"Out of Touch": First Major Anti-McCain Ad Airs Today

Greg Sergeant of TPM has the scoop:

Here's a first look at the first ad being run against John McCain by Progressive Media U.S.A., the new pro-Dem third-party group headed by David Brock that's planning to raise $40 million to bloody up the GOP nominee in advance of this fall's election...

The ad, called "Out of Touch," will be running on cable beginning tomorrow and can be seen in D.C. on CNN and MSNBC -- which is to say, it's a small buy aimed at an insider audience of potential future donors, political operatives, and the like.

Brilliant. Finally the sights are being set on the right opponent.

Who Says John McCain’s Tone-Deaf on the Economy?

I bet for the rest of his life, McCain will rue the day that picture was taken of him hugging bush. I'm sure he says to himself, What the hell was I thinking?

I love that picture. i've been looking for a big one to use as my wallpaper.

This is a good ad and it goes right to where McCain is the weakest in my opinion. McCain has no economic ideas and does not know much about the subject in general. All he offers to the public are cheap slogans just like Bush.

Larry Lessig's picture

Problems with the ad:

1. it said "paid for by " what ever whatever PROGRESSIVE whatever whatever." This alienates a good portion of the centrist target audience.

2. have YOU never said "on one hand... on the other hand?" talk about out of context crapola. certainly there has to be something more substantive than this.

3. ditto about the first quote. weak.

i dont know where some of you people come from. you seem to have completely shut off any sort of rational instincts and are treating this like a football game. stop cheerleading (even if you happen to be cheerleading for the same side as i happen to be for) and start thinking.

We are thinkers. That's why we oppose BushCo, McSame and the GOP in general. The easiest, non-thinking way to go would be to just accept more of the same and try not to think about it too much as we can no longer afford to get to work, buy food or a decent place to live with our family.

come on ! we can suggest what the democrats should show or do on tv ads but in reality the democrats wont do shit! they dont want the whitehouse ! thier perfectly content to leave the republicans in control of americans! its the corporations who own you! and the dems and the repigs! the law , the news, the factories, the military, and the voteing machines!

tyree: While I agree with you about the lackadaisical attitude of Congress (based principally on the fact that they are impotent to do anything since the "teeth" of their actions will not be persued due to the DOJ being corrupted and resistant to doing their job, the true mettle of this country lies within it's people - the middle class - who is pretty angry and disgusted with this administration of smoke & mirrors.

It will be the people, despite the hacked voting machines and easily erased votes on paper trail machines (using a "special" Diebold marking pen - ahem!) who will show their force and power in this coming election.

The new national order will mean Repukes losing their seats at an unprecedented rate with new Democratic/Independent vigor committed to overturning all of the laws broken by Bush and his cadre of criminals over the past 7 years. It will be the Dem president's first order of business to investigate the crimes of Bush & Co. and see that they get the justice they deserve which, in many cases, will mean time in prison and testimony before The Hague for violation of Common Article 3, Geneva Conventions on Torture. This will include at least 6 administration officials.

So, to so blatantly state that nothing will change, I believe, is an erroneous assumption. Surely, nothing CAN change while Bush still runs the table; however, HUGE change is on the way if Obama takes the white house. Hillary has too much to lose herself because some of what's wrong with this country reflects back to her administration. She's been in on some of the dirt and would be rendered "useless" if elected. (Besides, she will get swiftboated by her past along with her "sniper fire" lies if/when she would be the candidate).

Change is coming - of that we can be certain! With an Obama administration, the Bush crims will be fleeing like rats to exile in foreign countries to avoid incarceration. The investigations will take on an air of Watergate and the people will be joyous to see that the ones responsible for the "tanking of america" are receiving their just desserts.

Umm... It's required. And I don't know how that, in any way, negates the effect of Bush and McSame repeatedly saying the exact same words.

2. have YOU never said “on one hand… on the other hand?” talk about out of context crapola. certainly there has to be something more substantive than this.

No, I have never said, "On the one hand, on the other hand" with nothing in between. I'm sure there are many other people who've never done that, either. I'd say it's a pretty unusual usage of that expression, actually.

3. ditto about the first quote. weak.

Sadly, it's your candidate, McSame, who is weak.

Good thought! What's keeping Barack and Hill from spending most of their time knocking McSame/Bush and then just let the voters pick who of them would be the strongest to go against McSame. Simple, cost effective, less divisive, and it will allow the loser to join the winner more easily.

Gee Larry, you seem to miss the point .... The point is that McCain only is a Carbon Copy of Bush and THAT is what we don't want. So now your ident is blown.

medussa's picture

How many americans are "bitter"??? I'd say the number is over 70%!! Obama was spot on with this comment and need not apologize for telling the truth.

Isn't it amazing how "lies" become the accepted behavior for a politician or an administration official? When someone has the candor and honesty to speak truth to power, the criminals (fascist corporate america and press) can't tolerate it. They're spinning Obama's truthful remark like a top and looking like total jackasses in doing so. They're showing us their colors right now as they attempt to smear this truism in our faces as though he's said or done something wrong.

This singular focus by the press in only serving to highlight the "Truth" in what Obama said - yes, AMERICANS ARE ANGRY - VERY, VERY ANGRY - about what's going on in this country and in this war.

We will show our anger in the voting booth - with such an overwhelming landslide for Obama now that the press will be left drooling and scratching their heads and Hillary and John McNutbag will be left in the dust.

larrylessig@12: Nice attempt to sidestep the obvious; however, the apeing by Chimpster #2 (Johnny McSame) and his protege, Chimpster #1, is astoundingly obvious to anyone with at least a third grade education.

This ad is spectacular and will drive home the fact that McBush is an exact duplicate of Bush but without the prozac. Hence, his volatility registers higher on the richter scale and makes him very dangerous, indeed. Bush's affect has been altered by psychotropic drugs since his jaw-moving days some three years ago when he underwent serious "training" to stop the jaw swiveling. Since then he's taken all of the damage he's doing to this country like some toddler's romp on a playground...laughing all the way.

This ad rocks and will make a very obvious point and drive it home to even children watching. It's simple, yet clear. Anyone who doesn't "get" this ad either is either incapable of logical mental processes or simply doesn't want to.

Kudos to this group on this ad. Let it rock from one side of this country to the other!

tyree: www.blackboxvoting.org is well on top of the shenanigans used by the GOP. Hell, what percentage of Pennsylvania Republicans have changed their party JUST to hold their nose and vote for Hillary?? Astounding numbers who are deathly afraid of an Obama presidency. They figure that if they throw Hillary over the top then she will become the candidate and they know how easily she will be to swiftboat. Just last week she was caught lying about sniper fire. What the hell else will she be lying about if president? We cannot have another liar in chief - our country and democracy will tumble if that is the case.

As for the election stealing, this only works if the candidates are neck in neck. Otherwise, it becomes obvious and the people will riot in the streets this time. Angry doesn't even begin to describe what americans are feeling right now with their lives being marauded by the insiders of this administration of smoke & mirrors. When the economy totally tanks, it will be all over for this democracy. And, as we've seen, it's well on it's way.

THE ONLY HOPE FOR THIS COUNTRY IS BARACK OBAMA! He is the only one spiritually capable of turning the tide of self-destruction due to overwhelming evil and corruption within.
