Hillary on Letterman; Huckabee on Leno

There's a big difference between Hillary's spot on Letterman and Huckabee's appearance on Leno. Letterman owns his production company and has signed a deal with the WGA and Leno's producers--NBC--has not; so Huck is crossing the picket line...
Mr. Huckabee on Wednesday professed his support for the striking television writers union just a few hours before he was expected to board a plane for a taping of the “Tonight Show” with Jay Leno where he will face a vocal picket line of striking writers.
Mr. Leno’s program is returning to the air for the first time since the strike began on Nov. 5. Speaking to reporters, Mr. Huckabee said he was unaware that he would be crossing a picket line and believed that the program had reached a special agreement with the union.
Typical Mike Huckabee. He is totally clueless on so many issues. Will Leno ask him if Pakistan is still under martial law?

a funny thing happened on the way to the theatre.
Scaaaab!
Mike Huckabee's joke about voter suppression:
"And if you've got friends and neighbors that won't vote for me, put all your snow in their driveway and don't let them out tomorrow night. Keep them from going anywhere."

Jaaayyysssus !!! Who cares about reality when you've got Jaayyyssus speaking to you in your dreams, and egging you to become president of America.
Say Jaaayyyysssus, brother. Amen.
senator clinton was just featured in this modern world as well!
You can tell Letterman can't stand Bush so I'm not surprised he has Hillary. Likewise Leno loves Republicans so I'm not surprise he has Huckleberry.
Woo...unannounced special appearance from First Lady Clinton on the popular Letterman's first show back mere hours before voting time -- a time when there's nothing left for her trailing campaign but to throw up one's hands and do anything eye catching...
Honestly, for all the talk about her campaign truly showing signs of desperation in Obama slugfests, this is probably the most desperately overt stunt.
YOU PEOPLE ARE TERRIBLE. The little baby Jebus must have told him to cross that picket line, otherwise he wouldn't be doing it. Why must you all criticize a man who is doing little baby Jebus's bidding?
There is no way Huck could have believed that. They had to sneak his SUV in through a back entrance to the show. It is going to be featured on local Southern CA news outlets.
Huck on the Leno show, "Thanks for having me on your show,Mr. Letterman."
Did anyone miss them while they were gone?
Did you miss the 25 minutes of commercials per hour episode you have to endure to watch late night TV?
The Council on Foreign Relations Entertainment Corporation proudly presents, "It smells a little like Democracy", featuring Hillarymart and her travelling banjo playing clown Huckles Chucklebee.
Huckelberry needs to learn the lingo. It's not unaware, it's "don't recall".
Sounds like a comedy of errors.
Ha ha.
"...Mr. Huckabee said he was unaware that he would be crossing a picket line and believed that the program had reached a special agreement with the union."
Huckabee=Liar
abarts @ 13:
Yea, how hard is it to be a Republican? You only have to remember a few words "I don't recall" and "No one could have forseen". Were it not for Huckleberry stance on quarantining AIDS victims I'd start to question his Republican credentials.
Andre @ 7:
Appearing on a talk show is a "stunt" these days? I guess it was a stunt when Obama appeared on Leno. You really need to get a grip.
If this sucker knew he wanted to run for President, why the hell did he not spend some time studying up on foreign and domestic policy.
I just don't get it when we continue to see these right wing jerks, all jumping in the ring to become President, knowing they lack the policy, knowledge and experience to hold that office.
This country has had enough of a dumb ass fool in office embarrassing us. This is not open season on our White House.
Where the hell are his staffers? They are supposed to keep him informed. They must be a pile of morons.
You NEVER cross a picket line. You just don't. The only forgivable instance would be if you had a person in imminent peril, and needed to cross a line of striking hospital workers to get him/her into the emergency room to save a life. That's it. Crossing a line to be on a frickin' talk show? Disgusting.
curtilingus @ 11:
Absolutely not because I do not watch commercial TV. And the commercials are what drove both me and my husband away. I watch c-span sometimes and Mystery! on PBS.
You are all so clever. It doesn't matter to you what someone does or says, it only matters which party they belong to. If the exact same thing plays out with a democrat, it's ok. You will find something to complain about any republican because that's what you're looking for. If you looked for something to complain about Hillary, you'd find PLENTY, but you don't. Try to find something of substance to complain about next time.
Cindy @ 20:
Huckahick is still a repug. When have repugs actually cared about the plight of the working class? The last republican president I can think of that was good on this issue was Teddy Roosevelt.
No really I just checked 8:00 television here on the west coast. A bunch of game shows. I just about puked. TV is unapproachable.
K.Lomax @ 22:
As for Hillary/Obama/Edwards comedy of errors, well the TV/Newspaper media is already doing this for us. So shut up and watch the news already, unless of course, you don't watch TV or read newspapers.
nonbeliever @ 18:
It's not about the appearance; it's about the type of appearance, its surprise nature and its timing.
Huckelbery obviously wants to have it both ways. He will be crossing a picket line so he can get his mug on Leno's show for publicity... but he also wants his adoring Republican fans to believe that he supports the writers too. SOOO Two-Faced!
Reminds me of the time that Bush campaigned for No Child Left Behind... then made it an UN-FUNDED MANDATE! Do you realize how many educators across the country STILL HATE HIM FOR THAT?
Andre @ 26:
She's appearing before a national audience. Any candidate would be happy to get that kind of exposure. I would agree that some of her past attacks against Obama may have hinted desperation. This, is just good PR in my opinion.
K.Lomax @ 22:
WTF dude, do you see any Democrats crossing a picket line? Honestly there isn't a republican that gives a shit about unions, collective bargaining, fair wages or safe working conditions. Judging from your comment, you're just as stupid as Huckleberry. And yeah, we are looking at republicans and complain when they do something that's wrong because this country fallen down a shit hole on account of them. To deny that as you are is delusional.
Rev. Huck said he didn't know. Look Rev. didn't know about the floating cross as he thought it was a bookshelf floating. Rev. doesn't know anything about Pakistan or any other country. He just wants your vote to be President so he can get some gifts. Look the GOP used God to get the White House twice and Americans fell for it, now Rev. Huck is using the same trick but saying he's bring Christ with him. Look for Americans to buy that lie too. All the Christians in American must be wondering what God is in the White House as all the actions show Satan's work. Will Rev. Huck be like the rest of the GOP Pastors who say one thing but do another, will Rev. Huck go after a little boy or girl like the rest of his Pastor friends. Only time will tell, as Rev. Huck made it to Hollywood.
Cindy @ 20:
Remember that we are talking about callous Republicans here who think working class people are serfs to be exploited. They don't give one shit about unions. They are self centered sociopaths that care only for themselves and their selfish gain. Remember when Reagan tried to bust the air traffic controllers union?
Huck just wants W's Bubble...Hell, he'll probably pick Cheney as a running mate and Gonzo for AG!
i'm changing channels between Robin Williams on Letterman (god damn funny guy) and sometimes check Mike Huckabee (Leno)
The Huckster will beat Romney for one reason: he is talking to people and to Leno as a jovial human being and not a salesman (Romney)
I once posted a deal to Fatwallet about how to get a good price on some sneakers that were not only cool and stylish, and on sale really cheap, but were made with union labor.
The people, normally so cheap as to jump on anything inexpensive even if it were made by enslaved puppies, were actually offended by my post. "Union? NO THANKS!" and such were the replies.
The anti-union rhetoric has been so successful that even trailer-park poor people in the red states act like I might as well have said the shoes were made by communist satan-worshippers.
Unions are despised in the US now. In the "right-to-work" states where people are exploited, those exploited have been brainwashed into hating unions. The "Blue Collar Comedy Tour" doesn't mean union-member working folks comedy, it really means "Redneck, misogynist, authoritarian, racist Comedy Tour" now.
My point being? This will in no way hurt Huckabee... if it has any effect at all it will help him.
No, he's not clueless. He's about as far from that as possible. He's playing ignorant in an effort to evade journalistic attention. He's a very very cynical man, who may indeed be sincere in his religious beliefs....but we're not looking for a pope, just a President.
TC @ 35:
i agree everything huck says is calculated, but he does it in a less salesmen way like romney
GO KO!
Cindy @ 20:
You're thinking like a Democrat. If you're a Republican, you damn well do cross picket lines. It's a badge of honor and gets you more Republican votes. Remember when Reagan fired the striking air traffic controllers?
bmw 528 @ 31:
Oops, I didn't see your comment before writing mine. You got it right first.
I usually never watch either but I'm actually excited about watching Dave tonight. From the little I have seen of him he has never seemed like one to bite his tongue, I have no doubt that he is going to lay into those greedy corporate pigs....and I don't mean Hillary, though that would be cool too. ;-)
Huckabee: "Unions? They still have those?"
Yeah, you see that with the mining species of redneck too.
Unions are the only reason they aren't dead, and they they are paid for the risks they take. But somehow over the last 20 years, they had enough koolaid to believe that this is a bad thing.
Eventually, it will be a self-correcting problem, as all they stop out all the unions so corporate cost cutting can ensure them black lung, or slabs crushing them to death (which is quickly covered up) before they can make replacement morons. Then the companies will need to recruit new miners from other parts of society, and most likely if they are sane, they'll say, "WTF?!" and organized for better safety and pay.
It's just sad to watch the decline, that's all. Self-hate... that's really all the Republicans boil down to now.
repubs will always be union busters
"totally clueless on so many issues" or just a big ol' liar?
I don't believe him or his campaign. True, he's clueless on many things, but the GOP is anti-union. To get on Leno, he'd run over any number of union members, little old ladies, children...
Helena Montana @ 43:
So ok, he didn't know Leno was scabbing. Fine. Then what?
He went ahead and crossed the picket line. So what actually happened?
First he lied (that lame excuse was prepared) Then he scabbed.
He didn't even have the balls to say, "I don't give a golly gee gosh darn about them thar unions folks. I am a Republican! We are the guys that hire the scabs so we can fire any uppity worker who thinks he or she actually has some rights."
Nope, no balls at all.
I just wish I watched the scab jerkoff Leno so I could stop.
Since I noticed his bias many years ago, I stopped then.
I do watch Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert though - but if they scab against their own union, I'll never forget. They will be dead to me. I am praying that I simply misunderstand and they are not gonna cross a picket line when they start back up next Monday.
I sure will be happy if that is the case. If not, I will never miss an opportunity to...
You'll find out - I'm still gonna hope for the best.
Official word from associated press. Nice nod below the line to each of the networks overlords. Now we can all see why this is happening the way it is.
You suggest that Huck may be clueless. How about just a common liar? What cross? Do you see a cross? Paul is dead. (It's "I buried Paul" , Huckster).
What's with the slogan behind Huckabee, "Enough is enough"?
"Enough is enough"?
They've been running this country virtually uncontested for that last seven years! They're complaining about being fed up? What more do they want?
Here is the joke for Leno's monologue that the writers wish he could tell....
Remember your mother's advice on voting and personal hygiene: "Stop picking the scab".
:)
Scab!
I honestly don't think Huck's all that clueless. He just acts that way in situations where he doesn't want to get his hands dirty.
when i was younger and worked as a union laborer i got into many heated arguements with some of my fellow laborers, they were suck asses with the union buisness agents from our union, they said they were going to vote for reagan, these were the clocksuckers that got all the good jobs , they were made supervisors, and stewerds on the good jobs , id argue that a good union man didnt vote for repigs,me i was a dam good worker but got shit from the b.as ,got kicked around by thoes who sent you out on jobs just because i didnt bring the buisness agents a fucking chicken or a ham i was never a suckass so sometimes id sit on the bench waiting for the ass kissers to get thier ass out to work, the point is these dumb fucks could afford to vote against the unions they owned them, but thru it all i still believe in the unions and thoes that dont can go fuck thierselves ,oh wait !they allready have!
Sailor Art Thomas, Jr. @ 52:
Huck's not clueless at all; he's (not subtly) telling America that with him in the WH it's gonna be open season on labor.
Huckabee was frightening on Leno last night. Smooth talker, no real politiking, playing bass with the band was a nice touch, came across as Mr. Friendly. If he gets the Iowa caucus it will be due in no small part to his crossing the picket line last night.
To anyone who isn't neck deep in politics, (knowing the background of his appearance and the details of the WGA strike) he seemed downright, *shudder* presidential. Too bad the rest of his campaign will consist of "I don't recall..."
I thought I saw the old, unlovable Hillary kicking off Letterman. That embarrassing situation of a humorless person in the position of pretending to be "just folks" telling a joke -- but not doing it well because, after all, they are humorlessly serious and, dammit, you better take them seriously.
Just watched both Leno and Letterman. I'm a big Letterman fan but have to admit that the Leno show was much more entertaining. Jay's monologue was longer and better than Letterman's. Leno played to his audience, mid America. Huckabee helped himself by appearing on the show. Gave him a national audience and he came off very well. (For the record I'm an independent supporting Edwards.) Letterman on the other hand was boring, pandering too much to the WGA. The opening Eugene Debs dancers were good.
However the top ten list , audience questions about the strike and the Bill Scheft WGA bits was overkill, boring and unfunny. Hopefully this was just a one night thing, but to be honest, I don't think the WGA made any new friends last night.
How come you didn't mention Romney?
He appeared on the 'Moron, I' Salt Lake City cable show, and was a smash.
Hillary on Letterman; Huckabee on Leno
Leno's into gay baptist sex?
This asswipe has the intelligence of a mushroom. Either that or he is playing stupid when he thinks being stupid, thoughtless and uninformed will get him off the hook for something he is doing which he knows to be wrong. If it is the later, he is - in the process of playing his stupid game, cynically insulting everyone in the country. What a friggin' douchebag.
I'm sick of hearing about these unions, get your ass back to work, the only thing a union is good for is getting undeserved benifits and keeping stupid employees on the job...
It is not about if Huck is capable to be President, we can discuss that another time.
It is the Theocratic fundamentalistic Republican base that is proping Huck up. Remember, Rudy and McCain both did their speeches at Pat Robertson's " Only I speak with God" School for endorsement.
Huck didn't but it sems he draws the Christian worrior's favor. The rest of the Repub party are concerned they lost their party rule.....................that is the free marketeers ( Not three Musketeers) that feel the loss of Party control.
#61 Bowl week Says: I’m sick of hearing about these unions, get your ass back to work, the only thing a union is good for is getting undeserved benifits and keeping stupid employees on the job…
Not having a good day at the non union office are you?
The Republican Party is a union of sort and you fit well at the party's bottom. Under the free marketers, religious zealots, middle class that believe they are like the wealthy or their nobility.
Huckabee sure does lie easily, doesn't he?
Speaking of crooks & liars, has anybody mentioned Hillary?
Why are democrats supporting Jay Leno and watching his show, when he is breaking the union with having his show, while the union workers are striking.
Letterman has made an agreement with the union and have supported the workers and come to an agreement. Jay Leno is too damn cheap and only cares for himself.
This is the reason democrats are losing their power on a daily basis in our government policies and actions. They have no respect for the policies of our party when it pertains to their action or enjoyment.
Why are our democrats beating our candidates to death with their stupid a.. comments about BS and un-documented articles.
Democrats are beating the h... out of our candidates and the republicans which are posting their BS on these and other democratic boards are laughing their a.. off.
Where are the important issues about the war in Iraq/Cheney's coming attack on Iran and Syria/the billions of tax dollars to get Bush's war for oil going/Bush's illegal spying on our nation/Bush creating permanent bases in Iraq and our democrats agreeing with it/our jobs shipped overseas/our social programs being deleted/our land&resources being sold to corporations and foreign nations and the destruction of our constitution, the destruction of our military while building his own private mercenary religious conservative army , which he can use control our citizens and take over our country , when he creates or claims a national disaster.
Democrats talk of republican sheep , but if they would just take a good look at themselves and their actions, they are being controlled as much if not more then the republicans.
cv @ 47:
From the linked article: "Comedy Central's topical nightly comedies, "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report," will return Monday without striking writers."
Breaks my heart.
Huck was superb on Leno. Whomever got him on that show is either a genius, or knows how to spread walking around money on the ministers at GE/Peacock. (And who could that be?) The line that I think helped him win - people would rather vote for the guy they work with than the guy who fired him. He was warm and personable, rather than distant, aloof, and manufactured (think Mitt & Hill). I'm a Dem, and an Obamaniac, but last night, Hick-He-Be became Aw-Shucks-I-Beat-The-Phony.
And sorry writers, including the ones I went to school with and almost became...the public puts their foreclosures and gloomy economics over the perceived catfights of connected well-to-do mediots arguing how much more money they should make over anything requiring no more physical labor than typing or lifting coffee cups.
I just realized that the noisy people posting here are the minority.
