McCain campaign spends $2,546.56 at Barney's
This is in Beverly Hills, mind you.
Expensive Taste
$2,546.56
That's how much cashola John McCain's campaign spent March 2 at Barney's New York in Beverly Hills. (That's 90212, in case anyone was wondering.)
According to McCain's latest FEC report, the charges were "credited back" April 2.
Oh, my. What are they doing in such an elitist establishment? And who was doing the shopping? We need a name for this one people. Prada-gate---Barney-Gate---McCain-90212...
I think this is a job for Ben Smith.

Seriously, that's not much money, but then I know what a good suit costs. My son spends good money for the suits he has. A good suit hangs perfectly. I would advise any man, if you you're going to get a suit or a sports jacket, get the best.
Barney's in Beverly Hills, huh? Seems kind of, I don't know... elitist?
Eh, these types don't care about such "Liberal" concepts as logic and reason. I know that because I deal with them on and offline.
Well it's good to know he is helping the economy by spending Cindy's money! What a man of the people.
Dont suppose the old geezer spending a little of Cindy's cash on that new Intern Mgr, Miss South Carolina Ashley Zais do you?
better check the viagra prescription.
I'd really rather see a story on Hillary playing the fear card, again, today in PA with her Osama ad. This is yet another stupid McCain story lacking substance. Hit him on points, not where he shops for Christsake.

I didn't they were such friends:

I don't see this as being much of an issue....unless you're Republican, Hillary or the MSM.
McCain is campaigning today to help Karl Rove at the scene of the crime.
Alabama.
Just heard...
The new AP board news ( Murdoch ) Obama story...

Prabhata @ 1:
Why not a "straittalk jacket" for the straight talker.
John, you lost me on this one.
in 90212, that's sock money!
he's a public figure with a very wealthy wife, and he won't be shopping @ Marshall's any time soon.
I recall this blog being quite upset about ABC's non-sense debate.
where we going?
how about covering Tony Snow's move to CNN?
Tony Snow on CNN!!! WTF! I've said it before and I'll say it again, CNN IS Faux News lite. What ever creditibility CNN had is long gone.
Left&Left @ 8:
That about covers it.
Seems grasping to me.
If this were even out of line, which it isn't, how would it differ from the John Edward's haircuts?
mcsame is a fucking adulterer elitist reichwingneocon.
when his mouth moves, he lies.
I vote for McCain 90210. Is McCain wearing his flag lapel pin?
forget the amount...when did clothes shopping become allowed under fec rules?
btw, had to be a sale...suits are closer to 3k at barney's....i know, i live close by and like to window shop there
Geez Ben, can't we have a little fun? For years Democrats have been called weak, immoral, and shallow elitists. Besides, I wish I had a couple of thousands to spend on something other than bills and gasoline.
Thats how much real food costs these days with the declining buck.
They could have gone to McDonald's and saved a lot if they were willing to eat fake food with zero nutritional value.
A weak retaliation for Edward's haircut.
Ben @ 14:
Only in the measure of hypocrisy involved.
OT, but chris matthews did it again. Tonight on his show he asked his guest if Obama had gotten to the hearts of the white working class in Pennsylvania. Then Matthews said, you know, the regular Democrats?
Here's how out of touch I am. When I read the headline for this post I thought that he spent that much money at the Barney's coffee shop. I was thinking jeez the dude must have gotten the world biggest caffeine buzz.
What she buy a garters and panties set?
Rusty Shackleford the Pretentious Chatboard Elitist @ 2:
Nah, Rusty, elitist would be if McCain immediately then went to a Billionaire's Row fundraiser in Brentwood and explained why it is everyone in big cities couldn't just go out and buy a suit like the one he's got on; that their bitterness over not having nice things like that makes them cling to Democratic levers in the voting booths, and he needs to overcome that by explaining to them the value of hard work and determination. Enlightenment, so to speak.
meh
Well, his wife's $100 million can buy lots of shoes. Not to mention Cindy McCain's "family recipes" probably sell for teh big bucks.
I followed that "that's Beverly hills, mind you" link and found this update:
"UPDATE: McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said the campaign's card was stolen."
I'd bet decent money Barneys has an all star list of the Rich and Famous from all sides shopping there.
Names that would shock some followers. Though some may say "well he-she deserves it. After all they worked hard to be famous!"
I dont care.
So if what his campaign person says is true, they must have a copy of the policeman's report when they reported the credit card stolen. They might want to release a copy of that copy. You know, just to prove they aren't fudging on the story.
Hey Crooks and Liars--Thanks for doing your part to take the pettiness out of Presidential politics. There's plenty wrong with McCain's position on the war, healthcare and fiscal policy. Leave the rest to the tabloids.
umm..so?
dennis @ 24:
That didn't even make any sense. You're losing it, dennis.
I have never spent more than $25.00 at Barney’s Beanery and I’ve been there a lot------WHAT--------- it’s not the same place? Never mind!
Is this a $400 haircut story? It's nothing to wealthy people, even if it shocks us.
I was just browsing Barney's in New York website. Hell, Cindy could barely buy two Prada handbags for that amt of money.
(bitter) Edwin Hussein @ 34:
People are numbed to the fact theres Crooks and Liars. "What else is new?"
Might have to find a new approach to liven things up a bit before we fall asleep.
Prabhata @ 1:
Yeah, that's great advice in this economy. Most people can't afford the best, let alone any suit at all.
I still think that's a lot of money to spend just for a place to hang your damn flag pin.
is that an attack on blogger Ben Smith? If so, way to go!
Prabhata @ 1:
Thats true. The cheap option is to buy a cheap suit that looks cheap and falls apart in 30 days.
I have a pair of jeans 20 years old. Still mint condition but they don't make things like they used to the old saying goes.
He John - connect the dots.

plastic @ 38:
Never heard of him. And thats part of the problem with the blog world. To many idiots can rant and rave at will.
"omg I'm a star now cuz I have my own blog, it's like so kewl!"
pissed off patricia @ 29:
POP: None of us, yet, know the facts. However, if as McCain's FEC report indicates
the charges were "credited back"...sounds as if maybe credit card was stolen or misused
and reported, and that the credit card co., when notified of same, reversed the charges
as they supposedly do with any stolen card. Just saying..
Isn't that part of Beverly Hills really run down? kind of a slum area?
Doggiebobo @ 42:
True! What you said makes total sense.
My mind is fuzzy now from looking at the cost of some of the stuff at Barney's. If I were a crook and had someones credit card that's where I would go too. Between the purses and the shoes, damn I had such a good imaginary time.
I wonder who Richard Mellon Scaife endorsed.
http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&resnum=0&um=1&tab=wn&q=richard+mellon+
Quite a bizzare character.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Mellon_Scaife
Alot of bizzare political party incest going on.
I bet what he really bought was a 'blue stained dress' for that repiglican used c_nt called Tweety Matthews .........
I'm glad that I now know this... I'm lying. Seriously, this is the equivalent of the Edwards haircut story. This isn't important.
Who gives a crap. Is this supposed to be better than the $300 Edwards haircut meme.
Grow up.
Funny, because Corporate News Nonsense seems to see it differently. I mean, compared to those wealthy Clintons and Obamas, Gone InSane is a friggen pauper.
Johnny2Bad @ 49:
X @ 48:
Yeah, that's the point, folks.
Too bad the couldn't throw in a few Iraqi rugs, for, say, five bucks?
big fucking deal he likes nice clothes
The super rich (millionaires on up) I'm guessing make up about 1% of the American population, of that perhaps 20% to 30% of them are moral and would vote against their own financial interests just to bring America back to the moral high ground...so that leaves less then 0.7% of the population, super rich AND immoral, that should normally vote Republican. Since it is in the financial interests of plus 99% of American to vote Democrat how on Earth do Republicans keep winning elections??? Does that mean half of America is grossly immoral even at the expense of their own financial interests???
We know in America that's not the case but that's the way it looks to the rest of the World, because the rest of the World can't believe that a country with our wealth, good schools and freedom can have so many brainwashed working class people...we're supposed to have good schools and a free press at least that what the rest of the world thinks...they know many Americans are good but less than 50%???...anyway that's the way it looks to our neighbors, because we are not a dictatorship where people have no choice, we are free, supposedly.
jeff @ 53:
Exactly. Besides every goddamn politician, both sides of the aisle, are elitists.
joe! @ 55:
See Karen's comment @ 51. I think the post is supposed to be a snark about how time gets wasted this way on any non-GOP candidate, but is passed over in the case of McFittedgarment.
Elitist!! Maybe they were looking for somebody McCain could have a beer with?
Will ABC's corporate shills George and Charles badger McCain with such "pressing" issues as to why his campaign is shopping at Barney's? And not one person wearing a flag lapel pin!
Ben @ 14:
About $2400. I would think... cept the Edwards story was false from the beginning. Look it up1
Rusty Shackleford the Pretentious Chatboard Elitist @ 33:
Mixed metaphors, I believe.
Is McCain going to get arrested for breaking campaign finance laws?
jeff @ 53:
Because that is going to offset his Frankenstein-looking sewed face ?
I won't hold my breath for the foxnews stories about this all day like they did Edwards haircut.
jeff @ 53:
Edwards likes $400 haircuts. Remains to be seen if the traditional media gives this "story" the same coverage.
Ruthless People @ 63:
Why should MSM give it same coverage. See my No. 43 above. Sure sounds/appears
to me that someone "other" than McCain/staff actually used the credit card for purchases....and if so, this is a total "NON-story"..
That's roughly the price for a massage with 'Happy Ending'.
Doggiebobo @ 64:
If it turns out to be true, then I wonder if the MSM will give it the same airtime as Edwards's haircut. That's really my point.
Karen @ 51:
What's the point? It isn't important? Nope. It ain't.
BEFORE YOU JUDGE.... JOHN 'THE REPUBLICAL' MCCAIN WAS WITH.....TWO OTHER PEOPLE
SO DONT FORGET TO DIVIDE BEFORE YOU MAKE FUN!!!
Hold on here... McCain's using campaign finance money for personal expenses? Only when... and now... that he's outed he'll credit it back? Bullshit!
The man's a millionaire ten times over and he doesn't have a measly three grand? Credit card anyone?
Shopping at Barney's. What's wrong with Men's Warehouse?
This country needs a man/woman who is not only for the people but, actually is one of us.
The rEVOLution will be televised!!!
Ruthless People @ 66:
I concur totally; but there is that big IF, and you and I know the
answer..."No Way Jose"..
Johnny2Bad @ 49:
if this came out of campaign funds...it is a big deal
go away troll boy, you bother me
uncle joe hussein mccarthy @ 71:
No, if it came out of campaign funds it is not a big deal. Kids younger than I am (26 yrs.) being delivered home in black rubber bags from Iraq, for example, is a big deal. A $30 Billion subsudy for JP Morgan to bail out Bear Stearns (only 18 hours after the chaos ensues), while we have dedicated less over a 5-year period to rebuild New Oreans, is a big deal.
This is not only completely un-newsworthy, but is totally not a big deal. You, sir, should not only go away, but also stay away from keyboards...
bill w @ 10:
LOL. Good answer.
McCain may shop at Barney's but no matter how well his suit is cut, he'll still end up looking like a mortician's dummy.
For real.
repug talking heads keep telling us we haven't seen anything until the general election.
Let's get it on!
The McCains are multi-millionaires. They spent $2500 at Barney's. BFD!
Who needs to be outraged over $200 haircuts for Democrats when you've got these guys tarting things up? Yeah, I know, the McCain campaign spokesman said their credit card was stolen. Snicker! But even if so, that just ought to remind us how, if McCain becomes president, the national credit card will remain stolen.
Remember the trash talk about Kerry having married a rich woman , not a word though about McCain and this wealthy bleach blond mannequin wife who follows him around .
