On his nationally syndicated radio show, Rush Limbaugh claimed that Democrats "want to get us out of Iraq, but they can't wait to get us into Darfur." He continued: "There are two reasons. What color is the skin of the people in Darfur? It's black. And who do the Democrats really need to keep voting for them? If they lose a significant percentage of this voting bloc, they're in trouble." A caller responded, "The black population," to which Limbaugh said, "Right."

Can't we just go ahead and skip the next year or so? The Republicans' stupidity always grows exponentially greater around election time, and I just don't think I can take it again this election season. All of a sudden I'm going to have to again get used to the mindless debates that come from all over the inane world of Republican bloviaters and I just don't have the patience for it in a race that so obviously is going to the Democrats. Can't we just go ahead and have the primaries now and call the Democrat the overall winner?

Call it "disgust fatigue" but there is little that Mr. Limbaugh could say at this point that would surprise me. He doesn't mind being called a racist because he takes that accusation to be proof that he is challenging the lib-rul "politically correct" orthodoxy. What does bother him, and his legions of mouthbreathing listeners, is when he is proven to be wrong. And this is just one of the hundreds, or thousands, of instances where he is wrong. Oh, and he is a racist as well, of that there is no doubt, no matter how many of his best friends are black.
Will a boycott of his sponsors make a difference? I don't know because I suspect that most of his advertisers are selling crap that I don't purchase anyway. So what is to be done?

There's always that assumption that all black Americans feel some inexplicable connection to African people that non-black people could never understand. By the same logic, all white Americans should be on the edge of their seats, dying to hear the latest news about the clashes of ethnic groups in eastern Europe.
I live in a neighborhood with the largest Somalian and Ethiopian refugee population in the United States, and I know there's a lot of tension between them and the black American population. Don't they all feel a strong bond to each other dating back to some time that all their ancestors were beating drums together?
If Rush took a look at the absolute nightmare people in Sudan are facing, and then thought about what Iraq was like BEFORE Bush & Co. decided to mess it up, he would see how much more urgent the situation in Darfur is compared to what Iraq was. I have tried to explain to people why myself and other black people really don't have a connection to Africa, mainly because we were not born there. Also, Africa is a continent, not a country. There are 58 countries in Africa I think, and thousands of ethnic groups within those countries. People that live next to each other may not even speak the same language or cultural traditions-- I am supposed to share a bond with them?
I care about Darfur because I hate to see people suffering. Likewise, I cared about Bosnia and I care about Iraq. Black people are not some homogenous group, but I don't need to tell you all that. :) By the way, I am black American, not African-American. I am from Chicago, not Africa.

I have listened to enough Beck, Limbaugh, Coulter, Malkin, and O'Reilly to realize that not a one of them do the slightest good with their rhetoric and outright lies. The lot of them are the right wing Republican propaganda department and quite frankly they don't deserve a single red cent of advert money from my watching them. You're forgetting the freedom to NOT listen to them. The First Amendment rights of every American end at the doorstep of the people who don't want to hear them. I didn't see anything racist in his statement. He just extrapolated that he believes the Democratic party is driven by racist elements. Uh, isn't that what someone who stands behind a party with a loud speaker does, speculate the evils that the "other" party is/may do?

Let me clarify something too.....not all rethugs are racists in the way that it is most commonly thought of, although their party does encompass the cross burning white sheet set. A lot of rethughs have no problem whatsoever with black people......so long as they "step and fetchit", act in a manner that amuses them (example, Michael Jordan), "stay in their place" (crammed into the ghetto and not coming out to our suburban and exburban neighborhoods), don't complain about things like being hassled for "walking while black", or otherwise expect to get a piece of the pie. But you know, they don't mind the fact that you are black......that's how they view themselves as "live and let live" and "tolerant".

Not that I'm aware of. A truthful statement from Limbaugh is rarer, and harder to locate than Bigfoot, the Loch Ness monster and Elvis put together.

The assumption that the Darfur crisis appeals more to black Americans than other groups is rather simplistic, and frankly, derived from an ignorance of the fact that Sudanese Africans and black Americans are two distinct groups of people.
Any person who is truly aware of what is happening in Darfur and happens to have a soul would want the genocide to end.
Having black skin doesn't make someone automatically understand the suffering of people in Darfur. Not all black people are in touch with all the things happening in all the countries of Africa, the same way I'm not aware of what's happening all the time in Yugoslavia or Sweden.
I'm sure having compassion for people in Sudan can make a politician look good (or HUMAN), and ignoring the genocide could be the result of racism, but it's a false assumption that black Americans have some inherent connection to this issue.

What South Africa are you talking about? I am from South Africa and I don't recall whites being slaughtered. The only whites who were slaughtered were those trying to put an end to what was going to be and eventually turned out to be free elections.
The AWB "army" marched into Bophutatswana guns blazing and got their butts kicked, and rightfully so. You most probably have white South African friends who are
telling you of all the horrors in South Africa. To be honest, and if they are honest, they left the country because they could not live a life of privilege anymore
