Why, oh why does anyone listen to Frankie "The Hair" Luntz? After the Democratic debate in Austin, Hannity & Colmes brought out everyone's favorite faux pollster/wordsmith/partisan hack to ask his patented dial focus group of "undecided Democratic voters" (look carefully, I'll be you've seen some of them before) for their impressions of the debate.
It would appear that these "undecided voters" want to see the sparks fly, not party comity. Don't worry, the comity ended this weekend. Democratic candidates agreeing on the issues??? We can't have that, bring on the WWF! Sadly, it also puts Luntz on really disgusting track:
LUNTZ: You guys wanted fireworks?
[focus group generally assents]
LUNTZ: No, you don't. You're Democrats. Don't you want to defeat George Bush and John McCain and all that Republican stuff?
FOCUS GROUP PARTICIPANT: I think the Democrats are going to win anyhow, regardless. But we need to get the best candidate out there. And if they're not going to debate each other, what's the use? I mean, they're agreeing with each other. Hillary's nodding her head all night long.
LUNTZ: You wanted them to argue?
[Focus group assents]
LUNTZ: You want them to take it on. You all agree with that?
[Focus group assents]
LUNTZ: How many of you want them to really argue? Raise your hands. And how many of you want them to make love to each other? Alan, go ahead.
Seriously, WTF is that? Media Matters has more...

FOX news is hilarious. I watched it for my first time this winter. It was very entertaining, but it has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with news. Too bad Americans think it's news. It was more like Saturday Night Live to me.
another Republican failing at teh humor. when will they give up?
Sorry SNL. No offense intended.
Luntz has been caught loading his focus groups with actors! Why in the world is anyone still taking him seriously?
IrresistibleB1tch @ 2:
NO. I am as liberal as you get. It's just Fox was so OTT I couldn't imagine anyone taking it seriously. Which doesn't say much for the people that watch seriously. And, I was smoking pot.
Frankie “The Hair” Luntz is a JACKASS.
frank lunta is a freak.
I could care less about Frank's off-the-cuff insanity (he could have just as well said it about McCain and Huckabee or whatever...)...
What i don't get is these independent voters wanting to see more "fighting"... this isn't fucking entertainment, people. This isn't a reality show. I mean, jesus christ.

My question is: Why is any Democrat taking part in a Luntz "focus group" anyway. These people must not know who he is or that his only reason for conducting these sessions is to find ways to divide the Democratic party and figure out ways to make Republicans look appealing to the rest of us. Stop it, don't collaborate with these Republican operatives or take their advice. Nothing they do, or advice they offer, is done in good faith.
This is akin to MTV asking Bill Clinton what kind of underwear he was wearing.
Snowball @ 9:
They are independents.

This is one occasion where I really hope the focus group was chock full of plants. Because there's something really, intrsincally depressing about the idea that people would want the candidates to be at each others' throats "just because." Sometimes the candiates will have similar goals, and similar plans to achieve them. What we're essentially betting on, with our votes, is which candidate is best suited to achieve his or her goals?
This isn't American Gladiators; this is a job interview. The most high-ptofile job interview in the nation, but a job interview nevertheless. And part of the job involves...diplomacy. Which, as my dad once explained it, is getting your point across and eventually your way without being a dick about it. It's more important for our candidates to not be dicks.
When the show lands on Fox... you can't take any of it seriously. He is baiting his audience of actors. He wants to see the gloves come off so he thinks the Fox news audience will champion his cause. Luntz... what a joke. He still believes in Republican poltics of old. I am starting to feel very sorry for the people who have to work the fakery circuit because just like the comedy doesn't work, nor does the believability.
I don't even watch it anymore. I hit the sound bites on the blogs because that's about as much as I can take.
Look Hillary has fake questioners too. If there's anyone who uses Rovian tactics, it is her. I think people are largely tired of all the calculation in politics.
Anyone see Hillary today. She's firey mad at Obama for leaflets about her NAFTA policy and her Healthcare proposal that are floating all over Ohio.
Problem number 1. She's angry about mailers that went out during Super Tuesday. If she were going to be angry wouldn't it have been appropriate to be angry then rather than now.
Problem number 2. She said someone just brought the mailer to her attention. Her campaign is a day late and a dollar short. If they just saw this today then they don't deserve a run at the presidency. It shows that she is either very calculating or that her campaign is inept. I say both.
Problem number 3. She is calculating that since being conciliatory doesn't work that now she has to find something to take the gloves off for. She now wants to get dirty.
Must we endure Fox style tantrums? Wow!
This is what the family values/Republicans are . . . frat boys and fart jukes. They are barely human (and that's being kind). Agree, amazing that anyone with an ounce of brain matter thinks Faux News is news. But, look at America now . . . THIS is what you get when you let these morons run anything. Gotta vote and scream.
when will there be a focus group to explore just how much of a dick head Frank Luntz is?
WTF is wrong with us?
Doesn't the mere fact that FUX and MSM even carry this sh*t tell you everything you need to know?
Dump your cable and TV now or forever be offended. TV is dead.
...
Bored @ 11:
From the post:
I'm not sure where you get the "independent" thing from. Try reading the post.
May the Good Lord preserve us! Another rethuglican with no brain and horrible manners. Where do they get these guys? How can there be so many sub-humans roaming the earth?
I am sorry the 'audience' he was questioning didn't rise up as one and walk out on this pinhead when he asked that question. He deserves every ouch of grief he gets for this.
Wow I sure hope you aren't trying to make a big deal out of this nothing. I thought we were different than the take everything out of context Malkinites.
Luntz's question serves no useful purpose. He is basically asking his "Focus Group": "Have these Democratic debates been entertaining enough for you and if not why?"
Luntz may have asked the least dignified question about two Presidential candidates ever.
A criminal investigation group needs to focus on Luntz the Duntz.
I barely watch Television unless it's to watch a DVD or sports. The news I get comes from more reliable sources than tv. BLOGS!
I think TV news is starting to be old school.
Now tell me if this is the kind of "news" the Religiopolitical Right, for all its patent homophobia pro Deo, patria et familia, would enjoy drooling over....
Uh-oh. The New York Times is sounding the death knell for Hillary.
Soldiering On, but Somber as the Horizon Darkens
The
fatgray lady sings.Like Mr. Olbermann wondered would he have said the same thing about McCain and Huckabee?

nolockstep @ 14:
What do you plan to do with the rest of your life if McCain whips Senator 'Hope's' skinny ass in November.
Seriously, you need to come down off the mountain top pal.
The lack of oxygen is killin' ya!
i don't think this is worthy of taking up space in this fine blog. why is it news every time an idiot on tv acts like an idiot on tv?
for 8 fucking years i listened to the wingnuts screaming that every decision clinton made was due to focus groups
and then faux news trots out focus groups during every debate
this is such bs
a debate is not about arguing
and luntz is a fraud
This man is a scumbag,This is truely an act of desperation on the part of the NAZI,FASCIST machine.
Fuck you, Frank!
I work in Market Research. I work with focus groups, and the results of focus groups.
asking your participants a question then replying "no you don't" is against even the most basic principles of good research. then again, this is FOX. they can't get journalism right... figures they can't get research or analysis right either.
I want to see a raccoon make love to that disheveled fur on top of Luntz's bald head.
And I'll supply the raccoon!!
woodguy @ 34:
And I'll supply the scotch!
Let's face it, even a raccoon would need to be effed up to get it up fot Luntz or anything on his person.
Also from the traveling circus:
"Democrats want to tax the rich to make them poor"
Those dastardly Democrats
Frank, More than I'd like to see McCain and Huckabee do ANYTHING. Yecchhhh! I have to go wash my mind out.
I saw this on Media Matters yesterday and the only thing I could come up with is this: "Frank the Fool" was trying to bring out the nation's latent fear of interacial sex?
I don't know! It was one of the dumbest fucking things I've ever heard. Jesus, keep that man away from anybody even resembling a Democrat!
You want gutter politics?
Fox news is gutter politics.
Get real!
funny how you both condemn and propogate this stuff...
Oh My God. Luntz must do his shopping at "Toupes are Us". Who the hell is his manager? Who dresses this putz in the morning?
oh my god, I just watched the clip... it was a joke you dolt! get a life!
sometimes I wonder...how much does FOX news pay you to ensure that their shows reaches as many people on the web as possible? I think the liberal blogosphere comprises their biggest demographic. Why do you work so hard to copy, rebroadcast and transcribe their every word, as if it came from the mouth of God?
FOX news says outrageous things to attract attention so they can sell advertising, and it works! They've certainly attracted C&Ls attention--and you filter the best so you can attract attention to your website and sell advertising. Face it: you need FOX, you love FOX and FOX loves you. You're a tabloid newspaper and FOX if your troubled celeb.
helenahandbasket @ 41:
Get a life. No seriously: get a fucking life. You're sitting at home commenting about what? Luntz's clothes? Turn off the puter and get a fucking life.
Well, you see, Luntz is so romantically challenged (read: sexually inept), he carries his childhood sexual fantasies and racial prejudices to extremes as an adult. He likes to fantasize about Hillary getting it on with a black man, and he probably resorts to the usual cliches and stereotypes when he does so: Hillary letting her pent-up passion get the best of her, throwing caution to the winds, secretly thinking, "It's only fair, considering Bill and Monica," and envisioning Barack's big black snake coiling up the Clinton love canal. Ah, ecstasy! I'm even willing to bet Luntz left the crowd to beat off in the men's room. That is, if he hadn't already prematurely ejaculated in his pants.
RACIST FREAK!!!
I think he changed his last name it should have been duntz what a tool
hmmmmm.....HIllary may not be Obama's type!

The caption said "Undecided Dem Voters." Luntz also referred to them as "Democrats." Where did you pick up the "independents" label?
C'mon guys. This is outrage for outrage's sake. Sounds like somebody's bored on a Saturday night. I don't like Luntz either but it was obviously a joke.
The real irony is that it is the Republican that want to see their contestants going at it, doggy style. McCain and Huckabee? Ugh. Maybe they can get Romney back for a special one night stand/squat?
Edwin @ 5:
LOL - no, i didn't mean you - i meant Luntz
they(faux) ratchet up hysterics about national security and the 'be afraid, be very afraid' mantra, then take JUST enough precious airtime(which i hear is very expensive) for something like this. they would be better off with an "oddball" section like olbermann. at least with olbermann, you get an INTERESTING taste of the absurd, while with fox, you get....a humorless, ENDLESS bit of tripe, and ALWAYS hateful and mean-spirited.
Honestly, there is more viable news at www.theonion.com then anywhere on fox news.
Actually, I support this idea. It would save me a lot of time on the internet by merging my current events catch-up with my porn binges.
Only in America...
The reason I stopped watching Bill Maher was because he reeatedly gives clowns like Luntz cred. I don't need a clown like Luntz in my face, whether it's on Maher's show or anyone else's.
How many want more (news?)coverage on Lohan and Spears?
When will these self loathing, closeted, gay repukes, learn to keep their mouth's shut about anything remotely sexual. This reminds me of "wide stance" Larry's comments on Bill Clinton: "Your a bad boy, a nasty boy". WTF is right!
Not funny, in a bizarre Freudian slip sort of way.
Beneath Lunz's fat exterior there lies a pansy begging to be free.
I want to be me,
I want to be free,
I want, I want, I want,
Mommy Mommy Mommy
Someone make him pregnant with the Holy Spirit, please.
more words of wisdom from asshat luntz. fuck you frank.
