What's a day without a Republican sex scandal? Next up: Ozwald Balfour!
By John Amato Monday Nov 12, 2007 11:48amAs far as I know---he campaigned for Orrin Hatch and is on the executive committee of the Utah Republican Party.
A 3rd District judge this week scuttled Republican leader Ozwald Balfour's efforts to disqualify the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office from prosecuting him for allegedly groping, or attempting to grope, four women.
Four sex assault cases filed against Balfour in 2005 were still unresolved last fall when he threw his support - and the free services of his two media consulting companies - to Republican district attorney candidate Lohra Miller. He is charged with three second-degree felony counts of forcible sexual abuse and one count of attempted forcible sexual abuse, a third-degree felony...read on

all these rapture bunnies have skeletons in their closets. They all belong on sex offender lists
Stern daddy figures with little girls?
They're just relieved that he's chasing poon.

Took the words right outta my mind!
I was going to say that the GOPers are glad it's with non-jailbait females.
Disgusting bunch of freaks these GOPers... must be one of the qualifications for the club.
Oh Ozzy.... how low you have sunk-ded

Feeling up women is every man's right. No matter how much they protest, they secretly love it.
This is MINOR for the GOP! They're probably saying, "WHEW! It wasn't gay and didn't involve meth or men's rest rooms! Thank GOD!!!"
They'll probably hand a MEDAL on him!
"Only in Utah can a man accused of sexual assault and awaiting trial retain a position of prominence in the GOP without so much as a raised eyebrow from the party known for its family values and moral rectitude…"
I think the GOP is only known as the party of "family values and moral rectitude" in the same way that Sears is known as "America's Retailer". That is, everyone knows it's no longer applicable. Liberals just keep it alive because the current state of the Republican Party is so disheveled that it makes a hilarious contrast.
Pity that poor pervert, Balfour
When it comes to the ladies, he's all for
Copping a feel
(Hey, just part of the deal
When the GOP crawls around on all fours!)
ATLANTA - More than 1 million cases of chlamydia were reported in the United States last year — the most ever reported for a sexually transmitted disease, federal health officials said Tuesday.
Abstinence works!!!
Well sure, he's covered by the Boys Will Be Boys Vitter Amendment.
This doesn't matter because Hillary has a goofy laugh.
I blame Clinton.
The firm policy of the morally bankrupt Bush administration is to do their best to terrify everyone, including Congress, into believing that enormous armies of evil Arabs are poised to attack the United States, invade Topeka, Kansas, blowing up public toilets and day care centers.
Another Proud Member of the GrOPe.
In which alternate universe is the republican party 'known for it's family values and moral rectitude'?
Where I live, it's known for 'debasing the family and same-sex amoral rectal dudes'.
Uh, no, it's not only in Utah any more.
What is this SH*T!
Muir Beach man cited for cleaning beach
No good deed goes unpunished.
At least that's how Muir Beach resident Sigward Moser felt Friday after he says he was threatened with a Taser gun, forced to the ground and handcuffed by a National Park Service ranger for refusing to stop cleaning up the oily beach beneath his home.
Moser, a 45-year-old communications consultant, said he was forced to sprawl handcuffed on the wet sand for an hour before he was released and given two misdemeanor citations, one for entering an emergency area and another for refusing a lawful order.

Utah, like the GOP, considers itself to be a fount of family values and moral rectitude as well which makes this even more ironic. However, the GOP's support for "family values" and "moral rectitude" has always been little more than a marketing strategy. There have been so many examples of the major disconnect between their public posturing and their actual behavior that the only thing that is surprising is the fact that GOPers are greeted with laughter and cat-calls whenever they trot out these---and many other---lies. It may not be possible to fool all of the people all the time, but it is certainly possible in American politics to fool most of the electorate most of the time.
They’re just relieved that he’s chasing poon.
You meant "hetro" poon, didn't you? Because if he were chasing homosexual poon, this gets buried and never heard of.
I'm still waiting for a ReThug to get caught in the act with a barnyard animal.
Pillow Pants @ 3:
Too funny.
I guess a scandal involving hetero sex is better for their image. OOPS, too bad he's married.
Feeling up women is every man’s right. No matter how much they protest, they secretly love it.
Au contraire, mon freir...it depends on the man doing the feeling up. George Clooney/Denzel Washington...yeah - Orrin Hatch/Rick Santorum/John Boehner/Clarence Thomas - just plain ewwwwww, followed by a right hook to the jaw for any of those creeps attempting to try that shyt.
It is even more extraordinary that two Salt Lake newspapers are using Democratic talking points in explaining how the GOP is no longer the party of hetero family values. Where's Coulter and her truck bombs?
20+ comments and none makin' fun of the way he spells his name?!?! OZwald?!?!
After a record Republican Cocktober, Blowvember is coming right along.
dude......when is the FLYNT outing going to happen?
Oh well... I'm suppose to be surprised or what...Sounds like just another pervert member of the party of grand old perverts....
Really.. Just another situation normal, all fucked up....Same as it ever was....JD
I've been thinking lately that the remedy for the hyper partisan conservative majority on the SCOTUS is for some highly patriotic newshound to follow those jurors around night and day, shining a little light into their daily lives. Heck, their own leaders are telling us that we cannot expect PRIVACY anymore.
Being natural pervs, all ReThuglikkin' operatives will eventually bow to the pressure and do something disgusting. We need a camera there when they do it!
Is anybody simply maintaining a list of all these Republican sex scandals? One would think such a list would be useful in the upcoming elections. And it's difficult to keep them all sorted out! (I was going to write "It's hard to keep them all straight," but there are so many double-entendres in there that my eyes crossed).
What's the big deal about these sex scandals? We all know politicians play to a base, regardless of their hypocracy in not maintaining the public image of that particular constituency. Democrats do it to, perhaps their just not getting caught. I couldn't care less if a politician is screwing his brains out with the opposite or same sex. Just govern and try to minimize the amount of social agendas that conflict with everyday habits.
The Sea Hawk @ 32:
It's not a matter of "they're all doin' it". It's a matter of HYPOCRISY when a member of the so-called Values Party does it. They pander for votes by decryin' these types of behavior.
"groping, or attempting to grope.
God, they can't even get that right. If you're gonna grope...grope on.
The Sea Hawk @ 32:
To paraphrase James Carville...It's the hypocrisy, stupid. You seem to wanna jump over that but its the thing of the thing.
Pretty calculating - it's a pre-emptive strike. Rumors of his bathhouse exploits were about to come out, and he was advised to pinch as many female - biologically female - butts he could get hold of, no pun intended. He was probably going "ewwww" the whole time.
Johnny2Bad @ 34:
Ozwald sees the breast...He reaches fer the breast...Oh no! Ms. Jones' unexpected slide-step to the right leaves Ozwald gropin' fer air and stumblin' into the water cooler!
So close, yet so far.

IF A PERSON TRIES ONE TIME, HE/SHE BELONGS ON THE "REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER LIST."
shantiquax @ 36:
To his credit, the charges against Balfour date back to '05.
But who knows what he's done in the interim?
They don't say whether he nor she are Republicans

This is just WAY too regular!
Wait a minute ... are we supposed to believe a Republican was groping a WOMAN? Now that seems a bit strange to me.
Man, if the Democratic leadership had any brains they'd be coming up with a way to scandalize the GOP with this, similar to the negative connotations of "Liberal" 10 years ago. You can't upbraid someone for hypocrisy in politics because that's part of the nature of the game. Some might argue that groping is, as well, but there's more recent history of the GOP taking others to task for similar behavior that it would be easier to throw that in their faces. Immature, I know, but with this and the Nixonian behavior of the current administration it strikes me as odd that the Dems are so often on the defensive.
ysbaddaden @ 41:
Admittedly on my mind. ;)
BTW, I read somethin' today that might be verrry helpful fer both of us.
I'm shocked! A Republican sex scandal...not involving a men's rest room! What's the deal here??? The RRC-Rest Room Challenged... I was beginning to think a Republican couldn't take a piss without blowing someone!!!
Just a note that this is actually a crime -- assault. So many of these scandals reflect behavior that either would normally be okay or at least insignificant if the faux conervatives didn't make outrageous claims of "morality." Larry Craig, for example, was obnoxious, but didn't hurt anybody; I've been approached in a stall the way he did it, and just ignored it. It made me uncomfortable, but it wasn't what happened to these women.
The media lumps all this under "scandal" but I hope we can keep our own heads clear enough to remember that for example what Foley did -- pursuing children that were in his charge and under his power -- was seriously criminal. While, when we eventually do see that one of these Republicans is having sex with a pinata or a cardboard cut out of the Pres, it will be gross/hilarious, but no one will be getting hurt.
And the real issues have nada to do with sex.
Since it's not a gay sex scandal, he'll use the "Jesus forgave me" strategy. The gay Republicans use the "alcohol rehab" strategy...
...he might even "rebuke the devil"...if we're lucky...
Why is this story being politicized? Shouldn't the victims be our biggest concern, rather than the political leanings of the alleged aggressor? I know if the tables were turned, and the accused was a Democrat, we'd be crying "foul"! There are better and more worthy stories out there than this trash.
7 Mr. Anon Says: Feeling up women is every man’s right. No matter how much they protest, they secretly love it.
The men or the women? ;)
Andy K @ 45:
To funny, "working with the terrorists".
Groping a woman and he's a Republican? That must be a lonely feeling. I'm sure when he's hanging out with other GOPers and talking up his conquests, there's very little interest to go round -- girls, ewwwww.
IgnoranceIsNotBliss @ 52-
Two things(apologies fer goin' off on a non-tangential tangent, site monitors) :
1). Cole is consistently the smartest funny blogger out there. Or the funniest smart blogger. Take yer pick.*
2). I couldn't figure out how to hyperlink. I e-mailed another blogger (to protect his identity I'll refer to him only as J.A. at C----- and L----) who told me that he couldn't figure it out either. I'm glad that Cole made that post today! :)
*Don't get me wrong- there are great posts and a great community at C&L. That's why I consider it home.
Why is Delay not yet in jail?
Why does Delay have a passport while awaiting his inevitable jail sentance?
Tom @ 50:
Um, so if you have such better things to do, why are you commenting after reading 49 other comments after reading the "trash"? The troll doth protest too much, methinks...
(Bye the bye, Mr. Concern-Troll: The short answer is that the political leanings of the perp/perv do matter. Particularly when the GOP has been so actively hostile to women's equality and basic rights. I can imagine Balfour being the type of guy who would slip roofies to a chick one night and vote against requiring hospitals to provide information about emergency contraception to rape victims the next morning. 'Cuz God tells 'em that women can't be trusted with their own bodies, much less equal pay and the vote.)
This is a b.s. story!
This guy is a Democrat! Not a Republican.
If he were a Republican this would have to be GAY sex scandal.
Hasn't anyone been paying attention? The GOP is the Gay Old Party. Larry Craig, etc.
I'm guessing this guy has a "wide stance" like Craigy!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
cubiclegrrl @ 56:
Better things to do? Where did I mention that? And, no, I didn't read the 49 preceding posts as there didn't seem to be much point to it. The dog-pack mentality was obvious from the start.
*knock knock*
Hello, I'm a sexual offender and I'm running for the Republican Nomination this year. I hope I can count on your support.
The Political Junkie @ 22:
Hey, that's a good question... where ARE the homophobic closet self-hating Republican lesbians? I guess the Republicans are all about the men, straight or gay.
As for the bestiality... my moneys on Rick "Man-On-Dog" Santorum getting caught first. Well... someone leaks the photos that show just why Guliani holds so much resentment against ferrets and duck tape...
I pity SLC though... they were just getting past the imported 13 year old sex slaves from Canada thing...
Ozwald Balfour’s
Man.... his parents must have really hated him. No wonder he's a GOP sex fiend.
Balfour, 53, of South Jordan, is the founder of the Utah
Republican Black Assembly.
Wait? He's black AND Republican in UTAH?
Got to be the loneliest guy on the planet, no wonder he's groping people!
What is it with politicians that they can't control themselves? This is not a partisan issue, there was an impeachment over this kind of behavior. It makes me wonder what happens in those all night sessions... Hopefully the never sleeping eye of C-Span will keep them in line, because i'd sure hate to turn on the tube one day and see politicians gone wild in full, drooping, jiggling, color.
I woulda bin shocked if he had groped 4 men. Wait a minute. No, I wouldn't be. Nevermind.
"Only in Utah can a man accused of sexual assault and awaiting trial retain a position of prominence in the GOP "
You have got to be fucking kidding. Utah may be a god forsaken wasteland of delusional jeebus freak pariahs, but it's not unique in the GOP. Utah is kind of the Vegas of the GOP. It's where you go if you want to smother yourself in pious sanctimony, wrap yourself up in the red-white-and-blue and fuck multiple pre-pubescent girls all in the same weekend. Just like Vegas the minors you violate in Utah stay in Utah. But I digress..
The GOP not only accepts sexual deviants into it's fold, it is actively recruiting them. As long as you profess hatred for your sexual practices, they are perfectly happy to take you in. Oh, and you have to be relatively rich and willing to persecute other people who have your same proclivities. The rich part is the most important part.
I mean, what other party is based on the idea of hatred? The GOP is a party based on the hatred of homosexuals, sex in general, other ethnicities, other colors other religions. They are, at the core, a party who hates everything including themselves. They are full of self hating homos, self hating blacks, self hating Jews, self hating Latinos. As well a lots of rich white control freaks who need those people to vote GOP but really do hate them.
Say what you want to about Utah, but it's not special in the GOP world.
Andy K @ 45:
I saved it but admittedly didn't understand a word of it.
