You got that right! No comments! And no Frist for that matter!

Next case!

"change the way the world looks at us" I like that a lot...

obama seems like a good guy

but, yet...

go Kucinich

Look out Billary!

inspiring words from a truly strong woman. It's great to see a woman with the verve, and intelligence to lead our country into a new way of thinking what is expected of women in the public eye. I'm so tired of the trophy, zombie eyed wife that Laura Bush has been for the past 7 years.

I'm tired of fear too.

simply amazing, magnetic, electric.

She really makes many good points about the world based on fear propagated by the neocon madmen.

What the rightwingnut hate noise machine has said about Obama not being "black enough" or the other baseless slander directed at him because of his race will be now directed at her. The bigots like Rush must have something to say about her and it will be uncalled for as usual.

I am impressed but like I told my friend i'd vote for turd on a stick as long as its not a republican. (not that i'm saying barack obama or his wife is a turd on a stick)

very nice

No comment necessary. She nailed it.

Can we put her on the ballot?

She fires up a room. Why isn't she speaking all the time? What an asset.

I'm jaded, and I was moved. I have a sense that this is the kind of presidential spouse that can have an effect on an election. Am I overstating this?

Well, if the Barack thing doesn't work out, Michelle for president!

Their running the wrong Obama. If I wasn't totally disgusted by the Democratic machine I'd vote for him.

Vote Party for Socialism and Liberation!

Prof.

Put her in charge man!

Outstanding speaker. Vote Obama and you get two great minds/speakers for the price of one....

In fact, here's a prediction: This speech gets onto hardball, and Chris Matthews sings her praises: "A new face....; adds legitimacy to her husbands narrative of change....; reminiscent of Eleanor...

I think this changes things.

So if it wasn't fear that made Obama consistently fund the war he voted against, what was it? Hypocrites. The only anti-war candidates are Kucinich and Gravel.

Can you see ANY of the Republic wives giving that kind of speech?

Judith (don't call me Judi ) or Mitt's wife?

Ah, but, they'll Swiftboat Michelle somehow.

Probably say "She's too smart" to be First Lady, or some other dumb ass crap.

*sigh* How many times do I have to point out that some of us are on dial-up, and find it hard, if not impossible, to watch/download clips? At least give us an idea of what it's about if not an outright transcript.

Is she addressing the question all FAUX viewers want to know:

Is Obama Black Enough?

I keep hoping that we are ready for a black president, or a woman president. I doubt it, but I keep hoping.

Damn straight, FOR CHRIST SAKE VOTE KUCINICH, its time to stop the war and fund the health care of ALL of our citizens NOW!

Hear, hear! That was unbelievably sincere, honest, and evocative. If I weren't so much more for Kucinich-Style standpoints, I would be swayed. I could handle voting for a man who has a strong and goodly hopeful for 1st Lady behind him, though. She speaks like a true Lady, acts like a true Lady, and would make a very good first lady from what I've seen.

As far as why she doesn't speak more often, I would think that's a good thing... you don't want the effect of her powerful words to be diminished by being flung around carelessly! Nor is she merely a trophy to be displayed proudly by her husband; she seems to be very comfortable being Barack's equal as opposed to talking about how to make women appear equal from her husband's shadow. i.e. - the comment about 'letting him run the race', as though he wouldn't be running if she didn't give the ok. that's pretty powerful in action, considering she didn't belabor the point or make an issue of it... it just came right out of her like it was simply the way it is. Go on, Lady!

Can't wait for her next appearance, tho.

Corporal Hicks @ 17:

Put her in charge man!

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!! hehehehe, niiiice reference

Manila, what's an anti-war candidate?

She gives Ms. Edward's a run for her money.

Either woman or man for that matter would be better then the brittle bitches in office now.

Jim H @ 15:

Well, if the Barack thing doesn't work out, Michelle for president!

...not only is she a woman, but she's black too! That'll make the neo-cons' heads spin like Linda Blair in The Exorcist.

It was good to know that if Barrack Obama wins that he'll have a great team, and what sounds like a wonderful first wife. She was sincere and motivating. I still pick Kucinich, but Obama just moved up a notch with Michelle backing him.

Seriously though, would anything change under Obama?

Michelle is not only articulant, but smart, intelligent and gets "our juices flowing" with
her emotional appeal. Soooooo the opposite of most presidental candidates wifes.
Am wondering, will Hillary now find it necessary to put Bill in front of an audiance
since he too is, I think we can all agree, some kind of great speaker and can, if
needed, pump up the Clinton supporters..

Kucinich (period)

Peace!

i love how he comes running out in dorky fashion after all that!

I said WOW. I just had that feeling, a wonderful feeling, a feeling of hope and happyness I haven't felt since my youth.

Then I turned on my TV and radio and got the fair and balanced nappy headed hoe facts.

Now I feel sick again.

yeah this speech was impressive but, in my opinion, only 2 candidates would generate real change in this country, Dennis Kucinich or Ron Paul. The other candidates will be business as usual.

I loved it!! Very inspiring.

There was one thing that I noticed early on that bugged me through-out the speech though. Instead of having her framed in the middle of the camera, most of the time CNN gave her half the screen with someone in the background framed in the other half. Now it's good to see the crowd for reactions but they chose someone that looked like he was waiting for a bus. His arms crossed his chest or he tapped his fingers making it seem like he didn't care to be there. He also was looking away from the speaker. And whatever he was doing with his mouth the whole time was very distracting.

Maybe I'm making something out of nothing but it just came across like middle-America-white-male wanted nothing to do with such a great speech. And image has so much to do with running for office....how many times do we see bush filmed with a halo over his head? I waited until the end because I wanted to see his reactions to Obama himself, but the guy seemed to disappear from his seat.

I'm going to play it again, but this time I will only listen!   : )

Peace to all

I keep hoping that we are ready for a black president, or a woman president. I doubt it, but I keep hoping.

Well, if not this cycle, it's really just a matter of time, a generational situation.

Sure, the South/Red/Wingnut Religious folks, only will vote for Rich White Men, but those people are losing the demographic war BIG TIME. I mean, these people think Jesus is some white guy investment banker? (I guess they have never seen any Hassadic Jews, eh? To them Jesus probably DOES look like Mitt Romney?)

Even folks like me, Baby Boomers, are dropping like flies.

My kids, and my friends kids, will be clueless as to why we even argued why being Black or a Woman had anything to DO with being president?

To tell the truth, even now, it's more about being RICH then anything else?

Who was the last NON-Millionaire President, Bill CLinton? Of course, he is one NOW? (but, I digress....)

Yes, it might not be THIS cycle, cause the Republics are so good at the Evil part of politics...

But it will happen.

Davey @ 19:

In fact, here's a prediction: This speech gets onto hardball, and Chris Matthews sings her praises: "A new face....; adds legitimacy to her husbands narrative of change....; reminiscent of Eleanor...

I think this changes things.

I would predict that this speech never makes it anywhere near the MSM. Why would they cover someone of class, style, and substance when they can cover Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton?

I saw Michelle in my hometown here in IL about 3 weeks ago, she was just great.

Laura Bush is not a "Trophy Wife". That mindless twit is more like a boobie prize, kind of like a case of Turtle Wax. Just looking at her vapid smile makes me want to hurl. And who friggin' dresses her? Ugh!

Of the current First Lady contenders, both Elizabeth Edwards and MIchelle Obama have shown themselves to be ladies of strength and character. I just hope it doesn't hurt their husbands' chances. I seem to remember how the media blasted Howard Dean's wife for being an independent thinker.

Aperturius @ 12:

Can we put her on the ballot?

Looks like he has his VP choice down! She was great, she would be
a wonderful First Lady. She is behind her husband 110% yet she is
strong, intelligent and independent. She really strikes a chord.

Let's elect real people as our candidate this time -- as Democrats we've tried the groomed insiders, and we loose everytime. People will vote their gut instincts, they will love Barack and Michelle. Can you imagine next October when the election becomes about who is Bill sleeping with now?!! Wake up Democrats, let's pick a winner this time. Barack or Edwards will do. Hillary has a 48% disapproval rating. Rove, Bush and Co., are just salivating to run against her.

Let's be smart this time!

I agree, for the MSM is all part of the bigger game of keeping the citizens scared/afraid/
fearful of terrorists...Wars make money for Big Business and Corporations, so being part
of that group, the MSM will give little coverage/attention to Michelle's speech which
was "on point"; that is, FEAR is something that we need not fear.

did you notice? no script - just passion and actual feelings, not political rhetoric

Beemer,

Maybe you're right. But it seems like something to talk about, the one thing they need to do is fill up air time with the kind of stuff that they can comment on glibly (Thompson's musky smell; Mitt's ties, e.g.) without preparation. And this fits that mold. Let's look for it in the next few days. One thing's for sure, it doesn't get onto fox.

Chris from Ohio @ 37:

yeah this speech was impressive but, in my opinion, only 2 candidates would generate real change in this country, Dennis Kucinich or Ron Paul. The other candidates will be business as usual.

Which is why NEITHER of them has a prayer of getting 1% of the vote.

Business, and isn't that what the MSM is, will never let them even be considered.

But, I do have to comment, all this adoration for Ron Paul?

So, I get he's against the war, but he is also a total reactionary, who believes in fictions like a return to the gold standard, and dismantling virtually EVERY government regulation like the FDA, etc.

True, the FDA is screwed up from the Bushies, but if Ron Paul is in power, there is NO check at all on the big corporations?

He's also vehmently pro-life, which is really a classist battle, not a moral one?

In Ron Paul's America, the rich have ALL the power, nothing can check them in his idealistic libertarian view, cause the Government has NO ROLE what-so-ever?

In Ron Pauls America, we would NEVER have built the Interstate Highway System, or put a man on the moon?

Forget government funded research, public funding for science, and chance at a health care system, all gone in his vision?

Ron Paul would be great, if this was circa 1810 agrarian Virginia, but it ain't!

WashStateBlue @ 47: Very well said!

listening to her makes me proud to be an American... after a very long wait.

Obama for President, yeah! He wants to go to Pakistan. Bravo! Let the Weapons industry continue to ear billions! Bravo!

Oh my goodness. Contrast this with the Bush first ladies and their beautiful minds and "this is working out well for the poor people" crap. I would be proud to have her as a first lady.

Except... I didn't like the "strong family values" comment. Those words have just become creepy after years of hearing them.

She talk about this?

Fri Aug 17, 11:21 AM ET

MOSCOW - President Vladimir Putin said Friday that he had ordered the military to resume regular long-range flights of strategic bombers, a show of Russia's resurgent military power which comes amid a chill in relations with the United States.

I like what she said and I'm a cynical fuck.
But now, we wait and see how the rightwing bigots respond...

What an emotional lot! No wonder the Republic is sinking!

[...] Clark Link to Article barack obama Michelle Obama Speaks » This excerpt is from an article posted at [...]

I guess she has a crush on Obama.

She is too smart to be First Lady - she should consider being President, and maybe have Elizabeth Edwards as VP! The men have been running things in this world for far too long and it doesn't appear they can learn from their mistakes. Why not put women in charge for a while and see what a little nurturing, caring, and real compassion (as opposed to "compassionate conservatism") can do to make this world a better place for all mothers and their children?!

I wonder if she worships Joe Liarberman too?

I trust her a lot more than I trust Obama. he's a fake.

This was my introduction to Michelle Obama. And ooooh I like her! I really, really, like her.

If She claims her husband Obama is soooo brave and not afraid, then stand up with Dennis and Impeach the bastards out of office. As far as I am concerned that is the marker of a valid brave candidate for President at this point.

I do understand Putin. That's what happens when you have a sorry dumbass President. But then again, there's lots of money to be made in a "Cold war" environment. Right? Our infrastructure, student loans, employment, healthcare? Fuck them all!

Great speech, but she seems to not have been listening to the finely woven words of her husband's business as usual approach to the world during the campaign. He wants to seal the deal he must begin to give the people the man his wife just described...

I am writing in her name.

Wow, that warmed me, so much power!(in a good way) She really came across!

she makes a good speech. however, she is not running, obama is. I won't vote for him just because his wife is likeable.

Judge NOT on "electibility", Judge Not on Rhetorics or Articulate, vote NOT on possibility.............

instead Judge for substance, preservation of our Constitution, the foundation that makes OUR democracy NOT imperial. Judge him for character and vote YES on REALITY.

Before you Vote...............AMERICA do your homework. Voting Records are a fact. Actions taken are a fact. Action speak volume than words. Democrats means for the people and it does not mean for the Corporation or corporate lobbyist.

IF YOU TRULY want credibility and integrity back on the table, clear out the table and consider voting for the man for the common man. DENNIS KUCINICH.

Don't allow yourselves to be deceived by an artificial "IMAGE" made by Hollywood. No more illusion. No more special effects. No more make-up. No more beauty contest. No more favoritism or corporate, made-up leaders.

We NEED a genuine human-being who understand the concerns of humanity. Peace and Harmony is a commodity that has long been disolved in our core. We must change the culture of our leaders to bring back the culture of peace and humanity by lifting a leader that understand our needs and aspiration. Dennis Kucinich is that MAN.

OK I get it. Where do I get my Obama08 bumper sticker?

She hit a lot of good notes, a fine speech. But I must say I am warmed by the support for Dennis in this thread. While he's unlikely to get the nomination, it would be nice to see a strong showing during the run-up. Of course, if the wave keeps building...!

i guess if you have someone to write you a great speach wed all look good, i guess youve forgot obamma wants to reshuffel all out troops into afganistan, he states irans a menace and hed go into packistan with our troops to get alkida or osama , sounds like just another warmonger to me, get out of iraq , get out of afganistan get out of the wto, get out of nafta cafta and stop licking the corporations asses , thats kuciniches message , not obammas not clintons ! kucinich take a chance try a different way stop letting the corporations lead you like a bunch of sheep, kucinich 08!

Why would the wife of a candidate talk about foreign relations and/or diplomatic tactics? (Should Ken Lay's wife go to jail because of Enron? Well, maybe... That's a bad example.) She was introducing her husband, not dictating foreign policy. Get a life.

Right. This is just entertaining bullcrap. Personal life anecdotes have little to do with
the many positional reversals Obama has made as soon as he got his hands on Soro's money (which in reality was meant to prevent the horrors of another Clinton and a countermeasure against Murdock's money), I doubt Obama understands that.

Yeah, I often have wondered about not only your listed items; but what SHE would do about my mail not being delivered on a timely basis, the cost of gas at various service
stations in my region charging different prices, the local animal shelter does not have
sufficient funding and space for stray or abused animals, it rains in parts of Texas but

Michelle's was an inspirational and intelligent speech, delivered from the heart, that genuinely speaks to one of our nation's most cherished tenets: hope and optimism for a brighter future.

Some here have ridiculed it as "emotional lot" or "entertaining bullcrap", oblivious to the fact that she was simply introducing her husband, not setting forth public policy initiatives.

An impressive person; we'd be fortunate to have her as our first lady. Thanks for posting this.

Let go of the hate, man. The Chinese are good people. Don't be a hater. Like Michelle says, no more fear.

tyree, I'm prone to agree with you, though not sooooo extremely. Barack is very much for Big Business, and that really has to go out the window for now. Big Business has way too much control OVER the gov't at the present, so I can see where you are going with that. but you should refine your words and thoughts more and be inflammatory less, man.

You do nothing to shape your argument or advance your ideals through the means you're using. not an insult, just advice. ^_^ But seriously, big business has to be reeled in and government needs to take it hands out of the corporate cookie jars. it's true, ppl. easier said than done, but TRUE

Would really love Obama or Kusinich or Edwards . . . would love anyone but another Rethug. Looking forward to whoever it is to bring us all together in the end and toss these rat bastards out of office.

she talks a lot about not fearing.

but why did her husband Barack give this warmongering speech at AIPAC???

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/3/3/114131/6084

if only his positions reflected the sincerity we saw in her speech.

Did Michelle also talk about "chinese poisoned dogs cats [...]." I must've missed that part, too.

I said the same thing!

Aperturius @ 12:

Can we put her on the ballot?

Chris from Ohio @ 37:

yeah this speech was impressive but, in my opinion, only 2 candidates would generate real change in this country, Dennis Kucinich or Ron Paul. The other candidates will be business as usual.

Ron Paul can bite me.

All too true again. Kucinich! 1 st choice. or even crazy old Gravel! well, Gravel would be better off as a VP... but anywhoot, semantics.

Right on...and see my #95 above for many other issues she did not speak too. My gosh,
her speech was an introduction of her husband and that's all...Get a life some of you.

The really weird thing is, I didn't know Michelle Obama was Chinese.

WOW..she is actually....normal...and made sense when she talks(and yes, she puts Dubya to shame). She is obviously MUCH younger than our dipshit-in-cheif, does anyone know her age??

That made me cry. So refreshing to see a smart woman speak w/ integrity.

As far as Obama's foreign policy: he is responding to hypotheticals, not real life.

When he was faced with the real decision on Iraq, he was damn right while everyone else was damn wrong, so would expect more of the same if in office. And he is smart enough to surround himself with even smarter people to brainstorm with.

Doggiebobo @114 -- thx for the props. ^_^ you have some very interesting insights as well, might I add.

Garcia @ 115 -- he does make sense. it's just a shame he can't get past his own anger to make it plain... more ppl would be able to see his P.O.V. and open up more debate if he just took a breath and counted to ten before posting. ^_^

Vic @ 8:

She really makes many good points about the world based on fear propagated by the neocon madmen.

What the rightwingnut hate noise machine has said about Obama not being "black enough" or the other baseless slander directed at him because of his race will be now directed at her. The bigots like Rush must have something to say about her and it will be uncalled for as usual.

Let Rush try to call a woman who grew up on the Southside of Chicago a "half-rican."

Better yet, why doesn't fat boy come out to the Southside to see for himself?

Could you kindly link those cnn speeches? I must have obviously not been listening to the same speeches you have.

could you get off your lazy ass and hunt for it yourself its their on their archives if your that interested im not your servant!

I have in fact heard and read his speeches. Not one of them suggests to me that he is, as you allege, a "warmongering corporationalist". Rather than supporting your assertions with facts, you've chosen to question my vigor or interest in these matters. If I may, you're increasingly sounding more and more like an O'Reilly replica.

She's absolutely lovely. We need to hear just EXACTLY how Obama plans to allay those fears, since I'll tell you, his positions, the least of which is the worrisome Patriot Act which he is for and a whole list of other positions that directly oppose what his wife is saying.

No problem. I'm 72 and like you try to keep up w/current events in a civil and rational
and reasonable manner. I too heard Obama on CNN...and our interpretations just differ
as to what he said...under a hypothethical situation.

Meanwhile, Laura's wandering around the West Wing looking for the Xanax pixies.

The right wing A-holes will nitpick about the 10 years/8 years details that I guess maybe slipped, unless I'm missing something? Didn't the terror/fear start in 2000? Anyhoo, Mr. and Mrs. Obama get my vote; all of the others are either out of their minds (Kucinich, Gravel), out to lunch (Richardson) or completely out of touch (Hillary, Edwards). Biden is a boob but his ideas on how to leave Iraq are at least not without realism and merit. Whoever thinks that Obama as a first term Senator isn't up to snuff to the likes of George W. Douche has feasted far too long on the very fear that Obama's wife was referring to. But okay, throw your vote away in the primary (on Boob the magic elf-boy: Kucinich), get Hillarity in for the big show, lose or win. If it's a win maybe Hillarity (Clinton #2) can screw the nation up even more that George W. (Bush #2) and pave the way for Jeb (Bush #3)! Now you're an American Idle! Whoopee!

Same here! I haven't had a good chemical vacation in 27 years, and that was a short one.

I'm surprised the right hasn't gone after Michelle yet. She has a very forceful personality, and Republicans hate that in women. I could see her becoming the next Hillary, in the sense of being utterly reviled by the right.

That said, I like her.

Man, you are soooo in the know and up-to-date...Am almost sure I saw that band
just recently at the SXSW festival here in Austin...as a "lead in band" for Willie N.

whoa, let's have a debate featuring the wives of the candidates. and throw clinton in just for good measure. but imagine bush and edwards debating. we could only win. oh yes, and throw in laura bush to see if she has anything??? has to be more than her spouse. i'm liking our not only our chances more and more but what the progressive candidates actually stand for. can we have assurances that once elected they won't fold and join corporate america.

No kidding! Look: if someone thinks "They are all the same" then they are not gonna even vote! There is a reason why voterturnout is so low in this country, it's because people claim all politicians are the same so they do nothing. Better not to follow the "everything sucks" crowd, and be a little more optomistic.

what tyree said.

I like Obama, basically, and enjoy his wife BUT she used fear in her speech about how she is tired of fear and of politicians using fear. She said something like we need to take advantage of this opportunity of having Barack as President for this opportunity won't come again. SO we are to FEAR that this is it. I just thought it was interesting how politicians, without thinking, automatically grab for the fear card in order to seek for votes. With that said, I would not mind it at all if Obama wins. He is smart. SO smart. And we need smart DESPERATELY, after 2 terms of DUMB. LOVE Elizabeth Edwards the best though. But she is not running for Preez. Her HANDSOME husband is not bad though. He'd do. :-)
