Not Even FOXNews Can Find Someone To Defend Gonzo

Alberto Gonzales is done. First Newt Gingrich stabs the Attorney General's chances by saying that Bush must replace him because the highest legal office in the land should be filled by a person with the highest perceived sense of ethics. But the knife is twisted all that more painfully by Chris Wallace's admission at the end:
By the way, we invited White House officials and Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee to defend Attorney General Gonzales. We had no takers.

The Pot is calling the Kettle black!
actually if you watched the segment Chris Wallace did a great job of defending Alberto. Someone's still carrying the water.
Thanks Chris!
Hatch, on ABC is still trying to defend Gonzo.
Alberto Gonzales is done.
Not till Bush says he is. And at this point, short of impeachment, Bush is unreachable. His polling is in the toilet and his presidency is in ruins, so there's nothing further you can threaten him with. Plus Bush himself is implicated in the same crimes Gonzales has been transparently lying about, so it's not safe for Bush to throw him under the bus. Bush is just waiting till 2009 when he can leave office in a flurry of self-serving pardons.
If he's lost Faux News, stick a fork in him, he's done!
jimBOB @ 5:
Agreed...Unless and until Congress Impeaches Gonzo and tosses him out of office,
he will remain as AG until Jan. 09...this is something many of us have been saying
and/or prediciting for well over a year. Once an allie/cronie/friend of bush, that
person will remain in office as long as bush is in office.
I don't trust that slimey newt. He may be using reverse psychology. And, besides newt is batshit crazy.
Yeah, Orin Hatch on ABC was saying it is just a misunderstanding.
July 8.: George and Laura just returned from a weekend visit to Camp David. It was his 61st birthday the other day and when they left the White House for the helicopter, the staff had put together a crowd of staffers and their families that Bush wouldn’t recognize, lined them up behind a yellow tape and had them wave and shout nice things as the Royal Couple walked by. Bush was waving gleefully with both hands like a small child before opening his Christmas presents. One of my friends heard him say to the wife as they neared the helicopter, “I told you they all still love me!” And his wife nodded and said, ”Yes, they surely do, George.”
You have Bush,
we had Blair.
At least our somewhat less democratic system enabled Blair's party to dump him before he destroyed them and what's laft of Britain's credibility.
What happened to "every vote counts" (and is counted)
Remember at the beginning of The Waterboy, where the team is losing, and the cheerleaders are all passed out drunk?
That's gotta be the mood at Faux News these days. I get the feeling that one of these days, somebody over there is gonna snap on the air and start screaming "I can't say this shit anymore! It's all lies."
Okay, it's just an alcohol-fueled fantasy. But wouldn't it be great?
CNN's Wolfie had Roy Blunt (R- Misery) on basically saying Gonzo dear is now approaching dandy...
'Berto will be taken out with the garbage on the Friday afternoon news dump!
have we finally found a line that the republicrats will not cross?
newt has always been a good bomb-thrower. Now he's lobing them into the middle of the repukes. Newt is slimey, but I think he's been genuine lately.
Gonzo must get around a lot with these matters of national security for all the wingers to know what he really meant. I guess only they are allowed in on the secrets that even congress and the senate aren't privy to.
chlorocardium @ 13:
please do not my state misery...it's 83 degrees in July...it is heaven!!!!
As much as I would like to believe Gonzales is finished, it ain't over 'til the fat lady sings (Karl Rove). We've heard how "done" Gonzales is for months, yet he is still in office. He can sit there and refuse to answer questions. He can refuse to carry out contempt of congress directives.
When we see his banal face behind bars and Karl Rove under oath with a transcript, then Gonzo will be done. Please don't confuse wishful thinking with reality--that's a Gee Dumbya trait, and we don't want to become that which we despise!!!
Well, ABC found someone. That asshat Orrin Hatch was throwing defensive talking points for old Gonzo left and right.
Actually, dipshit Hatch did attempt to defend Gonzo on ABC today.
Hatch was defending Gonzo on ABC. Disgusting. Maybe Hatch really wants to be the next AG?
bob h @ 21:
Yeah, two peas in a pod; those being Specter and Hatch...Scumb of the earth.
By the way, how did Crissy Wallace get a job in front of a camera?
Folks, this is just part of their game plan. Sooner or later you've got to throw somebody overboard...or allow the other guys to capture one of your own...in order to maintain course. Libby was told, 'just keep your mouth shut and no matter what, you won't serve time and you and your family will be fixed for life'. Now Gonzales seems to have been told, 'say whatever you want to this bunch in Congress...double-talk, who's on first mumbo-jumbo...lie, obfuscate, deceive, change your story...it just doesn't matter, because after we decide that we've run this stall about as long as we can, in other words when FauxNoise says it's over, then you can step down - for the good of the country and the administration...and you too won't pay any penalties or serve any time and you'll be 'fixed for life' - how would you like to run my library?'
It's all part of the scam folks and if you haven't figured it out by now you haven't been paying attention - of course if you have and you still support these bastards, then we'll have to deal with you later.
Gotta love this: "...a person with the highest perceived sense of ethics." (emphasis added)
In other words, the attorney general needn't be ethical, just perceived as such...presumably by Faux and the knuckle-draggers it caters to.
Way to go, Newt. We can always count on you to let us know what you really think of the rabble, uh, that is, public.
Well, ABC got Orrin Hatch to 'defend' AG Gonzales rather clearly and ridiculously. Sorry, Senator, but your 'Hatch' is open. You didn't come across well at all, sir, defending someone that isn't defendable at this point. And, really, sir, why even try?!?!? Bush CAN do better and SHOULD do better than Gonzales. But he won't because will be recklessly stubborn to the very end if he has to be by defending his friend. Ashcroft, no matter what one thought of him, was at least not a Bush sycophant. He was independent enough and very well qualified enough to give Bush opinions and advice that was objective. Unlike former White House counsel Gonzales, who just laterally moved over to the AG job from the WH gig. I have no faith in Gonzales giving Bush anything close to objective legal advice on any issue. And nor should anyone else, now for sure. He should be gone soon, if Bush is smart on this issue. But I'm not holding my breath. He IS the problem at Justice.
hmmmmm
This Week's producers found Orrin Hatch who kept squeaking "partisanship." I wish he'd buy some boxers a couple of sizes bigger, he always looks like he's in pain. At the end he was asked if he'd take the job of AG and he said Gonzo wasn't going anywhere.
Republicans still willing to carry the Prez's water are out there.
I was impressed with Charlie Rangel. He told it like it is. Blitzer must have taken a double dose of his librium though, he didn't stutter at all when Charlie said he wouldn't impeach Dubya because that would put an even more corrupt Cheney into the Oval Office..
This whole issue is such a NON-ISSUE.
Just another distraction to give the impression that
some Republicans are opposing this administration.
They AREN'T.
Neither are the Democrats.
Snap out of it.

excellent as i was thinking similarly that Hatch looked 'pained' for some reason. not sure if he's getting enough sleep or whatever. something was odd about his eyes. plastic surgery that didn't take? not sure if Mormons can do that. hmm.
Bush is going to try to replace Gonzalez during the Congressional recess. No vacation this year, Congress.
Every War when it comes, or before it comes, is represented not as a war
but as an act of self-defense against a homicidal maniac.
In our time political speech and writing are largely the defense of the indefensible.
But if thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought.
All War-Propaganda, all the screaming and lies and hatred, comes invariably
from the people who are not fighting.
Political language... is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable,
and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind.
War against a foreign country only happens when the moneyed classes think they are
going to profit from it.
Nationalism is power hunger tempered by self-deception.
We have now sunk to a depth at which restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men.
If Liberty mean anything, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.
In times of universal deceit, telling the truth will be a revolutionary act.

If all of these Republicans think Gonzo is a joke with no credibility, why don't they support a special prosecutor or impeachment? Did anyone ask that question on the morning shows?
Slaw @ 32:
Slaw @ 32:
Great question. He's obviously hurting them, so why not dump him? The only reason is, getting rid of him is somehow worse than letting him stay. So where does that leave us? They don't want a new confirmation hearing, they're being blackmailed by Rove and Bushy, they are slavishly committed to Bush...I don't know, this is the crap that keeps me up at night.
Slaw @ 32:
Indeed. When the rubber meets the road, the Repugs are no more than partisan Bushbots. "Thy wish is my command, Holy Leader" and all that. They just put on a play of deep concern for the country. Like Newt.
By the way, anyone else find it ironically humorous that Faux News uses Newt Gingrich as their representative voice of "integrity" and "non-partisan patriotism"? For Goober's sake, can't they find anyone better on the Repub aisle to try to fill that role?!
Captain Kangaroo @ 23:
Really. Gingrich should be used as a measure for journalistic integrity: if Newt sounds sane next to said pundit, then that pundit should be fired.
Captain Kangaroo @ 23:
Daddy Mike, I imagine. But Chris knows he can't hold a candle to his dad.
Impeachment is the answer, pure & simple.
It is the cure for the cancer that is the Bush administration.
Pelosi is guilty of not upholding her oath of office, cowardice, and complicity. Taking impeachment "off the table" has got to be the greatest political blunder of all time!!! History will judge you harshly,
you spineless bitch!
Da Spyda @ 40:
Damned straight!
i don't think that buys newt any credibility. he's an opportunist with the worst ethics (well he's not a serial killer unless you count being a chickenhawk war cheerleader).
"We badly need an AG who is above any question . . ."
Like the country needed a majority leader who was above question when Newt resigned in disgrace?
What a fucking asshole.
"they love me, they really love me"-Gonzo in the mirror after many a swig of the hard stuff
NO, he is NOT GONE. They are so criminal, they don't care. He'll be there to the end, unless a bunch of Rethugs go to Smirk and tell him he will get to support for legislation, etc., until Gonzo is gonzo.
Nothing short of that will do with these criminals.
Da Spyda @ 40:
History will judge harshly all of the Dems who were congresscritters over the last 6 years.
As a great instance of such, nearly all of the netroots knew Alito and Roberts were far-right ideologues, and wrote to congress saying so, but no, the congresscritters had to listen to their consultants who said to believe them at face value rather than look at their actions or lack of history. So they either supported them outright (Reid and others) or did not carry through the filibuster.
And now they have the audacity to wonder how Alito and Roberts conned them? They should start doing their jobs (which may finally be happening but I'm not even sure of this yet) and reading some of the analyses the netroots provide and studying on their own. Stop listening to their Repub-plant concern-troll consultants and start listening to the netroots.
Well, if you look at Yahoo New today, you will find that it certainly appears(on the
surface) that both Specter and Leahy are also "defending" Gonzo's recent testimony.
Leahy is now back-peddling...indicating that they need to seek further indepth investigation
since it is possible that Gonzo may not have been lieing because there "may have" in fact, been two distinct and different NSA wiretaping programs and confusion "may have arisen"
as to what Gonzo could and could not testify to before the Committee. Sounds to me
as if this is going no where and that we can anticipate Gonzo being w/us as AG until
Jan. 09.
[deleted - way over the top.}
If this clip is edited the same as the original piece, it looks like Feingold is smiling big when they cut to him after Gingrich's remarks.
Probably couldn't find anyone because Hatch had his mouth full of Gonzo over on Meet the Press.
gingrich is adried up old piece of shit.
It should be obvious to Gingrich that as long as Gonzales is the AG the White House is protected from Congressional inquirees.
They have much to hide and an inept and loyal AG is the best defense for the White House.

Man, on Jan. 20 I want to see movers take out the furniture of the AG office with Gonzo still seated in a chair. I want to see what happened to Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop One (ejected out of a closed glass window) happen to Gonzo. I want dogs piddling on him on the sidewalk. I want to see HIS OWN MOM not taking him in.
Gee, while I'm at it, I want a house in the tropics, a Rolls Royce, an iPhone.....Any Genie listening out there?
Gingrich, what a jokester " We need a person in the Attorney Generals office who is perceived to have the highest ehical standards. Image is everything. Right Newt.
[Deleted. Take a chill pill, CoPJ or whatever you're calling yourself. You're OTT today-Sitemonitor]
If the Gonzo Goon is forced out the excuse will be "I need to be around my childred and be supportive with their education". Newt is a high level technician. He knows what is going on in Washington behind the scenes. He's up there with Ghouliani. He's a NEOCON spook and if he says Gonzo is done he might as well be...But we shall see. If anything, his replacement will be just like him our worse. "Hello to the new boss, same as the old boss."
Who could replace Gonzo, when there isn't one trustworthy Rethug. out there.
SckofFknLiarz @ 58:
Not to worry. They can't find ANYONE like themselves who doesn't make them puke.
she turned me into a newt - I didn't get better...
There Fox News "fair and balanced" - we must make a major effort to ensure that 0.001% of the population has 50% of the say.
Amazing. I would think the Repukelickers could stomach defending Gonzo. After all, they have been lapping up Bush Co. leakage ever since the crooks have been in office.
All I have to say is - WOW!
You know something is seriously wrong when even Fox Noise won't even defend a Republican. This is not good for Bushy at all.
Just when you think that things can't get any worse for bush...
senoritchy @ 61:
Hope you enjoyed Spamamlot when it was playing. NIH!!!
Jo @ 7:
Au contraire! He's anything but crazy. He's a conniving opportunist and is considered by many (Republican and Democrat alike) as the one who led the destruction of statesmanship in Washington with his ruthless demonization of those who disagreed with his "Contract With America" in the '90's.
It's pretty amusing to think that a down and dirty political knife-fighter like Newt Gingrich could possibly still believe (or even pretend to believe) that the current "administration" (and I use that term ironically) gives a flying fuck about what's good for the United States of America.
This flash bulletin just in, Newt: They don't.
Rufus T. Firefly @ 66:
Not to worry. Newt's not going anywhere with his current ambitions.
You know things are bad for the Republicans when Newt Gingrich becomes the voice of reason and moral beacon for your party.
Newt has been absent for the last few years... he is coming forward now to promote himself for pres or vp. He has nothing to lose by saying this. He certainly doesn't need bush&co.
Watch out for him... he started this whole mess with his "contract with America" and if you repeat a lie enough times people will believe it (I know, it is not his but he used it).
He is trying to find his way back into the limelight.
Going, going, GONZO!
The Bushie ass kissers defend all the white guys but when it comes to a hispanic they get no takers. REPUBLICANS ARE BIGOTS.
This is Bush vs. Cheney. Cheney wants Gonzo gone-o, yet Gonzo got da goods on Bush. It can only get uglier and I'm gonna stock up on popcorn.
If you are a rupug and this walking sack of shit won't support you, it's time to hang it up baby. Orin hatch doesn't even have a brain. They just wind him up and point he to the right. Newty on the other hand, is a died in the wool, mafioso repug. Gonzo is beneath the friendship of snail turds.
Well, he is Mexican, and you know how those immigrants are bringing back lepresy. :p
gonzo is not going anywhere soon. he is the vital keystone in the stone wall of the administration. a new AG would feel the pressure to open investigations and force the unwilling administration to go before congress and testify under oath. if gonzo is not in place as AG, (Administration Guarddog) the administration is wide open to the daylight of the truth and the consequences of their crimes.
who could bush possibly name to replace gonzo. can you imagine what a newly nominated AG would go through in front of congressinal appointment hearings.
no friggin way bush co wants that.
Isn't time for Chris Wallace to get some work on his face to make him more prepossessing? I suggest this:

Chris always looks so smarmy.
Both he and Dan Rather really irritate me.
