" -- hit its highest level in June since the war began.
According to the assessment, an average of 178 attacks a day were carried out in June. By comparison, there were only 94 attacks a day in March 2006, the month after the attack on the Golden Dome mosque in Samarra touched off a wave of sectarian violence.

It is an axiom of American political life that the actions of the US military are beyond criticism. Democrats and Republicans praise the men and women in uniform at every turn. Apart from the odd bad apple at Abu Ghraib, the US military in Iraq is deemed to be doing a heroic job under trying circumstances.
That perception will take a severe knock today with the publication in The Nation magazine of a series of in-depth interviews with 50 combat veterans of the Iraq war from across the US. In the interviews, veterans have described acts of violence in which US forces have abused or killed Iraqi men, women and children with impunity.
The report steers clear of widely reported atrocities, such as the massacre in Haditha in 2005, but instead unearths a pattern of human rights abuses. "It's not individual atrocity," Specialist Garett Reppenhagen, a sniper from the 263rd Armour Battalion, said. "It's the fact that the entire war is an atrocity."
A number of the troops have returned home bearing mental and physical scars from fighting a war in an environment in which the insurgents are supported by the population. Many of those interviewed have come to oppose the US military presence in Iraq, joining the groundswell of public opinion across the US that views the war as futile.

Well.....be it far from me to defend a republican....however....Kirk is currently in the Navy reserve and has been since 1992.
It REALLY pisses me off when someone in the military uses their uniform to make a partisan political stand. You see this on mil-blog sites all the time and I think it is disgustingly wrong.
However, having said that, what is Kirk's voting record? (I mean this is his 3rd term and he is only on the catch all appropriations committee, so there is not much power brokering abbility in Kirk)
Hats off to Josh Lansdale. Those are tough to do and that is the only way, we as a net roots group can get the message out to the masses.

To everyone, I'm serious. If you install Tor, an onion router, NO site that has banned your IP address will EVER be able to ban your IP address again. They wont be able to identify you IP address. The only way to block you would be to block ALL addresses.
It will slow down your browsing a bit (sometimes more, sometimes less) because you will be routing your traffic through 3 other random computers around the world (with your IP scrubbed)... Thanks. for Firefox to go with it so you can activate and deactivate it as well - because you don't always need it and in using it properly though not necessarily you need to lose a few niceties (javascript, java, and a few others) while you are using it to ENSURE anonymity and make absolutely certain that they pick up any information about your TRUE IP address.

Kind of a symbolic moment, dontcha think? A Republican who voted for the war to close his door to the very person he sent in harm's way! A Republican who doesn't want to answer to the people! I'm one of his constituents, and I've been badgering him for the past few months, trying to get him to commit to his plans on Iraq votes.
In response, all he's sent me back are "I was against the surge" responses that amount to nothing more than "fuck you very much" form letters, in that every vote so far has been in lockstep with Bush to support the war.
I've called him on this - politely - but of course, no response.
He's a two-faced chickenshit. He knows how many Dems are in his district, so he very carefully blows smoke in our faces trying to obscure the truth from us. And for some reason, the local press continues to play him as a friend of the Left. His votes - on almost every issue - prove him to be otherwise. I've given up on him.
There is nothing unusual about Kirk's behavior in this video. This is typical for Kirk for the years in which I have been chronicling his voting record and attitude toward constituents on my blog. On October 9, 2002, Kirk stood before the House helping the Bush administration spread lies about WMD in Iraq to Congress. Kirk used his so-called insider status as a Naval Intelligence Officer and his special knowledge of WMD in Iraq that he absolutely knew were there to nonplus Democratic contenders for his seat in 2002 and 2004 in debates. He could not do it with Dan Seals in 2006 because the evidence was already turning against him, but still maintains even now that his special status working for the Pentagon gives him additional information that he cannot tell us, but proves that the surge is successful despite all other evidence to the contrary. Letters of concern over Iraq from constituents are replied to with great paternalistic distain, questions are screened at the few town hall meeting he has had which are carefully located in only areas of his base and topics are narrowly limited to his claimed expertise at keeping Israel at war and all request meetings with anyone other than his choir are refused. Mark Kirk needs to be retired from the House and Dan Seals is the candidate to help us do that.
THAT'S how these gop slime really feel about America's troops! Good for photo ops and to be used as mercenaries in illegal armed robberies. But never ever to be respected as concerned citizens. I live in the district of Illinois that Tammy Duckworth was trying to represent. Unfortunately it is a very Republican area but I voted for Tammy and she didn't loose by much. Instead we got a Bush wannabe in her stead. Now Tammy says she isn't going to run again next year as her husband has been deployed to Iraq and she is currently in charge of Veteran affairs. I hope she will run again eventually. We need people like her in Congress.
