PBS's NOW: New legal hope for Guantanamo detainees?

gitmo.jpg PBS's NOW:

A strong blow to the Bush Administration's detainee policy, and the military lawyer who dealt it. On Friday, August 3 at 8:30 pm (check local listings), David Brancaccio talks with Lieutenant Commander Charles Swift, whose Supreme Court victory on behalf of his client, a Guantanamo Bay detainee, successfully challenged the Bush administration's detainee policy. It also laid the foundations for the current Congressional debate over how to try those accused of terrorism. Will this development in the war on terror deliver swifter justice or false hope?

The NOW website will offer special insight into detainee treatment through the perspectives of a former prisoner and an army interrogator.

i try not to be too pessimistic, but i'm going with 'false hope' on this one.

bush and his merry band of law breakers have not come this far to let little things, like laws and human rights, get in their way.

There is no war on terror. There is only the neo con war on democracy.

I'd like a double Guantanamo on the rocks please. With a piece of lemon.

As if any of these guys knew anything pertinent so many years later.

Most were apparently just fingered by rival war lords for the quick cash reward.

And who wouldn't resist invaders anyway?

Now that all 200 detainees are as responsive as vegetables from years of brainwashing, waterboarding, electrotherapy and beatings, we'll explain their rights to them and let them represent themselves in court.

Charles Swift. Now there is an American hero. He really ought to run for office (as a Dem, of course), our country could really use his brains, courage, and principles.

Who's Tara Reid?

I know who John Reid is, his nephew, the name of his nephew's horse, and his great grand nephew, and the name of his great grand nephew's car.

Okay, that's enough suspense. John Reid was the Lone Ranger; his nephew's name was Dan; his nephew's horse's name was Victor (son of Silver); his great grand nephew was Britt Reid (The Green Hornet), and his car's name was Black Beauty.

Of course that was the first Green Hornet, but it's been passed down the family line supposedly to this day.
