Who said anything about benchmarks?

Sometimes, these guys make it too easy. White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, yesterday, in his final appearance:

“No, benchmarks were something that Congress wanted to use as a metric. And we’re going to produce a report. But the fact is that the situation is bigger and more complex, and you need to look at the whole picture.”

Reality, as reported last week:

It was the White House and the Iraqi government, not Congress, that first proposed the benchmarks for Iraq that are now producing failing grades, a provenance that raises questions about why the administration is declaring now that the government’s performance is not the best measure of change.

The administration presented a to-do list and said, “Judge us in September on these points.” They’ve successfully completed three of the 18 tasks. In response, the new line is, “To-do lists are stupid.”

Steve Benen is a blog God.

The way these folks trip over themselves ,you would think that someone tied their shoes together....next November can't come quick enough...

I've come to believe that they can't tell the truth. It just isn't possible for them to do it. Something is missing in repugnacans, something that cuases most people to know when they are not telling the truth....Oh! It's called a conscience.

"We don't need no steen-king benchmarks!"

This is how the Bush administration defies parody.

Is everyone aware of the fact that Bush is going to announce tonight that we are staying in Iraq permanently?

You think this contradiction will be pointed out by any of the networks, or will they be too busy telling us about the little girl that may have been killed by her parents?

In case you have not heard, Tim Russert was told this directly by the White House today and said so on Chris Mathews.

We all knew that was the plan all along (a permanent presence) but i never thought Bush would state it flat out.

I've moved beyond anger to despair. What is it going to take to move America off the couch and into the streets? Like I said, I'm returning to the couch after having spent time in the street. Screw it! Perhaps when the jaded public can't afford to pay the electric bill anymore, they'll get up off their asses and do something.

LMAO

This is one of those "too bizarre to be fictional" episodes. In the misguided effort of spreading democracy across the globe, the current administration shows utter contempt for democracy at home.

Tony Snow looks bad...karma is a bitch, Tony.

You can find President Bush's November 2005 "National Strategy for Victory in Iraq" and other past Bush declarations that "we're making progress" at:
"The Iraq Document Center."

what?!? you mean Republicans are lying and their lies are putting more of our troops at risk? what a surprise...I know we should keep the discourse BUT I wonder if the wives tale is true the Lying give you cancer?

Strawberry @ 12:

Tony Snow looks bad...karma is a bitch, Tony.

I know...but I wasn't going to say it.

Goodbye Tony. Good health, Good Luck, and Good Night.

I hope Tony Snow gets better and returns to full health......just so he can experience the fallout from all this crap he contributed too.I want him to get a front row seat...real close to the jurors.

I think the size of a wedding is directionally proportional to the chances of marriage failure...

The more people the bride and groom individually want, the more they are saying to the other mate "Don't fuck this up, because all these people will get back at you!"...

Maybe it's a sign that this pairing my be unstable, and so there needs to be extra "reinforcements" seeked out in case things get rough...human nature I guess...

Call the Centcon Chief Falllon to testify before Congress,
NOW!

So I guess the shrub co. crime family figures they'll just keep the illegal occupation going indefinitely and hope no one looks up from the TV long enough to notice. So far so good.

benchmarks?

the United States Constitution is the ultimate benchmark of America. as citizens we pledge an oath to abide by and uphold this holy grail of democracy as the founding fathers set it up for us. and as citizens we are obligated to Honor and Protect our Constitution against the tyranny of all oppressors.

at this time in our history we find that our own commander-in-chief, bush, and his entire administration is that TYRANNY and in his own words part of the axis of evil terrorists. we must remove this cancer and the time is now.

IMPEACH BUSH AND CHENEY

History of the bush43 era will show that the WH lied whenever it suited their purpose. Don't these guys realize that there are such things as audio and video recordings of what they say? Doesn't seem so, or else they simply don't give a shit, as over the bush years, the average republican Joe and Jane have given most of the lies a full pass, and a large number of those who fancy themselves democrats have apparently been too beaten down by "stolen" elections to do more than put up a token resistance.

BTW, good riddance to tony snow. He has been one of the most effective press secretaries used by bush, likely because he was so glib about presenting bullshit, a skill honed, no doubt, by his time on Fox.

He presented himself as the consummate arrogant asshole - traits prized by bush and others in the WH. And he had no comparison when it came to spinning lies - except of course when he would contradict yesterday's lie today, with another lie :>).

"Benchmarks"? "We didn't say anything about Benchmarks, it was Congress, uh..... the democrats in Congress that did that"!

But we've always been at war with Eastasia!

bush plans to stay and you can bet unfortunately he will enter or try to enter iran and start a war. we can only hope that those nuclear missiles that were mishandled this last week, DO NOT end up in iran.

these bastards, bush and cheney must be removed from office now.

we CAN NOT WAIT for the 2008 elections, he will devastate the entire world.

The world's first global superpower (there is no one yet) must be bankers.

For trade calculations are so far the most efficient way of the world communicating. We are communicating via our personal preferences our own ideas. Each of us does this everytime we make contact with people, we exchange looks, physical stuff, ideas, etc...

So so far the only thing we got going for us communication by numbers...ok...got that part down...

Now we have to use more complex symbols...we should change having only one number (the dollar number). We should try to use another...maybe our sixth sense. It's definitely there in some people, and just because they are the minority NOW, doesn't mean that mind readers can't one day rule the world. They will...we are seeing this now. The more a person can "read the minds of others", the more they will manipulate to get what they want.

That is why the most powerful people in the world today are the ones who can manipulate others really well...

One day, when there is one ruler (there will be, there has to be eventually), that one person must make a choice which nobody has yet had to make. They must live for others or themselves, in totality. If we teach our kids that we must think of ourselves and not others, then the first leader will manipulate the world, because that's how they got there.

But if we think of others EQUALLY as our own, then the first ruler will really be a saviour of sorts...I think religion is a really really primitive forecasting method.

xoites defends Constitution @ 6:

I just hope that ALL he's announcing. I'm worried about Iran tonight.

George W. Bush is the Brittany Spears President:

Ooops I did it again.

History will remember the bush43 administration as the one that could not tell the truth, and that they would lie whenever it suited their purpose. They did this with impunity, because they could - there were only a very few people in politics or the MSM who were willing to call them on it. To a man, all members of the administration - cheney, rice, rumsfeld, gonzo, meiers, fleischer, rove, scooter, etc., etc., etc. - have been caught in flat-out lies, many of them resulting in significant numbers of dead people or in severe damage to our democracy Don't they realize that most of these lies have been recorded in one way or another? Even the democrats have pussy-footed around the situation, using every known euphemism there is for "lying", and even inventing a few more. What are they afraid of?

Good riddance to tony snow. He was one of the best liars ever to grace the podium as PS, a skill honed, no doubt, by his time at Fox. He also carried himself as a totally arrogant asshole right up to the end - therefore he fit right in with the administration. His days seem numbered, from the looks of him. Can't say that I will miss him.

"Benchmarks"? We didn't say anything about benchmarks - it was the Congress, uh..... the democrats in Congress, that brought up the concept of benchmarks.

So when does The Dickless Wonder start his speech?

Tony Snowjob can be forgiven for he's addled by his condition, so he's not thinking clearly. he knows what his boss and adminstration said, but he can only lie so many times. sorry, Tony, just leave already. get some money to 'fill up the coffers'.

Dadams,

MSNBC today or yesterday had an online poll with the question whether or not we should impeach Bush.

89% responded with yes.

I wonder if Dana Perino realizes her statement that "we sent in more (Surge) troops to hasten the day when we can bring troops home" is a contradiction since the only troops we are bringing home are the troops she said were the troops who were sent to hasten the day when we could send troops home. Did we send the Surge troops to Iraq just so we could hasten the day we would bring them home?

This benchmark is sad also:
Speed Report for www.crooksandliars.com

Benchmark (noun)

A mark left on a bench by a shit-scared Republican Congressman.

Whitehouse: "Benchmarks? We don't need no stupid benchmarks!"

Snow is such a lying fucking asshat.

Forget "benchmarks". That would mean hard numbers that the military would have to meet to justify the continuation of the war.

Not going to happen.

Call 'em "stretchmarks". That would give the hypocritical weasels the flexibility they need to perputuate their atrocities.

These are exactly the types of obvious lies and flip-flops that are important for history to know well, so that when future generations are making these mistakes (believing their government even while it's lying) they can point back to these examples and ignore them.

Colbert the other night said something like:

Tony Snow is leavinghis job at the White House because of financial reasons. Who can blame him? He can make twice as much money saying the exact same things on Fox News.

Way to go Tony... still not getting it right after all this time practicing to be a press secretary.
