Though he has far more class than to say so explicitly, I suspect that Bill Moyers was upset by Rush Limbaugh's statement that any troop member advocating withdrawal was a "phony soldier". He looks at the seven soldiers who penned the op-ed in the NY Times questioning why remain in Iraq and the tragic price three have paid.

Funny, none of them look remotely phony to me, Rush...

frist!!!!!

Hell, don't feel so bad. I just came from a liberal website and read some comments from some so called granola munching hippies that felt we had to stay in Iraq to prevent genocide....we broke it we own it. I had to leave before I went all Strawberry on 'em.

Moyer always speaks of our better selves. He addresses us all as if we are intelligent and compassionate human beings. Rush calls out the basest of human emotions - resentment. He thrives on calling out the worst of our humanity. Moyers had been demonized and riduculed by those who follow Rush.
However, I suspect they are far fewer than Rush would have us believe.
What a terrible little man he is. I often think that the mark of our humanity is our ability to feel empathy and express repentance.
Rush simply does not have the ability to feel empathy, nor the ability to every express repentance. George Bush does not seem to have either ability either. What does that say about us - the people.?

Not to mention PAT TILLMAN.Did I just mention PAT TILLMAN, well may George be haunted by his memory till he goes completly insane and may George never find peace!

Bob Ceska wrote a very good story about the difference between WWII and Bush's War. While he doesn't mention Rush by name, he does point out the other members of Rush's ilk:

"Warshington"??

I like Moyers but this bugs the shit out of me.

Limbaugh clearly was referring to people he says call up impersonating soldiers to give their anti-war comments some credibility. I.E. they are phony as in not real soldiers. phony, fake, false... It's so clear when you hear the tape or read the transcript that he didn't call real soldiers phony if they were against the war. I can't believe you people are trying to make this stick. MSM no its a reach, which is why they won't touch it, not because they have love for Limbaugh. I'm sick of these lame disingenious rants from the left on this issue. get over this. Like he's gonna give an inch. Please, the fatman with the 4-F card is loving the extra attention and would just as soon become Teddy Kennedy's caddy at Pebble Beach than do what you wall want, which i guess must be an apology. Move on already.

I would like to hear more about the rollover accident that killed five servicemen.

No. It's quite clear if you listen to the radio conversation that Rush is referring not to people who "call up" but to people on television, like Jon Soltz and Paul Hackett, former soldiers from Iraq who have spoken out as pundits and politicians against the war. You didn't listen to the broadcast at all if you think Rush was referring to a caller.

“They like to pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and spout to the media,” the caller said.

“The phony soldiers,” Limbaugh said.

The caller indicates himself in his sixth word that he is referring to actual "soldiers." Limbaugh calls them "phony."

Rush's Limpbough is so full of shit.

Thats crap, you ever try to call in to Limbaughs show? If you do happen to wade through the many filter people you can bet that the first word you udder that is not pro NeoCon you will be cut off and slandered.

phoney soldiers stand under "Mission Accomplished" banners when the real war hasn't even begun yet

you are all soooo wrong. totally missing the boat on this. Just hearing what you want to hear. And no, I'm not a Limbaugh fan, he's a total douche chickenhawk. I'm just not walking lockstep on this one. sorry. He wasn't referring to uniformed personal, which is why this will go nowhere despite your best intentions. and I have heard the full transcripts. read them too.

(sniff sniff)......I believe that I smell something........a big fat chickenhawk piece of shit getting roasted all the way across TWO continents.

Between this, and Bill Moyers FINALLY shining the light of day into the war profiteering that has been robbing the treasury blind these last 6 years, I'm actually excited enough to engage in an act heartily encouraged by Jocelyn Elders.

V V

...none of them look remotely phony to me, Rush…

Moyers nails it perfectly as usual. I was just hopeing that he had used the above line somewhere toward the end of the segment.

Rush's Limpbough BS'ed all of his listeners after this scandal broke, and played a doctored recording on air of the conversation to make it seem like he was saying something different than what he really did, and Media Matters PWNED (yes I said pwned) his nasty pilonidal cyst covered ass!!

Limbaugh selectively edited "phony soldiers" clip, claimed it was "the entire transcript"
Summary: In response to Media Matters' documentation of his recent description of service members who advocate U.S. withdrawal from Iraq as "phony soldiers," Rush Limbaugh claimed that he had not been talking "about the anti-war movement generally," but rather "about one soldier ... Jesse MacBeth." Limbaugh then purported to air the "entire" segment in question. In fact, the clip he aired omitted a full 1 minute and 35 seconds of discussion that occurred between Limbaugh's original "phony soldiers" comment and his subsequent reference to MacBeth.

So busted.
LMAO!!!!

mora shouldnt have even been back in country

hearing loss and they sent him back after 2 weeks?

4 tours of duty for the first seargent????? 4 fucking tours??

forget gitmo, our government is torturing our own men and women in uniform

el druggo can say what he wants, no one signs up for this...they didnt even do this to combat troops in korea or nam

its criminal, and bush and all his generals need to face the man and be sent to prison for crimes against humanity

wow step off the reservation and speak some hard truth and the brave, anonymous bloggers get personal. Ouch, that hurts. Like I said, I'm right, you are wrong. Limbaugh didn't refer to uniformed soldiers. I heard the media matters full transcripts.

no sir....its enuf of this spin

in the program where he attempts to defend himself, rush brings up murtha and beauchamp

murtha is a decorated veteran, beauchamp is still serving in iraq

beauchamp's stories have been vetted by the new republic, and the new republic stands by his stories

rush's only beef with murtha is that he disagrees with his politics...yet he clearly calls him a phony

the only true phony soldier that el druggo can talk about is macbeth....that is one...one....not plural

the fat, drug addled bastard hates the troops....but you cant stand to hear that

Only hate mongering, war profiteering, reich wing repugs are REAL anythings... the rest of the planet are considered "fringe" elements.

BUT HE DIDN'T CALL MURTHA A PHONY SOLDIER!!! I can't believe I'm doing Limbaugh's bidding. Just proof enough to myself that I am 100 percent right.

he has repeatedly attacked vets and men in uniform who have spoken out against the war

here he goes after paul hackett and max cleland

this is a pattern of his demeaning those vets and men in uniform who dont share his political views

And since Mahmud A. can't really say that publicly, because it's kinda "embarrassing" to be THAT peaceful when you live in the era with Bush being the leader of a very powerful nation run amok, his comment about Iran being "a peaceful, loving nation" should pretty much suffice and are, in my humble opinion, diplomatic enough. At least WE, the people, the Americans could kindly pass this pretty relevant revelation to our leaders in Congress. The alternative? We've been through that already. please, educate me

guess he didnt demean paul hacketts time in iraq or uniform either

didnt use the words "staff puke" didnt say that the only reason hackett went to iraq was to pad his political resume'

well...shmega dildos to you too

I don't know about the phony soldiers, but i know there are a lot of "phony" legs and arms out there now that had not yet been manufactured before we invaded Iraq.

ok....

rush uses the plural of soldiers to describe on soldier

to expand what he was talking about, he brings up the case of beauchamp (another real soldier, doing a real job in iraq) and murtha....and please dont tell me you didnt hear it...its there

so other than macbeth...who are the other phony soldiers rush is talking about?

biff @ 40:

BUT HE DIDN'T CALL MURTHA A PHONY SOLDIER!!! I can't believe I'm doing Limbaugh's bidding. Just proof enough to myself that I am 100 percent right.

no he did not call soldiers in uniform phony soldiers. He meant people who are impersonatin soldiers on radio shows, he was not referring to stolts or murtha or hackett. ok, you may not be a dittohead....but you sure as shit think like one

exactly where did you get the impression that when rush said "phony soldiers" he meant people who call into radio shows and lie about their service

was that from the caller before mike?

if that is true, then why did el druggo go out of his way to say he was talking about macbeth

if that is true why, after he played the clip did he go on to talk about murtha and beauchamp

if that is true, why did he spend the last election cycle demeaning the vets who were running as dems

i will say it again....el druggo has a history of demeaning and defaming those vets and men and women in uniform who do not agree with his or the repug philosophy

he literally spits on them

el druggo is no better than jane fonda

he should be charged with treason and sent right to gimo

Please. Just because you are shouting doesn't make you right. Everything you keep saying is a bunch of BS. Either you are INCREDIBLY ill-informed or you ARE indeed a dittohead. Rush's Limpbough did so call Murtha a phony soldier:

Rush expands 'phony soldier' roster: Rep. Murtha
Radio’s Rush Limbaugh, catching flak for his allusion to “phony soldiers’’ this week, insists he really was speaking of only one “genuine phony soldier’’ at the time.

Yet today, Limbaugh expanded his roster of “genuine phony soldiers’’ to include Rep. Jack Murtha, Pennsylvania Democrat, a retired Marine colonel, decorated and wounded veteran of the Vietnam War who served for 37 years and was awarded the Bronze Star. ...
http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/politics/blog/2007/09/rush_expands_...

LIMBAUGH: “"Save the -- keep the troops safe" or whatever. I -- it's not possible, intellectually, to follow these people.’’

CALLER: “no, it's not, and what's really funny is, they never talk to real soldiers. They like to pull these soldiers that come up out of the blue and talk to the media.’’

LIMBAUGH: “The phony soldiers.’’

CALLER: “The phony soldiers. If you talk to a real soldier, they are proud to serve. They want to be over in Iraq. They understand their sacrifice, and they're willing to sacrifice for their country.’’

LIMBAUGH: “They joined to be in Iraq.’’

Sort of like Murtha, who joined the Marines in 1952 and served for nearly four decades.

http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/politics/blog/2007/09/rush_expands_...

Rush not only was referring to any "soldiers that come up out of the blue and talk to the media." NOT "people who are impersonatin soldiers on radio shows" as biff keeps claiming, AND he did so include Murtha.

Any more idiotic things Biff wants to say that he is either lying or knows nothing about that we can so easily smack down?

he also included beauchamp, who the right has excoriated, yet is still serving in iraq, albeit without his laptop

The "phony soldiers" Rush was referring to was Jesse MacBeth who being the antiwar poster boy claimed to have commited atrocities along with his fellow soldiers in Iraqi but he later he admitted he LIED. Hell, don't feel so bad. I just came from a liberal website and read some comments from some so called granola munching hippies that felt we had to stay in Iraq to prevent genocide....we broke it we own it. I had to leave before I went all Strawberry on 'em.

Actually, I agree with this. We messed the place up. We should at least get the lights turned back on.

My sentiment is this country pretty much does whatever the hell it wants. We go and run roughshod over everything in our path leaving a mess for others to clean up. All, for our egos, greed and "interests". This country has a history of this arrogant behavior which is typical of rich Anglo-Saxon white males who are in power. Yes, I'm a white male and basically hate my race.

Look at all those neo-cons that have caused this disaster - old pasty white guys. Look at all the pro-Bush supporters at the ralleys - old pasty balding white guys. Look at all the Enrons of the world, the corporations who dump chemicals and belch CO2 and pollution into the environment for greed - all run by pasty white guys. Look back at how the white man has run roughshod over races throughout history for different reasons - land, riches, slavery, converting to Christianity, etc. We slaughtered the Indians. We've kidnapped people from other countries and brought them here as slaves.

We're the first biological weapons. Yes, just us invading other cultures throughout history has spread disease. As I recall it was a white male stewardess who brought AIDS to the US.

The cause of alot of the Earth's ills is aggresive white men or worst yet the passive aggresive rich ones who get others to do their dirty work. Bush typifies this. The world is George Bush's urinal. He can piss on it any way he wants.

My feeling is it's about time we start cleaning up the disasters we cause. The white man has done alot of damage. It's about time we clean up our act.

Yes, I know, it wasn't a white man who flew planes into the World Trade Center. But it was a white man who conspired with these people years before and used them as pawns to fight our other enemies. The white man just has to get into everyone's business. And it's all going to come back and haunt us.

Seven people write on the shortcomings of the war and half of them suddenly end up dead or severly wounded?

Maybe I'm just paranoid but...

Problem with this is that the Iraqi people flat want the US gone, no clean up our mess, no nothing but out of their country yesterday. We have fucked them over so bad that they hate the very sight of ALL Americans, no matter how noble their intentions might be. Think about it. How would you feel if the situation were reversed and your family had a few men and women killed, a couple of women raped, and a few more disappeared! We can't leave fast enough as far as most Iraqi's are concerned.

War is such a waste and such a crime. Any would be leader who can't learn this lesson should be shunned.

Right, because this would be the first time Rush and his ilk can be found disparaging anyone and calling on the patriotism of anyone that disagrees with his 'boss', GW.

If be honest about what?
If they lie about their service as MacBeth did, doesn't that do a disservice to our honest admirable soldiers?

I might agree with that, but you are talking about one apple when Rush's Limpbough was talking about oranges. It's off-topic. Rush's Limpbough called all "soldiers that come up out of the blue and talk to the media.’’ "phony soldiers," not just one soldier named MacBeth.

Anyone who himself admitted that he avoided the draft for a pilonidal cyst on his nasty chickenhawk a$$ has no right to call anyone a phony soldier.

Hey Chip I'm a balding,Pasty(?)White guy who spent who spent six hours at the peace fair yesterday but I take no offence. The boys you are after a the white is right crowd who are intellectually challenged They are the crowd who never grasped action reaction thing. My father was a racial bigot without any basis whom Father Bill asked "what are you going to do when you get to heaven and stand before Jesus and he's black?"(for the limbaugh lurkers he was born and raised in the middle east, duh)

Every inch of space devoted to the comments of Rush Limbaugh or Bill O'Reilly is wasted. These men don't care what you or I think, nor should we care what they think.

With 160,000 troops in Iraq, what are the odds that AFTER their opinion piece was published that 3 of the 7 servicemen who wrote it would be killed. If we were to extrapolate a 3 out of 7 death rate, we would be facing approximately something like 3000 deaths a month (based over the period of time since they wrote the opinion peice). It certainly seems to me that there should be an investigation as to why these guys seem to be dropping like flies. I'm not saying they are being fragged by their fellow soldiers, but I am suggesting that they have suddenly and as retaliation been targeted for duties that would increase the odds that they will die.

Limbaugh has a right to point fingers and criticize soldiers, afterall, he would have been a proud soldier if he just didn't have that ass cyst. Look how credible he's living his own personal life. How can these sheep listen to this hypocritical druggie chicken-hawk (ironic how many war mongerers haven't served a day in the military much less war time, ie. cheney), yet this asswipe can still talk as if he fought in uniform.

Given the fact that it took so long to find out how Tillman really died (at least the latest version), we should be at least a little suspicious of their deaths.

Hey, Biff... didn't Rush make a huge deal about Kerry's misspoken "If you don't stay in school, you end up in Iraq" comment???

Karma's a bitch, aint' it?

el druggo wasnt even honest about his draft dodging...he said he got a school deferrment...which was 2 lies in one, as he had flunked out of college

Seven people write on the shortcomings of the war and half of them suddenly end up dead or severly wounded?

Maybe I'm just paranoid but...

Murder is not the least of their crimes. Look at Pat Tilman. He also made similar comments before he was killed.

I am surprised that the different veteran associations dont gather and level the building Rush Limbaugh operates from. With their bare hands.

It's just his accent. He wasn't being "cute". I grew up in a part of the country where folks said "Warshington" for our nation's capitol and "warsh" for what you do with your clothes. And after you warsh them you wrench them out. >

Rush dodged Vietnam because of hemmoroids, for god's sake.
What does he know about soldiers?
Enough said.
