Poor James. He can't handle the TRUTH@! OK, that's played out, but you know what I mean.

C&Ler Joe emailed this clip last night and it is pretty funny. Republican Senator and serial Global Warming denier---James Inhofe said that the mild mannered Anderson Cooper was calling him names and threatening him. Oh, my!

InHofe: I've been personally attacked by Anderson Cooper. It's taking place right now, even this week, calling me every kind of name---all kinds of threats. This is what you, you people say "why don't more members of the House and Senate tell the truth about climate change?" This is the reason. This is what we're subjected to. I have got a big family at home that has to watch all this.

Please, please, please tell the truth about Global Warming for once in your life, Senator.

COOPER: That was Senator James Inhofe. For the record, I never called the Senator any names at all or ever made any threats toward him. The idea that I would make threats toward him is simply bizarre. I, frankly, have no idea what he's talking about.

We did feature the senator and his position on climate change in our documentary. He thinks it's a hoax, but he declined to talk to us then. And he declined to talk to us for this program.

I don't think he has any idea what he said either. Remember this "bizarre" exchange between Inhofe and Barbara Boxer during Al Gore's testimony?

The most bizarre claim I've heard about Anderson Cooper is that he has actually worked for the CIA previously to being anchor for CNN. That wouldn't be so outstanding or out of question if you've heard of Operation Mockingbird.

What is it with the Republicans? Is there some form of mental illness racing through the party?

TheToonGuy's picture

Seriously, can we get someone to declare this man unable to fulfill his duties for medical reasons? He's showing paranoid delusions now - do we have to wait until he's walking down the street muttering to himself? The man needs help and he's clearly to far gone to seek it himself.

Inhofe is a bizarre dude. He makes completely unsubstantiated accusations, and his constituents just take him at his word, not bothering to check up on the authenticity of his comments. He's a product of Oklahoma. My apologies to all the critically thinking people who reside in Oklahoma, but apparently there aren't enough of you in that state to override this kind of bizarre leadership behavior.

When Boxer did her gavel-girl routine with him, I read that many people in Oklahoma thought she had been rude and disrespectful to him. Well, I watched that video several times, and she did nothing of the sort. She simply put him in his rightful place, and he doesn't like sitting there, so he lets loose his "she done me wrong" routine. What a wingnut! Oklahoma, do something about him!!!

Here's the thing: Inhofe isn't crazy. He knows that Crooksandliars, Media Matters, etc. will call him out on this and show that his accusations are completely off the wall. And he also knows that none of the poor saps in Oklahoma who voted for him again and again will read Crooksandliars, Media Matters, etc. More, if they stumble on CNN and here Cooper's denials, they'll shrug it off as another case of a loathsome Liberal lying about a decent, honest man.

And do you think Fox is going to call him out on this? Because if Fox doesn't, the Okie Inhofe voters will never have reason (irony intended) to doubt their saintly, holy man. If Sean Hannity were to attack Inhofe (fat chance) as a liar, Inhofe would be hurt.

All of these corporate fascists understand the power of a Big Lie which is why the lie so big, so often. of course, it's possible that enough people who were fooled by Inhofe before may actually be seeking sources of information other than Fox to vote against him next time. Sorry, Inhofe isn't telling us global warming is a hoax, he's telling us the Big Sky Daddy will fix our boo-boo.

I can only guess that you're asserting Mars has an atmosphere with significant amounts of CO2, but it's cold. But Mars is also further from the Sun than we are, and it has no liquid water - even the ice caps are not actual water.

Not sure where you're getting this junk about Antarctica when the Larsen B ice shelf basically disintegrated - and we're not talking a couple of inches, we're talking hundreds of feet thick, stretching for miles. Same with Greenland - we're seeing more of the ground, not more ice.

Heat causes CO2? Say what? Not once in any science or physics class I took was it ever established that heat causes CO2. On the other hand, I recall plenty of classes affirming that elevated levels of CO2 increase heat retention in the atmosphere.

And, just like the knobheads who decry evolution as 'just a theory,' mathematical models are used on a regular basis in our daily lives. They influence the stock market, how much power is available on the grid ... and the design of aircraft are also derived from mathematical models.

"It's just a mathematical model, not reality," is hardly a compelling argument.

Only thing I could find said about Inhofe in the "Planet in Peril" documentary:

ANDERSON COOPER: James Inhofe, Republican senator from Oklahoma, is the loudest voice, with probably the biggest platform, who questions whether man is responsible for climate change. His position has led to some intense political theater.

And later from the same segment:

INHOFE: This whole idea of global warming is something that has been brought up by certain groups who have a lot to benefit from it, and has nothing to do with real science.

COOPER: Nothing to do with science and everything to do with money. Support human-caused climate change, Inhofe's thinking goes, and you get more funding. But Inhofe's critics question his funding. The second biggest contributors to Inhofe's Senate office are energy and natural resource companies. We wanted to talk to Senator Inhofe about those contributions and his position on climate change. "whiny sack of toxic filth"

"repuglican idiots"

"nutbag"

and so on. I really thought that maybe we were above that and we could actually discuss issues like climate change, the war, etc. without feeding the Senator's claims of name-calling and insults (the point would be to support Mr. Cooper's claims of bizarre behavior from the Senator without the name-calling).

Hmm. Another sock puppet berating the C&L crowd for their horrible, impolite, unproductive name calling. Seems to be the trend this week.

This is not John Amato's Science Forum. It's Crooks & Liars, whereupon scorn and ridicule are heaped upon said people, kind of like the internet version of putting 'em in the stocks and leaving them on view in the public square.

I love how this works....A number of C&L posts and a favorite theme of several commentors is to attack Republicans for making ad hominem attacks (either to attack the messenger to discredit the message or to moblize the faithful). The implication is usually that "progressives" are somehow more moral/ethical/high minded than conservatives.

Inevitably, of course, similar ad hominem attacks are made about conservatives on progressive web sites. When someone complains, they are dismissed as "concern" trolls.

I'd have no problem with this ... except for the hypocrisy of calling conservatives names because they call liberals names.

Jim Inhofe's a fucking moron. I guess the country's fucking morons deserve representation in Congress. He's got a reliable constituency in Oklahoma, I can assure you. Unless he's raptured (or outed), I cannot foresee him losing his seat. I believe he is reliably the creature of Koch Oil, ADM, and Phillips Petroleum.

In the interest of full disclosure, I spent 30 years in Oklahoma from 1994 to 2000.

If Jim Inhofe is going to go on and on and on...about how Anderson Cooper is threatening his life, then Anderson should just take him up on that and kill him. [snark ala Pat Robertson]

Do you all belong to a club? Is it 'Trash C&L Week' and no one told me? Which one of you disgusting little trolls is Michelle Malkin hiding behind a psuedonym?

Arizona, Arizona. tisk tisk. Who told you that silly stuff?

Even the Bush adminstration states that a) Planet getting warmer. b) It is human caused.

Go to 'whitehouse.gov' and search for 'Climate Change' -- they don't call it 'global warming' in those circles.

Sorry you didn't get the memo -- you're officially a kook now.

Fortunately, you are marginalized, in your little corner -- the rest of the world reads actual science news. So, I don't need to convince you of anything but I feel sorry for you. You are NOW among a dwindling group of flat earthers.

I heard a good interview with the guy that THEY (Bush admin) sent to talk to the UN. The US is actually not arguing the point anymore. They are arguing about who pays where the big deniers are now China and the Arabs.

Let me ask this: What other broadly accepted (by scientist the world over) do you or anyone (anyone not a kook!), disregard like this? Think about it. Why this one? You probably know that smoking causes cancer, right? A virus causes AIDS.

I can send you to web sites that deny that. The ones you are seeing that silly stuff on are fronts for oil companies, China, and OPEC. THAT you can research -- you will not be disappointed in the clear links to oil company money.

Hypocrisy and tu quoques aren't synonymous.

Frankly it sounds like Imohe is off his head with wild unsubstantiated accusations and denouncements, precluding even the possiblity of rational discourse.

No wait! :-) Sorry I can't help it.
Azizona -- dude! You're seriously sending people to a source YOU THINK IS CREDIBLE that has this: LOL LOL LOL

Funny how some idiots keep calling those who are not brainwashed by the polemic religion that is global warming, "global warming deniers", as if to be rational about the science is to be akin to a holocaust denier. There is absolutely no FACT upon which anyone can "deny" it, for the global wamring hysteria relies on mathematical models, not reality.

This one particular gentlemen is telling all the losers and ignoramuses that the whole global warming thing is a SCAM. Stop blinding yourself to the evidence. Stop ignoring the evidence. Start to LOOK at the evidence.

The Sun.
Mars.
Antarctic Ice sheet thickest its ever been
Ice under Greenland thickest its ever been.
Heat causes CO2, not the other way around.

When will people get theoir heads out of their own asses and look at the truth?

It is getting so incredibly boring to have to listen to the same drivel spewed out so many times about denier this, evil person that...yaaaaawwwwwwnnnnnnnn.

Well, that particular discussion is neither here nor there, let's say Inhofe is right about global warming, does it make any more sense for him to be making non-sensical claims about Anderson Cooper attacking him, and making threats? Since it would be rather easy to check whether Cooper had made any threats on the air, is Inhofe claiming Cooper is calling his house and threatening him?

No, because he claimed his family has to "watch it" meaning it must have been on the television.

Inhofe isn't doing your cause any good by railing like a lunatic

It musta been great to be Barbara Boxer for that moment in time!!!!! I bet she gets a little smile on her face whenever she thinks of it. I do.

I see ... if someone disagrees with you, they must be a troll. Or is that the definition of "troll" as far as you're concerned? Your inability to tolerate dissent and your immediate attempt to dismiss people you disagree with as trolsl are tactics taken right from Ms. Malkin's playbook. Are you sure you aren't her?

By the way, I'm trashing you and the people like you, not C&L in general.

Shame on Anderson Cooper for not admitting that he attacked Inhofe.

If Anderson Cooper was a man he would apologize to the Senator.

How can America continue to win the war in Iraq when journalists such as Anderson Cooper are attacking America's Senators?

I have no teeth. I have a sixth grade education from a religious charter school. I listen to Rush Limbaugh and Fox News and Jerry Springer all day. I represent the majority of Americans.

Darth_Romney's picture

Sad thing is, people in that nitwit's state would actually vote for him again! People in Oklahoma must seriously be dumber than a bag of hammers!

Cooper should be more specific about Inhoff's beliefs. Inhoff SAYS he believes global warming is a hoax, but I think he's being paid a lot of money by Big Oil to lie about global warming. Inhoff, like every other Republican in the House and Senate, belongs in prison for betraying the American people for money and power.

What's wrong with Oklahoma. Any way to have a reverse land rush to give it back to the native Americans?

Seriously. Tom Coburn is also mentally damaged.

Falsehood is the modus operandi of the American right. Truth in any form is an incitement of all they stand for and is thus their most deadly enemy.

I'd like to stick up for my state and say we're really all not complete idiots, but then I remembered our other senator is Tom Coburn. Is there any other state in the nation that has such a sorry pair representing them? I pretty much gave up any hope for my neighbors to elect anyone sane to Congress after '04. It's too bad too, because we occasionally have pretty good people challenge our miserable incumbents...
