If You Are Thinking About Buying a Book This Holiday Season

And even if you weren't already, perhaps you might. If so, the General has a worthwhile suggestion for you. To me, this kind of thing is what this time of year is all about.

I was expecting a book recommendation, not a book STORE recommendation. :)

No thanks. Inflation and an uncertain future has ended our days as impulsive or compulsive spenders.

There is a local bookstore here where I live that I support. We had a Borders move in to the shopping center and it looks like our little bookstore might go under. What a damned shame. Good luck to all the locally controlled bookstores fighting the good fight against the mega stores, but it doesn't look good. Fuck!

Without cheap and abundant energy we are all screwed.

The United States was built on cheap and abundant energy.

The Oil and Energy Robber Barons are basically killing us off.

L.A. Confidential @ 5:

Just a coincidence

Of course with public outrage, we were told there was nothing that could be done about it. Refineries were off line. Crude was too high, world wide demand was forcing up the price. We grumbled and willingly paid and then found out that Big Oil scored a 35 billion profit in one quarter.

Has anyone seen that scumbag John Kyle on Blitzer's program?

What a lying piece of garbage. We don't torture, waterboarding
isn't torture, it just makes some people feel queesy.

This is the leader of the Republicans.

Of course, Blitzer balanced his program out with
Dianne "Double Death" Feinstein.

Speaking of books, check out the Washington Post's book review section today (Sunday) and Alan Dershowitz's review of Billo's book Kids are Americans Too. It was SCATHING! Billo got owned! Sample: "This book is so riddled with errors, inconsistencies, bad advice and hypocrisy that by O'Reilly's own standards--we must not 'leave children exposed to harm'--it should be placed in the adults-only section of the bookstore. Or better yet, with the joke books."
Billo's head will explode when he reads this.

Sadly, my experience with independent book stores is that they have an inventory of about 80% bodice rippers on the shelves. Used book stores are even worse. Half-priced Books is about the only used bookstore I've been to that puts a limit on that useless crap. Sorry guys, but there's a reson I prefer places like Barnes and Noble. They have a SELECTION.

Absolutely brilliant explaination of hoe the NIE report on Iran is "besides the point". Hilarious!

There is NO bookstore in the town I live in. I have to drive three towns away to find a store. OK, I lied. There's one Christian book store and a library outlet where they basically give away books like the 1950 encyclopedia britannica (missing half the volumes).

I hope everyone supports Jackson Street Books

Done. Found everything I was looking for too.

Wow. Thanks, billw. And please do support your local independent stores, whether they sell books or anything else.

Sorry for a bit of blatant promotion but this article on Upchuckabee was to good to pass up passing on.

And now that there is no one here, thanks jr and Colleen. Tammy and I love your support. And AF, if B and N serve your needs, great. Just remember that their clerks are underpaid, and the selection is not as great as you may think.
