Mitt Romney's campaign is running a contest asking people to create political ads using material found at his campaign website. Slate V took them up on the challenge, knocking one out of the park with their ad -- Five Brothers. (short advertisement at the beginning) Poor Mitt will never live this one down...

greater love hath no man then to sacrifice his life scraggling up votes for the old man!
Jesus Christ! The Osmonds are running for the White House!!
Classic sacrifices by the elite's of this country. And yes Mitt your are one of the elite's.
You vote for a Republican, you are voting for 4 more years of George Bush.
I think the message is lost half way through. There should be more images of our soldiers, like with a IED going off on one of their hummers while the looser is talking about pulling over so he can see the fireflies.
Romney and 5 looser children. I'd hate to see them get a bee sting on those country drives.
I wish this could be run all over Iowa. Tremendous
They listen to Romneys bullshit over here so that we don't have to. Those brave young boys.
All of the Republican candidates scare the SHIT out of me.
Am I alone in this? I feel like if any of these clowns become president, we are heading into a deep, dark chapter of American history... potentially sending us the way of the romans....
Romney was hoisted by his own petard.
Bravo!
Bootmaker to Bush and Fox jailed in US AP - Sat Sep 22, 12:10 AM ET
GUANAJUATO, Mexico - A bootmaker to world leaders, including President Bush and Vicente Fox, is in a Colorado jail, charged with money laundering and conspiring to illegally smuggle the skins of protected animals into the U.S. to provide exotic footwear for high-end clients.
Captain America @ 7:
No, you are not alone in feeling this way. Giuliani is the one that scares the shit out of me!
Captain America @ 7:
We Already are in the deep dark chapter, It makes me wonder just what it was that 'god' said to bush when he supposedly talked to him.
We are in the bowels of the darkness spread by the church's...
Captain America @ 7:
No you are not alone. I'm 62 and I can't remember anytime being like this and I hope another repug isn't elected. This country can not afford it.
Isn't it great to see these youg men devoting their lives to our great democracy.
Sarcasm!
GonzoD @ 10:
And naturally, he's the wingnut's favorite.
vickif @ 12:
True, I turn 70 in two weeks and I can't remember a worse time for our country ... and it has all happened on bush's (lower case intended) watch
Captain America @ 7:
Right on !! Scary, isn't it? You are not alone!! I have been thinking more and more about a decline , not just a "temporary down period". Too much money wasted, too many preventable deaths and injuries, and the long tem effect will be immeasureable and staggering to the reasonable mind!!
Why is everyone upset with the Dems for not being able to pass anything in the Senate. They have a minimal majority-- not to mention right-wing, jackass Lieberman--!! How can they get anything through if the Repugs votes no? The Repugs are still quick-stepping with Bush and Cheney!!
Apparently, this ad pretty much made itself.
I was expecting the damning material to mostly come from clever edits, but then Romney himself not once, but multiple times, equates what his sons are doing to a great sacrifice.
So, the Little Mitts, or are they the Mittlings, are just as narcissistic, vapid, and self-centered as their dad. Who'da thunk it?
I guess there's one big improvement. I don't see a giant doghouse on the roof of the campaign Winnebago.
A lady writer in my local newspaper said the difference in Europe and the USA is in Europe the politicians fear the people. Here the people fear the government
In Europe, the politicians fear the people.
In America, the politicians laugh at the people.
cybernaut @ 19:
we must change that soon
Captain America @ 7:
No, you are not alone. I am so thankful that we have the internets, so us like-minded folks can communicate.
Romney doesn't even have a passing acquaintance with moral fiber, Thompson is too lazy to even pander to the base (thank goodness), and Giuliani is less bright and just as conniving as Dubya.
What scares me is that more than the batshit 25% core crazies will vote for the clowns, just because they are Republicks. "I won't vote for a Democrat, but I'll vote for another authoritarian idiot, you betcha!"
Eww, vaguely creepy...
Cardinal @ 16:
Agreed, though what I am pissed about is that they are allowing the Republicks to frame everything, and letting them get away with the obstructionist bullshit without pushing it into the public eye.
They need to hire some really good Marketing people, and beat the GOoPers at their own damned game. I want a FIGHT, goddammit!
Band of wankers.
This definitely needed scenes of soldiers dealing with everyday misery of life in Iraq with a split screen of these morons talking about fireflies.
From those of us with slow connections, thankyou so much for providing Quicktime and Wmp versions of the clip.
Much appreciated!
Chilax, kids. Romney is doing the exact opposite of the Chiminator in 2000. W. ran on whole bullshit 'compassionate conservative' deal and went Neocon batshit crazy once he took the oath. Mitt is acting all social conservative, I-eat-Gitmo-prisoners-for-lunch to show the Dobson dick-sucking crowd how tough he is. I'll wager he'll go back to his real self either after he drops out, or, and I really don't want this to happen, when he becomes president.
I would like to see an ad repeatedly showing the scene with Romney saying "They have kids," (as if that's some big sacrifice for them to leave the kids), and alternate it with scenes of kids crying at soldiers' funerals, or kids hugging their daddies and mommies goodbye as they head out for their frickin' fourth or fifth tour in Iraq.
Awwww, look, all warm and fuzzy inside, they filmed fireflies on their campaign. Barf!
cybernaut @ 19:
Actually, this was a line in Sicko. Wonder which came first?
Maybe his sons can own and manage Mega-Gitmo when he's president....lol...president romney.....i slightly vomitted in my mouth.
This Machine Kills Fascists @ 24:
I agree with you about fighting the Repugs and out-smarting them at their own game! Hiring a marketing group of effective people too get their message out to the public loud and clear is a must!! Something has to be done and soon!!
When I see and listen to the Bushies/ Cheneyies regurgitate their messages of lies and deceptions over and over again, it nauseates me and then angers me!!
call me bloodthirsty, but I don't think this vid is 'all that'
Value for value. Forever.
Free sticker art:

I sure hope mitt wins...with all the sacrifices his brave, courageous, and loyal sons are putting on the line for him. Truly, this deserves to be shown to all of America so they can see just what our repug neocons are sacrificing for our country. I am so proud of them!!
Honest to God, these repugs have no shame!!!!

I think Mitt's boys are very courageous. It's not every man who would take so much time off from work, leaving his wife and family to live off his family's wealth, to take to the road with his brothers visiting odd tourist attractions, hitting the driving range, attending cookout and beer socials, having their lives constantly archived on film, just to offer support to their father's campaign for president. Their sacrifice is noble. Others shed blood, but these boys shed their corporate attire. They have to piss and shit in a tiny, cramped RV toilet for chrissakes!
Brittney has her whiney boi fan, but who's going to cry for Mitt's boys? WHO?
worth
Bangkok-Bob @ 11:
Ya, bout God talking to Bush.
God is love and Satan is a deceiver who does a pretty good imitation of the Creator.
That is unless it was just W with the shakes after a binge.
wich the douchbag or bill mahers
jesus every bodys scared shitless ,
saturday night live still blows chunks~
Romney calling in the boys..."here pussy pussy pussy pussy pussy".
tyree, you drinkin' again?
"Poor Mitt"? You have to be kidding.
Romney is a Fraud.
That was so white bread I almost threw up. Wait a minute I talked to soon. Excuse me.
(_(_) @ 45:
are you>
the romneys are so vacuous, they'll miss the satire of this ad and pick it to win.
tyree @ 48:
sen d me a big pepsi coler
We dont need no stinkin War Bonds, we got a trust fund!
Democrats back off of anything that Repugs and their MSM minions jump out in front of and frame with their vapid talking points . Yet MoveOn.org's support has skyrocketed since their Petraus ad . The moral ? If the Dems haven't the balls to communicate the majority's wishes, then the majority should communicate the message themselves .
Discussion at the Romney campaign " Hmm - Maybe that wasn't such a good idea after all" - SHUT IT DOWN NOW!!!!!!!!!
Now about that little matter of Romney's election sidekick Cofer Black (heads on spikes, flies on their eyeballs Cofer Black)...Blackwater at your cervix, suh!
Whatever happened to the good Ol' USA?
Wow, down the tubes , lead by a gang of escapees from a mental ward.
Wake up America!
tyree @ 50:
tyree, you're so touching, so real, so goddam smart!
Perfect. The message was perfectly delivered. Mitt's boys are off sacrificing themselves for their country. They have to see the world's biggest catfish and ball of twine, play golf with dad, see the lightning bugs at sunset.....
How many of our soldiers in Iraq dream of lightning bugs when they finally fall alseep? How many of them pray that they will be able to see them again one day?
I guess it's ironic that at a time when logic is lost on the airwaves, the internet appears in society to connect people that still can think for themselves. It's saddening and maddening to listen to Republicans... we're rapidly approaching a cliff, and whether or not we descend into the abyss will depend on who gets into power in 2008. Not to mention the slow motion nuclear war known as "global warming"...
War without end... ideological one liners about terrorists... putting God into government... has anyone noticed what country has been the greatest threat to world peace? Us. The good ole USA. The democrats have continued to let me down, enabling and re-enabling this wretched war. A death spiral. We're in the midst of war insanity, with a president out of control. Our media has betrayed democracy. Our general has betrayed the country for politics. Debate is dead. Rhetoric is king. News is entertainment. Up is down and slavery is freedom. We are in a spiral, desperate for unfettered leadership to light the way back to the surface.
Where are our leaders? Where are the inspiring talkers, who could stand before a crowd and make people excited about a vision for the future? Can people be inspired any more? Can that flutter in your stomach be churned by a politician any more? Everything is parsed. Everything is tried and tested. Answers are not direct. Yes or no? Not any more. Politics is money, and the US government is a source of tremendous wealth for relatively a small number of individuals in this world. The government and its employees operate for the sake of themselves. There is so much potential for improvement in peoples' lives. For health care. For education. For families. We must work longer hours. We must commute farther, longer, more days per week. We have set our own rules, but we can escape them, change them, better them. We can change where our boat is heading. It takes caring about the future. Looking at the bigger picture. We are but a blink in time that will one day be studied, and perhaps either cursed or revered.
Ha..lol..i will be the hissy fit for the Romney boys, hope y'all like it:
leave mitt sons alone. don't you know how difficult it is for his sons to leave behind everything that they held dear and go onto the road. don't you know what it have been like for the married sons to not come home to their wife and children because they have to be out there campaigning for their father? all you liberal are a bunch of hypocrite. all you care about is if mitt sons is going over to Iraq instead of focusing on their scarifies. what about mitt sons family. did you know that many of mitt sons have children who are under the age of ten? did y'all. i bet you don't because you are a bunch of losers who don't know nothing about campaigning.
you liberal don't know how awful it is to not known when your father is coming home or even if he will show up at your play because he is out there campaigning for his father presidency. all you can do is ask, when are you going to Iraq if your father become president and extended the surge for more years to come. will, i can tell you where they be going. home. to their family. after grandpa wins the presidency. you liberal don't know what it is like to campaign for their father presidency. that is very dangerous work.
you have to have long drive on the road without any good Hilton hotel to stay in, and they have to sleep in those awful cheap motel 6. motel 6. do you know how awful it is for someone of that power and wealth to stay at a motel 6 while they live in mansions. do y'all? leave them alone. (cry endlessly) if...you...want to go through them you have to go through me first...it isn't like you can all volunteer for your father campaign, unlike the army an all volunteer military...so be quiet....
you know what it is like to see fireflies and not share it with your family? playing golf without your wife by your side. living in a trailer traveling Iowa while your family are at home in their mcmansion? do y'all?
F*cking brilliant. EVERY political campaign balloon deserves this sort of pin. Let truth reign.
boxerfan,
You almost had me fooled. Your impression was spot on. ;)
"Romney was hoisted by his own petard"
:) how droll
Band of Brats. Ugh.
Romney is worth $250 million. He's the wealthiest presidential candidate in US history, with the exception of Ross Perot.
It would be useful to know how much Romney is paying his sons to campaign for him. Or, if they aren't being paid, how much income they get from their trust funds while they are giving their Dad a freebie.
Like a previous poster, add a few real clips of real soldiers fighting in Iraq here and there and then I'll be hearing the "home run" crack of the bat. Just absolutely loved this one!!!
In 1994, when Mitt ran for the Senate, his lovely wife told the tragic story of how hard times were during the Harvard Bus School days. Back then you see, they had to sell stock to live!
holy crap! *sniff*... the few...the proud...the romney kids.
kinda chokes me up.
anyone else get that bile taste in their mouth too from this?
The arrogance of the rich never ceases to amaze us.
VICTORRY!
Romney looks better and better prospect to be the next President of the US!
Such noble sacrifices his sons have made. The men and women in Iraq should look at these fine young men and just try harder!
And those complaining that they should enlist - well they are just TOO IMPORTANT to fight in Iraq. They are needed more in the US fighting for their father's campaign!!!
They are family men, good christians and most important of all - white heterosexual Republicans!
Mitt Romney has my vote.
Gotta go - tooth fairy is coming tonight and i am hoping for a whole dollar!!!!
Yey!
Hey! I wouldn't want to be in their shoes. They had to go to Iowa (and maybe some other dangerous states, like
where Jena isthe South.)republicansscareme @ 68:
Nope, it doesn't. (Imagine sending your sons where there are bugs!)
How do we send this to the troops in Iraq??
crazylove @ 44:
Too funny!!! You certainly have a way with words! Love it!!
The unmitigated arrogance -- not to mention cluelessness. If it were not so tragic, it would be hilarious.
Makes me want to smash a pumpkin into their whitened smiles.
The Romneys of this country think that joining the Army is something folks too stupid to work at Walmart do for a living.
So, the soldier's uneviable fate becomes their "choice," and therefore nothing for the Romneys to feel guilty about if their choice is to remain safely behind flopped in Dad's campaign bus watching the fireflies.
Hillary scares me far more than Ron Paul or Mike Huckabee any day.
That was hilarious!!
Awesome even without any mention of their Mormon holy underwear.
Bangkok-Bob @ 15:
True, I turn 70 in two weeks and I can't remember a worse time for our country ... and it has all happened on bush's (lower case intended) watch
It has happened for about a whole century now. I strongly suggest to go to Arthur Silber´s blog and read his essays. He writes:
September 20, 2007
A Nation on the Edge of the Final Descent (I): Glimpses of the Horrors to Come
I. The Current Crisis in Historical Context
Because my title refers to "the final descent" of the United States, I must begin by emphasizing an issue I have discussed in many essays. The destruction of the basic political structure of this country has been a continuing project for well over a century. That destruction has been the purpose of both the Republican and Democratic parties, and it reveals itself in two major ways: through a foreign policy of aggressive, non-defensive interventionism overseas, and by means of an increasingly powerful and intrusive government domestically. It is crucial to see the interconnectedness of these two aspects of the authoritarian, corporatist war state. When states make war, they accrue ever greater powers. Those powers are initially justified by appeals to external threats, which threats are almost always exaggerated and often entirely fictitious. Once the state has acquired those powers, it is a simple matter to alter their focus, and to direct them against alleged internal threats. The purpose in both spheres is always the same: to reduce and eventually eliminate challenges to the exercise of state power, whether such challenges are presented by foreign nations or by domestic dissenters. The ultimate goal is absolute power wielded by an omnipotent state. (emphasis added)

Laugh all you want...but it isn't easy on these guys. I heard Greg was given a cheeseburger in OilCan PA after explicitly telling the waitress...no cheese as he is dieting and doing some modelling later this month.

And if Josh gets another papercut opening a milk carton...he's out of there!
Maybe instead of stopping in the middle of the night to take a piss on the side of the road and then gawking at the freaking fireflies in a farm field, The Romney Brothers should have driven over instead to the building site of the The Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum and used their restrooms. Once there they could donated some weeks of sweat labor and/or all of the remaining $1.6 million dollars needed to complete the building fund instead of wasting all that money on producing and paying to play those horrible Willard Mitt Romney running down the road ads.* While on the job site, they might be asked: "What you Romney boys never hear of The Sullivan Brothers? As in the "One family lost all of their sons when the five Sullivan brothers from Waterloo, Iowa were killed at Guadalcanal on the cruiser Juneau on November 11, 1942. When public sympathy swelled, the Navy ruled that brothers could not serve aboard the same vessel." Oh yeah, those Sullivan brothers.
Now why don't all you Romney* children lead that vast herd of cowardly chicken hawk offspring in paying heed to the instructions in this WWII recruiting poster www.nh.gov/ww2/ww33prt.html. So stop practicing your golf swings and start practicing your grenade tosses and join up. Ok, so you all can understand, I'll put it simply: Get your apparently whole and healthy bodies down to any United States Armed Forces recruitment office first thing tomorrow morning. When you get there, for god's sake do the right thing, for once in your pampered lives, enlist in the freaking armed forces and then after your 24 or more months armed forces deployment in Iraq or Afghanistan we can talk, either in person, or by medium if necessary, about how stupid you all felt in 2007.
*You know there is a campaign ad I keep waiting to see. It goes like this: There's that poor Willard Mitt Romney out road running when suddenly from out of nowhere Ron Paul appears right behind Willard Mitt Romney and goes "Beep Beep" and then speeds passes the coyote's corpse. Ah dreams.
I just re-listened to it. Amazing, clueless quote from Romney himself:
They are long days, and some days are longer than others, and you go from early in the morning, to late at night.
Mitt, mitt, mitt, mitt. You are DESCRIBING THE AVERAGE WORKING AMERICAN'S DAILY EXPERIENCE, you self-centered, vapid asshole.
Should Romney win the nomination, this ad should be part of the Democratic arsenal.
Add to this the not too subtle reminder in Bible Belt ads that he's Mormon...
After Cleland and Kerry - it's time to give back what we got.
Otay @ 20:
Probably because they've hung, shot or guillatined a few in their long, long history. This will change when america grows up to adulthood.
Another great sacrifice the mitney boys are making:
every day they spend bravely on the road for Dad is one less day
being able to be spent procreating more Mormon babies.
Now, THATS a sacrifice!!!
Dnurse
GonzoD @ 10:
He's the next Caligula.
Rick @ 88:
A combination of Caligula and Nero.
iraqconcilable @ 52:
Good point. Let's do it.
Another good point: Show kids crying as their parents go off to war. It makes cry just READING it, much less seeing it. The Romney's are a sick bunch of twisted fucking assholes.
I hadn't noticed before: the low-light military scope that the camera was looking through at the end of the clip was showing footage of fireflies. Classic!
The 5 Romney boys are the epitome of the young right wing wankers still supporting this war. Priviledged, smug, no fears about their own future, self indulgent, and having no intention of ever going to war. Chicken hawks in their purest form.
The video is genius, pure genius. Why is it that liberals seem to get more than their share of talent? Anyone notice how the Dixie Chicks, who drew so much flak for criticizing Bush's war, are going strong with great music and great sales? While the biggest miracle about Ted Nugent, who suffered no consequences for his sick threats to Senators Clinton and Obama, is that he had a concert in the first place?
Oh yeah, and I remember from Farenheit 911 a certain artist (to use the term loosely) who thought we should all just trust the President (to quote the term loosely) and support his war. Her name? Britney Spears.
I rest my case.
Did anyone else notice that the music at the beginning was basically the "Valhalla" leitmotif from Wagner's Ring? Usually when Hollywood and ad guys steal from classical music, they do it cluelessly. In this case I have to wonder-- anyone up on their Ring stories will know that Valhalla (the home of the Gods) and the Gods are completely destroyed in the end. Either the Slate people were being sly, or else they were extremely lucky with their choice of music.
5 young guys out on the road for months... away from their wives... hell, the gaydar beeps for a couple of them.
I think I'd redo that with the main theme of Brokeback Mountain.
Boy that makes me just want to go out an say "6 people who should be tortured, since they support it."
Oh this was hilarious! I loved it! Very brilliant. I love the golf thing. LOL. Now this should be aired in all the top primary states if possible.
Ken Smith @ 25:
Band of wanking Sears underwear models..
Excellent vid :D
The next time ANYONE tries to tell you how what wonderful, family-oriented people Mormons are, tell them this story:
In April, 2007, a thoughtful young man from Arizona was killed in action outside of Bagdad, along with seven of HIS BROTHERS (101st Airborne). It just so happens that this young man's mother is a Mormon and had several other sons with another Mormon (not the father of her FIRST BORN SON who died in Bagdad defending "our freedoms.")
She spoke at the funeral because NO ONE ELSE from her side of the family was able to attend because another of her FIVE SONS was returning from his church "mission" and they "ALREADY HAD PLANNED A FAMILY REUNION" for the same day as the funeral!!! These boys were the HALF-BROTHERS of the soldier who died and they couldn't even attend. Not a one of them ever spent a day in the Armed Services either!
I live in Arizona and can tell you dozens of other true stories about who these people (Mormons) really are. They ARE NOT what they claim to be.
The spot sucked. Sarcasm is not enough. Young men and women are dying in Iraq while these 5 george bush wanna bees are still sucking at the teet of their father. WE NEED A DRAFT.
Oh my....what a foolish and useless bunch of guys(that's dad, too
Interesting contrast with tonight's first episode of Ken Burns's new documentary, 'The War', where it was mentioned that FDR's eldest son, James, was 2nd in command of a US Marine commando unit fighting behind enemy lines on Guadalcanal.
So ...Romney is all for fightin "This War On Terrrrrrr".....just as long as his boys don't have to go.So it's ok for us to send ours .....but it isn't ok for his boys to go......Thats what I call repug courage.
So much sacrifice so little time. Where do I throw up?
I'm a Republican and Romney's statement that his sons are serving the country by helping him get elected is an insult to every combat veteran who has ever served
Can Rommey's five sons and Rommey himself answer the most important question of the 2008 Election?
Did you vote for (twice) and support George W. Bush over the past seven years?
Anyone who answers yes to that question has shown such abysmal lack of intelligence and moral fabric that they are automatically disqualified from being our President or the sons of a President. No other question needs to be asked. The answers of such a person to any other question are automatically tainted by the underlyimg knowledge that this person is just not too bright.
"Priviledged, smug, no fears about their own future, self indulgent, and having no intention of ever going to war. Chicken hawks in their purest form."
My sentiments exactly! Well said.
