Pushback on Sally Kern's Anti-Gay Rant - It's Ellen On The Phone
We recently posted the vile, anti-gay rant from Oklahoma Republican, Sally Kern, and since that time, Pam's House Blend has been covering Kern's feckless and defiant responses, the aftermath and the growing outrage. Apparently, Ellen Degeneres caught wind of Kern's nasty little tirade and decided to not only play clips of it on her show, she even gave the raging homophobic lawmaker a ring. PageOneQ has the video:
"I feel like there's some misinformation going on here," Ellen said after playing clips of the speech, "and--I think I need to call her."
The automated voice mail system indicated that Kern's inbox was full.
"I bet!" Ellen responds out loud, before opting instead to leave a message for the legislator via television broadcast.
"Hi! It's Ellen DeGeneres," she opens. "The gay one." Read on...
Major thanks to Pam Spaulding for staying on top of this story!

Yeah, important.
I think humanity needs a break from the MSM's constant need to feed us sexual preference shows and content.

BTW, the story is that this woman and her minister husband have a gay son.
Not that there's anything wrong with that...
Wow, that lady is some piece of work!
I saw this on YouTube last night. I've sent Sally a few e-mails this week. In my last one, I included a link for the hatecrimes.org site, which is worth visiting. Here it is:

If it's any consolation, Ellen once had a very successful sitcom, but she killed it with too much (way too much) of the above.
On the other hand, her talk show seems to be doing quite well. Warner Bros is spending a huge amount of money building that a new home in three of its sound stages. They even moved ER out for it... Ellen moves in this August, I believe.
I mean, it's not like anyone should care about teh gays, right? They're not really people, are they?

I was once confronted in a workplace situation, and told, "Everyone knows you're gay, so why are you hiding it?" My response was, "When you introduced yourself, did you add, I'm heterosexual?" (Um... no.) I'm not hiding anything. I am open with evryone I know, without exception. My feeling is, if they "can't take it", I'm not interested in knowing them anyway. I never understand what they have "to take", anyway. I'm gay, and you can go on about your life. The end. What's "to take".

Exactly. Soap operas, nighttime dramas, reality shows, even the news - everywhere you look these people are forcing their heterosexual agenda on us and flaunting their and heterosexual lifestyles, romances and heterosexual "marriages" in our faces. I've got nothing against heterosexuals, I myself am one, but man, these people just can't keep their sexual preference to themselves. Everywhere you look they're flaunting it. Wearing rings to signify their sexual bondage to each other, festooning their cars with flowers and tin cans to force the rest of us to celebrate their sexual preference... when you know EXACTLY where they're going in that "just married" car, and what they'll be doing when they get there, the PERVERTS.
And they have these sexual commitment ceremonies in CHURCHES!! Sick heterosexuals, stop forcing your sexual preferences on the CHURCHES!

If I may . .
Hate speech that engenders hate crimes, is DEFINITELY an issue.
Hate is hate: whether it's aimed at people because of their skin color, their religious beliefs (or lack of religious beliefs), where they come from, or their sexual orientation.

What's really crazy is that Homosexuality was accepted in past civilizations. I mean, really it is well documented that Greeks,Romans had lovers of both sexes.Sending men out to sea for months at a time with no women and no hanky -panky didn;t go on . Puuleeze.
David Hawes @ 35:
I understand that, but the people I know in the REAL world, are too damn busy trying to live to really care anymore. We've tried so damn hard to be politically correct that it's got to the point of absurdity. Obviously, somebody somewhere voted for this windbag, so other people share her views. Wrong or right, it has nothing to do with the economies going in the shitter. Tell me if there is a recession people are going to care who is gay and who isn't.
David Hawes @ 21:
You just made your sexual preference an issue by saying you have a wife. Until recently it wasn't possible for gay people to make such a simple statement without serious repercussions. If you had said boyfriend or husband instead, some would be telling you to keep your sex life to yourself. Sexual preference is more than just sex--it's more than just a lifestyle and it's certainly not a choice. It's a part of human identity and everyone deserves the chance to live their lives freely and openly. Thank you for your candor. I hope this clears things up a bit.
Yes, homosexuals are open about their sexuality. They're not that much more open about their sexuality than heterosexuals are. We simply don't see it for what it is since overt heterosexuality is common place and normal. In fact our society tends to frown upon heterosexuals who don't identify with their sexuality.

I believe the video makes it very clear that people didn't know they were voting for the person who had those things to say. If you don't care if someone is gay or not then why are you posting here? Why is it a concern? Why do you have to be openly disgusted about it? You could at least take the time to understand why it is important for gays to be open.
You just hit on the real “gay fear”. It’s all about religion. Even gays want to “get married”. Why? Even heterosexuals are more and more NOT getting married. It’s over rated. Just ask my wife. Dude, you miss the point. Heterosexuals never had to face hatred for loving another person so much they wanted to spend the rest of their life with him/her. And to commit to another person should come with basic benefits that have always been given to heterosexuals. The ultimate cruelty is the denial of a life partner to access to a dying person because they're gay. There are many others denied to gay couples that hetero couples have.
Parading, etc., is nothing more than people have done to fight against denial of their human rights - witness women and blacks in history. It's not about your sex life: it's about civil rights.

Would/did you say these same things about blacks and their protest marches for civil rights?
I am not gay, so I am not aware if the term "Sally" is derogatory; it certainly sounds like it is. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
If I am not wrong, than you are nothing more than a complete hypocrite.
OK, I've been going up and down this thread, and I think I totally misread LA Con's meaning. I think when she wrote "Sally" she was referring to SALLY Kerns and HER behavior, not making a derogatory remark. At least it makes more sense; the whole exchange had me shaking my head and saying,"Huhh...???"
So if that's the case - mea culpa, mea culpa.

Why don't you macaroons stop confusing the messenger with the message. Ellen is as boring and untalented as Dennis Miller... but jerks like Sally being powerful legislators... is very scary.
The completely amazing thing to me, is that other ignorants like Ms. Sally probably consider themselves Christians. How ironic.... especially with the whole Roman gay thang.
Viva La Difference!!!
I had joke that I wanted to know how Ellen make love, because of her being blame for Katrina Hurricane by a preacher that claim God was angry at Gay people. If her love making cause a hurricane, and my love making doesn't even make the earth move, then I wanted to know from an expert. I need some help in my love life.
But, seriously I had a angry co-worker that told one of my other gay co-worker that I had hated Gay people. She got the wheel of suspicion going and cause heartache and emotional flare perpetuating that lie. I think whether you make a person uncomfortable by way of deceit using someone else is even worse than a direct attack of who they are. Sally uses a fictional lie of society fall by way of fictional correlation to Gay people. Its not enough that she don't like Gay people but now make them be the blame for what's wrong with society. Nobody got nothing on Ellen! She is by far the most humane person on Cable and brings the most ray of sun to the world. She by far made a world a better place. I nick her name as "Ellen the Generous" because she gives so much of her heart to the world.
History have shown that a society that tolerated gay like the roman were flourishing, it was only when the roman had intolerance to a group of early form of Christian they became self destructive. By Sally argument, it was the Christian that brought down society.
I am a Christian, so I say this lightly, that to me, it was intolerance that brought down society.
Thanks Ellen. That woman needs some indoctrination into humanitarianism. I doubt she'll get it though. It must be awful to hate that much in the name of Jesus-ah.

I am heterosexual, i was totally unaware of a heterosexual "concept." Would you care to enlighten me?
Yeah, those gays are forcing their lifestyle on us with their agenda.
Just like those cripples who are FORCING their cripple AGENDA on us. Look at them FLOUTING their crippled lifestyle at us in catalogs, ads, TV and parking lots.
If GOD had meant people to go around in wheelchairs we would have been CREATED with wheels instead of legs!
Even that commie russkie jew F.D.Russavitch knew enough to hide & deny his twisted crippled lifestyle before he began BURNING IN HELL, along with Raymond Burr, Christopher Reeve, George Wallace & Lenin.
Their SICK & TWISTED agenda has even reached into our blessed Military. Did you know that your TAX DOLLARS go to support this unGODly crippled agenda by buying wheelchairs for disabled Veterans so they can FLAUNT their crippled lifestyle!
the "gay concept" could be a TV show or a scientific construct. However, to me it reads like a vacuous, meaningless, almost content-free slogan - a lazy substitute for anything approaching an argument.
Wake up folks, sloganeering is not a substitute for thought and debate.
Matt Hussein in Texas @ 45:
I disagree. It has nothing to do with civil rights. If that was the case, there would be no gay pride parades in Canada. They are not discriminated against here any more than anyone else is. Is that enough? No. They demand to have marriages. Why? I could care less what anyone does with their own personal business, but to use civil rights is just an excuse because in nations where they are not looked down upon or ridiculed, it still is not enough. Same as the feminist movement. Same as anyone that gets some kind of special mention in anyone's constitution. Suddenly that isn't enough. I know that my attitude probably won't be popular, but this is the only place that I disagree with so called Liberals. I am sick to death of the constant pandering and apologizing that people have to do on behalf of a minority of clowns that no laws or rights will ever change. You can entrench crap into a constitution 'till the cows come home, and there are still going to be racists, and discrimination.

Get back to us when your done.
Being a writer/editor, I'm curious about this rendering, which I've seen a lot of lately: "teh gay."
What's with the transposed "he" and "e"?
Correction:
That should have read, What's with the transposed "h" and "e"?
Nitpicky? Ah, to a fault! ;)
First, as an Oklahoman who still has a couple of brain cells left, I am absolutely 1000% ashamed of the entire congressional delegation from this state! I am not personally aware of a single one who's not a raging Bush wannabe with a mind so narrow his/her ears rub together and both eyes have to fit in one socket! Oklahoma politics! Utterly shameful. This was a Bush state the first two times, and it probably would be again if Dubyah could run again! That said, there are great numbers of people here who feel just as I do about the fools in Congress and the White House. We'll do what we can next election.
Second, why are so many people afraid of homosexuals? I have several friends whose sexual preferences don't match mine. I've been hit on by people of both sexes, and I couldn't really tell you what the difference was. I can only think of one gay friend who made any real attempt to proselytize (seduce my wife and some others), and that was a bit annoying but still somewhat amusing. No, as someone who's secure in his heterosexuality, I've never seen any gay person as any kind of threat. On the other hand, I have not felt the same way about certain other male predators who hit on every woman within chasing distance. There are really some scumbags out there who need to be dealt with, to be sure. But everybody else is just a person who's different from everybody else, and in that way, we're all just the same. (Does that make sense?)
As I leave the above note, I suddenly find that Sally Kern is in the Oklahoma state legislature and not in congress. Doesn't change anything I said above one iota. The state legislature sucks just as bad as the congressional delegation.
God forbid the woman take 5 minutes out of her show which, by the way, I have never seen her shove the gay issue down our throats, to paraphrase what many of you have said. I have not once seen her even mention the gay issue the times I've watched the show.
Beats me why anyone would be shocked/surprised at Kern's bigotry. Hasn't she sprouted from the same steaming pile of conservative horse shit that nourishes the likes of Coulter, Malkin, Schlussel, and the rest of the tribe of right-wing bitches who infest American politics these days? Kern's homophobia is as much to be expected as bed bugs in a flop house.
Maybe Ellen could have taken it up with Jenna Bush when she was on.
Or asked her why she wasn't in the military, even Queen Elizabeth enlisted in WWII.
Or how her father W rode to the white house on the homophobia of america.
No Ellen is tough enough with a congressWoman, on the phone, but spawn of the greatest political criminal in American history? Better not to ask.
And a lot of Okies agree with Kern, you can be sure. She's verbalizing what a lot of them think. It's still all about religion, sex, and fear. A powerful mixture.
Just because someone believes something doesn't mean it's true.
ConcernedHusseinCanuck @ 33:
You just flaunted your sexuality by mentioning your wife.
The reason we care that we're gay (and that other people know we're gay) is because we're gay people living in a straight world. By bringing attention to the fact that we exist, we give visibility to our plight. It brings attention to the fact that we're not equal members of society.
I'm going to say something a bit over the top, but: it's hard for a straight person to understand the overwhelming and suffocating power of the invisible heterosexual norm. Gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered or queer persons are by their very nature at odds with our society. We have to feel what it's like to not fit into established patterns of society.
Robert @ 80:
Robert- I'm actually glad we don't 'fit in' to society. This society is so screwed up, so tainted, mostly evil, violent, perverted, soul less, full of pea brains, embarrassing, and shameful. The sad thing would be if we DID fit in... Ahhh the haters can have their perfect crumbling dying country, I'm more concerned about myself, my family and friends to concern and obsess myself with some sort of unofficial code of conduct that is spouted out by the lowest and most pathetic of society. GAY FREAK AND PROUD to not be a part of the disastrous society that has been created by those who attack anybody for being different. Now I know who's REALLY going to hell..
L.A. Confidential @ 7:
Are you kidding? How generous of you. 50% of the people on this web site don't like the gay concept.
tyler82 @ 81:
Oh, Tyler! I think you misunderstood me. I'm quite glad I don't fit into a heteronormative society. I much prefer my queer status. I only meant that, as a different sexual orientation or gender identity, we usually immediately know what it's like to be at odds with a society that is built upon heterosexual ideals. Not to say that I dismiss straight allies. No, I don't. But, I think that heterosexuals in general have to learn how to see the invisible norm that is so visible to most of us (with the goal of changing that norm so that there is no such thing as a "natural" or "normal" sexuality).
Re: the immediately above discourse (Robert, Tyler, CHC):
I have always felt blessed to be gay. I see the world through a different lens. I don't try to "fit in", I don't have to, and I don't try to. It's so liberating.
I see myself as a "go-between" in the "battle of the sexes". I'm in both "camps" and neither camp. I can just be me. And I am.
Ed Hussein Hussein- there is a lot of insight and wisdom that comes with being gay, we notice and observe things that straight people wouldn't, such as their weird ways of flirting, the relationships that end up ending up in divorce. I have discovered the gears that move society at such an early age because I was forced out of the 'inner circle' of normality and have been observing from the outside for quite some time now, realizing that civilization is really just a frail piece of puzzle that is used to control people and to force them into being easily controlled. Of course, the 'normal' people will never understand any of this, and I prefer my status as 'burn in hell forever AIDS victim child molesting elementary schooler recruiter' over the other side that I've witnessed with such amusement, astonishment, and bewilderment over the past 25 years. I'll stick to the adventurer rather than the trapped. Most of my friends are straight, so yah, I love them all, but we can only analyze what we have experienced, and that's what I'm sticking to.
L.A. Confidential @ 7:
then they need to get over it damn fast. It doesn't matter what you like -- the opinion with the religion behind it has no place in our government.
