Chris Matthews: White House Pressured MSNBC To Tame Hardball
NOW he tells us...
Don't you just love these truth tellers in American journalism like Katie Couric and Chris Matthews who are suddenly here to complain that the Bush administration has manipulated Big Media like them, and they're not going to take it anymore? At least not now that George W. Bush and Congress have a record-low approval rating, and after 3,809 U.S. troops have died in Iraq.
Here is MSNBC "Hardball" host Matthews:
In front of an audience that included such notables as Alan Greenspan, Rep. Patrick Kennedy and Sen. Ted Kennedy, Matthews began his remarks by declaring that he wanted to "make some news" and he certainly didn't disappoint. After praising the drafters of the First Amendment for allowing him to make a living, he outlined what he said was the fundamental difference between the Bush and Clinton administrations.
The Clinton camp, he said, never put pressure on his bosses to silence him.
"Not so this crowd," he added, explaining that Bush White House officials -- especially those from Vice President Cheney's office -- called MSNBC brass to complain about the content of his show and attempted to influence its editorial content. "They will not silence me!" Matthews declared.
As Nicole wrote recently, Matthews' behavior is puzzling at times to say the least -- but even with his staunch opposition to the occupation of Iraq, it's really egregious that he hasn't talked openly about this up to this point. PERRSpectives looks at some of the glowing things that Tweety has said about these "thugs and criminals".

Saw this earlier on Attytood. Not surprising really.
Bush's weakness is Matthews' strength; tough guy for sure, Matthews is!
All journalists seem to be cowards.
Tame Hardball? I read that and spat up my Pepsi.
Tweety's just trying to get some liberal cred back after Jon Stewart made him his b@#ch.
Attytood is Will Bunch's blog. He's a columnist for the Philadelphia Inquirer. Good content but the shrill trolls are are well represented in the comments.
I posted this piece last year prior to the elections... Chris Matthews is a GOP Front Man
There is some written deconstruction of ad itself that is very telling from a professional communications standpoint but to hear Tweety sit here now and complain about pressure from a right-wing White House is some serious Kabuki Theater.
Tweety, the article just below this one proves you wrong.
We're now up to 3,813 dead...
although that number has probably gone up again already.
The only thing that is surging is the numbers of dead and wounded!
I'm more inclined to believe that he's envious of Olbermann's ratings.
Surely, no ones finds this surprising. They made an example out of Dan Rather when they got him fired.
I just saw this after following links from right-wing blogs and it scares me....
Michael O'Hanlon signs on as a foreign policy adviser for the Hillary campaign.
What??
if you feed and reward a dog, the dog will trust and be friendly to you
if you beat the dog, it will distrust you
matthews has had both experiences
he has focused on the rewards
Before Bush's poll numbers were down the toilet, Matthews gushed over Bush.
What a Hypocrite!!!!!!!
During the Libby trial this sort of stuff came out. I can't remember the exact order of the events but I think it was Timmy who said the white house sometimes called to complain about something they had aired or said. Now all of a sudden Chris wants to jump on the, Hey, look at Me, bandwagon. He's desperate for attention these days. He can't be another BillO and he's too stupid to be another Daily Show. Yesterday he had his wife on his own show to interview him about his book. It was unwatchable. I guess after The Daily Show ripped him, he felt the safest interview he could do was with his own wife.
liberalista @ 4:
you said IT
Blah, he's trying to sell his book. Nuff said.
The rats are always the first to abandon ship.
nirak @ 13:
Pretty much. Nice way to step up to the plate Tweety.
He needs to switch sides with a Clinton White House right around the corner.
"Follow the Money" as they say.
Just an FYI, Wolf on CNN covered the story in detail about Ciara Durkin (see a couple of posts down if you missed it) in detail on his Situation Room show this afternoon. So it's getting attention. Good!
i try to think how history professors 100 years from now will think back on this time
projecting myself into the future 100 years, here's what i see
most everyone, right and left, missed the point
the point being the planet and its well being
Yes, I was wondering when the MSM types would start shoving their excuses down our throats for sucking up to the GOP for all these years. I can't call Matthews a brave man for speaking his mind, because that shitbag should have been doing that LONG before now.
Did anyone else catch Matthew getting skewered on The Daily Show, about his crappy book? He seemed shocked when people found him ridiculous, surprised that no one played along when he was saying stupid things. Gasp, it is as if the talking heads believed their own hype! D'oh!
So whats his book titled.
A Season In Hell?
mojopo @ 22:
That was great! Possibly the most aggressive I've seen Jon Stewart get (except for maybe with McCain).
mojopo @ 22:
Boy, it was painful to watch! Usually, the host doesn't read the book, only the jacket cover, and then let's the author plug-away. Not Stewart. Very seldom do you see an author called out on how the actual premise of the book is bullshit.
To his credit, Stewart later acknowledged a little sanctimony ("That's what I drink.") in his interview but, still reiterated that the idea that living your life as a campaign is a horrible way to live.
Softball ... what a brave man standing up to the Bush admin this late in the game. Where the f%#k were you when it counted?
Weenie.
Plop . . . .
NEWARK, N.J. - Topps Meat Co. on Friday said it was closing its business, six days after it was forced to issue the second-largest beef recall in U.S. history and 67 years after it first opened its doors.
. . . . No more burgers for Chris at the MSNBC Cafeteria
Tim @ 26:
He was kissing ass
Don't be fooled the media is not suddenly acting like a real media ... They are simply shifting to the next set of propaganda talking points slated to force feed us Hillary as the next president.
The shift we are seeing in the media reflects this fact. Having bankrupted the people and destroyed our rights the global elite and the shadow government are now setting their sights set on the next round of horrific control mechanisms that will ensure their power and dominance .... combining Canada, Mexico, and the USA into the North American Union ... the have chosen Hillary because she presents a softer image that will initially pacify the people while secretly the continue there One World Government agenda.
Mathews is every bit a player and scam propagandist as he always was ... he is just being given new talking points which will throw us off because he's been on the other side for 6 years.
Decades ago I read John Dean's book, Blind Ambition. Written shortly after he had served time in a federal lock-up for his role in the Watergate scandal, Dean told of making the acquaintance of a mob boss. Swapping stories of why they were behind bars, the mob boss heard Dean out, and thereupon observed (something to the effect) that he must have been a King Kong brown-nose to have ingratiated himself with the president of the United States. In the book, Dean acknowledged the truth of that insight.
That's Matthews in a nutshell. Not Matthews the husband, father, friend, or dutiful son, mind you. For all anyone knows, he's a great guy across the board. But as a so called "journalist", he's an unabashed, transparent, opportunistic, King Kong brown-nose.
Either that, or he's totally deranged. And all the way to the bank, I might add.
Bush says US 'does not torture' AP - 23 minutes ago
23 minutes ago for what months now?
surgethis @ 29:
Yip. And no doubt she's been instructed that if any country fu*ks with the USA were going to wreak utter destruction on you.
Happy Days are here again!
"Truth" has interesting properties.
Who here respects anyone in MSM?
Yes, I know about Schuster and Olberman.
But all in MSM are subject to their corporate masters.
The Clinton camp, he said, never put pressure on his bosses to silence him.
All I can say is he must prefer the muzzle because he is doing his best against another Clinton in the WH.
But if he is serious and wants to tell the truth, I want him to ask the next repug pundit...Why, if as bush says, we don't torture, did that prisoner from Austrailia have to sign that agreement about his treatment prior to his release? He had to sign a statement that he wouldn't reveal how he was treated. Hmm did they not want us to know about all those fattening meals they got, lemon chicken I hear, or how about how nice the lazy boy recliner was when being "questioned?
VietVet8666 @ 34:
Gave up on the MSM the day we attacked Iraq.
Wait, wait.... Cheney's a fascist trying to control the media?!?!? The shock... the shock...
Chris Matthews is hoping to steal some of the magic that Keith Olberma brings to work everyday but that's not possible.
K.O. is authentic, he believes what he says and, unlike Matthews, will never be caught pandering to the wingnuts. Keith would rather die than stoop that low but Chris, on the other hand...
Is Hardball not tamed, then?
tweety is out to sell books. this revelation is nothing more than a headline grabber to sell books and line his pockets. if the administration would have tried to make him loose income, he sure as hell would have reacted in a more timely manor than he has on this issue. shocking news = book sales. integrity and character does not sell as briskly.
Poor little Tweety. I don't have no pity for that boy. Matthews' ship is slowly sinking.
He sees the wind blowing in another direction. I remember that Hardball got its start by bashing the Clintons and every Demo he could get on the program. I especially remember his slime-ball interview with Howard Dean during Dean's presidential campaign. An now Matthews is privately campaigning for the Clintons. He's doing the Beltway Two-step.
I think he's embarrassed about his legacy when he compares himself to Olbermann.
The first moon landing was in 1969.
The anti-war battles were perfected in the late 1960s.
So much was learned then.
Which has to be learned again.
Against enemies who have learned too.
Matthews needs to get over his man-love for Rudi.
Where were theyduring the run up to Bush's War? Where were they when Sy Hersch broke the torture stories? Where were they when it was revealed that Bush was ignoring FISA?
I'm a new junkie - I used to watch news three or four times a day and keep CNN on for background noise. Now, except for a half hour a day to find out if Bush has sent Congress home and declared himself El Supremo, I don't bother. If I'm bored, I'll watch Lehrer, but even he tries to give absurd positions 50% of the time.
I don't count Keith Olbermann as news - he's more op ed - and I rarely miss his show.
what was the point their asses where all slobbery from his french them and they needed to dry off
Hardball is something served up to libs
neocons get the softball version
Matthews does these stunts to sell books then goes back to "English Leather" "well sculpted" "Democrats aren't beefy" Larry Craigisms
on fox and fiends today with brian bullwinkle and the other guy that was in the fonz
were discussing chrissyboys appearence on the only news show that matters and
the conclusion was they were both liberals.......
surgethis @ 29:
I think that Canada (and maybe even Mexico) would be insulted at the suggestion that they would be part of the US. Even that catamite Harper is backing away from Bush and--more to the point--his own shameless impersonation of Bush's autocratic, gay-bashing, underhanded behaviors. Dearest and I were in Ottawa two years ago. There were concrete barricades around the US Embassy that obviously weren't there before. And the fact that they had to put them out in the street and (thereby choke off a lane) of traffic probably didn't endear us to the locals either. We'll be back in Ontario next summer; it'll be interesting to see if and how the local mood has changed.
Matthews is a sad tale. He started out as a decent guy, then success went to his head. He wants to be in the club soooo bad that he drools over anyone with the slightest bit of power. His treatment of Delay and Boehner made an informed person loose their lunch. He is only claiming to be a truth seeker now because the GOP has failen from grace and Olbermann has stolen the crowd. Guys like him have made a load of money during the last decade. They should say thanks and retire so that guys like Shuster and Olbermann can restore the art of journalism.
sundog @ 41:
What's next? Murrow? Bloody hell...
Anagram time!
Journalists =
No, just liars.
=D
Didn't they name a new fellatio technique after Tweety's obsession with bush? I think the position is called "Sunny Nobility."
Jeebus @ 11:
Hillary is ratcheting up the "I hate my base, and they can go to hell" rhetoric if this story about O'Hanlon turns out to be true.
When the left doesn't turn out in November 2008, I wonder who HRC will blame.
Tweety knows that the worm has turned.
The new fascists in the white house are ramping up for prison planet, corporate state dictatorship. It's looming folks!

and...: Bush Moves Toward Martial Law
In a stealth maneuver, President Bush has signed into law a provision which, according to Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont), will actually encourage the President to declare federal martial law (1). It does so by revising the Insurrection Act, a set of laws that limits the President's ability to deploy troops within the United States. The Insurrection Act (10 U.S.C.331 -335) has historically, along with the Posse Comitatus Act (18 U.S.C.1385), helped to enforce strict prohibitions on military involvement in domestic law enforcement. With one cloaked swipe of his pen, Bush is seeking to undo those prohibitions.
Public Law 109-364, or the "John Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2007" (H.R.5122)
Did anyone else watch the NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams? The first eight minutes (an eternity in televison news) was about Marion Jones' steroid use.
Then they did a minute, a lousy minute, on the shocking torture authorized the Justice Dept. after supposedly it had been stopped. This story is so horrific it should be getting 24/7 coverage. But it got a lousy minute.
The next story was a pure propaganda piece that presented Blackwater in a complimentary view. They highlighted Blackwater helping the Polish ambassador into a helicopter after his convoy was attacked. Then they interviewed a Blackwater soldier who said he welcomed regulation.
I'm sure Brian Williams got the same call from Dick Cheney that Chris Matthews describes. Evidently Brian Williams fears Cheney.

Matthews is a weird guy to be sure. But I don't think that's what we should take away from this story.
Since we now know for certain that Cheney tries to intimidate news organizations we must ask each if they've received the same call. Its a fair question.
Google: NATIONAL SECURITY PRESIDENTIAL DIRECTIVE/NSPD 51
They are ramping up for a national emergency! READ AS FALSE FLAG!!!
Too late, Chrissy. We've been able to see through your games for some time now. Especially since you had Ann Coulter on, which was the last time I watched an entire episode of 'Hardball'.
Wow. I missed the Coulter interview weirdness ("shame of Chris Matthews"). Holy crap, what pathetic "interview"! Hanging up on Elizabeth Edwards...
Will he be fired? I'm not even sure his viewers even give a shit about credibility anymore. I'm sure he thinks this helps his case after the Daily Show savaging, but it really doesn't. I can't seem him with much of a future, though I don't watch his show either.
But then again, that dipwad Tucker seemed to bounce back just fine. Crazy world.
Chemtrail Conversation w/bioweapons specialist
In a conversation I had with a young bio-weapons specialist in my taxi one day regarding chemtrails - the 20 year old informed me cautiously reminding me of his pledge to the US military of secrecy for national security purposes that de facto the spraying has been occuring (admittedly) and they have been spraying avian-flu and other bugs into the atmosphere as tests. Along with, he told me, an antidote for avian-flu for what in the future he claimed “was coming”. Sound like a pandemic coming our way sometime soon? I dare say, I hope not!

F*ck Tweety. He's a perfect example of why our nation is in such deep trouble.
A no-talent fool who thinks he's a genius because he's paid a lot of money to spew propaganda.
A real Moran.
whoa, here's an idea. since the major news venues were pressured or manipulated by the bush regime and they now are saying they were, then these same major news venues don't even have to over to the other side of the pendulum to report the news. they only have to report the truth, what's been there all along. they will never be forgiven for caving in, but by telling the truth in terms that the trailer park heartland can accept and understand, they will go a long ways in reestablishing their credibility.
if it's too late and it may very well be, and this country goes down, the "journalists" of this nation will carry the majority of the blame. the katie courics, the geraldos, the tweeties, those who knew better and chose to carry the water. they are to blame.
Loonie @ 39:
Listen to Kieth's Special Comments (Last I checked they were all still available at MSNBC) and see if you still think that is an open question.
no longer a proud american @ 63:
How about this: Since the democrats have acquiesced on the war funding and been impotent to stop Bush's vetoes and more importantly taken impeachment off the table - the house and senate may as well now be disbanded since they have essentially handed Bush and Cheney sceptres and crowns to rule as Kings here.
I've thought for some time that, perhaps, Matthews might be ill . . . maybe terminally. I don't know. I've just gotten that twinge of intuition. I sometimes think he's getting his last licks in while he can.
I don't know. Just a weird thought that's often struck me in the last year or so.
Pressured? Oh please Tweety, you trying to play The Victim Game is equally as ludicrous as your little Prince / Gordon Gecko act. Some men are incapable of self-evaluation and change. You are one of them. You're following the money now, just like you've followed it in the past. I will say this about you, you're one helluva salesman. Shitty journalist though.
We've turned into the ultimate service economy - nothing but fucking salesmen who can't build or produce any actual things of substance, they just hawk lousy ideas extremely loudly.
Matthews works for a government licensed and regulated medium, broadcast television. The First Amendment does little to protect his business or his speech. He cannot use profane language or the Bush government can fine him hundreds of thousands of dollars. His station used to have to give "equal time" to opposing political viewpoints, but that regulation has be rescinded due to the Australian Mr. Murdoch's bribing Senator Trent Lott.
If Matthews was a true "journalist", he would be working in print media, where the government cannot regulate his speech. But, he wants to "make a living", err, earn millions of dollars by just talking, so he won't, and most Americans won't write or read political opinion.
UnEasyOne @ 64:
OOPS! Brain fart! Confused Countdown and Hardball for a minute. Gotta get my head examined.
"How about this: Since the democrats have acquiesced on the war funding and been impotent to stop Bush’s vetoes and more importantly taken impeachment off the table - the house and senate may as well now be disbanded since they have essentially handed Bush and Cheney sceptres and crowns to rule as Kings here."
The medium is the message. first right wing radio took over the air waves and they perfected it to the point that middle america heard the sound bite messages and that was the only message they heard and they believed. They were so taken that they believed it when the sound bites discredited war hero kerry and built up duty shirker bush. they did the same to max cleland, my god, a man who gave his limbs in defense of his country, and they were able to throw mud on him. They discredited pat Tillman, and Cindy Sheehan, the mother of a slain soldier, the harpies took off after enmasse. Shame on them. Shame on us as a country for not rising up and saying no more. Damn it, no more. They fed it to our armed forces and all of us have been sporting the bill on that one in more ways than can be imagined. Now, the media has the opportunity to begin to right the ship.
I tell you though it's really difficult to gauge how the wind is blowing by reading crook and liars. As truthful, as resilient and as steadying as this blog and its writers are, the blog writes to its readership. those who would make a difference in their voting do not read Crooks and Liars. They are not exposed to anything other than rush, savage and hannity. these are the ones who spread their gospel. the fair media has to take back the airwaves. for awhile, i thought fair minded republicans were coming to their senses and joining the movement to oust these charlatans, but in the end, party politics and the need in their mind to get elected took precedence over doing what in their heart they know is right. did all republicans lose their moral core???
BlueKnuckle @ 66:
He does have Malaria--but it's in remission. Doubt there's anything else involved.
andrew @ 71:
Tweety rolled over like the bitch he is and gladly took it. With so little time left and seeing the changes ahead, the hack POS is looking for ratings. He is responsible as much as Bush and Cheney for what has transpired. He too should be brought to justice when the time comes. Blood is also on his hands.
He's trying to make nice to everyone so he can sell his stupid "pamphlet." Who wants to own his stupid book. You can only say "l love me" so many ways and so many times before it gets stale real fast.
I saw the interview he had yesterday with his wife on another site--it was pathetic and very, very forced and phony. As I have posted here many times, Chris and his wife are syncophants. They are social climbers and just want to be accepted by "the cool kids."
I don't trust Brian Williams or Russert since I read an article in Men's Vogue Magazine (Apr. or Mar. '07) and they were interviewing Bush at the White House and Chimpy let something slip out and the whole WH staff gasped and every media person in the room was sworn to secrecy--they couldn't even discuss it with their wives. What the hell kind of press corps is that--to me they are complicit and as involved as Bush and the rest of the criminals. I think you can look this article up online--I was in NYC getting my hair done and I read it to pass the time. But I felt very queasy after reading it. The press in America???? Regretably, you can count on one hand the top journalists in this country today.
I thought Jon Stewart was terrific--he owned Matthews from start to finish.
Did Matthews throw away his Bush kneepads, or is Bush just not the flavor of the month anymore?
Matthews came on first as a liberal and seeing that he couldn't advance into money that way he changed sides -- long time ago!
Now -- I think he's just one more rat thinking about jumping ship.
MSM may be cracking -- Olbermann/MSNBC may have been the first to show signs of it. Their audiences are gone.
The corporate model is going to collapse because unregulated capitalism is its own worst enemy.
Bush has bankrupted the Treasury -- perhaps not unintentionally -- and granted the hierarchy of "have-mores" will be happier with a Depression, but some not so suicidal ultra elites will recognize that the overall agenda is suicidal and that some of them will also become victims.
Anyway, either side of the aisle Matthews is useless and dumb.
Not that we don't understand that corrupt government and CIA do, in large part, control MSM. Long time ago, we heard about MOCKINBIRD hee -- and all over the planet.
See Carl Bernstein's writing on this.
Jon Stewart was really too kind to Matthews -- a disgusting man!!!
"Oh, God, the wind has changed? I guess I better think about turning around unless I can just get one more interview or one more invitation."
Only took him 7 years to get to this point. Just one question Mr. Matthews - did you ask Mr. Bush for permission before you changed your diaper?
lol, this is like Nixon's Enemies List - for a while everyone
was hoping that they were on the list.
Same with the Bush Administration - all these guys are hoping
that Cheney and his pals were trying to censor these shows.
It gives guys like Matthews more street cred, right?
After seeing him the daily show, this does not improve my opinion of him any way. He is simply running his life as campaign, that is he saying whatever it takes to drum up attention for his book. period.
That's a crock of gutless excuse making and cynical lying. If the MSM wonders why nobody trusts them, this is just one of the reasons. They have willingly and eagerly betrayed their trust to the public, because they are willing propaagandists pursuing their own agendas They have sold us out, they have abandoned their Constitutionally appointed duties for a chance to be players in a fascist, totalitarian dictatorship. They have eagerly abetted every crime of this criminal regime in their pursuitof that chance.
God help them all if the People ever regain control of OUR government.
More proof that being in the center, like Matthews, is not the sane place to be. Be a man Chris, pick a side and stick to it. I recommend the left where brains, reason, and kindness win the day.
I did not think it would be possible to completely muzzle the national media, as has been done over the past 10 years. Certainly the intrusion of ultra-convervative Rupert Murdoch can explain some of it. But, even the former liberal outlets, like the NY Times and Washington Post, became very conservative in their reporting. Bill Moyers Journal, Buying the War (April 2007), provided an insiders perspective on how the national media surrendered their independence for honest journalism, and became a mouthpiece for the administration.
There were a few journalists reporting the facts. However, most of them were in small media markets. Since that time, some of the larger media outlets have been more professional in their reporting, some even trying to justify their sins. There are still many who have not crossed the line. Chris Matthews would have been become the target of every FOX attack imaginable if he had attempted to engage in honest journalism. All of the tele-journalists faced the same threat. O'Reilley said, "Any journalist who disagrees with this administration, during a time of crisis, and that is what this is, well just let me say, we will be coming after you." Not only did he mean it, this actually became a focused effort at FOX. Were these empty threats? Ask Phil Donahue. He was forced off the air.
Regardless of what happened in the past, I look at what people are doing now. Chris is focusing on trying to bring the truth forward. So, why is everyone busting on him, instead of guys like Russert, the NY Times, the Post, etc, who are still promoting the same WH agenda? It seems like 'discrediting the messenger' is still alive and well.
Neither one of these pants wetting liars would tell us the truth if it was going to anger their bosses.
Both of them have been INSTRUCTED to go this route to try and "win back some trust"
HA HA HA HA HA HA
TRUST THEM?
HA HA HA HA HA HA
Shoot Chris, all you had to do was ask how Cheny smells...end of problem!
Tweety wet his finger, stuck it in the air, and noticed the direction of the political winds were changing. His remark is simply a flip flop to change the direction of his wide stance, so that he is not pissing into the wind. He wouldn't want unsightly spots on his favorite tapping shoes. Remember, life is like a campaign and you have to look your best.
This was a career move. He's going to retire from "mainstream" media when his contract is up. He intends to do the lecture circuit, write and promote books, and expand his own blog-existence. His wife has been pressuring him to do this, plus she's had it with right-wingers.
You heard it here at C& L first.
The only explanation for Mr. Spittle is a diagnosis of Bi-Polar disease and he's obviously had some problem regulating his meds. Maybe when he leaves TV he will get a little black dress and go out on the talk circuit with his buddy mAnn Coulter. Perfect pair.
Matthews exhibits typical inside the beltway pundit behavior. When the wind really, really starts blowing a certain direction and things that were obvious to any sane, normal human suddenly just can't be blown off as "far left, liberals who hate the president" then you start screaming about how they are trying to muzzle me.
Matthews is an a word a completely untrustworthy and worthless ass.
Oh and he won't be so kind to the next president who is a democrat. You can count on that.
Mudkitty - interesting tip. I would expect this of Tweety. What an empty blowhard he is. Completely predictable!
However, I hope he's not surprised when people do not line up to hear him speak, and the cash flow isn't as much as he anticipated it would be. He sacrificed credibility for short-term success on teevee, and there is a price to pay for being vacuous.
"Matthews' behavior is puzzling?" I beg to disagree. It's easy to understand what he's all about, but first one has to understand what his program is all about.
"Hardball" is a one-man "Crossfire" or "McLaughlin Group." The idea (which has been copied by sports talk shows) is to inflame the audience's emotions by taking first one side of an issue, then the other. Someone is always yelling, "Right on!" while someone else is screaming, "Bullshit!" But both are watching, because they're emotionally involved.
Because he's a one-man show, Matthews has to perform both functions at once. That's why he's opposed to Iraq, but likes Bush. That's why he's opposed to spying on Americans, but thinks the spy program protects us. It's why he takes both sides of every issue at different times, and gets away with it. He's a media whore, plainly and simply.
Day late and a dollar short, Tweety.
Anybody who has a man-crush on both Duybya and Freddie the Lizard Thompson is one twisted dude.
Does this guy have the most irritating donkey bray ever?
The hell with him.
Chris Matthews will need to check into a mental health facility.
Was Tim Russet in attendance at the partaay? Seems old Tweety has changed his chirp. Yet both these scum moderate the debates! Both Russert and Matthews are part of what's wrong with this county.
Robert Lockwood Mills @ 91:
Sorry, Robert. This is the same Chris Matthews that compared Bush to Lincoln simply because Bush admitted he shouldn't have said "Bring 'Em On!" in the run-up to the war.
That's not playing both sides of an argument. That's called cheerleading (and sycophancy).
[...] CHRIS MATTHEWS THREATENED BY THE WHITE HOUSE [...]
Chris Matthews is not gay.
Thirty-five years ago when we were in our twenties and both attractive, Chris and I worked evenings at the U.S. Capitol. He was a Capitol policeman and I ran the elevator next to his station. The place was virtually empty most nights. There was nothing much to do and I spent hours listening to his comments in the same non-stop loud chatter viewers are subjected to watching his show. We became friends, and bought a house together on Capitol Hill which we renovated and sold.
The reason I have any credibility on this issue is I spent a lot of time with him without hearing much about sex. I am not certain he knew he has a dick.
