But it's not, right?
Huh?
sooo ..., it's a ferocious feline beast?
but... but wait.... if Iraq were a HOMELESS kitten we would be home by now....????
I think the issue is that Iraq is a home for people and we are MAKING them totally homeless... after that then we go home.... no, I guess not because the OIL will still not be homeless....
Well, I was gonna make it say, "everytime someone votes Republican, God kills a kitten" but I thought we'd had enough religious posts on the site today.
If Iraq was a cute homeless kitten with oil, the troops would have been ordered to bomb the shit out of it and then set up permanent bases on it's flattened, twitching carcass .
Reinstate the draft and this generation will wake up.
Words are slippery things. The terms "Progressive" and "Conservative" have gone through considerable semantic metamorphoses through the course of history. And so, it is necessary to capture succinctly, and in popular format, the basic concepts those labels currently embody. To wit, I give you.................
The Top 10 Modern Differences Between Progressives and Conservatives
Number 10
• Progressives want to improve America for everyone.
• Conservatives believe America is #1; improvement is impossible by definition.
Number 9
• Progressives believe in facts.
• Conservatives believe that anything that does not explicitly favor them is biased against them.
Number 8
• Conservatives would rather die than have gay soldiers help win the wars they start.
• Progressives would let any qualified citizen serve in the military, but would rather not start wars.
Number 7
• Progressives manipulate language to elucidate their own opinions.
• Conservatives manipulate language to distort progressives' opinions.
Number 6
• Progressives dislike hypocrisy.
• Conservatives dislike Progressives' hypocrisy.
Number 5
• Progressives believe that protecting life means protecting people who are alive.
• Conservatives believe that protecting life means protecting people who are in hopeless vegetative states, microscopic cells, flags, virginity and ignorance.
Number 4
• Progressives criticize the media because they don't like how it behaves.
• Conservatives criticize the media because they don't like that it exists.
Number 3
• Progressives believe that everyone is entitled to the pursuit of happiness.
• Conservatives believe that everyone is entitled to the pursuit of happiness except women, minorities, gays, atheists, Muslims, pot smokers, immigrants, foreigners, the impoverished and the Clintons.
Number 2
• Conservatives believe that 9/11 "changed everything," so we must do anything not let the terrorists win.
• Progressives believe that convincing ourselves that 9/11 changed anything lets the terrorists win.
And, the Number 1 Modern Difference Between Progressives and Conservatives
• Progressives believe that "we are all in it together."
• Conservatives believe that "you are on your own."
The war in Iraq has now lasted longer than the U.S.'s involvement in World War II.
We have a rough road ahead of us.

Caturday is dead ;-;
If Iraq was a cute homeless kitten, it would be much easier to get the oil out.
> Caturday is dead ;-;
Yeah, but the new season of the Saturday Night starts 1 week from 26 minutes ago. :-)
iraqconcilable @ 6:
Doesn't it depend on the color of the kitten, though, iraqoncilable? If it's a non-white kitten, then for sure. White Texan kittens? Tax breaks. And you know Joe Lieberman has been saying those Persian kittens are goin' down.
L.A. Confidential @ 9:
So how do you tell when it ends. If our troops are going to be there for another 50 years like Korea, when does it stop being a war?
WAR
Iraq is a very angry country.
Now what do we do?
Carmikl @ 15:
When they give us a kitten.
Iraq could be a limbless Iraq war vet, but if there was oil inside him, this administration would order him torn to shreds!
Not a kitten? It's a pony, right? Everyone gets a pony!
If Iraq was a cute homeless kitten, the Australian troops would have eaten him.
(Australians don't like cats)
Curtilingus @ 20:
If they don't like cats, why would they eat them? :P
laserbeak @ 10:
I asked myself a version of that same question the other day, then I realized that I just didn't make the cut, and this is Hell.
miss_kitty @ 21:
BTW, I think they're delicious!
Ok so they don't eat them, they just like to kill them. I was trying to demonize them more than they are. Sorry.
What would you name the cute little kitten? Isaac or Ishamael?
If people understood every time that they fork a piece of meat into their mouth something has to die, then we would be a heck of a lot further along this beautiful journey we all have to make ;)
djr @ 25:
How do you know its not a "miss"?
Gekke @ 26:
That reminds me of the saying "Every time you masturbate, God kills a kitten." But that's probably not what you were referring to.
Carmikl @ 15:
Actually, if the right wingers have their way, it never ends.
I saw McCain the other day, jumping up and down like a little kid saying "We don't choose surrender"! What the fuck does that mean? Does it mean the USA will stay as long as it takes?
How long is that? 10 years? 20? Will the US stay there forever if they don't have a victory?
What the hell will victory look like?
Where are the soldiers going to come from?
Who's going to pay for it?
"We can't afford to lose". What the hell does that mean? Is the US going to cease to exist if they lose in Iraq?
Every goddamned GOP member likes to talk about how they always want to cut taxes, but this war is just a deferred tax increase. That's what they do, cut taxes, run up deficits, and let a Democrat clean up the mess!
Fuck this pisses me off!! I need to go wash my brain out with soap.........................
Curtilingus @ 27:
you don't know history I guess... and it's "Ishmael"... my typo apologies
If Iraq was a cute homeless kitten, the kitten would be responsible for 9/11.
Sure I do. Isaac's from the bible and Ishmael is the whale guy.

Ahhhh, an intelligent president...I'd do a wide stance and a tap shoe to have a guy like this back in the White House.
America is still here. Its buried underneath the rubble of 9/11. We just have to dig our way out, dust ourselves off, and get these pieces of shit off our lawn.
If Iraq was a cute homeless kitten, it's fleas would be consumed in civil war and sectarian violence, while an assortment of ticks and leeches assert claims of 'squatter's rights".

i wonder if anyone knows about the bush family's purchase of large tracts of land in south america...
what i read was that there is a u.s. military base in paraguay and the bushes have bought a lot of land (100,000 acres +/-) right next to it.
was that base built during the reagan or bush1 admins?
has this been planned for a long time? duh.
and of course the obvious--why would a retired president of the united states desire to own so much property in a foreign country?

i don't know too much about bashear but his running mate is a much loved doctor from eastern kentucky.
here's his wiki entry:

he has some pretty right wing views on a lot of issues. i don't agree with them but the people in perry co. love him and they are his constituants.
one thing he is remembered for is how he was attacked with a weird racial slur cast by jim (i used to just be stupid, now i'm stupid and senile) bunning---that dr. dan looked like one of saddam's sons. dr. dan's family came here from italy.
p.s. i first heard that bunning said dan m. looked like mohammed atta but the wiki article says sad ham. i didn't want to dig but i'm pretty sure i'm correct.

Karen @ 8:
I must say, I'm starting to really like this Karen person.
BTW: IMHO the quote in the picture in the threadstarter for this thread is parody of Firesign Theatre off of 'How Can You Be In Two Places At Once When You're Not Anywhere At All', the original line/billboard like: "Chanavely(sp?) Condos - If you lived here you'd be home by now"
> I must say, I’m starting to really like this Karen person.
What took you so long? :-)
Iraq as a cute homeless kitten
If Iraq was a cute homeless kitten, PETA would have a field day.
I completely agree with the premise of this site. That and TP and NH. But, the way in which this is being presented only hurts our cause. This only perpetuates the idea that we are non combative and pussy. It is distructive to our cause. Much like the MoveOn ad was distructive because it gave those idiots something to talk about other than the war. We need to not get to carried away because if we do we appear as nothing but hippies and that is not what we need to be striving for.
Not necessarily. The Bush Administration there would inevitably have catalyzed a concatenation of catastrophes that would require an endless commitment. By the way Miss Kitty I'm a cat person too. We must trade recipes.
> ... the MoveOn ad was distructive because it gave those idiots something to talk about other than the war. ...
Garbage. They were gonna try to distract from "the occupation" anyway. In fact, the Move On adv. as drawn attention to the occupation. Job well done Move On!!!! Keep up the excellent work.
I must agree with Stanley @71. Someone had to point out that the Emperor was buck naked and keep doing it. If it had not been the MoveOn ad they would have seized on some other person or organization to demonize.
ray @ 69:
Uhhh... what do you mean "We"!?!
And what do we need with the "knuckle-dragging, mouth-breather" vote, anyway?
Anyone who thinks "We "are non-combative and pussy is incapable of objective critical analysis, let alone any measure of independent thought. Therefore, the law of diminishing returns proves that there is no benefit to be gained by making an effort to accommodate their mental shortcomings.
Think about it, do we benefit more when an army of brain-dead morons support our candidates, or theirs...?
And as far as the moveon.org ad goes, the reason conservatives are freakin out and won't shut up about it, is because the truth hurts like a motherfucker!!
Peter @ 72, it's like what the wimpy Dems are so afraid of (which they shouldn't be.) They seem to think that if they take actual actions that the right-wing will attack them claiming that they're against the troops. But dear wimpy Dems, guess what. It doesn't matter what you do, the right-wing will claim (in a "straw man" type of attack) that you're against the troops. You may as well do the correct thing and let them whine.
Stanley Rosenthal @ 71:
Amen to that. Just like Eli Pariser said, had someone done the same thing and questioned Colin Powell's bs intel he brought to the UN the same way as MoveOn just did to Gen Petraeus, there wouldn't ever have been an Iraq war.
General Petraus, or in general, don't taze us broe!
And had anyone ran an ad questioning Colin Powell, the media and the reichwingers would have attacked them just the same as they are doing to MoveOn today. It wouldn't have been any different.
What makes Democrats look "non-combative and pussy" has nothing yo do with Republican spin and baseless accusations. It's when they claim to be powerless to act against the avalanche of legislation that systematically eliminate any shed of protection guaranteed us by the Constitution, because the are the minority party....
But when the Republicans are in the minority, the seem to have little trouble stopping whatever they want, whenever they want...
I'm sorry, I love this site, but it's this sort of vapid oversimplification of the issues that makes rational people not take the activist left seriously. If Iraq was a cloud, we would have already interpreted its image as paradise. so what? it's not.
Iraq is a mess, and there aren't any more easy answers. We're past that thanks to the assholes in power. Pretending that isn't the case, or that simply pulling out will fix the mistake of going in, is naive.
Sorry folks, but those are the facts. I don't know the way out, but what the hell does a cute kitten have to do with rational discourse?
Samuel, it's called "humor". Get a life that includes laughing.
Stanley Rosenthal @ 80:
ha! death and destruction! very funny.
Of course it's not, Samuel. But that doesn't mean that we shouldn't point out the death and destruction (especially since it seems the only WAY we can do that is through humor (and music, of course)!
Udon Nomee @ 78:
Too true.
The Republicans knew how to frame the debate to joe sixpacks and tina too busys. 3 word catch phrases. When they were the majority filibuster was the F-word, but today it's a long forgotted term to the Democrats, even as the Republicans are on track to triple the record for blocking bills from coming to the floor.
M.J. Rosenberg has their number and TPM Reader JE nails it right out of the park:
Hey this is my meme! I swear:
http://www.digg.com/offbeat_news/Sad_Cat_Discovered_With_Eyes_Spray_Pain...
Well, good luck finding the comment, but I said "Something tells me if Iraq was the land of the cats, the war would have been over long ago."
I just think it's sad how many people get upset over a blind cat, yet hardly give a crap about hundreds of thousands of people getting maimed and dying. It's just a sick facet of the human race, the way we're trapped in immediately, barely capable of looking at the bigger picture in matters.
BTW, I was just joking about it being my meme. I just think the thought of someone sitting around dreaming about how their memes are reproducing is kind of funny, because I must have been actually doing that in order to post these things. Hmmm....
"If Iraq were a cute homeless kitten, our troops would be home by now."
Unless, of course, michael vick is in charge.
So the war supporters can run ads on TEE VEE that claim Iraq attacked us on 9/11 and we need to stay in Iraq to win the fight so they can't attack us again, but republicans get upset over the moveon ad in a newspaper?
iraqconcilable @ 6:
WINNAR!! :D
I found this sort of interesting is that is sort of proof about what sheltered lives these bigoted talking heads and conservatives in general really live. Bill O'Reilly is apparently shocked that blacks are capable of owning a normal restaurant like everyone else. http://mediamatters.org/items/200709210007?f=h_latest
"If people understood every time that they fork a piece of meat into their mouth something has to die, then we would be a heck of a lot further along this beautiful journey we all have to make."
Every time you eat anything something has to die. Unless you eat rocks.
Matt G @ 84:
i think its sick and sad that you cant see that both things are horrible!
Lord of Karma @ 89:
Great link lord. made me laugh more than it got me angry. Also the image of Bill OReilly buying Al Sharpton lunch "because he's a really interesting guy and he's appeared on our show before."
Bill OReilly "and none of them (the blacks inside Sylvia's restaurant) were screaming, More Ice Tea Motherfucker!"
L.A. Confidential @ 7:
Only after 10 years and getting 50,000 of our troops killed in Iraq.
Here's a good refutation of the draft
http://www.agreeley.com/articles/120106.html
i voted for bill clinton , clinton was nothing but a republican in sheeps clothing just like his wife, clinton was put into office to rebuild americas finances ,to eliminate the national debt that the republicans had harnessed us with after yrs of nixon reagan and bush, it was all rigged so that chimpy could steal everything clinton built up in eight yrs , kind of like a saveings account for the rich, clintons nafta program that was sponsered by repigs was the sorryest thing he did to america , at the time ross pero said if nafta was passed the next sound you hear is a giant sucking sound of your jobs and factorys being sent to countrys where the labor forces work cheaper , and hillerys a chip off the old block , vote kucinich 08
tyree @ 90:
Yeah, both things are equally horrible. Right. This is how people think and why we're in Iraq right now! Most people value their pets more than the entire human race. Sad, but true.
Matt G @ 94:
i think you have to be able to chew gum and be able to walk at the same time ,try it sometime!
#86 - I agree with you! I have and am totally against this war and the Bush Administration. But I am sorry, I don't get the analogy....I wish people would stop
saying how wonderful we treat animals, and oh, so much better than we treat each other., because we treat neither ourselves nor other animals in any kind manner whatsoever. The very small percentage of animals that are treated kindly by humans are the lucky ones.
If Iraq was a kitten, we would call upon our allies to assist us in bombing the "kitten" day and night for over a year, before saying the "kitten" is a threat to our nation. Then we would have all the major MSM embed their cameras with our military as we shock and awe the "kitten" killing off all of the kitten's friends and family. Then we would invade the "kitten's" homeland, killing, raping, pillaging and arresting in order to get the "kitten's" catnip and other resources. Then we would arm the dogs in the neighborhood and blame the "kitten" for not meeting the objectives and goals we have given it in order for our troops to stop killing the "kitten's" friends and relatives. Then as the "kitten's" remaining living friends and relatives started firing back at us, we'll blame the entire thing on the canary that lives next door!!!
#95 - why is it that if you are concerned about how animals are treated you are considered a "nut"? I happen to care how all living beings are treated and do get very upset and demonstrate against DARFUR, SOUTH AFRICA (when only a handful of us showed up at the South African offices in New York to protest the existing apartheid policies - before celebrities got on board), Katrina Hurrricane., Iraq, global warming, etc. I am a SOCIAL WORKER, and help out shelters, etc.,etc., and belong to many organizations such as ACLU, Amnesty International, send money to "Doctors without Borders", etc.,... Why can't I cry for any living being that is mistreated, as I do...what's wrong with caring for any living being. Guess what? all animals are our relatives. Look it up all mammals have a common ancestor, including humans, ....traced back to a rodent type creature...
any asshole that would spray paint a kittens eyes and blind it for fun is the same kind of asshole that will vollenteer to go to iraq and torture humans just to get thier nuts off, americans are dumber then owlshit and a cruel bunch of human waste , not all of them but enough to see that thiers to many pricks that think an animals are here just for our pleasure or our depravity , watch animal plannet and observe how god damned cruel humans can be , i dont think thiers much difference in how you treat a helpless animal or how you mistreat people ,
#63 Stanley Rosenthal Says: > Dennis Kucinich will make a special guest appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno September 24th.
He seems to be our “one headlight” …
If only people would put their cell phones down and pay attention, that one light would shine bright enough to lead the way down the road.
It's more like buying a used car that turns out to be a lemon from a salesman who told you what a great deal it was...then this crook wants to help you fix this problem by sending you to his brother-in-law.
You can fool all the people some of the time...and some of the people all the time. But don't let this President fool you again...EVER!!!
"If Iraq were a cute homeless kitten, our troops would be home by now."
ummmm.... WTF does this mean? This analogy is so ambiguous that it could be read as an argument to KEEP US imperial occupation troops in Iraq forever or "as long as it takes" (ask the British imperial governments from 1916 to 1958 how long that was the last time round).
So Iraq is NOT a "cute homeless kitten", so that is why our troops are still occupying someone else's country...??? Unclear in the extreme.
Is Iraq a "cute homeless kitten" or a "broken crockpot at Pottery Barn" or... someone else's country?
If George Bush and Dick Cheney's kids had to serve on the front lines in Iraq our troops would be home by now....they would have never gone.
MoveOn.org asked (Note the question mark): - (Did/Does/Will) General Petraeus betray us?
It is a very simple question, and the answer depends on the reader's state of mind how to interpret it. It was not worth an uproar, except in the minds of those who wanted to create one. If you think he betrayed us, the answer is 'YES', if you think he didn't. the answer is 'NO', but I repeat: It was a question.
On 9/19/07 Chris Matthews on Hardball asked: Is Hillary Clinton corrupt? Has anyone commented on this besides me? Why did no one claim that Matthews called Hillary corrupt?
Why is no one - especially FoxNews - complaining about the 'Cavutos' daily?
Someone mentioned WW II, which came to an end - with all parties involved on friendly terms shortly thereafter.
If Bush's war ever comes to an end, there will be no peace, because there is no one to make peace with.
[...] gods even has the inclination to ask such a question I’ll be shocked. This picture from Crooks and Liars is more likely representative of what kinds of questions he’ll be [...]

This is not funny.
This slogan makes no sense. It strikes me as ludicrous and moronic. Let's argue for bringing the troops home without resorting to stupid things like this.
