Congressman Wexler calls for Cheney Impeachment Hearings
By bluegal Friday Dec 14, 2007 11:15amWith all due respect, Mister Vice-President, we got yer subpoena right here...
From Congressman Wexler's website:
Unlike the show trial put on by Republicans against President Clinton, a proper impeachment hearing would involve a fair and objective presentation of the facts without hyperbole or political gamesmanship. The hard evidence that is presented at the hearings will be judged fully both by Congress and the American people. The evidence alone will determine the outcome, and if it is determined that Vice President Cheney committed "High Crimes and Misdemeanors" he should be properly impeached and put on trial before the Senate.

Oh, please, oh, please, oh, please.......
It would be the best Christmas ever!
If the trial starts today - he should be CONVICTED BY TUESDAY!
Good to know this is happening...but calm down dude! You sound like your about to announce the new heavy weight champion!
Robert Wexler likes things I like: impeachment hearings, peace, love, cocaine and hookers!!
I salute this man for he is a true patriot.
Didn't Kucinich do this months ago? As usual, DK is waaaaay out in front.
What? You mean there's a greater threat to Our Nation's Democracy than Bill Clinton getting a blow job? My God, what hath we wrought?
will not, will not, will not happen. i have NO more hope that these clowns will pay any price whatsoever. too freaking late, too freaking weak dems.
Marcus Aurelius @ 5:
You Kucinich supporters are idiots! Instead of making smartass remarks, you should instead focus on welcoming people when they join your side. It's far more effective, as no one likes an "I told you so!"
Online Petition to Replace Pelosi as Speaker of the House of Representatives to Advance the Impeachment Process
By submitting a Question of Privilege, any member of the House can put forward the process to remove a seated Speaker of the House! If you want this administration to be Impeached, please read over the petition and sign on!

EricM @ 8:
A bit over the top, don't you think? Why don't you save the idiot comments for trolls. I'm not a huge fan of Kucinich (or anyone who's running), but he does deserve credit for putting impeachment on the table and being consistently, unequivocally against the war and war funding.
Save your vitriol for the real jerks, please.
Senator Schumer is the leader for dems to be reelected and is using the 06 plan.
They cave to everything like Iraq and then run against it. They are politicians and the only thing they care about is getting reelected.
Schumer and Feinstein gave us the new AG still blocking investigations like the CIA destroyed torture tapes to keep their strategy working.
So, this will allow w to get everything he wants and there will be no accountability. The corruption of billions in Iraq will continue so the dems can get reelected.
Yeh mon.
EricM @ 8:
edited. That's enough. - sitemonitor
I'll believe it when I see it.
Oh, and here comes PiL to tell us why it would be a bad idea in 3... 2... 1...
The only problem impeaching Cheney he would be pardoned by his co-conspirator Bush before he left office, since republicans learned a valuable lesson during watergate, no sitting president can be impeached successfully, since his successor would pardon him, and reversing the procedure of impeaching the sitting vice president only guarantees the pardon from his boss...., it might be a success in making them leave in disgrace, but no real punishment exists, when the fox is in the hen house, he simply eats another hen...
well it's about freakin time....
jeez...
but what about george w..
ronnyg @ 7:
You are correct....just read that the Dem's are bending over again and have tentatively
agreed to permit "immunity" for the telecom industry. Just more talk and no show
Marcus Aurelius @ 13:
Thank you for verifying my assumption that you have the mental capacity of a 12 year old boy. Come back when you grow up and want to discuss politics like an adult.

grow up, people. please.
Both came in committing high crimes and misdemeanors.
Won't be hard to prove. Olbermann had a little list a few nights ago.
An interesting gamble would be for the Judiciary Committee to go ahead and hold hearings against The Speakers wishes. Pelosi seems rather vindictive, and might go through the roof if that occurred. However really, what would she do? She couldn't do much outside of stripping Conyers of his chairmanship, and if that happened I imagine the backlash would be so bad she would back right off.
Unfortunately I think John Conyers may be too much of a "Political Gentleman" to do such a thing.
"The road to hell is paved with good intentions!"
Marcus Aurelius @ 21:
No your original post was just silly and didn't add anything substantive to the conversation.
There are two types of Liberals. Thinking Liberals, and then there are Reactionary Liberals. You obviously fall in the latter, as you bring nothing to the debate but vile discourse. Is this how your ilk plan to sell a true Liberal Agenda to the rest of the country, through vulgar dialogue, and holier than thou condescension? I am a believer that critical thinking naturally leads to a Liberal world view, unfortunately not all Liberals are critical thinkers.
willyloman @ 9:
thanks for the link. i signed the petition. it was an honor.
The impeachement issue has been around for at least 8 months; first real petition I
signed up on was website: www.impeachbush.org and that was well over 6 months
ago..Petition now has almost 985,000 signatures, BUT nada/zero/nothing has been
accomplished, so now the petition(originated by Ramsey Clark) has apparently moved
away from impeaching bush-lite and is trying to re-active interest by bringing up the
"Impeach Cheney" bit. Good luck, but a total waste of time with current folks, supposedly
representing "We the People" in Congress.
EricM @ 18:
And "adult" like yourself? You're the one who started this by calling him that "adult" name "idiot". This is a place where we respect each others opinions and not stoop to name calling like a child.
Go back to whatever rightwing site you came from where you belong. Malkin would take you with open arms.
Uh...Marcus Aurelius and EricM? Your mommys are calling. Go to your rooms, please.
Wexler accused both Bush and Cheney of crimes but is only pushing for the impeachment of Cheney. In his presentation, he speaks of the duty of congress, the congressional mandate, the need for accountability, serious allegations against Cheney, the need to inquire to get the truth, the obligation to investigate, charges which are too serious to ignore, a duty to history, unlawful actions by Bush and Cheney, the rule of law and that all leaders must be accountable. To only pursue impeachment against Cheney and not Bush after listing all reasons impeachment is warranted strikes me as a bit odd.
Freya @ 28:
Why would you attack Marcus for defending himself? EricM attacked him and should be banned from this blog.
We don't like to ban people and do so only as a last resort. The "delete" button is really quite effective. - sitemonitor
It's not going to happen. Face the Facts.
Wexler and the others are just trying to keep whatever support they have shored up at this stage.
Greg @ 27:
Funny, I call the guy on his crap, so I am instantly labeled a Right Winger. How fun!
You my friend are just as close minded as the Right Wing Ideologues that we disagree with. Yes I said WE! It's fine if you want to continue the Right Wing Fascist tradition of exclusion, but I for one am sick and tired of divisiveness and the only way we can push a true Liberal Agenda of Universal Healthcare, Diplomacy over War, Ending The Drug War, etc is by returning civility to politics and offering a positive view.
So please feel free to stick your head in the sand even more. It's clear that people are more than willing to hide behind the safe confines of their computer monitor and say whatever disgusting thing comes to mind.
Turk Meister @ 29:
Perhaps, just maybe, the fear is that if bush is impeached, Dickhead Cheney will replace
him...and that would be even worse, if that's possible..
L.A. Confidential @ 31:
See the difference is the Cons went into full gear and put the pedal to the metal and went into action to impeach Clinton.
Dems just give us lip service.
EricM @ 32:

No, you became one of those reactionary liberal and attacked him like a child.
L.A. Confidential @ 34:
Same identical service Monica L. gave Bill....humor intended...
Greg @ 30:
I'll bite and say that my blanket statement of Kucinich supporters being idiots was rude and uncalled for. There are plenty of thoughtful, and lovely Kucinich supporters who really want to offer a positive agenda, just like there are with any other political candidate. However a long with them, you always have your fair share of bad apples.
To be honest whether he is a Kucinich supporter is irrelevant. I do get sick of this holier than thou insinuation from certain individuals that Dennis Kucinich is the only principled Democrat, which is just bullshit. Just look at the above mentioned Robert Wexler, and there are plenty more such as Russ Feingold, Jay Inslee, Bill Richardson, etc. Kucinich is hardly lost in the woods alone. I just get sick of people portraying it that way, which he occasionally insinuates himself (and Richardson called him on it in a debate.)
If nothing else, it will be in the record for history.
holding my breath....... turning purple now......
EricM @ 8:
the point is people should stop ignoring DK, as he is often right before anyone else.
Greg @ 35:
Oh don't be ridiculous. To your credit at least you post with your real name, which I respect more than someone who decides to post under a false moniker (especially one of a 2nd Century tyrant.)
Nevertheless think what you want. I don't care, if you want to shut off your eyes to reality then be my guest.
And how far is this going to go, considering only 5 Demo-pussy Congresscritters voted to continue with Kucinich's impeachment plan?
Barrett D @ 40:
I absolutely agree. I am just sick and tired of The Self Righteousness that can come from some of his supporters. It's obnoxious and I don't like it from any of the candidates supporters.
Otay @ 42:
You nailed it...see my # 26 above...
ronnyg @ 7:
couldn't have said it better. Every dem apologists like Daily Kos et. al have been saying what progressives have felt for a long time: the dems are complicit wimps.

Wow, you want to ask questions? Be real, nothing will ever happen as much as everyone wants it so I think this is grandstanding at its best. Cheney and Bush are above all of you and they know it. You are beneath them and they're laughing at you and your weak attempts to get to the truth and to produce substantial consequences for their illegal actions.
Nothing will happen to them, that's my prediction. Mind you, I hope I'm wrong but being a realist....
Wow the talk of a Cheney impeachment breads this much in fighting (I'm talking about the conversation on this post) I guess this is just how angry the people are that there have been no real hearings into what this criminal administration has done. and I agree that we need to welcome as many new supporters as arrive. but wouldn't it be nice if these assholes could get together and make an ad that shows the crimes of this administration in simple words and asks the question "if their actions are legitimate then why are they hiding everything they do?"
I know that not a single TV station or cable channel will air this ad, but you could get so much circulation around the Internet it would be just as powerful. Maybe even more powerful just becuase of the number of people who would see it.
Um.. not sure what to say. You sure you're not Dennis K in a mask? Ok.. then WTF have you been for the last 6 years? Huh? Really, why today? Sure you're not all coked up and just making some random video? Do you honestly think you are doing the
I believe the first rule of order is to call for a privileged question to put to the floor a motion for impeachment. After you do that, then let's talk about reality. Otherwise, you're just blowing air.
EricM @ 8:
How is supporting a candidate who came to the conclusion that Cheney should be impeached and then introduced a bill to get the ball rolling before anyone else had the balls to do so idiotic?
edited - play nice. sitemonitor
CNN is running a brief story about Bush getting his way again and the Dems caving in. Please we need the Democrats in Congress to get a message out to show that they have tried to stop something. To the American who works all of the time to pay for life and has little time to sleep and less time to read, seeing stuff like this will hurt the Democratic Party. Why don't we fight back? Wexler is now vocal and of course Kucinich always has been vocal, but we need to make all of our Congressmen start shouting. The Repugs have used the filibuster ad infinitum. If impeachment hearings were started against Cheney, what about Bush? They both should go.
To paraphrase Congressman Wexler from his Colbert Report appearance: "I enjoy impeaching Dick Cheney because it's a fun thing to do. Much like cocaine and prostitutes. If you combine them all, you'd probably have even more fun."

Actually I gave in and watched a full hour of Bill Clinton on Charlie Rose last night. This wasn't Bill made for Teevee. This was Bill in an open and intimate environment where he didn't have to follow a script and what he had to say really rocked.
Bill can out debate and most likely still out perform any politician in this country. It's to bad he always has to play it safe 98% of the time to please the MSM and the censors. Among other things.
He knows exactly what we need to do to get this country back on track.

Funny.
[xoites is not a site monitor. And if he'd pretended to be in a post, he'd be in trouble. As a fellow blogger and a long time poster here, he knows better than to do that. An actual Site Monitor asked you all to 'play nice.' That means quit your name calling-Sitemonitor]
I shall try not to be condescending or holier than thou, because I enjoy a good laugh as much as the next guy but really, boys, can't we all just get along? Now I know MA's frustration of being a premature antifascist and eric's hurt feelings at having been reminded, once again, that DK and not Richardson or any of the other candidates support impeachment (or " true Liberal Agenda of Universal Healthcare, Diplomacy over War, Ending The Drug War, etc ... by returning civility to politics and offering a positive view" ,for that matter) and Greg's impulse to protect the little guy (this is what is known as DK Projection) but can't we all get on point and follow the lead of that indefatigable blog commenter, Mike Myer, and, at least, sign one of these friggin' petitions or call that number he's always posting so that at the end of the day, we can tell our kids that we put in our 30 seconds to save the world? (If everybody would just reach deep inside and pull out their inner Kucinich, I know we would all be OK)
The Dems have no interest in doing anything but waiting Bush out. There several potential reasons for this, some good, some bad.
For instance, the Dems could be waiting until the next administration takes office so that Bush and the Thugs can't block investigations. If this is the case, they'll never be able to deal with the sheer Tsunami of criminality (due to all of the other things that need fixing in a big hurry, thanks to our "CEO" President). In fact, this scenario behooves the BA to commit even more chicanery, because it'll be left to the historians to figure it out (like Reagan and the arms for hostages treason).
A more nefarious reason is that the Dem leadership sees an opportunity to inherit the status quo. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
Then again, maybe the Dems are just feckless, appeasing, fools.
EricM @ 63:
No, you idiot (haha). sitemonitor is some mysterious ethereal creature that roams the posts and tries to make people behave. When something gets this freaking childish and the whole thread succumbs to some name calling idiocy, sitemonitor tries to improve the level of discourse. You don't come around here much, do you?
EricM @ 63:
Hey Eric...I would venture to say that most of use at this C&L thread have had enough
of you, so why don't you just sign off and go elsewhere for your off subject comments.
navyswan @ 66:
This is funny. You say I instigated name calling, but then several of you follow it up with name calling yourselves. Whatever happened to 'Two wrongs don't make a right." I guess that doesn't apply to political opportunism.
JustSickOfIt @ 52:
He is on the Judiciary comm. that would hold the actual hearings based on Dennis' priveledged resolution. This is a response to that bill that was sent to conyers, wexler, et. al.
He is just coming ourt with it to build support and it provides some political cover for Kucinich who could really use some support from the left.
What are you all thinking? Biden? Obama? No moral compass and that is why Dennis comes off sounding righteous because the others are openly supporting everything we say we disagree with...war, oil, coal, nuclear, corn, corp, bank, AG, etc.
Vote Kucinich in the primaries.
Doggiebobo @ 67:
No. I posted something completely legit.
Rep. Wexler is proposing something that is important to many of us. However the majority of posts I see on the various blogs is mainly "Well what took you so long?" Which is a terrible attitude to have.
Congress are like puppies, you have to use positive reinforcement for them to learn. When they do something right you have to say "Good boy!" not just "Dammit! Where were you five years ago?"
Alienating people is what The Republicans are good at, we should be better than that.
It's not going to happen because Democrats are just as guilty as Republicans in voting for making Bush's Illegal activities legal after the fact. And they are still doing it as in allowing ATT get away with illegal wire tapping.
Pelosi and Reid are no better than the Republicans they replaced.
EricM @ 68:
I called you an idiot because it was 1. ironic and 2. accurate. The thrust of my post was that you must be new here. Can't tell the difference between xoites and sitemonitor? Ha. You're welcome to stay, but just watch for a while. You'll get the hang of it.
EricM @ 70:
Kucinich did it first. Vote Kucinich.
Actually, Mike, I have been giving this a little thought since Wexler's call for impeachment and I think I know a way to put some real pressure on Pelosi and Conyers though, not being a blogger, I am not sure about the methodology. Sitemaster, is there any way, without publishing it on the blog, you can give my email address to Mike? If you can, thanks.
navyswan @ 72:
I'm well aware of what a site monitor is. If you had a sense of humor you might have noticed my remark was rather flip.
Marcus Aurelius @ 73:
No. He cherry picks the Constitution.
Okay, how about...
New Rule: you can have all the coke and hookers you want so long as the government is working
How's THAT for positive reinforcement? Think they'll go for it?
And if coke and hookers isn't your thing, well, feel free to substitute Jesus and "not gay" massages.
Just make the trains run on time. That's all I ask. My boss doesn't ask what I do with my Friday nights so long as the week's work is done.
EricM @ 76:
So you started this whole flame war shit because, deep down, you hate Kucinich and can't stand when people tell you that he's been right longer than whichever Congress-critter you get off on? Now it all makes sense.
Kucinich/Paul 08!
navyswan @ 78:

EricM @ 76:
What do you mean by Kucinich cherry picks the constitution?
Can you give me an example?
White privilege, American style:
Everyone else is responsible for the most horrendous crimes against humanity.
WE can lauch an immoral, illegal, wretched use of force against poor people of color; 5 years later we can start impeachment hearings while we run multi-million dollar campaigns to get elected to be President of the United States.
It's a win-win when you don't stand for anything except power.
Old Billy @ 101:
oops
adama7 @ 103:
Apparently blacks can be for "white privilege" too.
testIf impeachment goes ahead, I really think it will lead to Bush declaring an emergency, martial law, dissolving congress and making uses of all those signing statements. Your situation looks a lot like Yeltsin's Confrontation with parliament 1993 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boris_Yeltsin). Yeltsin was supported by the US, Bush is now supported by cooperate-US. However, I don't know if Russia had the right to bare arms. Even without firing a shot this may sway things for the people.
I hope things go better for you than it did for the Russians.

results? @ 50:
So how do you think we'll "get to the truth and to produce substantial consequences for their illegal actions."? Naysayers are holding us back by being so damn negative. Be positive and we may get the results we want!!!
So what's the holdup? get these serious resolutions to impeach bush and cheney out of committee and onto the congressional floor for an up or down vote. Let us know who the traitors are!
Impeachment of both war criminals is 'just around the corner'.
Henceforth all name calling will be relegated to the ribald section in the overnight thread.
noDemocracy @ 107:
I dunno. I think Bush is over being president.
Cheney, tho, yeah, he'll just start seizing stuff.
FreedomOfInformationAct @ 111:
Don't get too excited. Impeachment is NOT justice. Impeachment is just good government at this point.
There's no way BushCo will be convicted in an impeachment. We must proceed knowing that the ONLY reason (and reason enough for me) is to stand before the public record and have an accounting of the evidence.
But justice will have to wait for the judgment of history.
Holy Articles of Impeachment, Batman!!!! I'm almost excited. Could there be hope yet for 110th Congress?

Wexler would enjoy seeing Cheney Impeached and Imprisoned because it's a ______ thing to do.
JerryO @ 116:
It's not half a loaf, tho. Thing is, people will always be able to manipulate the system, get away with murder and smirk their way through lucrative speaking gigs where they take credit for saving the world.
Everyone wants to see Bush and Cheney in orange jumpsuits subjected to "harsh interrogation," and that's a nice fantasy to keep our bile up.
But we're after something more. We're after good government. We will soon have squeezed the whole loaf of the Bush presidency out from between the buttocks of state and flushed them down the sewer of history. Can't come soon enough.
But AFTER that, we have to have a government that we can justify putting the slightest bit of trust into.
Like Watergate. Impeaching Nixon would have been cathartic, but reforming election laws and presidential powers was more important. Sure, those new laws got corrupted and hijacked, like all laws, but without reform there would have been nothing TO corrupt.
We need to start thinking post-Bush right now. It's clear that the Democratic party (who we must all unflinchingly support without a moment's hesitation, until there is no love but love of Big Sister) is unable or unwilling to do anything about him while he's in office.
Good. Fine. I'm sure there all sorts of reasons why we should smile while eating the shit sandwich they're feeding us. Okay. Accepted. Whatever.
But AFTER that, we cannot allow what has gone before to stand as precedent.
Especially when OUR president starts pulling the same nonsense. "But but but...BUSH DID IT!" will become our rallying cry and we'll be no better than them.
Unless we stand up for what is right, right now.
THAT'S what's at stake. Not '08 or the "waste of time" involved in trying without convicting. It's our own integrity.
And it's dying.
What happened to the Bush impeachment hearings Wexler and Kucinich are preparing? I guess that during the evidentiary hearings on Cheney, more impeachable offenses will be brought to testimony against Bush so Bush's impeachment will be a foregone conclusion following the Cheney hearings?
"When impeachable offenses are believed to have occurred, impeachment becomes a mandate and not a choice to be brought forward by members of congress in upholding their oath of office". IMPEACHMENT IS NOT AN OPTION. IMPEACHMENT IS A MANDATE OF THIS CONGRESS - RIGHT NOW - WHEN WE HAVE A LITERAL PAGE OF IMPEACHABLE OFFENSES TO BE BROUGHT AGAINST BUSH AND CHENEY.
As for not having the votes or the concept of wasting time and taxpayer money, I can't imagine a more worthy use of taxpayer money and congressional time than to bring this capricious group of thugs in our highest offices to the justice they so deserve.
In fact, taken a step further, the case can be made that impeachment of these criminals within is a "MATTER OF NATIONAL SECURITY" - THEIR REPUTATION INTERNATIONALLY (AND NOW IN BALI) MAKING THIS COUNTRY LESS SAFE AND MORE DETESTED IN THE EYES OF ALL OF THE WORLD POWERS. Bush & Cheney are treasonous individuals who have placed the people of this once-great nation in jeopardy with their lies and overt corruption, war posturing, and destruction of evidence (aka obstruction of justice).
If we are ever to begin to resurrect our faltering reputation internationally and begin the upward ascent of returning integrity to this country, we must move for impeachment right now. If we wait another year, god only knows how much more damage these con men will do to our country, our economy, and our reputation.
IMPEACHMENT IS A MATTER OF NATIONAL SECURITY AT THIS POINT.
orion @ 119:
The real fear is the level of Democratic complicity.
Argument goes something like this: everyone pretty much KNOWS that Bush and Cheney and their Republican friends are crooks and liars. Proving it won't change anyone's mind about anything. But when we see how deep into this the Democratic leadership is, well, we'll all get disillusioned and not vote for the Democrats.
And as we all know, the only recognized duty of a congress person is to do that which helps their party win elections.
This is the sequence toward vindication of our democracy: INVESTIGATE, IMPEACH, INDICT, INCARCERATE.

justice will not have to wait because real justice is the unveiling of every impeachable offense making this gang of thugs impotent to do more damage to this country.
As for the complicity of the dems, I say "TS" - 'YOU PLAY/YOU PAY" and I join the 38% of voters who have taken their affiliation from the democratic party within the past year as they've become "part of the problem" instead of "part of the solution". The Dems may be complicit, but so be it. If they are, they, too shall be punished.
This is not about the Republicans or the Democrats. This is now a matter of NATIONAL SECURITY and the loss of our reputation as americans with the international community - making us far less safe than ever before.
I don't give a rat's ass how many dems are complicit. I say "bring it on!". If they're involved, they will be outed and to that I say "Good riddance to bad rubbish".
Making excuses and other CYA activities only worsen the problem. It's time to rout out all of the rats, regardless of party, and either create a third party or bring them to their knees.
The people Shall Overcome - yes, once again, the people within this democracy will take back control of our government.
I seem to remember that, "impeachment is off the table." Because impeachment is written in the Constitution, Ms. Pelosi's statement declared part of the Constitution null and void. When a link in the chain breaks -- one of the most important links, too -- the machine ceases to work.
It's too late. There is only one corporatacracy run by elites on interlocking boards. They fund the campaigns of the one political system comprised of two marginally different parties.

Whether a president violates one article of the Constitution or many, they are in violation of Federal Law and have committed impeachable offenses. The Bush/Cheney Administration have committed WAR CRIMES in addition to crimes of treason and violating the public trust daily. Kucinich's bill was hard pressed to keep the list of impeachable offenses down to a concise, three complaint, seven-page document.

It's not being reported in the corporate media, which also refused to publish an opinion piece penned by six-term Rep. Robert Wexler (D-FL), Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), and Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI).
But the truth is that these three members of the House Judiciary Committee who are calling on Committee Chair John Conyers (D-MI) to start immediate hearings on Rep. Dennis Kucinich's (D-OH) bill, House Res. 799) to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney, have already gotten 36,000 people to sign a petition at WexlerWantsHearings.com calling for action now.
Wexler has said he wants at least 50,000 signatures, and it seems certain he'll have at least that many by the end of today. But why stop there. If everyone at DailyKos were to go to the site and sign on (all it takes is 30 seconds of your time), he'd get closer to 500,000 signatures.
And if each of us were to send out a call to sign to ten of our friends, then we'd have half a million signatures, which would be hard for Conyers and the Democratic leadership, Speaker Nancy Pelosi included, to ignore.
So let's do it!
Go to WexlerWantsHearings.com - http://www.wexlerwantshearings.com/ and sign the petition!
Kucinich's impeachment bill was filed on April 24 and has been ignored now for almost eight shameful months. On Nov. 7, a bipartisan majority of 218 members of the House voted to send it from the floor of the House back to the Judiciary Committee for action. Now it's sat there for over four weeks.
We need to tell Congress, and particularly the Democrats who are stalling on this important defense of the Constitution and of democracy itself that time's up. We the American People want action! We want impeachment hearings!

Wexler's site ( http://www.wexlerwantshearings.com/ ) got 30,000 people to join the petition in the first 24 hours (that's 20.8 people per minute). At 1:51 PM Pacific, there are 40701 people who joined the petition, and the rate of increase has been roughly 27 people per minute for the past 10 minutes -- faster than the 20.8 people per minute rate of the past 24 hours. With 9299 people remaining to sign up, at a rate of 20-to-27 people per minute, this unfortunate request for proof of popular support (which should NOT be necessary for Wexler or anyone else in Congress to proceed) might be satisfied in 6 to 8 hours.
Sign up! Then we'll get to see how much integrity and influence -- or lack thereof -- Wexler has. I wish him the best in this effort. I hope the show of popular support helps give him, and others in Congress, enough backbone to take action. It shouldn't take a test of support like this to go forward, but, if that's what it takes, then so be it.
Hey EricM, stick around. The site is OK, and the guys on it are not as rough as they claim.
Neither the Asshole in Chief nor Cheney, will be impeached. But, one thing for sure, these motherfucker will be sorry the day they were born. Just wait and see. Just a matter of time.

R Hill @ 15:
This is why I think prosecution by the ICC or even an American agency like the ACLU would be more successful after the Bush administration is out of there. There's a problem with prosecution by anyone in the US though: as you say, a sitting American president could pardon a guilty finding by an American court. The ICC, OTOH, could prosecute the Bush administration for war crimes, and no American president could pardon them. The Geneva Conventions provide for criminal prosecution of individuals if a country is either unable or unwilling to try its own leaders for war crimes.
Even though a sitting president could NOT pardon a guilty finding by the ICC, Bush & Cheney have done their dead-level best to prevent their own prosecution by the ICC in the law cited below.
Congress needs to repeal this attempt by the Bush administration to avoid prosecution for war crimes, though many scholars think it won't serve to protect them at all.

Nancy's big mistake and regret, time for Impeachment
by Ferrofluid
Sat Dec 15, 2007 at 01:35:39 PM PST
Ok she has said she made a BIG mistake, and misunderstood the resolve of the criminal Rethugians to bunch together to avoid indictments trials and jail time.
"The assumption I made was that the Republicans would soon see the light,"
big mistake Nancy, not one that somebody in your position should be making.
Impeach GWB and Cheney or resign, same goes for the other Dems.
Support the Constitution you all swore (or affirmed) an oath to protect.
Pelosi Says She Miscalculated GOP Determination on Iraq
One thousand plus empty xmas dinner table seats this year, and grieving families due to her mistake, ie not cutting the Iraq war funding and (supporting) bringing the troops home
heres one to print and hang on the wall Nancy next to the $16,000 worth of flowers.
Will we be seeing another 1000 plus deaths and empty xmas dinner places next year Nancy?

Since Rep. Kucinich has been brought up in this thread I have to ask why people discount his actions in the matter of doing something about the criminals running the executive branch. He is the only elected official who is ACTUALLY doing something on this matter! The chorus of the herd is " oh Kucinich he is crazy you do not want to actually do anything this man proposes". Well please tell us who hear this mantra some facts to back up this meme.
I can not recall reading or hearing any facts to back this up, the only thing that is presented is "he is crazy" The media pounds this into everyones mind and everyone dutifully regurgitates the words. I know you will probably use examples that make him look quirky and eccentric, but I see those kinds of things in people in all stations in life and so do you. Show me some evidence that backs up what the establishment types keep repeating. Make me understan should not support the ONLY congress critter who is trying to get rid of the criminals.
I guess DK is teaching those DEMS who kept him out of Thursday's Iowa Debate, not to underestimate America's Progressive Party!
Cool.
And now, off to the shredders with Wexler (if Cheney gets his way).
