Countdown: Bushed! on Blackwater, Commutation & Gonzo

icon Download | play icon Download | play (h/t Heather for vids)

Countdown's Bushed! segment takes a look back at Blackwater (look for future Blackwater scandals, there are many), Commutation, where White House Press Secretary Dana Perino refused to comment on the Scooter Libby case even though he's dropped his appeal, after suddenly remembering that Valerie Plame has a pending civil suit, and of course Gonzo -- what's up with that ABA lawyer of the year award anyway?

The ABA award goes to the lawyer who makes the most headlines in a year. It doesn’t say they have to be “good” headlines.

The Alberto Gonzales award shall henceforth be known as "Devil's Advocate of the Year."

I woke up to this, having a cup of coffee typing these words wondering why human beings including me put up with with this twisted, sick, government when the obvious is so readily apparent. Impeach the son of a bitch and his vice president, they are criminals responsible for a great share of the death and misery extant on this planet today. But, no we will be inundated with the latest bullshit and be expected to understand all this is to keep us safe, that medical insurance is socialism and hence very bad, that unions are just a front for the mafia or other crooks when in reality it is the wealthy owners who are the criminals for using the sweat of that labor without recompense to those who do the work other than some miserly wage that just breeds more misery and lack of anything that benefits humanity, and they call that free market capitalism, a beautiful white ship sitting in a sea of shit.
Fuck 'em all.

I think it is kind of like when Hitler was TIME's Person of year right ?...not REALLY an honor...and he did singlehandedly destroy American Justice as we know it- that is what makes him Memorable right?

Someone from the ABA pointed out that Time's Person of the Year has included Hitler and Stalin when he spoke about their selection of Gonzales (i.e., it's not necessarily an honor).

So it is official, Gonzales has been compared to Hitler and Stalin. :)

At the rate we get Bush Admin scandals, Keith could be doing this series long after The Shrub is gone from office.

Not certain if this is old news: The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee voted on Thursday to hold two top aides to President George W. Bush in contempt of Congress for refusing to cooperate in its probe of fired federal prosecutors.

Progress?

I'm still agog about Alberto Gonzales.

Intrinsic in the Blank "Of the Year" recognitions is a level of admiration.

Using TIME's decisions to honor Hitler and Stalin as a rationale, seems incredibly fatuous to me. Two bads make a good?

At a time when lawyers and the law profession aren't held in very high regard, this proclamation CAN'T have done a spot for credibility.

The ABA has made a stupid decision, one that cheapens that organization. I only hope its membership lets the leadership know how incredibly humilitating this message is.

Only if anything actually comes of it. In a more rational time any one of these scandals would be enough to throw the bastards out.

Lawyers have no shame. The ABA will soon get their Medal of Freedom.

Perhaps just trying to increase web traffic? Reading their online journal, http://www.abajournal.com/magazine/lawyers_of_the_year_2007_2008, it is clear that this isn't an award of admiration.

Yea, just found this: That’s because all a Senate vote does is refer the matter to the U.S. attorney in Washington, D.C. His name is Jeffrey Taylor. And his last job before this one was as a senior adviser to former Atty. Gen. Alberto Gonzales, whose machinations involving the eight fired U.S. attorneys started this whole business in the first place. Who says Washington is an irony-free zone? -- http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/politics/blog/2007/12/rove_held_in_...

Lunatics running the asylum. Crooks controlling the Justice department. Jokes on all of us.

Don't forget: Chimpy shares that same honor.
