Blue Gal Meets Bubba

Have I told you how much I love Blue Gal? Here's her video supporting HR 676

I'd love to see some more videos like this from other progressives and use the success of C&L to let our issues and framing go viral.

Freedom first!

Great video. It is gratifying to see a progressive site finally speaking in laudatory terms of the most progressive candidate, either Democratic or Republican, who is running for president and the only one who, as the video correctly points out, is calling for universal single-payer health care coverage for every citizen in this country. Kucinich in 08.

Speaking of HR 676, Michael Moore is on Hardball right now!

Thanks so much Nicole for posting this, and thanks to Blue Gal and Davis Fleetwood for not only being bloggers, but activists. It's important that we cross that line from dissent to resistance. Without the support of larger blogs like C&L, our work would not have the audience it does. If anyone else would like to get involved with the group, just visit The35Percenters.com to find out more. Expect another video covering impeachment within a week or two. Thanks again. Peace.

Have I told you how much I love you, Nicole?

All I did was record what Manila wrote for the video. He and Davis Fleetwood did all the work on this. They're so awesome I can't even type.

We did have one creative difference. I wanted Bubba to get the damn onion rings, making the point that my boyfriend can eat whatever the hell he wants. Cooler heads prevailed upon me to stick with the "healthcare" motif.

I want to make a couple further clarifications for C&L readers as I did at my own blog:

1. I don't smoke pot, so I don't get the munchies, and if I did I wouldn't eat a Grand Slam at Denny's.

2. I have three small children. I don't own any dresses that I would wear in a vicinity where Bill Clinton, or anyone else, could "spill" on them.

3. Whether I felt like dessert or not, I would never make anything easy on Bill Clinton's wallet.

4. Celine Dion is cr*p. But you knew that.

Er, 676... we need an edit button.

[I have one. It's fixed-Sitemonitor]

I spit out Diet Coke on a blue dress.

I am mad for Davis Fleetwood! I can't live without him! He dances like a god.

In other news http://www.huffingtonpost.com/huff-wires/20070723/veterans-care-lawsuit/ .

Guess the troops aren't feeling "supported".

Heckuva job, Blue Gal. Keep it up.

The video is funny, and I dig most of your work, Blue Gal (everything I've seen). I think we need to face the facts here: Kucinich has a snowball's chance in hell of getting the nomination. I voted in the primary for Kucinich in 2004, but we need a better system. How do we get progressive policy into the Democratic platform and make Democratic candidates (for all offices - I'm looking at you, Lieberman) support it?

I know it sounds like I'm advocating the same kind of lock-step, authoritarian regime we see from the party of Tom Delay, but I don't see it that way. Their controversial policies are always exclusionary; whereas, the gay rights, women's rights, civil rights, etc. policies of progressives are generally inclusive. Further, somehow the Democrats have been convinced that legislation that is supported by 80% of the population (such as stronger environmental protections and funding for education) is going to alienate swing voters and make it harder to win elections. The Democrats need some spine - maybe some kind of funding support within the party for supporting progressive policy?

Rumor has it this is the real BlueGal.

Offtopic, but -- it's been exactly a year since blogger extraordinaire Sans-Culotte went silent. Commemorative posts are up at Les Enragés.org and Moxie Grrrl.com. If you remember this great blogger and even greater commenter, drop by and share your story.

He was also nominated for a Koufax award for Best Commenter, but I haven't figured out how to cast a vote there.

Also, FYI the Real Live Blue Gal is a lot prettier than the cartoon. :)

I got that BG debate video link from the comments of this thread:

Sans Culotte ~ Missing For One Year.

Hi SadBT, jinx!

Cute vid... All I can say is... At this point.. I'm about ready to throw my support behind the little dweeb former boy mayor from Cleveland... And I say that with all due respect really... I like what I've heard out of him, I like what he seems to be standing for... Sadly I also agree with the above poster that he has about maybe a snowballs chance in hell... But he's about the only at this point talking the talk and walkin the walk we all wish some of the other higher profile pretty boys would champion...
He's a genuine populist in the best truist sense of that word..

I really like his guts and seeming integrity if not his chances...
And the fact that he's an Ohio boy don't hurt none with me either.... I really wish he or someone with his outlook could be president... But I don't really see it happening in this sickass society worrying too much about dress stains thats what? Ten, twelve years old now, and haircuts over real issues...That's a paradigm that is truly sad as commentary on us, as well as the future of the nation...

Still for me... (where's the Feingolds and the Clarks or even the Gores these days...) I know they're all trying in their own ways to work these problems out and make a stand, but none want to step up to the plate, take on Chimpy and lead from the oval office... Sooo, Kucinich is starting to sound better and better to me all the time... Obama??? I just don't know what I think of him at this point.... May sound like I'm aiming for the meaningless protest vote, but hell, if some of the conspiracies that do get airtime hold even a hint of water... What and who I think I might want to vote for in the here and now, might not amount to zip next year anyway....JD

The tape of H.R. Halderman selling out the health and welfare of the American Public in Sicko, followed buy Nixon's eye-batting, duplicitous public address promoting HMOs was transcendent in its expression of political cynicism.

As a friend said, "I especially appreciated the pamphlet that the British came out with -- "This program is not a charity. You pay for it through your taxes." Too bad our politicians can't speak as eloquently [and succinctly]."

Campaign financing is the lynch-pin of the political status quo in the USA. Public financing, with a hefty dose of PSA responsibility for those leasing the citizens' airwaves, and the old political house of cards collapses. But then I'm older now and tired of battling state sponsored ignorance. For the first time in my life I'm not only disappointed with my country, I don't like it anymore.

I wish I'd been born in France or Germany or Italy or Britain or Spain or Norway or the Netherlands or Finland or Sweden, or best of all, Canada. No place is perfect and coming after WWII life wouldn't have been easy, but were I a young man, I would leave the USA and never look back.

Well, we got those links out OK. Talk about synchronicity!

Blue Gal rocks. Very creative

Blue Gal -

Your video is a brilliant work of art. It's so beautiful and very moving.

Kucinich is a sideshow. Your efforts to pressure Hillary into universal healthcare would be better spent addressing her directly without ever mentioning the thought of Kucinich becoming President of this particular country, which is an absolute complete impossibility on this earth as we know it, on this energy plane of existence, ever, in his lifetime, even if he were to live to be 280 years old, to occur.

HAHA! I love that!

I strongly suspect that if you state enough enough times that Kucinich, who as far as I know is allowed to run for political office in this country, is doomed to fail, then it becomes a self-filfilling prophecy. Why not allow people in this country to make up their own mind as to who might be the best qualified person to run for president instead of condemning them for voting for whom they consider to be the most qualified candidate who is running for office? In this country it is called freedom of choice.

Erroll -

I understand about the Prisoners Dilemma, and what you are saying.

I am only merely talking about the mathematical facts, probabilities, and realities that constitute the actual universe in which we, as a generation, are fated live for the rest of our life expectancies.

I cannot speak about fantasyland, as I am not one of its denizens, but I'm sure Kucinich has more info about its particular topography if you check his website.

Wow, talk about a defeatist attitude. All I hear is "I like Kucinich, but I won't vote for him because he can't win". Seriously, WTF? If we liberals didn't rely on the corporate-controlled media to tell us who to vote for, Kucinich would be leading in the polls. One thing's for sure. He won't win if we don't vote for him.

Frankly, I would rather not have anymore blood on my hands by electing a candidate who says "all options are on the table" with regard to Iran. I also don't think we'll have the right to complain about the government not representing us when we consistently elect corporate shills into office. We are demoralized into thinking we can't make a difference, so we don't.

Manila -

WTF? I don't see what the World Taekwondo Federation has anything to do with it.

We don't elect corporate shills. Corporations give them money so that the United States of America elects them. We can make a difference: by badgering the living heck out of said shills in order to make them act human, and by electing local officials where the corporations forgot to reach their ugly tentacles.

As far as electing the POTUS, to paraphrase you, if we liberals didn't rely on gravity, Kucinich would be leading in the polls.

"He [Kucinich] won't win if we don't vote for him." Succinctly and eloquently well said. As you state, if the corporate run media does not grant its imprimatur to a corporately owned candidate, then those such as Kucinich and Gravel will have little chance unless the grass roots get the word out that their candidate's message deserves to be heard by the citizens of this country. It is also instructive to keep in mind that Clinton and Edwards were advising each other that it would be best if the lesser known candidates were cut off at the knees, supposedly done with the best interests of the Democratic party in mind. The hope is that the people in this country will look beyond the superficiality of those who are running and concentrate upon candidates such as Kucinich who is truly progressive in what he has to say.

Earth to Erroll:

This generation will not elect a candidate who is "truly progressive in what he has to say." But it will tolerate a President who will lie and then will be truly progressive in what he will do.

Look at the enemy. It will not elect a candidate who is "truly conservative in what he has to say." But it will tolerate a President (such as the one we now have) who will lie (compassionate conservative) and then will be truly radical in what he will do.

Kucinich is a good soul and I'm sure he represents the best in humanity. Say this mantra, which I'm sure he would love:

"He will never be elected. I will focus my positive energies from all of my chakras on trying to bend my favorite candidate, who has any slight possibility of winning, to become in deeds as good as Kucinich would be in his words."

Peace, and om.

Crooks and Liars never once helped me promote one of my Granny Bee commentaries. How did that "let our issues and framing go viral"?

What was that noise at the end of the clip?
It sounded like someone beating on an intoxicated homeless person with a set of drums.

Just like everyting Kucinich does, that was lame and sucked ass. It was based on very good ideas, could have worked if it had writers, but was an Al Yankovich remake of a Hillary remake.

When will the democratic party come to it's senses and put Dennis in a cigar box, and let him out to vote, pee, and speak at conventions. Take the Cheney impeachment. Great idea, but because the Ohio leprechaun completely botched it, you can forget about it ever happening. If I didn't know Kucinich was so incorruptible, I would have guessed that Cheney paid him to do that.

To all of you followers of Dennis, don't get me wrong. I'm not against what he has to say, I'm just against him saying it. Just like I say a prayer to Satan every night asking for the eternal damnation of everyone who voted for Nader in 2000, I have a special place in my hearts for people who think Denis could win 3nd place in any primary. You people aren't just wasting your time, you are wasting everyone's time. Give it up, move along, and please don't spill any of your Kucinich on our party.

"...I'm not against what he [Kucinich] has to say, I'm just against him saying it". "Do you believe that Kucinich, like Nader, should not be allowed to run for office, because that seems to be what you are seriously saying. Can you point out out to us where in the Constitution it states that people like Nader and Kucinich are not allowed to run for president? I searched my two copies of the U.S. Constitution and was unable to find the specific article and section where it states that only corporately owned candidates are allowed to run for office. As I tried to point out at post # 22, apparently to no avail, in this country it is called freedom of choice, despite what your fascistic rhetoric would seem to imply.

I loved this video! Really nice slam at the Clinton's and Blue Gal's sardonic tone is just perfect for the "yeeah, right" sentiment the whole country seems to be feeling right now.
And I gotta say, Blue Gal is HOT!
And she's so animated!
Milo
PS: Look, the reason we are so glum about Kucinich is because we've all been there. Anybody remember Dukakis? Mondale? Decent, progressive candidatres who got creamed.

JustSickOfIt @ 31:

Just like everyting Kucinich does, that was lame and sucked ass.

You mean like voting against any authorization for the illegal invasion of Iraq? Yeah, how lame. He should have just shut the fuck up and gone along with all the lies that Bush and Cheney and the rest of the right wing cabal cooked up to get us into this criminal and unforgiveable war. So I guess, according to you, we should just shut the fuck up, also, and vote for the candidate that all the mainstream media and corporately-influenced polls tell us to vote for, right?

JustSickOfIt @ 31:

Thank you. I say a prayer to nothingness that arrogant jerks figure out that they don't have all the answers and that they figure out they sound an awful lot like the goosestepping fascists currently running this country that call dissenters 'Traitors.'

I read this earlier and then went to bed, but I couldn't sleep for thinking about this.
We are not begging children set on a curb with our tin cups out to passersby asking for a health care handout. We are the citizens of this country and rather then settle for Hillary's plan, Obama's plan or any of their plans we need to let them know that we will be calling the shots here. Any candidate that is willing to let the insurance and the pharmaceutical industries continue to pick our bones should be shown the door.
The cartoon was cute but displays a wrongheadedness that must be exposed where ever it pops up. We are American citizens, and we do not have to settle for someones triangulated or compromised health care plan, we can decide what will be best and have it.
Could just one candidate say: I will do my best to find out the will of the American people as concerns health care and then I will do my utmost to make their will a reality.

Blue gal rocks... kinda miss the old avatar though.

I highly recommend "The Pinky Show":
