Howie Kurtz Jabs Mitt Romney

(h/t Arlen)

On Sunday's Reliable Sources, Kurtz good-naturedly knocks Mitt Romney's excuse for not joining the CNN/YouTube GOP debate:

KURTZ: Mitt Romney said that, he was expressing his reservations about joining the next YouTube debate, "I don't think candidates should have to answer questions from a snowman." Well let me just say this to the former governor: how are you going to deal with Osama bin Laden if you're afraid of that snowman?

Oh, snap.

I love how Mitt whined that the D's wouldn't show up on Faux News and called them wimps but a big bad snowman, or even worse, the electorate asking questions, well, he's got more important places to be than addressing voters.

Is that the definition of: pwned?

Regarding the GOP's YouTube dodging: Is it me or isn't this a ready-made issue for Howard Dean or someone high up in the Democratic Party, but not actually running, to hit the Repugs with? I mean, really, what a bunch of wussies.

I think the phrase "hiding from their constiuents" has a rather nice ring to it, don't you?

Snowmen hate our freedoms? When are we gonna invade Snowvania or where ever snowmen live? Mitt's right, we don't talk with our enemies.

Father Seamus's picture

I wonder if we will ever catch that Snow Man and bring him to justice. How dare he! Oh and YouTube is a terrorist network that supports the terrorists' ideology. That's the second Snow Man tape they've aired on their network.

emobile's picture

He should also have said:

"How are you going to deal with Osama if you can't tell him apart from Obama?

Then he should say ... "lighten up, Mitt"

Rusty Shackleford's picture

Mitt would rather deal with that snowman by tying it to the top of his car, or maybe taking it as a wife.

This really doesn't look very good for the party that's "tough on terror" if they can't even face Americans asking questions, does it?

liz's picture

Headline: Romney believes Frosty the Snowman lives.
Alternate Headline: Romney ignores voters questions pretending that the Youtube animation was created by snowman instead on an American voter

Perhaps if they promised to have a less threatening character ask Mitt his questions he would agree to play along. Maybe a baby kitten with a sweet little face wouldn't frighten him so much. We don't want him to wet his best Mitt pants in public.

Hell, I wonder if CNN is gonna start to get more critical of Rudy and Mitt if they bail. While it would be sad that it took such an affront for CNN to rake Flip-Flop Mitt and Rudy Ghouliani over the coals .. any excuse to do so is welcome

Interpreter of Maladies's picture

The guy mistakes YouTube for MySpace; he probably should avoid the debate like the plague to look any further like a fool. Never mind the direct, hard questions.

Chicken shit "has a rather nice right to it" too.

Holy Underwear, Batman!

Eric Jaffa's picture

I'm impressed.

I predicted that no one on TV would apply to Republicans the "if they're afraid of" line Tim Russert applied to Democrats who don't want to debate on Fox News.

Required's picture

What he really means is "I shouldn't have to answer questions from the lowly American people...I'll only answer pre-screened questions submitted by wingnut bloggers..."

pissed off patricia's picture

oops, ring, not right.

Eric Jaffa's picture

It's bogus logic whether applied to Democrats or Republicans.

I'm still impressed to see someone on TV hurling the bullsh__ to the right.

leftminded's picture

I'm not sure any of Romney's reservations matter, it is CNN that'll be choosing which questions are aired. I don't think any of those GOP candidates will be afraid to answer what kind of dog they'll be bringing to the White House.

Kurtzpwned!!!!

Republicans are soft on snowmen. It's true.

The Goopers don't need to debate.
There won't be an election.

I couldn't include this as part of the original post, but I thought you'd appreciate Mr. Snowman's response.

Wait, he thinks answering a question from a snowman is beneath him? This from a guy who had bobble head dolls made of himself?

howie kurtz could use a good jab now and then too... but, props on the romney dis.

and, unfortunately, this is not an original line. the dems heard the same 'then how are you going to deal with OBL' when the boycotted the faux news debate. and althought criticism is the same, the underlying factors are COMPLETELY different.

youtube debates: average peeps submitting video. democracy in action (albeit selected and vetted by the CNN dunderheads)

faux news debates: rightwing propaganda supporting the unconstitutional move towards neofascism.

That comment from the snowman, at the site Nicole linked, is priceless.

Mitt, you aren't owed respect, you must earn it. So get busy, Mittster.

seamus's picture

Ask Mitt, The Verminator, Romney if he would agree to the youtube debate if they promise to replace the Snowman, with Vitter The Ho Man.

Arroyo's picture

The YouTube format is a total embarrassment.
All candidates should refuse to go through a "debate" in that format.

Jerry's picture

Oh now, now.....maybe he had a traumatic experience involving a snowman as a child? I think I'll send him some snowman posters or plushes or something to help him through his phobia.

FearXenu's picture

Romney and Arroyo (32) appear to be in desperate need of a sense of humor.

Cat Atomic's picture

It's hilarious to even compare the Democrats' refusal to debate on Fox with the Republicans' refusal to take video questions from actual people. It comes with the admission that the American public is as biased against Republicans as Fox is against Democrats.

You're kidding, right?
The YouTube format is so f***ing dumbed-down - it is worthy of Sean Hannity or Glenn Beck.

Censor. It's all about the censoring, filtering, and insulating the
candidates from being asked "REAL" questions.
Something the MSM will never do.

Mark Richards's picture

The people find candidates who refuse to answer real questions; who ride above confrontation by avoidance. Then we get idiots in power who trample over the American people.

How many more times must we repeat this?

I'm sure they're working on it.

Of course, in typical repig fashion, they'll attack Cuba - insisting all the while that they're fighting the snowmen there so we won't have to fight them here.

No, no, I'm not. Double Gitmo. Waaaah.

What kills me about this posting is that there is still someone out there who thinks the Republican party has any interest in going after Bin Laden? They don't want him and even if he was still alive they would not persue him or Al Queda, the Repug's like having that ficticious boogeyman they can turn to in tough times.

zo's picture

Snowmen are people too, Mitt! hehe

Dr. Acula's picture

I suggest the republic party change their mascot to the OSTRICH.

Hey I thought there were some great questions in there with the silly ones. Like having to tell a lesbian woman to her face exactly why they should not be allowed to marry. It wasnt all the perfect questions that brought truth to light the whole time, but what format was better exactly?
When did you have your questions answered in a way that you prefer?
I though in the absence of a real debate it was a good substitute.

Jeannine's picture

I believe that something tragic is going to happen so that the bush will remain in office past his 2008 exit date. We cannot allow them to "steal" the election again or have something so tragic happen that the elections won't take place and we have to deal with Darth Cheney with the King of Idiots at his side AGAIN. These people are killing us slowly but surely.

The snow man thing did remind be a little of grade school. First grade actually. Maybe we should have a little more substance and respect in a presidential debate and not make it look like "share and tell" time.

Joe's picture

There sure are a lot of dumb comments on this message board.

CNN picked the questions. If it looked undignified you need look no further. This reminds me of the debate sponsored by the congressional black caucus where no one but Tancredo showed up. Were there any debates the members of yesterday's party do plan on attending?

In what way was the snowman question lacking in substance or respectfulness? It seemed to be addressing a substantive topic in a respectful, if humorous, way.

Singing questions, asking Obama just how Black he was ... it was Glenn Beckian.
If they're going to retain that format, the least they could do is play the Paris Hilton Sex Tapes, to dignify the proceedings a bit.
