Countdown's Worst Persons: Knoblauch, Clark Co. GOP & BillO

Tuesday's Worst Person in the World segment on Countdown began with the bronze going to baseball player, Chuck Knoblauch, for failing to answer a letter from Congress asking him to testify in the steroids hearings. The silver went to the Clark Co. Washington GOP for posting a hateful and false smear e-mail on their website that claims Barack Obama is a Muslim, among other nasty things. The gold went to perennial WPITW winner, Bill O'Reilly. BillO still claims that there are few, if any homeless veterans in America and insists that they aren't living under bridges -- Keith reads a news story from late last year about a homeless vet in Iowa who was found dead from hypothermia -- he was living under a bridge.
Olbermann: "Well, Bill, you're right. This homeless vet is not living under a bridge tonight.....he's dead."

Ok seriously folks...I could give 2 shits if Obama is a muslim...the same way I could give 2 shits if any other candidate you care to name is catholic, protestant, baptist, mormon, worship the GREAT AND POWERFUL FSM... etc...I'd rather American society NOT BE SO DAMNED OBSESSED with any given politicians religious affiliation.

I enjoy Keith O., but I find his schtick with O'Really is wearing very thin. Granted, Billo is the gift that keeps on giving but he is a clown--someone to just totally, ignore (like Matthews).
If you want to see something funny, go over to Americablog., and watch the clip of John Edwards and Letterman take on O'Really. It's very funny, and oh, so true.

The Clark County Republican website is now quoting Martin Luther King instead of lying about Barack Obama, and is claiming, "...it is our goal to fact check what we post to the website and to post accurate information." Sigh.
Here's the king quote from their website, believe it or not:

Olbermann should add a fourth award to his repertoire and call it the "BillO" award for awfulness. That way other people can get the coveted gold, and yet BO won't be left out.
Why are these morons trying so hard to get people to believe that Obama is not only a Muslim, but possibly a member of that cult that flies planes into buildings and straps bombs to themselves to be detonated in a populated area? It's a lie, they KNOW it's a lie. Could it be that they aren't just misguided (as I previously thought) and really do just want power and to cause mayhem?
I mean, fuck. People who say that abortion is murder and the best way to stop it is to teach kids to never have sex outside of marriage may have an approach that isn't realistic, but at least they believe it's the right thing to do. Many of the nation's craziest activists don't lie (although they may twist facts in a way that suits their opinions, but everyone does that). Yeah this sure is off topic, but I just got the sweetest ecard from my husband. He's at work and for no special reason sent me the card to say he was thinking of me and that he loved me. Wonder when was the last time Mrs BillO got something like that? :)

I believe when ever KO mentions Bill it drives him a little further insane. He should have been arrested for pushing someone. People are arrested for wearing t-shirts, talking to the VP and harassing ego-maniacal mayors (past of course) and Bill gets away with his crap every night. It is easy enough to say ignore him, he is nothing but that is not true he feeds the monster of ignorance, racism, hatred and just plain stupidity every night with his show.

So now some stupid baseball player is ignoring Congress? I read the other day that some businessman was refusing to testify before one of the committees. I am an Olbermann fan, but I'm going to get all the things that I don't like about him and Countdown out of the way here:
Countdown is an OK show, but more than the Billo smackdowns, I get tired of the celebrity navel gazing. It seems so out of place compared to the news content, it's actually disruptive for me as a viewer.
The other, larger problem with KO is he really can't go after the MSM, other than FOX, because he relies on them so much. Lots and lots of these stenographers are his correspondents. That's why I think he went after Colbert after the WHCD. He was sticking up for his contributors.
Finally, Olbermann should quit giving Congress cover for their pathetic grandstanding over the steroids in baseball issue. Like we don't have more important things to worry about than Chuck Knoblauch...
I love the posters here -- left, right and libertarian.
But I wonder why the focus is on TV commentators on this site.

VietVet, I don't think you're too new here to not realize this. This site has ALWAYS been about the way the media frames the issues. ALWAYS. They shape the national dialogue and we watch how they do it and call them out when we feel the framing is dishonest or disingenous.
Why do you complain about this on every single post about Bill O'Reilly?
So, does Bill O think that there are no homeless people at all? He must. It would stand to reason that if a certain percentage of the population is homeless, and a certain percentage of the poplation are veterans, that there must be some homeless veterans. Right? Or is being a veteran some sort of innoculation against becoming homeless? Maybe Bill O has hit on the solution to solving the homeless crisis!

BillO has moved the goalposts on the homeless vets issue. Now he's claiming the feud was never about whether or not there are 200,000 homeless vets. He denied it on his radio show today when a caller reminded him that he had said there "aren't that many homeless vets" to Ed Schultz. BillO said the number isn't the point and that it was always about Edwards blaming their homelessness on a bad economy. He added that he doesn't believe the 200,000 number anyway.

Actually Nicole if you look at the big picture, hardly anyone watches BillO or KO. If regular television series were on right now instead of a strike, reality tv would be kicking both their butts. The major networks also slaughter both of them daily. There is no comparison. The biggest audience they both seem to get is on the internet.

I'm going to chose to believe that was a poorly worded sentence. I don't think Obama (or anybody else) being a Muslim counts as a "nasty thing," and I really hope nobody at this site does either; rather, I assume you were pointing out that it was a complete lie with the INTENT of that being a nasty thing, and/or there are other, unrelated, nasty things said in it.
Religious freedoms and multiculturalism all, little sensitivity never hurts even if the actual intent can be inferred.
Knoblauch is probably best known in Olbermann circles for throwing an errant throw to first base into the stands and hitting Keith's mom in the face. (Then he went to my crappy Royals and just faded away.)

Considering that KO referred to the oh-so-esteemed gold medalist by his real name rather than BillO, and the tone that he used in the case that gave Bill-O said award, I think says that even KO is getting tired of it. But who else, at least with the kind of audience that KO gets, is calling out Bill-O on his B-S?
BTW James, even though I will grant you that KO may not be the Murrow-class journalist that he aspires to be and cites each night at the end of Countdown, I will say that as a journalist, he has more integrity and class located in his pinky than Bill-O and his like have located in their combined physical entities. At least KO will admit to the occasional mistake (yes, I and many others have seen and heard him do it, once having given himself the bronze in his ubiquitous WPITW segment).

Repeating that smear email was completely irresponsible! And stating that there were "some" factual errors and "some" exaggerations should do nothing to clear your conscience. The use of "some" implies that only a small portion of it was incorrect. If you were good, decent citizens you would have a page listing each item, and describing HOW it was false.
You really, really ought to be ashamed. Not just embarrassed to have put an inaccurate posting on your site and getting caught in a lie, but downright ashamed that you lied so badly.
Is someone in your office channeling Lee Atwater's ghost? If so, I hear that John McCain has fathered an illegitimate black child... Of course that is not true - he and his wife adopted the child, and raised it as their own, but that didn't stop the smear merchants working for a presidential candidate from saying it. You think folks would learn from others' mistakes.
Put up a clearer retraction. Do the decent thing and let yourselves sleep easily at night.

With all the other important issues like FISA, Corporate Criminality, bank Criminality, Wall Street Criminality, US contractors in IRAQ criminality, White House Criminality etc., the Democratic congress focuses on Baseball Steroid use. Who cares? What effect does this have on the country? Where are the subpoenas for the White House officials, Corporate, Banking and Wall Street moguls? How many administration, corporate, banking and Wall Street officials have gone to jail? Next to none. Yet Waxman and the Democrats have time to focus on baseball steroid usage. The current crop of Democrats are pathetic The need to be voted out of office as well.
Just a little "trivia" information for you sportsfans: "KNOBLAUCH" is a German/Jiddish
word for: " GARLIC"---- so his true name in English should be:Chuck Garlic.
