What About John Edwards?

God love him, John Edwards smacks the media who insist on making the Democratic presidential race a two person one and treating him as if he doesn't exist:

You go, John!

In related news, Edwards had taken jabs at Obama and Clinton (maybe then the press will mention him, you think?) but set his most pointed comments to Bill "There are no homeless vets" O'Reilly:

Tonight, 200,000 brave veterans will be homeless, and they will sleep in shelters, on the streets, under bridges, and on grates - and Bill O'Reilly doesn't think there is a problem. For someone who spends a lot of time shouting about patriotism, you would think he would be outraged by the treatment of our homeless veterans. How many more will it take before we wake up and solve this crisis?

While George Bush and Bill O'Reilly continue to ignore our homeless veterans, the American people, whether we are Democrats, Republicans, or Independents, must speak out and stand up for those who have stood up for us. We must do everything we can to solve this terrible problem - and we must begin by reaching out to these men and women who are suffering - not pretending they do not exist. After our veterans have served our country honorably, isn't one homeless veteran one too many?

Paul Rieckhoff from IAVA wants you to know that Edwards got it right and Billo is just plain wrong. He has an open letter/petition that we'd like for you to sign telling O'Reilly to learn more about this serious issue. Kudos to Edwards for leading this awareness.

Sure would be nice if a few hundred homeless vets marched on O'Rielly's studio.

If Edwards believes that the media is "treating him as if he doesn't exist", what does that say about the Democrat's and the media's treatment of Congressman Dennis Kucinich?

I'm an Edwards supporter. It's no two-person race for me!

That is the reason i have already given up on this so called "process." It is nine months before the general election and MSNBC argued that they had to narrow the focus down for the voters. They did that for me? That did that for me?

No, that did that to me!

He would say the same thing. The problem is, national polls have Edwards as the most likely to win against the repugs and the media treats him as a halogram. He was in the debates and then he disappears.

Hannity sucks ass!

i'll be seeing john on saturday, very excited!

If the media decides to anoint Obama or Clinton, I'll write in Edwards. Otherwise I will NOT allow them to determine my candidate. As I said to those useless Dems, my vote is MY vote. I voted for Ralph Nader, and I am still proud of that vote. Id' vote for him again if he ran. Screw the Dem machine. And take notice Dems, there are probably many more lie me out there, outraged that you Dems have taken impeachment, the only remedy for our country, off the table. For that alone your party deseres to go down.

You have to remember that most of the people in the MSM make lots of money. Why would they want JRE to upset their status quo?

Paul Rieckhoff is a hero in more ways than one.

And John Edwards sounds better to me all the time.

Good, you're not really a fascist are you?

you think Edwards get unfairly treated ? you should see the shit they're pulling on Ron Paul, he's been thrown down Orwell's memory hole, even though he's thrashed two to the gop's "frontrunners" handily.

I was a little surprised John didn't stand up for Kucinich being
left out of the debate the other night.

After the media has dissed him so often, you would think he
might have brought that up at some point?

where else in Calif is he showing up?.I know about LA.....I was hoping he would be coming to the Bay Area.

I have nothing against Clinton or Obama, but on Feb. 5 I will cast my vote for Edwards.
I am looking for the candidate that may best represent me and my family, and lead my nation out of this giant mess that the Repugs put us in.
My interest are strictly selfish, and I will not be voting just to further some politicians political career.

He may have said something, but how would you know if the media doesn't cover him. Look at this example: Fred Thompson is barely a blip on the radar screen and look at the coverage he gets.

Kucinich along with Gravel and Ron Paul are all serving time in the MSM memory hole, Paul managed to climb out briefly when fox gave him a reprieve for the debate, only to try and smear him as a "9/11 truther" , a "racist", "unAmerican" etc etc etc

It's a temporary moniker in "honor" of Jonah Doughboy. Sorry.

Ooppps. Forgot this nugget from that article (linked above):

"Mike Williams, the director of government relations at Credit Suisse Securities, said of the network of lobbyists supporting Obama: “I would imagine that it’s as large as the Clinton list,” in reference to rival presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), who is an entrenched favorite of the Washington Democratic establishment."

Great ad, and great leadership by bringing up yet another important, yet ignored issue.

I'm so proud to support Edwards and will give tomorrow on the 7/Mil in one day grass roots contribution challenge for Edwards.

I remind others to donate some cash tomorrow to this great candidate! John Edwards is my voice in this race and and I hope for the sake of the country that he's elected president!

I have been saying for 6 months now-Obama will NOT be elected president. Clinton(both of them) will NOT be elected president. If the Dems want thier hopes dashed beyond all belief, then keep pushing these two. If either one gets the nomination,We will have a RePug in the White House. Very sad,but very true.

More good news for John Edwards
I just spent three days with my father (a WWII Vet, Teamster kind of guy) and a bunch of his pals, they are all(7 of them in their 8o’s) and all Teamsters. John Edwards message focused on the middle class, making it better for the next generation, not taking PAC MONEY, one million more jobs, is really resonating with this group of hard working older gents. They were all well aware of the media not covering his campaign.

Leslie over at No Quarter USA wonders which "excesses" from the 60's and 70's was Obama referring to? Civil rights, the second wave of the womens movement, the anti-war movement, environmental movement, labor unions etc.etc.....those "excesses"/

I just tuned into Billo and he's lying again. He's still on the homeless vet issue but now he's chanign his whole tact, because obviusly he knows he's wrong. Instead of saying the Edwards is wrong on the number of homeless vets he's saying the Edwards is lying about the reason for all the homeless vets. He's playing up the issue of addiction to drugs and alcohol. As if the reason for homelessness changes the number. Typical smarmy O.

obama loves him some reagan!

It's not so much that they ignore him today, it's that they've been intentionally marginalizing him for so long. Just as they do with all the anti-corporate candidates Gravel, Kucinich, Paul, Dean, etc. Until we do something about it like demanding debates from non-corporate organizations in the future.

Big Media is controlled by 5 people: Jeff Immelt of GE, Rupert Murdoch of News Corporation, Robert Iger of Disney, Richard D. Parsons of Time Warner and Leslie Moonves of CBS Corporation. If you include the Director of the propganda network Corporation for Public Broadcasting (of which NPR is a part) and the CEO of the Sinclair Group, it's seven people. As demonstrated by the acts of the corporations under their control, they appear to be determined that it will be they who dictate who will be candidates, and no others:

Anybody who breathes even the slightest mention of the Constitution, civil liberties,
human rights is excluded and aggressively ignored.

Anybody whose message is in any way unsympathetic to the corporate or banking agenda
is excluded and aggressively ignored.

Anybody who is sincerely pro-labor is excluded or aggressively ignored....

Ad nauseaum.

A lack of competition made possible by an irredeemably corrupt FCC, which has utterly prostituted itself to big corporate media - in betrayal of its duties to the American People, has given these corporations the means to do as they please without need to fear any accountability.

Anybody who speaks of forbidden topics is denegrated as a nutcase, as being non-viable, as being unelectable. These media corporations are controlling the dialogue and determing what will be the debate in this country. They are blanketing the airwaves and the print media with insipid bullshit, disinformation and pervasive lying. The one or two truthful token voices they allow to speak are easily drowned out by the din of the rest of their manipulative propaganda. Because this tiny handful of people are united in presenting only that which benefits corporate and banking America and their exclusive interests, it is a simple matter to effectively control the flow of mass-consumed information. They are hypnotists who have perfected their skills for the sole purpose of becoming skilled date rapists.

The people, and the propaganda outlets they run are no friends of democracy, or liberty, or freedom or human rights.

nobody wants a 50% vs 50% candidate....... people want a winner with a clear cut majority.

Republicans will always have advantage of rigging. So it's the Dems job to chose a candidate soooo gooooooood to soar way of the 60% mark and sail to majority victory

John Edwards? I thought he went when Dodd and Biden went. Ok, I kid. It is a shame that the media is in love with the power that it has. It wants to be the king-maker and influence the mind-less voters. John Edwards is a good candidate, but cannot compete if he does not get covered.

It's really all about Hillary. It's not even about Barack possibly beating her, but all about Hillary either winning or losing. The media fooled themselves for so long in believing that she was going to be the candidate that her story is always the central story. Obama makes Hillary's story interesting; Edwards does not.

In the end, though, the media will push for Hillary to win because she will be more entertaining to cover in the general election. Entertainment = Ratings = Profit.

The people, and the propaganda outlets they run are no friends of democracy, or liberty, or freedom or human rights.

all the more reason to contribute to Edwards campaign....

john edwards' wife elizabeth will make a fabulous first or second lady.

and it's absolutely hilarious that there's even any debate as to what to call bill if hillary gets elected.

Btw, it should be noted that BOR is in the process of changing up his argument with regards to homeless vets.

No doubt BOR is catching some heat for his denial that there's a large number of homeless vets in America (especially since it's widely known that Edwards got his numbers from the VA itself instead of his being clueless as BOR would have us believe). So, on today's "Radio Factor" (while talking about the choices people make in their lives) he managed to work in a way to spin it. Now, instead of talking about the number of vets who are homeless, he's taking the route that they [homeless vets] are under bridges because they chose to be addicts. He went on to say we need to find out the reality about the homeless vets and how they have chosen to live as addicts.

The 7 million Dollar Man

1/15/2008 at 7:52 AM EST

Okay so $7M raised on Friday - possible? Actually quite easy if you break it down to the ridiculous equation.

Our goal 70,000 people to donate $100: If 10,000 people read this post and pass on John's message to 5 more we get to 50,000 people.

If they then pass it on to 5 more we get to 250,000 individuals. Planning for only a 28% success rate (even my brother can bat .280 and he's terrible) and we hit our number.

Do the math, pass it on, hit the number.

Edwards is our future for all of the Right reasons, make sure the Right people know.

John is signed on for public funding. How that matters is each dollar you contribute (or spend) could count as $2 for the campaign, in the form of matching funds. How cool is that?

Come on, give a little. Doesn't hurt a bit.

John Edwards: $7 Million Dollars In One Day - Make It Happen
by KingOneEye
Sun Jan 13, 2008 at 08:01:30 PM PST

There's been a lot of talk in these parts about how the media is shutting John Edwards out of the race. He has been excluded from polling. His campaign events have not been covered. Other candidates with less to show for themselves receive more attention. Etc.....

All of the these things are true. And all of the solutions I've seen have merit. We definitely need to put pressure on the media to cover this election fairly. But the media is probably not going to alter course and suddenly exhibit a journalistic integrity that they haven't even thought about since their freshman year of college.

They need to be given a reason to change course; a reason that fits their definition of news.

So either Edwards could engage in a high speed police chase with Britney's kids on his lap and a missing white girl in the trunk, or he could raise $7 million dollars in one day.

nobody wants a 50% vs 50% candidate....... people want a winner with a clear cut majority.

Republicans will always have advantage of rigging. So it's the Dems job to chose a candidate soooo gooooooood to soar way of the 60% mark and sail to majority victory

If it wasn'r for the rigging of the votes, the vote would have been 60% or better.

I know a lot of people who are standing firm on casting their votes for Edwards in spite of what the media, the DLC, etc. try to dictate. It's incredible he has the support he does with all the powers-that-be that are fighting his candidacy.
And when is McConnell going to give up his blocking individual up or down votes on candidates to fill the positions in the FEC so Edwards can have his matching funds? What a creep.

That's a truly brilliant political ad.
I sure hope he starts winning a few.

Erroll @ 2:

If Edwards believes that the media is "treating him as if he doesn't exist", what does that say about the Democrat's and the media's treatment of Congressman Dennis Kucinich?

MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY!. All of a sudden Edwards is crying like a little bitch for being the "last one picked on the team". I sure as hell didn't hear him speaking up for Dennis, and against the way the fascist media companies have been treating him recently.

Perhaps you haven't heard him speaking up for Dennis IS BECAUSE THE MEDIA IS NOT COVERING WHAT HE SAYS.

Paul @ 77: Well said, what the USA needs is a majority of progressives in the Democratic party and
minority of centrists aka republican lites like Clinton.

Olbermann is about the only mainstream media source that gives Edwards any satisfactory quality coverage, even when they put Edwards-hater Lawrence O'Donnell on.

I just watched O'Donnell discount Edwards again on Olbermann. O'Donnell says that Edwards only resonants with the extreme left-wing of the Demo party like it's a bad thing. The mainstream media just can't stand Edwards. He doesn't fit into their lame-ass reporting scheme.

tyree @ 65:

obama loves him some reagan!

I was watching Keith Olbermann just discussing this and found it unusual that Obama would start pushing the name of Reagan like every other republican candidate all over the airwaves. Olbermann went over all the things that Reagan stood for that were so diametrically opposed to the democratic ideals, I was wondering if it is more obvious that Obama might be pandering to those independents and republicans in California. I also wonder whether this will really hit the MSM since it something that might be considered a negative towards Obama, and you all know that can't be allowed- only anti Hillary commentary gets covered or in the case of Edwards - totally ignored as if he didn't exist. I would also love to ask the caucus question to Obama in a form that might be, "Since you have the endorsement of the culinary union, do you feel that your supporters should count and be given more importance than those of the rest of the citizens or those who are working off the gambling strip and can't get to caucus?

I'm sending him some more tomorrow, too. And I'm sending all my friends a heads up about tomorrow.

Today, John Edwards starts a three-day barnstorming tour across the country, taking his fight for the middle class from the West Coast to the Heartland to the East Coast.

Over the next three days, John will visit Nevada, California, Oklahoma, Missouri, Georgia and South Carolina, clearly demonstrating his broad coast to coast strength - and his advantage as the only candidate in this race who can win both red and blue states in November.

Recent polls show highly competitive, dead-heat contests in Nevada, South Carolina, Oklahoma and other key states. Hundreds of volunteers have signed up, just this week, in all 22 of the states with primaries and caucuses on Tuesday, February 5.

"John Edwards is the best positioned to win all across the country, not just part of it."

Your help with a contribution means JRE campaign can put additional resources into states where the race is neck-and-neck. Your support continues to make a difference for John's (our !) campaign.

But I have to give credit where credit is due,Rasputin was the first one I saw in favor of Edwards. He got me thinking and digging.

WE KNOW WHO HAS CONSISTENTLY BRINGING OUR NATIONS ATTENTION TO THIS CRITICAL ISSUE....EDWARDS EDWARDS EDWARDS

On Tuesday night, in reference to our nation's homeless veterans, Bill O'Reilly said: "They may be out there, but there's not many of them out there. Okay? ... If you know where there's a veteran sleeping under a bridge, you call me immediately, and we will make sure that man does not do it."

He raises an important issue. Unfortunately, he got the facts wrong.

According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, almost 200,000 veterans are homeless on any given night in America, accounting for about one-third of the adult homeless population.

Sign the open letter to Bill O'Reilly, and urge him to set the record straight.

To learn more about homelessness among veterans, and to find out what else you can do to get involved, click here.

Talk Radio going Wild With "Vets under the Bridge"

Richard Greene has a radio program on Air America called "Clout". He is focused right now on Bill O'Reilly's comments about Vets sleeping under bridges. He just had Ed Schultz on and they are focused on this issue in a huge way.

Not only do we as a nation need to focus on how our VET's are being treated, that is the critical issue.

We need to remind people which Presidential candidate has consistently brought up our nations VETS and the conditions that they find themselves under bridges or caught in nursing homes (WWII and Korean Vets) trying to figure out how to pay for their care.

We know that it is John Edwards is that candidate.

Listen to Richard Greene and Ed Schultz of Air America they are going to stay focused on this critical issue.

Thank you John Edwards for bringing our attention back over and over again to our VETS and how they are being treated.

Cmon guy, don't put Ron Paul with anyone else. In the last couple of weeks we found out both frank Zappa must endorse Ron Paul because some libertarian thinks it and Bill Hicks was another good Texan like Ron Paul.

Why don't you all go over to a rePUG site and tell them the problem, I am sure they will understand, your situation better than us.

Ron Paul is a creep. That has little, very little indeed with John Edwards

Maybe Edwards message needs a better DELEVERENCE !

sorry to pester you Ron.......but who exactly is in prison...thanks for the article...but I didn't see anything on election officials from Ohio going to prison...you've piqued my curiosity.

Mud shark, I have to look this up too, but here you go. I guess it was only 2 convicted and they may still be out on appeal. It was awhile ago and I can't research all the details.

thanks for the effort Ron...

Rasputin - considering that you've just contributed, thanks for keeping the flame alive !

Its put up or shut up time! Forget the idiot trolls and blathering pundits, you can make a difference.

Tomorrow is the "raise $ 7 million dollars in one day drive for Edwards." You can tell the corporate media to stick it where the sun don't shine by making a contribution of what ever size you can:

https://www.johnedwards.com/action/contribute/form/

We need a real change. I am fed up of the "End justifies means" from Bush Admin. and the war and war profits. We need stop the funding for the terrorists all over Middle East.
I am fed up of the peasants fighting the feudals and the present day America is heading to the 17th century feudalism.
I am fed up of the same people getting elected over and over again.

We need to have a man of integrity who will stand for the commoners and fight for their rights. That might be JOHN EDWARDS.

If all the bloggers unite and demand fair elections and equal time for all candidates, we will win.

Hey it's not just the MSM who has been ignoring Edwards. Just after Edwards second place win in Iowa Mark Green owner of Air America did his Saturday radio program called "7 days in America" and spent the whole program talking about Obama Clinton Obama Clinton Obama Obama. Arianna Huffington Gary Hart and Katrina from the Nation were guest on his program and they all joined in to discuss the Iowa results. Arianna and Hart went along with Mark Greene's agenda pushing Obama Obama Obama/Clinton and failed to bring up Edwards second place win.

Now I have to give it to Katrina she attempted to be fair and balanced by bringing up Edwards second place win...but Mark Green swept her attempt to be fair and balanced under the so called "progressive" talk radio's rug.

Mark Green had a clear agenda and it was not to be fair and balanced,

Go listen to the Jan 5th program yourselves...you will hear what I mean. Really do not like saying this but Amy Goodman the day before the primary in New Hampshier and the day of she barely mentioned Edwards on her coverage of the race.

Perhaps before you are so quick to rip apart Kucinich in order to praise Edwards, you may want to try defending Edwards' involvement in Fortress, which has been heavily involved in Humana, which has not exactly been the best friend of the average working class person in this country. Simply another reason to support Kucinich and his advocacy of a single-payer health care system in this country, while Edwards' plan includes the insurance companies in the equation, thus making sure that profit is placed above the interests of the people.

Just a thought, but I wonder if the MSM et. al. is pushing Obama and/or Clinton ONLY, not because it's good exciting "change" [African-American vs woman] but that it's the best way to divide the Democratic party so the Repubs have a chance----when they should have NO CHANCE. We have once again been led away from listening to ideas, and are sucked in by constructed image making and limited choices. I'm protesting, and voting for Edwards on behalf of Richardson, Biden, and Kucinich.

I am saddened by the American politics abroad and here at home.

"let's get real: America's policies toward
Israel have not been a blessing to her. They have been a curse. George
W. Bush and most other Presidents during the last 40 years have
treated Israel like the proverbial red-headed step-child.

For example, America continues to furnish Israel's enemies with three
times more aid and assistance than it does Israel. Three times. Is
that being a blessing to Israel? America gives unflinching and
magnanimous support to militant Muslim governments such as Saudi
Arabia. There is no nation in the Middle East that has harbored,
trained, supplied, and supported more terrorists than Saudi Arabia. Is
that being a blessing to Israel? In addition, every time an American
President wants to meddle in Middle Eastern affairs, he insists that
Israel give up land for peace. President Bush is doing that very thing
anew and afresh at this very moment. Is that being a blessing to
Israel?

Let me assure the reader (if he or she needs assurance) that Israel
knows how to defend itself. In fact, Israel has over 300 nuclear
weapons. Israel has enough weaponry and nuclear capability to take out
any threat to its sovereignty that any Arab nation--or group of Arab
nations--could mount against it.

Herein lies another problem: it is a heavy-handed, dictatorial,
do-as-I-say foreign policy from Washington, D.C., that prevents Israel
from defending itself. Before Tel Aviv can do anything, it must come
hat-in-hand to Washington for permission.

If Iraq was a legitimate threat, Israel could have taken out Baghdad,
Saddam Hussein, and his entire army with little difficulty. The same
is true right now with Iran. If Iran is a legitimate threat, Israel
could launch whatever attack is necessary to defend itself. It should
not need Washington's permission. Israel is a sovereign nation. It
should have the right to defend itself as it deems necessary. Frankly,
it is none of Washington's business. The truth is, Israel's perennial
precariousness is a direct result of Washington's constant
interference.

Ron Paul would put an end to Washington's deleterious and insatiable
appetite for nation-building and entangling alliances. The result
would be a stronger Israel and a more stable Middle East. Not to
mention the lack of resentment and hatred that results from the
worldwide perception that America is an arrogant and bullying count"

Thank You Erroll...your opiniion carries a lot of weight with me as well..........I'll look into this.

Kathleen, #128, I totally agree with you. Air America has been a MAJOR disappointment. They are worse than the MSM is you ask me because they are supposed to be non biased. Instead they just follow along in the tracks of CNN and MSNBC. The only radio talk show hosts that have brought up John Edwards on their shows have been #1. Mike Malloy and #2. Thom Hartman, and #3. John Elliott. I believe all three are voting for Edwards. Marc Green has come right out and said he is suporting Hillary Clinton, so no wonder he is pimping Clinton on his shows.

#118-I just want to win this time. I'm tired of losing. If we go with Obama or Hillary it's a guarantee lose! I wish this country were not racist or sexist, but it is. Sad to say, but it is. Dems have good intentions, but there is way too much at risk to lose this election.

NAWWWWWww?!...IF I was a NYr...I'da said it like dis......U Kan DOOO IT!

Two bad U kannot .. Saturday is a main Farmers' Market day at Union Square so it might be FUN w/a rally - a lot of people speaking NoooYorkese, and more .. It's always some happening down there.

The farmers are mostly from upstate NooYork - very tolerant of us, the city folks .. Few are also survivors of the 9/11 attack - it was Tuesday, a farmers' market day at the WTC plaza when we were hit. All of them survived, most lost the trucks and all the tables, eqpt, etc ..
None received any compensation. I've met one much later, at Union Square market, around Christmas 2001 - we cried like jerks, incl, his wife, although we never knew our names before: they, the farmers from upstate, me, their city/WTC customer buying the apples from them loyally for over 5 years. Later some more of the WTC market came back to the Union Sq - other guys gave up their Union Sq 'slots' for them, they needed to make some living.. It is very important to support the local farmers/ markets - and healthier !!

So, I gather you won't come to our JRE rally - twooo bad !!
Email your friends, relatives to help JohnE tomorrow !! Do you guys do/ could you do the phonebanking I was posting the info about ?

No petition, act of congress or even act of god could force Billow to learn. Don't kid yourselves.

Great Video!....the most powerful lobbyist right now...is the media......absofuckinlutely.

With Hillary associating with Murdock, and using Mark Penn as campaign advisor, and Obama singing subtle praises to Reagan's style ( Obama obviously forgot about Reagan'ss "October Surprise" scam and his subtle racist campaigning codes. ), I have strange feeling about the Demos in general lately. They are losing their progressive way to court Independents?

A conservative is still a con. Please Demos of America, don't kiss their conservative asses at our expense!
