Question(s) for the day
By Steve Benen Thursday Apr 17, 2008 7:30amCogitamus asks the question that I've been pondering for a while.
Do you think if Barack Obama had left his seriously ill wife after having had multiple affairs, had been a member of the "Keating Five," had had a relationship with a much younger lobbyist that his staff felt the need to try and block, had intervened on behalf of the client of said young lobbyist with a federal agency, had denounced then embraced Jerry Falwell, had denounced then embraced the Bush tax cuts, had confused Shiite with Sunni, had confused Al Qaeda in Iraq with the Mahdi Army, had actively sought the endorsement and appeared on stage with a man who denounced the Catholic Church as a whore, and stated that he knew next to nothing about economics -- do you think it's possible that Obama would have been treated differently by the media than John McCain has been? Possible?
And -- this is fun to contemplate -- if Michelle Obama had been an adulteress, drug addict thief with a penchant for plagiarism -- do you think that she would be subject to slightly different treatment from the media than Cindypills McCain has been? Anyone?
I don't have anything to add; I just thought I'd throw this out there.

The media would ignore all that and continue focusing on the Chinese lapel pins
Yeah, they'd absolutely be getting worse treatment and Obama would probably have had to pull out of the campaign by now - especially with the shady public financing deals this hypothetical Obama would have likely been involved in. That being said, making fun of a drug addiction, especially one started from prescriptions used to treat the pain from spinal injuries, isn't that classy. The wiki page says "two spinal surgeries for ruptured discs" which I'd say is a legitimate cause to start taking drugs which unfortunately can cause addiction in maaaany people. The whole "ease emotional stress during the Keating Five scandal" is dodgy, though.
But Gramps McCain feeds the MSM BBQ!
I wonder if Stephanopolis is taking notes on these questions like he did on the Sean Hannity ones.
You can bet on it. They go nuts over such trivial things now, what do you think they would do with such of wealth of ammunition?
The John McSame of today makes Bob Dole look like a truly enchanting, reasonable, even-tempered and sonorous human being.
Hey, just ask Joe Scarborough. He's got the answer. You don't question the opponent if someone has been in Washington for years and years as John McCain has been, only those who've been there only a year, like Barack Obama:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/04/17/joe-scarborough-walks-off_n_973...
Those same facts would be treated very differently to a Democrat. I think the ABC debate showed that what we need is not a media that treats Republicans the same way but one that stops enabling terrible policies by focusing on trivia.
Throw Hilzoy a bone why doncha?
these are Obama's foreign policy credentials.
please spread the word.
and please make him your president.

It's that darned liberal media at it again. MSM....morons since Murdoch
Oops! I see C&L carried Scarborough's walk-off yesterday, but he probably accurately explained why the media lets John McCain off scott-free while blasting Obama for much lesser "sins". I'm sure this is the self-righteous reason the media who support McCain tell themselves. Never make it an even playing field, give your guy the advantage any way you can.
First. All that would make one forget about a lapel pin.
Well, WE know how hard the liberal media is on the right wing of this country, so it's not hard to figure out. If John "temper" McTantrum becomes President, all will be right with the country. If you're in the top 5%.
But the bias in the media is supposed to be 'librul' ? Hilarity.
If you're a reslug, crimes are just 'whoopsies' but if you're anyone else well, I hope you've got a trust fund to pay for all those legal fees.
yes, yes, yes!
Yes, this ain't no level playing field, that's for sure.
I just hope it doesn't matter in the end.
It's pretty natural that the rich white male element will side with McCain. This is probably a good chunk of the media hacks and sponsors.
If the young, the female and the smart all vote in November - end of story.
If the media manage to disillusion enough people and fool enough people - who knows?
The only good thing is McCain won't dare raise family values.
They might treat Obama differently if he were 71 yrs old and was a POW
I think respect for age and the "war hero" status are what protects McCain.
Out of touch elitist Talking heads are steering the country.
The debate was a perfect example of them trying to steer us from change to keep up the same old same old.
They are shaking in their shoes because we REJECT their sh!t this time around.
You aint seen nothing yet though. I feel the MSM as we know it will die a slow and very much awaited public death.
The wailing and gnashing of their teeth is already getting bad but will be almost unbearable the closer to the end their get.
If the traditional corporate media discovered Obama had an over due library book from high school they would be all over it.
"Untrustworthy or just forgetful? We'll be back after these messages for more in depth coverage of Obama's overdue library book"
I think the only way to expose the media bias for McCain would be to stage a fake Breaking News feature on Michelle Obama, releasing the details of Cindy McCain's addiction, theft, lost receipts from Keating, etc. When the guaranteed furor broke out, the reporter could say, oops. This was Cindy McCain, not Michelle Obama.
Republicans like to put out candidates that are so deeply flawed the press is almost embarrassed to take them to task for their failings. Regan lied so often the press just let it slide, Bush is so stupid the press would be ashamed to call him on it, like making fun of someone handicapped. The problem with the Dems is that they only screw up in small amounts that the press can really chew into it. And now you have McCain who is so dirty and flawed, again the press would feel embarrassed to bring it up.
I have heard that if reporters want have access to McCain they have to soft peddle their questions. Kind of like how the white house treats reporters at the briefings. If you ask too many cutting questions you aren't invited back.
Is that all ya got....well Obama is an elitest from the hood.
I just wish the media would just ask Obama the real question behind all the other ones they seem to be obsessed with.
That question is: "Senator Obama, many Americans simply can't handle the fact that you're black and have a Muslim-sounding name... how do we know you're not a scary, militant black Muslim?"
As ridiculous and unfair as the question is, I'm afraid Obama will have to answer it to the satisfaction of enough ignorant citizens to get elected President.
So?
Obamas middle name is Hussein. He doesnt wear a flag pin. His pastor is black, angry and sometimes says baaad things about America. Obama once knew a man who did something terrible 40 years ago. And hes is an elitist!
It doesnt get much worse than that
Hey, when did we start using wikipedia links for sources.....
The question I would like to ask McCain is "Did you wear a condom when you cheated on your wife?"
Each time I hear Obama being called an "elitist" by anyone in the media, the first question that comes to me is where is karl Rove hiding? This is exactly what Karl Rove would do, find his own candidates weakness and project it on the opponent.
pissed off patricia @ 24:
....Agreed...think you would see ABC give it to McCain the way BO got it?
galmud @ 27:
They are trying to convict Obama of guilt by association. He knew someone who did something therefore he must have done the same thing.
pissed off patricia @ 19:
ultvio @ 18:
Not really. Kerry got slammed and the MSM slobbered all over the place making sure the Swiftliars story got out. And if Obama were 71 years old, every "reporter" in the MSM would be asking questions about his competence and durability. I can hear Joe Scarbuttocks now, smarmy smile on his face, asking whether Obama was having "another one of those senior moments" when he spoke in San Francisco about the bitterness felt by certain parts of the electorate -- and "you have to wonder if some one who seems so obviously age-addled is really qualified to [blah blah blah]."
ultvio @ 31:
No, they would give McCain donuts with sprinkles
ultvio @ 31:
Yikes! Don't call him that -- word spreads! ;-)
henry wallace @ 25:
You really have to hate those damn elitists. A real man of the people and his wife would never have been able to pay off their student loans before the age of 50.
votingvet @ 33:
Yeah, you're probably right.
Today was another day I had to turn off Joe's show. Seems lately that's happening a lot. Who died and made Joe Scarborough the wise man of all politics?
I recall Spalding from Caddyshack.
"Of course it's good shit, I got it from a negro."
such is the rule of the white man...
votingvet @ 35:
Everyone is pissing and moaning about the way Obama handled himself at the last debate. Hell, I thought he did damned well not to walk over there and punch out the moderators. He should have asked them, Is this a debate or an inquisition?
No offense, but it would be refreshing if some Democratic leaning blogger, advocte group or TV news pundit decided to mention these things EVERY SINGLE DAY until the MSM started reporting on them rather than occassionally lamenting that they aren't being covered. What other option is there save ignoring them altogether? Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Glen Beck would be "screaming" them from the rooftops if the shoe were on the other foot. Why aren't there Democratic voices screaming these things from the rooftops? We have no one to blame but Democrats for allowing Republicans to ignore their failings. Obviously, if we don't do it, they never will. So instead of bemoaning how unbalanced and unfair MSM is, how about shoving it down their throats EVERY SINGLE DAY instead of just periodically mentioning them! We voters don't have the platform to scream from. YOU DO!
Question ought to be....Why is the media after Obama ?
Answer...Obama is not groomed well enough to be Israel Firster and the fear is that Blacks of America will share equal power with Chosen ones.
pissed off patricia @ 19:
It sure didn't protect McCain against Bush, did it?
I think in the end that McCain's age and POW status won't get him elected. Clinton or Obama will campaign on the issue differences, and most people will vote on that basis rather than their liking for McCain, even if it's there.
pissed off patricia @ 38
Joe was one of the "House Managers".
From the White House Pee Pee Posse epoch.
biff diggerence @ 44:
Too early in the morning, I'm not following you. More info please.
I think the story about Cindy McCain beating an addiction after medical problems is a positive story. I'm not sure going after that would be good for the Dems. But I say go for it. Keep slugging it out while McCain waits.
BTW, if the media were to do their job they ask Obama about his relationship with Bill Ayers. A member of the Weathermen. Where is the media on this one?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weatherman_%28organization%29
pissed off patricia @ 45:
Congressman Joe's 15 minutes was Clinton's impeachment (pee pee posse).
pissed off patricia @ 32:
Yep and it all fits in the superficial nonsense narrative, that Obama isnt "American" enough. That he doesnt love his country enough. As a contrast to the regular American Joe, John McCain, the warhero, the son and grandson of admirals who served in World War II blablabla
Eric Hussein Almighty @ 36:
Darn elitists..probably cause of all murikas problems. lol
McCain's history doesn't bother me as much as his current attitude about Iraq and Iran. Anyone who right now sees something positive in continuing this war and is considering starting yet another one, just isn't being logical in so many different ways.
Ian @ 28:
Good point. Also, why are you pointing out McCain's wife's drug addiction? There are a million things to criticize McCain for, but the fact that Cindy had a drug addiction problem is really not relevant. I really hate when this site falls into Rovian, right-wing attacks on people that is outside the scope of political relevancy.
themediamyth @ 39:
Uhm....no.
Replace "Barack Obama" with "Al Gore", "John Kerry" or "Howard Dean" and McCain would still be getting his free pass. Guaranteed.
What we have to do at some point is muster that sort of zen ability to take a disaster in stride and create something great out of tragedy.
Anything else is just fear and loathing and we're only going to sink deeper if we wallow in the shit.
BigSky @ 51:
It's not that Dems would use her history, but if she were a dem, the republicans would use it. You just know they would.
There is not enough barbecue in the world to rescue Grandpa McFraud from the tidal wave of legitimate questions coming concerning his character. Enjoy this temporary free pass old man, this is as good for you as it will ever be.
Gee, now that you put it that way....
comment @ 8:
Who?
StevePam @ 20:
I will be SO THERE to jam the knife in, believe me. I have come to despise the MSM with a loathing so deep -- I formerly reserved these feelings for people like Limbaugh but the entire media apparatus has so angered me during this election. I'd like to see them all roast.
No worries, this will all be fair game and brought out after the Dems choose a candidate. All of McCain's crap will be too "juicy" for the MSM to resist, no matter their corporate marching orders.
The landslide against the Repubs is still on track.
Even if we attack Iran, this will all get settled soon.
Hang in there and keep the faith!
pissed off patricia @ 41:
I have wondered if that was not the idea, to throw bait out there and have Obama lose it.
sofla @ 26:
Lol, I hear ya. This is what they are afraid of: President Obama's Executive Order #1: Where da white women at?
Left&Left @ 55:
Your anxiety has become transparent. The cockiness more pronounced. The posts more frequent.
One wonders just who it is you're trying to convince.
A picky point...are there allegations of the Mrs. having an affair during her marriage? If not, how can she be an "adultress?" There are many other names that may apply, but if she wasn't married her fling with Big Bad John doesn't qualify.
ultvio @ 59:
Obama is too level headed for that. He didn't get where he is today by being stupid or over reactive. He got where he is today because he's smart as hell and he has learned to work with all kinds of people to come to a successful conclusion. He's no dummy. You don't get to be the head of the Harvard Law Review by simply attending college.
L.A. Confidential @ 53:
The biggest problem is prying people away from the Telescreens and getting to work.
FilthyHarry @ 60:
Huffpo reported this morning that 90& of the people think the economy is in the toilet. I don't think that when the general election comes around, any of the bullshit that repugs used last time around is going to work. To many people are hurting for the trival crap to work.
Ian @ 28:
I would say you should go to Benen's blog (The Carpetbagger Report- and surprisingly not the first of many blogs where he cross-posted this- but I only looked back through Wednesday in the archive) and ask him there since he doesn't really seem to hang out here...But you'd be better off going to Cogitamus blog (linked in the OP), since that's where the quoted paragraphs come from.
diamondmc @ 65:
Yep, if Obama can fix the economy he can be a secret American-hatin muslim as long as he does it on his own time. Considering what we've put up with for the past 8 year, the list of things Obama can be as long as he's competent is pretty damn long. Which is why McCain could potentially be crushed in the GE cause other than being an old white pow, I don't see he's got anything else going for him though its understood that being an old white pow is a lot in this country.
How is it going to help the economy when we have to pay for Obama's proposed 3 trillion in new programs promised by him on the campaign trail?
pissed off patricia @ 54:
Yes they would.
But there are an abundance of issues that damage McCains character. Choosing irrelevant issues only sparks debates that don't go anywhere.
On book tv a couple of weeks ago I saw one of the head guys in the Swiftboat Veterans. He had a new book out about something, can't remember. Anyway he was asked if the Swiftboaters were going to actively engage in the elections this year. He said he didn't know yet.
Imagine how those bastards would go after Obama. Geez, I don't even want to think about it. Maybe they can begin where Hillary did by accusing Obama of writing an essay in the second grade or whenever it was, saying he wanted to be president of the United States.
rb @ 68:
You're right. I'd much prefer a gas holiday.
When you are a Democrat and a black male you have to be smarter, have better manners, and be more open minded than your white competitors just to be allowed to play the game. Obama has the potential to be one of our greatest Presidents. It is going to take someone exceptional to pull us out of this mess that Bush got us into. If you don't agree with my first sentence then just look at what kind of an idiot is allowed to be President if he is white and rich. It has always been that way. It is getting better. But the advances that the U.S. has made as a nation where people of various colors can live together equally have been set back in the last couple of decades. Now you have the press that is suppose to be the vetting part of our government in cahoots with the fascist powers that want to be and that are. So it is probably harder now than it was say 30 years ago for a black man to get elected because the main stream press is now part of the GOP and we all knew the first black modern President would be a Democrat. So if Obama becomes our next President, which I strongly hope he does, it will be a truly remarkable achievement in this current climate. If he does succeed it will be because Bush and the GOP has over stepped their powers so far that the people of the U.S. want as much as possible of the opposite form of leadership from what we have had for the last 8 years.
rb @ 68:
Infrastructure..it's the key to recovery, basic economics.
dennis @ 61:
Project much?
rb @ 68:
The entire Iraq fiasco is off-budget.
A larger problem than Obamas "programs".
rb @ 68:
Don't depend on Obama for anything. He'll have has hands full and isn't going to be able to babysit people.
In order to get this country back on track we need risk takers and entrepreneurs.
Ian @ 69:
Republican strategists don't care if something is relevant or not, if it does even the slightest bit of damage to their opponent, they will use it and let the chips fall where they may.
rb @ 68:
3 trillon? Facts? Links?
Ian @ 71:
Great. Another gift for Exxon/Mobil.
rb @ 68:
Well, let's see...if we stop throwing HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS* in to the meat grinder known as Iraq, then offer incentives to rebuild the industrial base in this country...
*Your "3 trillion in new programs" is of course, a wild exageration, while my "HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS" is not. But I can tell you're concerned about something- Very concerned.
pissed off patricia @ 77:
Again, I agree. But we actually have issues of substance that are beginning to matter to voters. Obamas whole message is centered around avoiding the nitpicking politics and actually pointing out the flaws that we should be caring about.
rb @ 46:
Where is the media on this one? Where are YOU on this one? They've brought up this lame question already. Polly want a cracker?
dennis @ 61:
You Dennis. Because your right wing apologist opinion means so much to me. I don't mind the Obama scrutiny as long as McWar gets the same. If that happens McFraud(your candidate) will be done.
Uh-oh! What's that on Barack's shoulder?
Looks like he needs to find a new shampoo!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlR9DNfqGD4
Kansaskowboy @ 72:
Again, this isn't about Obama, it's about the pass that McCain gets from the MSM. If these Democratic primaries were a race between, say, Edwards and Biden, McCain would still be getting the pass.
Not that I disagree with your point about the scrutiny that Obama gets. Hell, I've been expecting the heat he's now getting since he announced his candidacy.
Left&Left @ 83:
Oh, dennis, get off the concern trolling, would you? Make a case for your boy McCain rather than sniping at what you perceive as the anxiety of others.
rb @ 68:
Hell, just shave off the TOP 1% of Bush's tax cuts and that'd cover Social Security for the next 75 years.
Remember a lot of the problems with the economy will be fixed just by removing Bush and republicans from power.
I don't understand the question. Add graduated almost last in his class. It is getting embarrassing how much of a pass the senile old codger is getting. I know the conventional wisdom is he's a great campaigner. We'll see. I think he is as boring as paint drying. I think as the intensity of the campaign picks up it will take a lot of work to cover his lack of anger management. My gut tells me he will destroy himself.
The establishment doesn't allow blacks to play on their golf courses.
Really, basic economics. I am struggling to pay my bills, tax me more. I think that will help!
Not only is it not basic economics, it doesn't even make common sense.
Here's a Question For the Day for you:
Is Ignatz really a baked potato with toothpicks stuck in and mouse ears attached to the head?
Did rb run away? I'm still waiting for those facts and links on Obamas 3 trillon dollar programs.

Here's a question: Does anyone need proof that Busholini is an absolute IDIOT? If so, here's your answer!

mezurashiiiken @ 5:
That's good because we wouldn't want him swimming into any mantarays.
rb @ 90:
If you're job is delivering pizza and you're foolish enough to run your car outta gas, guess what, you need to spend money on gas so that you can continue making money.
rb @ 90:
Ahem. You're paying higher taxes because of your rethuglican preznit. Remember how Busholini lowered taxes for the RICHEST of the rich & gave out billions in corporate welfare and said "F*ck you" to the middle class?
Take your head out of your ass and post something sensical.
diamondmc @ 92:
I'm here! Had to take a call.
I did exagerate to make a point. No problem admitting that. The real number is 300 Billion.

And did the woman you cheated with make you wear a bag over your face?
One of the only good things to come out of the last 7 years is that the phrase "liberal media" has become a joke for most people.
You guys are just being silly now. Everyone knows IOKIYAR covers all this stuff. So there, 'nuff said.
Ian @ 96:
If you run out of gas, you are an idiot. That being said, you probably haven't really figured out how to manage you're finances.

EXACTLY
In all truthiness how in the devil does anybody know all that Obama has done. Of course the good old boy democratic male blogs have cut Hillary into little pieces. But none have posted one damn thing about Obama and his fabrications.
There is a mountain out there and it is easy to find. His book about his wonderful father he took inspiration from. A biagmist and drunk. Of course Obama can't help what his father did, marry five women with the benefit of a divorce and abandoned each and every one when they had a child. Drove like a maniac when he was loaded. And got fired from a job because of it. Then Obama has the nerve to put in his book that his father got fired because of his support of African policies. EVEN AFTER THE PEOPLE WHO RESEARCHED THE INFO FOR HIM TOLD HIM HIS VERSION HE WAS GOING TO PUT IN HIS BOOK WAS A LIE.
Oh yeah this is the kind of guy the good old boys support. Heck they can't support Hillary she wore the wrong color pantsuit.
Dr. Acula @ 97:
OK! Is this "sensical enough for you?
Ten men go out for beer. The bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:
The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing. The fifth would pay $1. The sixth would pay $3. The seventh would pay $7. The eighth would pay $12. The ninth would pay $18. The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.
So, that's what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. He said, "Since you are all such good customers, I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20. Drinks for the ten now cost just $80."
The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes, so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men -- the paying customers?
How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his "fair share"? They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay!
And so:
The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings). The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings). The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings). The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings). The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings). The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).
Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four
continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.
"I only got a dollar out of the $20," declared the sixth man. He
pointed to the tenth man, "but he got $10!"
"Yeah, that's right,' exclaimed the fifth man. "I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than I!"
"That's true!!"shouted the seventh man. "Why should he get $10 back when I got only $2 ? The wealthy get all the breaks!"
"Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison. "We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!" The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.
The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important.
They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!
And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up any more. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.
David R. Kamerschen, Ph.D. Professor of Economics, University of Georgia
#72-I agree with you . It reminds me of an adage from some tme ago-"You have to be twice the woman to be half the man."-I think this applies ,only substitute-"You have to be doubly competent as a black man ( or woman),to be half as competent as an incompetent white person." I know some would disagree, but as a southerner,I have seen this all my life. A very wise, very old neighbor once told me, that a person of color will be forced to do a better job, because he or she will be scrutinized more carefully, than a white person who gets a free pass. Incidentally, I am similarly outraged at the blatant free pass the Mc Cain'ts are getting-but the MSM doesn't want to admit being conned...especially when they were in on the fix!
rb @ 90:
You're struggling to pay your bills under a reich-wing economy, yet you support another reich-winger. Not only is it not basic economics, it doesn't even make common sense.
rb @ 90:
So far you've made two points. One was flatly incorrect (that the media has ignored Ayers), the other was a lie, or as you Facts Optional people call it, "an exaggerration".
Don't you even wonder sometimes what it'd be like to live in the real world? When will you admit that you're in the sad economic shape you're in because of your Republican leaders, who give you nothing but anti-middle class con games dressed up in patriotic slogans?
rb @ 102:
If you are struggling to pay your pays, you are an idiot. That being said, you probably haven't really figured out how to manage you're finances.
Renell @ 109:
Andy K Jong Il @ 86:
McCain doesn't need my help, Ange. Not now, anyway. He's pollling almost even with Obama in Massachusetts, for Christ's sake and he's barely even campaigning. I thought they appreciated elitists there.
If we get a poll out of Marin County that he's competitive there too, Left and Left is gonna have to start paying for bandwidth here.
INOKIYAD!
None of those things would be a problem for Obama...if he ran as a Republican.
Do you think if Barack Obama had left his seriously ill wife after having had multiple affairs, had been a member of the “Keating Five,” had had a relationship with a much younger lobbyist that his staff felt the need to try and block, had intervened on behalf of the client of said young lobbyist with a federal agency, had denounced then embraced Jerry Falwell, had denounced then embraced the Bush tax cuts, had confused Shiite with Sunni, had confused Al Qaeda in Iraq with the Mahdi Army, had actively sought the endorsement and appeared on stage with a man who denounced the Catholic Church as a whore, and stated that he knew next to nothing about economics — do you think it’s possible that Obama would have been treated differently by the media than John McCain has been? Possible?
And — this is fun to contemplate — if Michelle Obama had been an adulteress, drug addict thief with a penchant for plagiarism — do you think that she would be subject to slightly different treatment from the media than Cindypills McCain has been? Anyone?

Yesterday on the MSM that I watched they were pretty much saying that Obama did give them shit by telling them these questions were stupid. Also some on the MSM were saying that it may work in Obama’s favor because the questions were so stupid. And Jon Stewart showed that dumbass woman asking Obama why he doesn’t wear a flag pin and she looked as stupid as her stupid question. Dan Abrams took the moderators to task for their stupidity while Tweety never said a word about how incompetent the moderators were. At least for the amount of time I could handle watching Tweety. The bottom line is that Obama will come out of this unscathed.
Since they took down my post, I will just provide the link.

rb @ 108:
Dude, nobody likes story problems. To your original post however what about the hundreds of billions wasted by Bush & Co? What about billions in corporate welfare? Wchat about the billions lost due to tax uts to the wealthiest 1% of the people in the country?
We're not short of money, there is plenty, it's just been misspent. Any president could easily pay for all the things we need if it were spent WISELY. There is no missing money, just mismanaged money.
Bluestocking @ 117:
Dennis...oh Dennis.....watch your grandpa's poll numbers plummet as these character questions surface. I'll get you a couple of suicide hotline numbers....I'm there for you man.
princess, @ 114:
Princess, when are you gonna [sic] start paying for bandwidth here?
So, you reich-wingers are a "fan" of polls this week. How cute, darling. You reich-wingers only cite polls in those rare instances when a reich-winger may have an advantage. Your anxiety has become transparent. The cockiness more pronounced. The posts more frequent. When are you gonna [sic] start paying for bandwidth here?
rb @ 118:
Your reich-wing rhetoric is transparent. Again, if you are struggling to pay your pays, you are an idiot. That being said, you probably haven’t really figured out how to manage you’re finances.
Marge @ 107:
Why don't YOU post a verified list with links of Obama's fabrications and lies for us to see? And sorry to bust your bubble, but "good old boys" don't support anybody Black. Or half-white. Some people just don't support public liars, those who play ugly politics, and those who support the Republican candidate against the other Democratic candidate. But you know that. There are polls showing HRC's negatives, and she's brought it on herself. She was a shining candidate when she started.
It is funny how some, including Clinton say that Obama was knocked off stride because of the “probing” questions. As if Obama reacting to the stupid questions was being knocked off stride. He was walking through a mine field that Clinton did not have to walk through. Hopefully the people of Pennsylvania are not stupid and will be able to decipher this for what it was.
rb @ 108:
You left out the part about the "beer" was actually things like infrastructure, fire and police protection, and military (mostly), all of which helped the richest man continue to make so much money (and also helped the others make their money). You also left out the part about the bartender rebating the $20 under the condition that it continue to accrue interest such that their children would have to pay it back to the tune of $50-$100 in years to come. Oh, and that whatever money the people had left over went to pay for basic necessities, all of whose prices continued to climb, such that the poorest in the group were living hand to mouth despite working 60 hours a week (if they were lucky enough to have a job).
Yeah, poor poor rich guy. I know that my wife and I, with our six figure income, are so much worse off than the unemployed, since we're subject to unfair taxes. Right.
Back to McCain. The democrats will blow his cover as soon as Hill figures out that she can’t win. Putting McCain in his place will be like shooting ducks in a barrel. The examples that Steve Bensen put up are the tip of the iceberg.
We need to get after the media for their double standards. What are we waiting for? Lets get started and send some e-mails. You blogs have the power to do it just give us the links.
Filthy Harry @ 123:
I agree with you 100%. Bush overspent and angered myself and many conservatives.
BTW, McCain, like him or not, has lead the charge to end earmarks.
They wealthier pay more in taxes, because they earn more. But they also get all the shelters, all the off-shore accounts, all the estate tax breaks and capital gains tax decreases, to end up paying less in actual percentages than the working class and lower.
Tax breaks to improve the economy should be used for the greater part of the population, not the lesser. That would be the working and middle classes. Afterall, by sheer numbers they are the consumers who support 2/3's of our GDP. Sure the wealthier can buy luxury items, but even they don't do so as often as all that. Highway and infrastructer repairs and constructions would actually create jobs that aren't out-sourced, and benefit any and all who use them, regardless of income level and disparity.
Additionally in an economy as bad as presently due to Republican mismanagement, now is not the time for tax cuts, when the government has to step in and increase it's part of the GDP (Government, businesses and households), if the latter two decrease theirs, or the economy collapses. And the governments money is from taxes. Otherwise they have to borrow money which further lowers our dollar value.
And on top of that when governments give any kind of tax breaks, on the government's side of the equation it's a form of government spending.
Dr. Biitter Hussein Matt @ 125:
Thank you. On Joe Scarborough's shitty morning show(yeah I watch that BS) he only reads columnists who criticize and chastise Obama, trying to give the impression that the MSM hates the guy.
rb @ 132:
Yeah, I am sure. Just like he's FOR campaign finance reform for everyone but himself.
Next...
dennis @ 114:
And how long ago was it that McCain was polling below Rudy, Mittens and friends, running out of money? Once the Democratic nomination shakes out, McCain will need help. But you can't provide it, dennis- and I think it's because there's no helping him, not because you don't feel he needs the help.
Again, rather than showing "concern" over the "fears" of Democrats, why don't you attempt to make a case for your boy?
And, as I pointed out the other day, you're projecting your own perceptions on us when you write crap like:
...I thought they appreciated elitists there.
rb @ 132:
[emphasis added]
Did that charge begin before or after he got caught with his hand in Keating's pocket?
rb @ 132:
Except for the earmarks that McCain likes, AND earmarks are hardly the problem with the economy. So far McCain has show that he plans on basically doing the same thing that Bush has done.
But back to your story problem, lets examine a little deeper and see that the beer the wealthier people get tastes MUCH better. And that the kids of those wealthy people will probably never have to pay for their best tasting beer either. In fact the wealthy person in the bar may not be paying for his beer anyway seeing as his money may have been handed down to him.
Finally most importantly, if the bartender said, guys, the bar is in bad shape, I need you all to dig a little deeper to help us all out, i know I'd be happy to help out.
I see a lot of "concern" from the righties around here about taxes. I wonder if they know how much the war of choice started by Republican George W. Bush is going to cost them, their children, and their grandchildren?
Funny how they always rush to change the subject when that topic comes up.
Dr. Acula @ 135:
Two weeks ago he introduced a bill to end earmarks. This is not a joke. It got voted down 70% to 30%.
BTW, he doesn't accept earmarks for Arizona.
rb @ 140:
Loves him some war, though...
And war is expensive...
Andy K Jong Il @ 137:
Grandpa learned his lesson....or pocketed enough cash.
Rusty Shackleford @ 139:
Yes the Republicans run up the deficit and the debt and then the fiscally responsible Democrats try to find a way to pay off that debt and the Republicans give them shit. Now McCain is talking about a gas tax holiday. To add to the deficit and the debt. How the hell is McEconomics going to pay for fixing the roads and the bridges and mow the grass in the middle of the freeways? He’ll borrow more fucking money. These Republicans are bankrupting this country and the people of this country.
rb @ 140:
But he wont vote to support the troops.
rb @ 140:
Sorry, introducing bills and a metrocard will get you on the subway. The fact is despite his rhetoric he does engage in earmarking.
Someone once said, "If you want something from the government vote Democratic, but when it comes time to pay vote Republican."
Captain Elitist Hussein Kangaroo @ 143:
Too true. I mean, think of how much it will cost to bomb, bomb, bomb Iran, as McCain would like to do. Bombs are expensive, and Iran is a huge country. It will be incredibly costly, not only in blood (which doesn't much matter to Republicans, since it isn't their blood) but in treasure (which does matter to Republicans). Add that to the cost of McCain's "occupy Iraq for at least a hundred years" plan, and we're running into some real money.
Fortunately, fiscally conservative Republicans could never support a candidate like that. Could they?
The Elite Rusty Shackleford @ 147:
Check out the very conservative Kevin Phillips on NPR's Morning Edition the other day. This economy is in trouble. Big trouble.
