Fleischer blames Dems for Gonzales' mistakes
By Steve Benen Monday Aug 27, 2007 8:30amI'd almost forgotten how breathtakingly dishonest former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer can be. Yesterday, on Fox News, he blamed congressional Dems for "politicizing the Justice Department, unfairly so and dangerously so."
Faiz sets the record straight.
– It was Alberto Gonzales, not Congress, who fired attorneys for political reasons.
– It was Alberto Gonzales, not Congress, who gave the White House political team unprecedented power to intercede in the affairs of the Justice Department.
– It was Alberto Gonzales, not Congress, who allowed his department to illegally hire attorneys based in part on their loyalty to the Republican Party and the Bush administration.
– It was Alberto Gonzales, not Congress, who dissembled and misled about the administration’s spying activities.
– It was Alberto Gonzales, not Congress, who lied in stating that all Bush appointees would be Senate-confirmed.
It's been years since Fleischer embarrassed himself regularly to a national audience. Welcome back to the show, Ari.

The Dems made Alberto betray his country. Waaah!
He may well have "embarrassed" himself in your eyes, Steve, and quite possibly most of the eyes of those who frequent this site, but to him and his friends, it's been an "embarrassment" of riches.
He's a wealthy, well-connected guy with tremendous growth potential. Isn't that the "American Dream" personified?
Meanwhile, as far as replacing Alberto VO-Jive, there's really only one obvious candidate.
HAHAHAH! Typical response from the GOP (Grand Old Perverts)....their "MO" is "pervert the truth" at all cost! Fleischer is making a pure, unadulterated idiot of himself with these comments. Of course, what can one expect from one who is mentally compromised which most Repukes are these days. That's all that's left of that once-great party: Grand Old Perverts.....like Craig....like Foley....like Hastert.....and many more to yet be outed.
If anyone has children, we've all probably witnessed the "blame game" and this looks like another "the dog did it" to me. What a bunch of sickos.
What surprises me most, however, is that Fleisher didn't "blame clinton" for it....ahahahahah!
When will they nut it up and take responsibility..........for anything.....I've seen 8 year olds act more mature...to them this is just a game. And they write the rules as they go....
damn fleisher must be ready to burst having stored all that ignorance up inside for the past few years. once a lier always a lier .
i expect to see a flood of former administration bullshiters appear in the next few months. gotta pave the way for the bush co legacy in his waining months. either that or they know they have limited time left to f--k up the country some more.
What really makes me sick is how he talks with a straight face. Notice that he's alone - there's no counterr opinion. What he says is given as truth. It's key for these propagandists like Fleisher to be in controlled, unchallenged environments. It's there that they can manipulate and cloud the issue the most to take a problems with their bosses and turn it against those who are trying for postiive change.
Fleisher's a jerk.
Sounds like Ari misses his old job, and the limelight.
Snowjob will be gone soon. Ari partII?
veritas @ 6:
Now that rove has decided that Hillary is the Dem candidate the repigs have a chance of beating, they'll be treading lightly on any Clinton blaming for a while.
It's more likely they'll be trying to pin it on Obama and Edwards. They're the guys that rove has night sweats over these days.
veritas @ 6:
LOL!! Just wait. The "it's Clinton's fault" is the attack of last resort. There's a long list of obsfucational points on the RNC "talking points " yet to be advanced before the "last resort attack". Besides Ann Coulter hasn't had her stint on Matthews' forum yet.
So, is Ari Fleischer now the "new William Kristol"? The GOP Ron Poppeil propagandist dominating corporate television?
Big Dan @ 13:
Just one of many.
Pravda Ari has an excuse for everything. His propaganda catapult needs to go in the shop
Here's one for you:
What do you get when you cross Nazi Germany with the Soviet Union?
The United States of America.
Ari needs to go back to spending time with his family. He just doesn't repeat the GOP talking points as well as he once did.
i seriously hope there is a hell, because if there is there are a couple hundred thousand spots availiable in the eternal rape room.
What a fucking lying Bush asshole loyalist... he should be tried for treason. Can anyone confirm if he was a draft dodger, or why he never served in the military? Some patriot.
Oh Gawd, what a lying piece of shit.
I heard other 29%ers claim it was the dems fault. They are pathetic.
repugs love to steal, cheat, lie and kill, they see nothing wrong with it.
And let's not forget this asshole wrote a book filled with lies, called "Taking Heat", as if when HE was press secretary, there was any REAL press journalism going on... Yeah, sure... Ari had it REAL rough as press secretary... taking real TOUGH questions from the likes of Jeff Gannon.
Puh-leese.
Since this hack isn't with the administration anymore why does his opinion matter? At least Tony Snow or Fratto or Perino are currently employed and their words would carry more 'legitimacy'. But Ari is irrelevant. He cut and run.
Is Ari auditioning for Rove's old job? Take the Repugs faults, turn them around and project them onto the Dems?
New Canaan strikes again! The following people all live (or lived) in New Canaan, CT., my former hometown, which has fewer than 20,000 residens.
1) Ann Coulter
2) Paul (Jerry) Bremer
3) Ari Fleischer
4) George W. Bush's ex-brother-in-law
5) Lawrence Eagleburger
Must be something in the water.
Orwell's Illegitimate Son @ 2:
If that's the American Dream, perhaps it's time to change it. Getting wealthy, well-connected and having tremendous growth from lying and cheating your way to the top, at the same time being morrally bankrupt and a complete hypocrite... well, what an American dream, huh?! Ari's one more of those fools running the U.S. of A. into the ground. He's the American nightmare, as far as I'm concerned.
his actual point here, (aside from the lies about who is the lying pos here), is to say, Who will take these jobs if they get treated this way. never forget: there are repukes standing in line waiting to play toady to this boy president.
After this, I wouldn't be surpirsed if Bush hired Fleischer to be Attorney General. Seems like he would fit the role perfectly.
The Champ is out.
Just when we thought it was safe to go out again, Ari Fleischer crawls out from under his rock to once again impart pearls of stupidity on the american public. In olden days (i.e the '40s), these guys (Fleischer, McClellen, Snow, Perino) would be in country sanitoriums spewing their delusional thoughts to a rapt audience.
"I don't recall not remembering.." Alberto Gonzales
Oh gawd forbid a politically appointed office be politicized.
But then there's such a thing as balance, experience and impartiality.
But you can't expect a former drunk to say in balance (boosh).
If these goal post keep moving I'm gonna need Dramamine
Quite a change for the pants pissing Ari that went running to Federal Prosecutors to get a grant of immunity in the Plame case. Just another chickenhawk.
ari "armageddon" fleischer - back from the depths with a one-two punch of lies and venom, on the perfect platform - fux.
breakspear @ 22:
he's on fix, which is totally free of shame. no more need be said.
No, No, No......Ari actually meant: Alberto Gonzales (D).
Ari Fleischer is a bald headed stooge. Pay him no mind.
Who cares !? Just like Ted Nugent, Ari Fleischer is a has-been. He and the Nooge should crawl back into their holes.
The GOP corporate television tag team: William Kristol & Ari Fleischer (Freedom's Watch). Where is a LIBERAL like this on corporate television??? There ARE NONE!
Goebbels would be proud!
"I have lived the American Dream."
Which must mean the American Dream is to be a wholly unqualified legal schmuck whose career has consisted of kissing Junior's arse.
"My worst day as Attorney General was better than my father's best day."
I'm sure your father is proud to have the words 'incompetent,' 'corrupt,' and 'perjury' associated with his son.
Donald Trump says anytime these little weasels lie in public or print
they can and should be sued for LIABLE.
So stop crying about it and start sueing- Ari would be a great start--
So is he waving a pocket watch on a chain while he chants this insane bullshit? "You're getting sleepy... democrats did it allll.... you WILL believe meeeeeee....ignore the truth... facts are what we TELL you they arrreeeee.... "
It's always opposite day at The Whitehouse!
Ok, I'm sorry. I admit it-it was all my fault. I apologize to Gonzo, and I apologize to Shrub, and I apologize to the Grand Old Perverts party. *sigh* When will I ever learn?
I thought this Bush Floater had been broken-up with a plunger and flushed a long time ago. Now he bubbles back up to the surface.
Time to jiggle the handle and flush again.
So long Ari.
-GSD
Yeah Ari, and if it wasn't for cops then criminals wouldn't commit crimes.
The has-beens and the puppets have been summoned to make noise.
Its just the sound of a dying elephant.
They even made our latest puppet Nouri al-Maliki criticize the democrats and Congress. Who's next? John Ashcroft?
It will work and he will get away with it.
People have no idea that this government has been as bad as it has been.
The democrats wont harm this government.
The law wont touch this government.
Iraq wont harm this government.
A housing crisis or market crash might. But not if this government has Ari blame the democrats for it.
Would this be the same Ari Fleisher who is a card-carrying member of PNAC and one of Bush's "poodles"??
Airhead Ari's comments remind me of raising my children - when they did something wrong and didn't want to be blamed, they simply uttered: "the dog did it"...ahahaha! Fleischer is becoming another joke like the entire Bush cabal.
I was wondering when they'd start blaming Clinton for this. Obviously, he's to blame for everything, including 9/11, the corruption in the Gonzales Justice Department, global warming...
Ari is a pathetic joke, just like his former boss. What else did you expect?
When the "fickle finger of fate" begins to point in your direction, just blame the other side. Unfortunately, this only works with 3 year olds. Get a life, Airhead Ari and move on. This country doesn't appreciate the sycophantic, lying likes of people like you!
So, Michael Vick stands up takes full responsibiltiy for his actions, accepts that he erred horribly and that he is going to learn from his mistakes. And he is repsonsible for the death of numerous dogs.
The White House takes no responsibilty for anything and blames everyone and they are responsible for the death of at least hundrends of thousands of human beings, the destruction of civil liberties, and torture.
If I could I would vote Michael Vick for President, he knows how to lead.
asoudiere@hotmail.com @ 50:
Don't you love this final "feeding frenzy" and watching this group of thugs implode from within?? You are spot on with your comment about "blaming clinton". They've tried it but it's far too late for antics like that. The majority of americans realize and recognize that this group of sycophantic thugs needs to be relieved of their duties. They have no credibility left and are dropping like flies thinking that this will insulate them from criminal charges - not going to happen! In fact, this should speed up the criminal prosecutorial process.
It's just a matter of weeks until the impeachment cry for Bush and Cheney to be relieved of their duties is heard throughout the country. They've damaged this country enough and definitely do not need another year to inflict more damage. Simply put: they've tanked this country in every respect heretofore; another year of this level of ineptitude and corruption will mean the end of it all.
Matt Lauer pitched slow and thigh high over the middle of the plate to Ari this AM.
Carville was on as the liberal foil and Lauer actually played journalist interrupting Carville to say he hadn't answered the question. He hadn't - but then, unlike the ones to Ari, his were actual questions.
veritas @ 51:
I thought it was the "Flying Fickle Finger of Fate."
Canadian Andy @ 52:
Canadian Andy @ 52:
Bush Cabal's mantra has always been "blamegame" and not taking responsibility for their actions. Now that everyone under BushCheney has been outed and gone, Bush and Cheney become the next target of the citizens of this country. Their protective mantle of people around them has disappeared leaving them in full flagrantia now to be dismissed.

Why not call Gonzales what he is? A traitor... check this out: http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/082707R.shtml
He's not alone and it's time to take back the house...
Isn’t it great to see 'Flash Ari' back?
Flash Ari’s ‘lies, damn lies, and statistics'.
9/11 changed everything (tm)....we must blame the Dems for everything
~Reich-wing Motto
How is someone as famously dishonest as Ari Fleicher even quoted
on the national scene about anything?
This whole country is sinking under the weight of these liars.
I bet my next door neighbor is lapping this up. He only get's his news from Fox and then comes bounding out to my car (cornering me) to tell me how we libs are stupid, naive and off the mark.
Sunday night he blamed the Dems in congress for the lack of security on the borders and ports. I reminded him that we've only been in power of both houses for less than 1 year and his party had both houses for 6 years.
Oh and anything that says that Saddam had nothing to do with 9-11 is bias. I was too tired to argue back that even his president said it.
Clytemnestra @ 62:
I understand. The willful ignorance of Fox viewers/26%ers tends to drain the lifeforce from even the hardiest of specimens.
Of course it's the Dems fault! Don't forget to blame the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy.
I have a lot of anger at the Dems right now for being spineless, balless wonders. But PUH-leas, Ari knows that Torcher-Boy dug his own grave.
Ari your a friggin' hack.
Clytemnestra @ 62:
You have to feel a little sorry for them. There are SO many lies they can't keep up so they pick a few of the ones that are easiest to remember and go with that. They fold it away in the same pocket where religion resides. Believe this-no further thought required-dissenters are satan.
ss @ 40:
The Donald is correct but the Rethugs are one step ahead of him:
Frivolous lawsuit! Frivolous lawsuit!
You heard it on Fox, so it must be right
The Boosanistas are sraping the bottom of the barrel, looking for one more loyalist.Who can repeat,repeat,repeat....................what is wrong with these people?......nevermind.
Right. Gonzalez gave some of the most excrutiatingly embarrassing Congressional testimony ever recorded, and it's the Dem's fault. Gotcha.
Ari's just making his move on the ever-decreasing flow of wingnut welfare.
Ed Shultz radio show is broadcasting live, right now, on C-SPAN. Friday will be Thom Hartmann's turn.
Yeeeeeah. And the Dems made the incompetent, evil git rubber-stamp torture, too. I soooo wish that the "Gonzo" moniker wasn't in cant use. Totally stains my fond memories of The Muppet Show. Hunter Thompson, too--'speshly when the phrase "Fear and Loathing" springs to mind so easily...
Ari Fleischer? That peice of shit is still breathing, eating food and excreting?
theres no way they can spin this.....the next year+ will be frustating.Because they won't give up.We're going to hear so much bullshit that we're going to need a bulldozer to push it to the side.On a bright note the GOP will have a low turn out in the next election, simply because some of them will get sick and tired of hearing all the bullshit. All my freinds who are Repub's have been sick of it for awhile now. They say they won't vote repub this time and some even say they will vote Dem.Looks like all those conversations might payoff.
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales may have his announced his resignation, but his wrongdoing - and his words - live on. Here are:
"Alberto Gonzales' Greatest Hits."
It isn't the Dems fault....that's ludicrous......It's Rove and Booshs moms fault.....they must be sooooo proud......
Fleischer blames Dems for Gonzales’ mistakes
Gonzo: Ask me no questions and I'll tell you no lies.
mudshark @ 73:
- They already HAVE spun this and will continue to do so.
- They don't really care about voter turn out. They've got Diebold on their side.
I can't recall not remembering......say whaaaaaaaaaat......wow this one will go down in infamy..The next time I'm in a discussion with some repubs I'm going to use that one....just to see if they pick up on it........and soon as they say one word...I'm gonna blast them.....
MargeAggedon @ 77:
I see your point and do agree....but just because they spin it doesn't mean it'll work....perhaps I should of added "spin it successfully".....as for dieblold.....there is real reason for concern.....But what happens if their turnout is low but their vote count is up higher than their turnout.....I can see this happening......at anyrate.......all the repubs I know say they won't vote repub.
Urban Legend that I remember heariing from a credible source:Do you know the one about what Ari's father (Dem) said when he heard his son was going to work for Bush? "It could be worse...but not much."
all the more reason for a receipt for your vote.....I can't believe Sen Feinstein fell for this.......she will not be getting anymore votes from this house.....I hope Sen Boxer see this and does the right thing now and in the future.I received a letter from Sen Boxer stating that she was in favor of a receipt for your vote....but then again she stumped for Lieberman.......the next elections will be very interesting
Wonder why Ari Fleischer is making a comeback lately? Is he going to replace Tony Snow. Have the right wing "think tanks" found money for him? He is one of the most scurrilous lying weasels America has ever known.
How come all these ass holes are bald?
Is that the mark of Cain or something?
Piss off, Ari. I'd say you suck, but you're nothing
For all the talking that the wingers do about "personal responsibility" and "integrity" it seems almost funny that the first thing these slimy little jackpipes do is blame everything on the Democrats and anybody else who isn't drinking from the same deeply tainted kool-aid.
Ari Fleisher needs to take a flying fuck at a rolling donut
Please desist, once and for all, in linking the words "Fox" and "news." They do not present news; they present propaganda.
Orwell's Illegitimate Son @ 2:
Oh, the proverbial carrot! Oh, the misbegotten wealth! How much longer will capitalists continue to sing the praises of their oppressive, destructive economic behavior?! As long, I'm sure, as they get what they feel is their fair share of the pie.
Well, get a clue, people! The Corporate Megalomaniacs driving this NeoCon bus are most adept at nibbling up ever larger pieces of your pie. Google "Richistan" and see how they are distancing themselves from you and your increasingly meager incomes. How long will you continue to buy this myth?
I have a suspicion, want to hear it? You've bought the myth for far too long already. I shudder to think what we face in the coming two decades. It isn't going to be pretty.
Cracker's for Christ @ 67:
reicht
Slimeball Fleischer just spent $20,000,000 publicizing conservative lies. I want to know where that money came from!!
My guesses:
1. It came from me, via the IRS.
2. It came from Israel.
Paul @ 72:
Nor sure about breathing and eating, but definitely yes on #3.
mudshark @ 81:
DiFei is the wife of a war-profiteer and a pretend Dem. you will be well to rid yourself of her.
Biggus Diggus @ 82:
they have to bring fleischer back. I bet he's doing it for a considerable sum of money. what else would drive a repug who quit on bush 5 years ago? check his 2007 tax returns. I'll bet it's huge compared to 2006.
Republican Standard Operating Procedure:
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie."
History Quiz: Who said that originally?
Now that Karl Rove is gone, Ari Fleischer is the designated swiftboater for the Bush administration. It's swiftboat like tactic because the Whitehouse can't be held responsible for anything Fleischer says. Expect Fleischer to be doing a lot of shooting from the lip over the next 17 months.
Do you really think that Barbour Griffith & Rogers is representing Ayad Allawi in defiance of the Whitehouse? They are just another Whitehouse surrogate that can advocate a position that the Bush administration can't advocated publicly.
Even though Rove is gone, this new strategy has his fingerprints all over it. Notice how the media has started going to Ari Fleischer to ask questions that they should be asking the Whitehouse Press Secretary.

Ari must have missed David Brooks on last night's "New's Hour with Jim Lehrer" who said Al was "incompetent." In the same segment, Mark Shields clicked off the names of nine Republican senators who said it was time for Gonzo to go.;
w.smith @ 93:
Goebbels is credited with the quote, but it is believed that he was inspired by previous phylosophical works.
If Gonzales were such an angel, criticism of his tenure would just roll off his back, and he wouldn't feel a need to resign. As we all know, he's not been an angel, and I'm quite certain colleagues in his profession have turned him out. As a lawyer, he is not believable amongst his own kind. That's one way to ruin a lifetime's endeavour!!! No serious lawyer would ever listen to what he has to say now. Even for the thickest skinned, that's gotta hurt. Remember the ad in the WaPO (??) from his graduating class. Ouch!! Shame. Disgrace. Alberto Gonzales belog behind bars. I'd give him worse, but I am not an evil dictator. I still believe in the law (no matter how flawed it might be.)
Alright Ari, want to play the blame game? OK. I blame you for the deaths of 4000 US soldiers, 1000 US mercenaries, 60,000 plus Iraqis. Why? Because you stood at your podium day after day repeating the most vile and unconsionable lies to get support for what you knew to be criminal behavior.
So I'll take the rap for fredos career being shot when you beg forgiveness for your complicity in mass murder. OK?
96 MeMyselfAndI Says: Goebbels is credited with the quote...
DING! Correct.
It would seem that history repeats.
Hey Ari you lying SOB...please leave and never come back.
Well, Bush feels he is so almighty powerful in his public elected office as President.
Why doesn't Fleischer get GW to not accept Alberto's resignation. If the Presicent wanted to he could have denied the resignation and forced Gonzo into staying. Its called servatude.
Besides, Ari should see that if Alberto is Cut and Running then he is not loyal to George enough to be concern enough with....
GOD, Once and for all will you please get it straight....ROVE was a dirty tricks gutter politician who was absolutely WRONG on everything he predicted politically. He used some slimy tricks to get people in office but every time he offered advice he was wrong and the candidates lost. According to Rove the GOP should have swept congress in '06 because Dems were soft on terrorism. Every "soft on terror" Dem he pointed at to lose...won. Another pig with a tie.
People hate Ari Fleischer because he lied so much and every time he says anything. he lies and is hated all the more. Proving there still are some things money can't buy...like integrity.
