If it's possible to make Bush look any stupider---the new NIE report on certainly Iran does.  Silent Patriot posted this on 10/17/07:

Bush: But this — we got a leader in Iran who has announced that he wants to destroy Israel. So I’ve told people that if you’re interested in avoiding World War III, it seems like you ought to be interested in preventing them from have the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon…

Is anyone else shocked that it was FOX’s Bret Baier that elicited the “World War III” sound byte? Me neither. Full transcript here if you can stomach it.

Kevin Drum has a good post up and notes:

This NIE was apparently finished a year ago, and its basic parameters were almost certainly common knowledge in the White House well before that. This means that all the leaks, all the World War III stuff, all the blustering about the IAEA — all of it was approved for public consumption after Cheney/Bush/Rice/etc. knew perfectly well it was mostly baseless.

Nothing smells better in the morning to the Neocons than war propaganda. That's why Cheney tried to hold up the report from coming out.

A National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) on Iran has been held up for more than a year in an effort to force the intelligence community to remove dissenting judgments on the Iranian nuclear programme, and thus make the document more supportive of U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney’s militarily aggressive policy toward Iran, according to accounts of the process provided by participants to two former Central Intelligence Agency officers.

via Amanda: "As ThinkProgress has documented, the White House’s manipulation of the Iran NIE bore a striking resemblance to the controversies that played out over pre-war Iraq intelligence."

Not stupider. More sociopathic than ever.

Impeach! Indict! Incarcerate!

NOW!

Kucinich '08!

...oh yes...and FRIST!

Damn. Thought I finally had it!

They will continue to spin it as Iran is "thinking" about acquiring a nuke.

Notice bush said, "...preventing them from have the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon…"

Notice how carefully worded that is. "The knowledge necessary" he isn't saying they are making them, but he's implying they are on an all out effort to do so.

How the hell do you prevent someone from knowing how to do something? There are computers and phones and all sorts of communications.

Sure as hell cheney didn't want this report to come out. It blows his bs right out of the water.

As Yogi Berra would say "it's deja vu all over again".

Stop the insanity and arrest these criminals!!!!!!!!!

Actually he said (and always says) nu-cu-lur. And, yes, he said "the knowledge necessary" which is reminiscent of Larry Craig stating that he "intends to resign..."

And the republics talk about Bill Clinton's parsing of words?! HAAAAAAAA!

Bush is not stupider.....he's stupidest.

If someone denies being a hypocrite, we would all agree that he probably is a hypocrite.

But if someone admits he is a hypocrite, does that mean he's not a hypocrite?

What does this have to do with Bush? Nothing.

But what does Bush have to do with anything? Nothing.

There's a certain harmony there.

But to answer a basic question raised by Bush's actions. How do you stop someone from knowing anything? Have them born a bush.

It's sort of like Rove saying that congress pushed the US to invade Iraq. They have told so many lies and gotten away with it so long that lying has become second nature to them. It's a part of their MO. Just tell the public the same thing over and over, no matter the reality of it, and eventually Americans will be convinced it's the truth.

We need to do an intervention. We need to sit them down and explain what they have done to our country.....and then we send them off to Gitmo with a kick in their asses.

Well I guess they're right then. Look at Iraq, we invaded them and all their scientists ran for their lives.

It is against the law for politicians to propagandize to the citizens.
Maybe we will see some arrests now.

And Bush got what funding and laws passed from his lying fear
mongering about this?

One good thing is that the intel community didnt cave in at least. They did stick to their assessments this time.

Amato, are you SURE you have a valid release from the White House to use the term,

'Crooks and Liars'?

'Cause sneaky as these bastards are, they're likely to try to renege and grab all your gold and head for Paraguay one of these days soon. Just be careful.

The Republican Party. Lie about a BJ under oath and you deserve to get impeached. Lie about rationale for wars, treason, warrantless wiretapping, etc. etc. etc. but not under oath and it is Fair Game. Only lying under oath is wrong.* Other lies, no matter their relevance, magnitude, etc., are OK. Republican Party.
*And you get pardoned anyway eg. Scooter Libby.

This guy is a GDCSer. I can't even bring myself to think about this shit in any kind of detail without preparing to tear myself in two.

even this too will be swept inder the rug ia a day or so.

Yet the silly fight over Moveon ad about General Petraious got what a vote in congress condeming it and a months free coverage ?

Bush is a beady-eyed, war-mongering pseudo-religious sociopath.

He and Michael Savage are soulmates.

Love the picture of Chris at the end.

"My brain is full. Can I go home now?"

I was doing some online research this morning with regards to Rove's re-writing of history on just who pushed whom on the rush to invade Iraq.

Everything that was said about Iraq can flooding back when I head this news about Iran this afternoon.

Most memorable about Iraq was the "you don't roll out a new product in September" quote (or was it "August"?) Probably the clearest proof of Rove's revisionist history.

The fact that this news breaks on a Monday should not be lost on anyone. Thanksgiving has passed and If they could of delayed it till Xmas, they would have. But by doing it on a Monday, it provides them a full week to put the Damage Control Machine into full Spin Cycle before the Sunday shows next weekend.

“So I’ve told people that if you’re interested in avoiding World War III, it seems like you ought to be interested in preventing them from have the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon. I take the threat of Iran with a nuclear weapon very seriously.” [Bush, 10/17/07]

“Our country, and the entire international community, cannot stand by as a terror-supporting state fulfills its grandest ambitions. … The Iranian regime needs to know that if it stays on its present course the international community is prepared to impose serious consequences.” [Cheney, 10/21/07]

“The problem is Iran, and Iran has not stepped back from trying to pursue a nuclear weapon, and — or reprocessing and enriching uranium, which would lead to a nuclear weapon.” [White House spokeswoman Dana Perino, 10/26/07]

“We talked about Iran and the desire to work jointly to convince the Iranian regime to give up their nuclear weapons ambitions, for the sake of peace.” [Bush, 11/7/07]

“We’re in a position now, clearly, especially when we look at Iran, where it’s very, very important we succeed in our efforts, our national security efforts, to discourage the Iranians from enriching uranium and producing nuclear weapons.” [Cheney, 11/9/07]

“We are convinced that they are developing nuclear weapons.” [Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman, 11/13/07]

The correct quotation should read " ... the knowledge necessary to make a nucular (sic) weapon ... " The man's ignorance cannot be ignored.

Actually I was kind of wondering if THIS was what he meant when he said: "This isn't my first rodeo."

Officials said the new findings suggest that diplomacy has been effective in containing Iran's nuclear ambitions, although President Bush's national security adviser, Stephen Hadley, said the risk of Iran acquiring a nuclear weapon remains " a serious problem."

I still don't understand ho they hope to prevent anyone from having "the knowledge". Aren't "the knowledge", blueprints, etc relatively easy to come by? That is, in proportion with the destructive potential of these weapons. You can't keep people from knowing how to build the Bomb, you can, however, keep them from obtaining the materials necessary to build it. Maybe. And none of that even addresses the point of whether we even have the right to do that much.

I say this knowing full-well the answer:
these people a lying, prevaricating, cowardly, warmongering bastards. And doody-heads, too.

Love how the idiot in chief laughs when he says "it seems like you ought to be interested in preventing them from have the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon… and then "I take it very serious". Well he kind of said that with a bunch of uhs and duhs.

i grow more surprised every day that this dickhead can safely walk very far with so very very much horseshit in his bloomers!

They just made a very good point regarding this report, on CNN. They said how will this report look to Russia and China? The US has been telling those countries we needed to hurry to put stronger sanctions against Iran before they could fully develop an a nuke. Now they will find out that the US knew this wasn't true and that Iran was not on the verge of blowing up anything.

What's that 'fool me once' B.S line....Bush used once upon a time.. Yea... Guess they won't be using that tagline anytime soon related to this latest reality sammich served up blowing the lid off another of Cheney's schemes and propaganda... Yet another smoking gun to add to the arsenal of evidence which if there was any kind of functioning legislature and judiciary, would have already led to impeachment proceedings.... I'm with 99.9% of the other posters here, impeach, indict, imprison and/or render to a world court for final judgement.... These people in the Bush administration make Machieavelli look like a beginner....

There is a poster here who will beg to differ on the impeachment question... to him I say, don't bother friend, I get where you are coming from and understand your perspective.. But this is not really about winning or losing at this point.. Given the realities, it won't pass, I get that, and Bush is probably going to walk out of office a free man next year... But that doesn't matter in the broader context of what is at stake. Its about creating a framework of legal accounting for the future to review. An accounting that must be available for the sake of the nation honor and its political system.

A legal accounting of the failures in leadership and the perversion of the office president of the United States for personal gain and some warped ideology. Something which cannot take place later without this proper first step, implemented, whether or not that step be successful. Even if unsuccessful in the here and now, an impeachment provides the framework for a future where the votes to block that proper accounting and final desposition of responsibility no longer exists. An impeachment establishes that precident to allow review and will be impossible later without the leaders of today taking that necessary step in the present.

Not taking this action will hamper or prevent any debate later as a futile exercise in 'he said, she said' revenge politics, with those who would seek to protect this sick legacy ligitimately claiming that IF it was in fact the crimes we know it to be, then action which was not taken should have been. Further the argument will maintain, that since no action was taken, then it must not have been an impeachable series of events to begin with....

And THAT is another lousy precident that will have been established by those in the here and now who should and probably do know better but won't act out of some irrational fear and faulty logic of the consequences, probably improperly tied to their own perceptions of their political futures......Impeachment is the answer to saving this nations future now...........JD

Bush so owns America....even with total explicit BS and games. As Turley said the Dems will never let this cruel criminal be tried for his obvious crimes. Bush laughs at America as he easily has his way making his country a sad corrupt bitch.

If the sky really were falling, no one would pay attention to the US now, no matter how loud we yelled.

Our credibility goose is cooked and now overcooked.

Good post, Mr. Amato. I can hardly wait to see what Olbermann does with it tonight.

My cynicism: Hell, Bush is probably finding this out for the first time himself. And he finding out that Cheney lied to him. This Prez doesn't read or investigate. He gets his marching orders during the weekly Prez-VP lunch, then it's back to the gym or the bottle, or his daily list of phone call to-dos.

Probably one of the only places that still might, though Blair was hated for his connections with the US and Brown has been told in no uncertain terms to put some distance there, though looks like he might be getting bought off.

I can't think of any where else that would willingly return a call, apart from Israel for obvious reasons.

It doesn't matter. No one will do anything about any of it in D.C.. None of the signing statements will be challenged, none of the lies exposed. They are all in it together....

You know, as much as these people have lied to the people of this country, and to the rest of the globe, if a day comes that something happens that they really need people to believe what they are telling them, they will be sunk. They have seriously lost ALL credibility. Its like the boy who cried wolf. They have lied and manipulated far too much, gone to that well of deceit once to often, and their words mean NOTHING!

I don't believe anything that comes out of this administration. Iran has nuclear weapons. Iran will have nuclear weapons. Iran doesn't have nuclear weapons. What does it matter? Bushco and the Repubs have no credibility. How on earth are we supposed to know when they are telling the truth and when they aren't?

What scares me more than a nuclear Iran is a Tex ass phony cowboy w/ his finger on what,25,000 nukes. Next week , boosh will bring up WWIII again, and the BushCo cumdumpster Perino will dismiss the report. It will be business as usual until you see the night explosions in Tehran on Fox, and Kristol, with an ear to ear grin, giving us the play-by-play.

how much longer do we have to wait for cheney and bush to be impeached?

this is the final straw, the lies, deceptions and falsification of reports.............

the American citizens deserve an hones president........bush is NOT !!!!!!!!!!!!!

an appropriate question here is--

where are these nukes now? do bush/cheney have them hidden for after they leave office?

"If it’s possible to make Bush look any stupider..."

No there isn't. You can't make an empty cranium more vacuous.

Golllleeeee! First he gets us all excited about WWIII, and now it sounds doubtful. Don't these dummies know how insecure it makes people feel to think they might be about to enter a nuclear war, only to be told 'Hold it', things have changed?

What the hells going on? If we're stuck with this Ignatz of a president for most of another year, couldn't we at least change 'gods', for christ's sake? Get another figment to whisper in The Dummy's ear at night? Someone with a more consistent, rational approach to nuclear war?

Please stop attributing the actions of the president to his stupidity. It hides the reality of it, that this is all done intentionally, not out of ignorance and stupidity. Bush is no genius by a longshot, true enough. He also is not the complete idiot that it is tempting to believe it is. To dismiss the war cries of Cheney and Bush as founded in ignorance, stupidity, or incompetence is to let them off the hook for doing things they are fully conscious of doing.

They should run the whole bush tribe out of america there nothing but traders, and thives. Old man bush got his payday after the first gulf war and he was out of office, he went to kawuit and got his paycheck that way he dosent have to let the goverment take it as a gift. The basters all lie and steal for there oil buddys, that is why were in iraq.

This is typical rethoric aimed at the dumb americans to sell them an Iran war.
Because people who do not think for themselves actually buy the crap.

Remember this is brought to you by the same people with the chemical weapons making trucks and like, created for the people that supported the war.

These people are not dumb or like. They are a lot smarter then many might think.
Any fool can be a common thief, but the big boys are among the smartest.

Worse, they know the people are dumb.

I think everybody that's conscious and down with the peace movement needs to get on the same page about something (and i'm one of em)... bush is not an idiot. He may well be the most craftful political figure we've ever seen. Don't think for one minute that all those word fumbles and play dumb hijinks aren't thought out. That's evidenced by what the mainstream media as well as the mainstream democrat crowd do everytime he fumbles, they laugh and focus on it. He's throwing the fools a bone and many are eating it up. Ever heard him talk before this dumb, down home routine came up... lets just say he knows exactly what he's doing... which makes it all the more scary.

Makes me wonder if The NIE and the Pentagon are the true diplomats and Mr.Bush is just a figurehead driven by the neoconservative ideals. It gives me faith in America that there are sensible poeple, of all places in the American military and Intelligence service to take a stand against widely biased media there. No wonder Colin Powell resigned when he was surrounded by individuals he referred to as the "crazies".

What did he know and when did he know it...

We are the recipients of his propaganda.

there.is.this:perhaps.Bush.really.didn't.know...still.makes.him.stupid...

I don't know whether to feel happy or not. If we're not going to war with Iran next year to rally the country for a Republican victory I guess the White House has to ignore another 9/11 attempt? They have to pull something out of a hat and it'll either be foreign or domestic.

don't worry, the watchdog press will return when a democrat is president.

Although the report was held up for a year, Israel must be apoplectic about its release! B.b.b.b.b.but wh.wh.what ab.b.b.bout attack.k.k.k.ing Iran? This is a serious setback to their plans for Greater Israel and to finally rule the world. Heck!

It's too late .....he's already working on WW IV .

When is this psychotic, mass-murdering war criminal going to be brought to justice?

Bush and the neocons may be stupid, but so stupid that they didn't know this.

C'mon folks, they're trying to sell another war again..that's what this is about. 9/11 provided the ideal pre-text to lauch the PNAC agenda.

Not being an American in America, perhaps I don't really understand how insular/closed off the nation really is. Do you really think that China & Russia just wait for the American NIE to come out to work out who is a threat & who isn't!?

PS. To all the people who think Bush is stupid: If he is so stupid, why has he managed to consolidate more power than any previous president, ride roughshod over convention, law, constitution & get away with it? He may appear stupid, but the man (or those behind the man) are incredibley crafty & downright dangerous to the U.S. & the world. Dismissing the man as stupid has allowed him to get this far.

This administration has done what would to most rational people seem to be the impossible, they have made Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad seem more credible then the President of the United States, supposed “leader of the free world”.

You absolutely have to ask yourself where is this all going to lead…..the conspiracy theory folks are looking more and more rational everyday, is the goal to create an International Crisis that would allow Bush to stay in office (ala Rudy’s attempt at remaining Mayor after 9/11)

Why is this not on the front pages everywhere, It seems to me that this is a big story. I guess Ron Paul was right, but I knew that all along. Any free thinker would have come to that conclusion a long time ago.

If the NIE said that Iran was 6 months away from a nuclear bomb you'd say it was ghost written by Dick Cheney. As stupid as Bush may be, he's too smart to trust the so-called intelligence community with the security of the American people. Nothing's changed with this latest report, Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons, religious fanatics want them and the left is helping them any way they can.

These people try to start yet another lie. And this time it has been proven 110% they knew their case is based on lies -after all they were the ones who told them. (In case of Iraq, who knows? I knew at that time that there were no WMDs, and no Al Quaeda connection, but what do I know? I'm just a Biologist, and not the most powerful men in the world. Maybe they took that BS seriously.)
So we know they lied. They know we know. I repeat: they wanted to start another war. They threatened a sovereign contry. They threatened its leaders, its people; they tried to force them to their will. And they will get away with it, because no one will hold them responsible. The media, our politicians, everybody failed us, and let these criminals run amok, causing death and suffering everywhere.

It seems to me that at some point, Bush's rhetoric changed from "preventing Iran from having a nucular weapon" to "preventing Iran from having the KNOWLEDGE to make a nucular weapon."

Am I right?

If so, when did this happen?

alternatives:

either, Bush knew that Iran was not a threat and yet continued to beat the drums of war, in which case he knowingly and intentionally lied to the American people, and he should be removed from office, or

He saw the NIE, didn't understand it or ignored it, and truly believed that Iran continued to be a threat. In which case he's not necessarily a liar, but he has demonstrated his incompetence and should be removed from office.

which one should it be?

With the top GOP traitors jumping ship in the last few months there is evidence that the jig is about up. We need to have a Madame Lafarge web site where we can begin to collect the names and evidence against the international criminals who murder, steal, lie, cheat, and plot against our people and our country. Maybe i'm the only one who starts to get tired of hearing the "stupid bush jokes" but after awhile, its just not really funny anymore. i bet half the people that make comments about what bush says and how he said it probably supported him for his 1st and 2nd presidential elections. Just because someone isn't good at public speaking doesn't necessarily make them the worst person alive. And when we went into the Iraqi war, we didnt know what to expect, sometimes things work, sometimes they dont, no president ever went to office and said," I think i'm going to be the worst president ever." So just calm down with the jokes and humor and except the fact that he is our president, and we should always respect them.

They will continue to spin it as Iran is "thinking" about acquiring a nuke.

Don't you know? Thought IS a crime...

Radical Islamic Regimes cannot gain control of nuclear weapons. They will one day use them as a bargining tool or even worse use them on western interests. It's no secret they want to wipe Israel
off the face of the earth and destroy western civilization.

Why can't you all wake up and join us to deal with these parasites of the world?

Wow. This is truly amazing. You folks HATE the intelligence community in any other context, but here, you're quick to ignore their past failures and to ignore the possibility that they're engaged in a little CYA... And, you want to hate Bush so terribly that you're willing to trust a raving lunatic instead. Just in case anyone's wondering, enriching uranium (which Iran has claimed over and over they're doing, successfully, while refusing to let inspectors get a second look), is the first step to making nuclear weapons. Certainly, Iran may have put their program on hold (any other conclusion is wishful thinking), but the fact rmains: they were relatively recently developing a weapons program, and they're currently doing what's necessary to restart that program at any time.

Enriching the uranium is the difficult and time-intensive part of making a weapon. The rest is relatively easy. I hope you're all right that Iran is more rational than they've demonstrated, that they love America, that they're not serious when they speak of destroying Israel, etc. etc., because if you're wrong...

These two miserable lower than life bastards should go straight to jail.

Seems like this topic has aroused the cool-aid drinkers and if you pay attention, they are using the SAME lines that were used pre-Iraq. Same lines each scumbag uses when trying to hide their real intentions.
And the dumb sheep just follow and drink the cool-aid.

These fools are the ones getting played and they will never figure it out.
Until it is to late of course.
And then they will blame the liberals again.

Has anyone given any thought to a solution to this? I believe we should clean out the House of Representatives and the Senate, start a lottery whereby all Americans will have to serve a year as a public servant. They will have to take some training and they will get paid, plus get their old job back when they are done with their public service.
Who should be president? Well, maybe someone who DOESN'T have alot of political experience (i.e. someone who has not been bought). Let's clean out the lobbyists and self-servers who have made our government corrupt. We are the people who have to do it, they won't regulate themselves.
If there are this many people who want things to change, why doesn't anything get accomplished?

Well put yourself in our shoes. Imagine how tired we are of a President who gets in front of a podium and lies to us and everyone else on a daily basis. You should NOT always respect your President you damn fascist. America was founded on saying "F&#% YOU" to oppressive and dishonest superiors. I guess you think the Founding Fathers should've just shut the hell up and respected King George III huh? It is time to rid ourselves of our own King George, just like they did.

J/K Right? I mean really, if you're serious about this, how are you able to spell and stuff?

Impeachment is off the table. Anything the President did before the Iraq invasion -- that he might have done against in re Iran -- are not reviewable.

Nothing can be done. We live in a dictatorship.

The President is above Congressional oversight. He is not required to respond to any question. Congress is not required to have any information before it rubber stamps. it doesn't matter if it is the GOP or DNC in power: Facts are meaningless, rubber stamping is paramount.

Congress has been under both the GOP and DNC a good lapdog.

It does not matter if Iran has nukes or not - the administration is going to bomb Iran for the same reasons they bombed Iraq- the leader of Iran is planning to stop using the American Dollar as the basis of Oil trading, just as the Iraq leader was planning to do. It is not about nukes - WMD - or terrorists for that matter (WE are the terrorists of the world) - it is about preserving the dollar as a benchmark.
The confounding problem is that all of OPEC is now planning to switch to another currency. This will bring our economy into dire peril and will certainly be the begining of WWIII, as the administration will find some reason to bomb the others along with Iran.
It's all in the Bible folks.

I think no one stopped the Nuenberg trials just because Goering and the bunch didn't break any laws.

Actually I think this is a break by Bush from many of the right wing war hawks in his administation. The report was most certainly approved by the president to be released to the public. This may be a step away from war.

But still, Kucinich ‘08!

So he's against the president of Iran(like the whole world isn't against him(moron Bush). Why didn't he have him killed a month ago when he was speaking at some college? No don't do that. Instead let him into the country do nothing, and than bomb the shit out of his country. This bumbling bafoon needs to be put in a mental hospital. It's obvious we have a crazy man fucking up this country.
