Ann Coulter suffered a serious embarrassment over the weekend when her credit card was declined in Palm Beach. According to our spy, the nutty arch-conservative was caught at 9:45 p.m. Saturday night in the 10 Items or Less line at the local Publix when her card was rejected.

The whole point of the story is that her books aren't selling at retail. The charges that the right wingers are buying large quantiies of her books at drastically reduced prices to put her on the bestsellers lists, is apparently true.
That's too bad. I hope she had enough cash on hand to purchase her Prostate supplements.

This happened to me just last week; my new card was set up to run as credit but not debit (so the bank can generate a bit of revenue from the float), and the gas station runs for debit by default - one quick call and the problem was cleared up.
This story, like Rush's additiction problems, don't interest me at all because they really are a distraction from the fact that the Bush presidency has been an absolute catastrophe in every way. The scope, the magnitude of the catastrophe is so large that it's difficult to fully grasp its effects now, let alone for future generations. So it's not really the best time to be snickering over petty little things for which their may even be a perfectly reasonable explanation.
I know it's Ann Coulter; but really, who cares? Now, if Britney weren't wearing a seatbelt we might have something.

Been looking for an appropriate place to post this..............I happened to be in a Borders bookstore Saturday:
They have a big prominently displayed contemporary politics section. As an experiment, I decided to count right wing flavored books, everything from she-devil's and O'lielies latest rantings on to semi-respectable looking shining biographies of Condi Rice.......I threw in Bernie Goldberg on their side too which may or may not be justified.
Results: I found all of about fifteen right wing titles spread out over I think 18 2 foot shelves. Putting that in perspective, I believe that there were EIGHT titles from Noam Chomsky alone.
The wingnuts are always saying "let the market decide".......well, it seems that it has.
Oh, one other thing.......store is in a moderately rednecky area, so it wasn't like I was pulling my sample in an urbane area of NYC or San Francisco

If her books are selling for pennies on the dollar, she may not have that much money or credit. A $20.00 sells for $2.00 she may only make 10 cents on that book. 200,000 books and she makes $20,000. That's not much to support her lifestyle.

If Drudge had posted a story about Al Franken's card (not trying to compare the two in any way other than to pick a name from the Left) being declined in a MN store, you bet C&L would prominently quote that story as an example of right-wing pettiness. As mentioned above, there are many reasons someone's card could be declined for reasons other than a shortage of funds. Surely we can rise above the level of discourse on the Right. Granted, that's not a very high watermark, but still, I expect more from C&L.

From what I understand, the store in question doesn't take credit cards, so it wasn't a matter of getting card turned down, but the fact that they do not accept credit cards there. I know alot of stores around my area do not accept credit cards for food.

This was really, really disappointing to see here. There needs to be some editorial oversight. I've never seen John write this kind of crap.
And it can't even be empirically validated! Can I start sending you guys rumors of who is blowing whom or who I saw go into a mens room at a park after a little boy went in? Because I can make up a dozen or so stories like that per minute. In about an hour, you'll have all of the content you need for the next few years. If these are your new standards, that is.
I always considered C&L a video blog. How does this trash fit those criteria? Are we going to Malkin-ize things and start requiring people to video people like Coulter as they shop so that we can "gotcha" when they make everyday mistakes that I make? Only thing that gives me hope is that so many here will actual be honest enough to complain about our own being petty. Right wing site guests don't say a word about their pettiness. Not sure if they can even spot a flaw in themselves.
