Take the Fox News Quiz here!

http://freewayblogger.blogspot.com/2006/09/fox-news-quiz.html

It's fun!

There was just something up at The Great Orange Satan about the Florida Supreme Court ruling in favor of Fox News' right to make shit up and call it news...

here we go.

Stogoe, that's right. I read all about it somewhere today. Freedom of the press means they can say whatever the hell they want, in the name of being the "press". I guess I could argue this either way but I am as frustrated as you. We really don't want the press to be told what they can and cannot say, but at the same time it would be nice if they told the truth.

Why you think Lawyers are flocking to talk shows?

A subtle yet critical conflation made by Mr. Uygur. He refers to Fox News as "conservative." Fox News is not conservative, but Republican. It is a very very very important distinction. Uygur makes a lot of good points here, but this seemingly trivial error is indeed a biggie.

They touched on this a smidge, but I'd like to see more openly mocking of Fox News as an entity. No self-respecting news or poliical personality should ever ever ever endorse that Republican Front. They should instead laugh at the very idea. Any and all Fox News people should be held with the hightes mocking contempt.

Credentialing FOX as "Opinion" gives them a credibility they don't deserve. Assuming the question of whether they should even be let through the door has been answered, they should be credentialed as "Propagandists".

cenk and ben do a great show in the morning on error america. check it out before they pitch them too.

"So, Candidate/Political Personality/Self-respecting Soul X, why aren't you appearing on Fox News?"

"Because they aren't conservative, but an outright appendage of the Republican Party. They are a laughable group of pseudo-journalists whose only function is to spout Dick Cheney and Karl Rove's talking points du jour. Next question."

See, it really isn't all that hard.

What the hell?!?!?! why isn't this all over the front page everywhere? What better point to argue that Fix'd Noise should be re-labeled. "We have every right under the law (whatever that is anymore) to deliberately lie to and mislead our viewers.... I know this was an insignificant story, but if they argue that they can distort that then what about the countless other, more important news stories they twist into propaganda?

Lawyers are frustrated artists. So they choose whatever way to fame they can manage. Even Coulter is a Lawyer. Isn't everybody anymore?

Did anyone just hear Melanie Morgan on Hardball. When asked if Bill would be an asset for Hillary. Melanie said Hillarey's wife, Bill would be a problem since he was still dating. Then she went on to say that Thompson's wife would be an asset to him because, among other reasons, she knows global warming is a hoax.

Why the hell isn't Morgan a Fox regular? That's where she belongs. She was the essence of opinion media.

Well based on what I've read on Media Matters' website I don't see a distinction between Faux News and ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN or any other MSM outlet in terms of their desire to deceive or misinform their viewers. The big three networks are constantly inviting either Ann Coulter or Rush Limbaugh to come on their networks and express their opinions and CNN has given Glen Beck his own show. Tim Russert is Dick Cheney's mouthpiece. ABC has admitted that they want to be more conservative. NBC has Chris Matthews who's more concerened with haircuts than real news. I can't think of any major MSM outlet like Time magazine, Newsweek, NY Times, etc, that doesn't have some big name pundit working for it who also happens to be factually challenged. So its no surprise to me why nobody other than the blogs are challenging Faux News because they've all become an extension of Faux News.

Morgan is married to Jack Swanson, a senior manager of her radio station. Morgan and her husband live in Marin County, north of San Francisco.

Guess she has a cozy gig and home among the liberal enclaves of Marin.

I love the idea of truth-in-labeling as applied to this situation. I hope a movement for it quickly gains foot-hold and grows.

There is a critical distinction being made ~~

No. And don't get me wrong not all lawyers lack talent. Or ethics.

The problem Fox has with the "truth-in-labeling" approach is the word "truth". It's just not something Fox does.

Yes I heard that, Patricia, and the stand in Tweety, Mike Barnacle let it slide without a whimper.

The dem didn't hear it because her ear piece was down.

Morgan is a lying right wing radio talk show host, so it didn't surprise me at all.

Here in California lawyers don't have ethics. We have "Professional Responsibilty."

As for talent, well, I've been told that I'm a cunning linquist.

The "news" is a product these corporations need to sell. There's no requirement that it factual, truthful or objective.

Be it toilet bowl cleaner, pet food, a war, a crooked politician, or some talentless idiot, it's all about profit.

All I can say is thank-god my kids grew up without TV, are critical thinkers and don't fall for this crap. They're all early 20's and they STILL don't watch the crap. My 22 year old son recently expressed his appreciation for this on his web-site.

It's tough - trying to sort through all the garbage. As the GOP proudly asserts - "we create our own reality" -- clearly Faux News is one of the most visible proofs that they have actually gone a long-way toward achieving their goal.

We need critical thinkers in this country - and an educated electorate. If my kids were high-school age right now - I would home school them if at all possible (and I do not judge those who can't.)

I submit that FOXNEWS is very balanced. For every truth they air, they balance it with 10 right wing lies.

I hope Cenk gets more tv airtime. He's always great

OHHH! I get it ! "error" rhymes with "air." HahahahahahahahHHHAHAHAHAHAHAhA , oh man, that's a good one.

Well, Air America has dumped some good talent. Sam Seder, Mike Malloy and Mark Maron all had good shows, imo.

I disagree that it's up to the media to call out Fox News. That makes it seem like competitive bickering.

The truth is, it's false advertising.

There are regulators in every industry out there who say, "No, you can't call that product 'orange juice' if it only has 5% orange juice in it."

Or "No, you can't claim your car can go from 0-60 in ten seconds when it actually takes 15."

This is NOT a freedom of speech issue.

When you are selling, marketing, promoting a PRODUCT, which is what Fox News is, you simply can't call it "NEWS" when there's a blip of news every hour!

When will the FCC or the FTC or somebody step in and do their job?

I think this whole "Opinion Media Credentials" idea from Cenk Uyguy is a joke!!

Ooohhh...who enforces the "Opinion Media" badge? How does this fix anything wrong with the completely sold-out MSM, facist, corporate mouthbreathers that own the MSM? It doesn't do sh!t!

Hell, in the DarkHouse where GW Botch slithers he would love to only welcome "Opinion Media" people to his parties and press conferences and other sh!t!

I've been screaming for a MUCH BETTER IDEA for over a year at other blog sites. Let me repeat myself again with a much better idea than "Opinion Media" merit badges.

SOLUTION:

File complaints with the FEC pointing out that Fux nOoze is AN ILLEGAL, UNREGISTERED 527 ORGANIZATION.

QUESTION:
What the difference between moveon dot org who was fined by the FEC and Fux nOoze? Ownership of a network?

BOTTOM LINE:
Fux nOoze is an illegal 527 group!!!

You're absolutely correct, as far as I'm concerned... so don't give them your money. It's a personal choice and it feels pretty dang good... Don't watch that idiot BillOPigface; when I find out who's advertising on his show, I shun them too. Saves me a fair bit of cash... :)

Cenk is not the spokesman that I would like for the liberal viewpoint. He is not as well spoken as he could be. Nice try, no cigar.

That's because his idea is bad. It's hype-ola.

Read my previous post about filing REAL complaints to the FEC pointing out that Fux nOoze is an illegal, unregistered 527 group.

My idea approaches reality by a horseshoe more than Cenk's CUTE LITTLE IDEA.

Unfortunately, Keith turned out to be wrong about Murdoch not being able to buy the Journal: that nightmare was not averted. Anybody think that's going to hurt KO's credibility?

You know what Keith? I love ya, love your show, but this time, you were emulating
Billo himself. Who cares about Fixed News (a term, by the way, I coined at least two years ago - you may owe me a royalty on that young man!!)? Filling segments is one thing, but filling it with Billo stuff is redundant, and we all know what redundancy in that regard has done to Billo - made him a total loon.

You're so much better than that. You wanna see Billo outta control? Ignore him!!

American people need and want the truth in our news media and we really do not care who the hell get offended by having to do just that.

All TV's come with two important parts: an on/off button and a channel changer...while it is far better for most people to use the first one and just not watch ANY TV, the second choice makes FOX disappear like magic. No really, try it...click, they are gone. End of story.

That's my nickle...

I can't believe the Young Turks radio show is the best progressive radio has to offer. They don't even seem to be particularly well informed or persuasive communicators. Boring radio.
