Foiled in ‘Operation Chaos,’ Rush Limbaugh Tries ‘Operation KAOS’
McCain's ad about wasteful government spending on Grizzly Bear genetics in Montana is an example of how little he understands how research goes on in ecology and biology.
He is not an environmentalist, and in fact, views knowledge of the environment as an example of waste of spending.

11:15 - Clinton Muted: Ben Smith:
I've been out on the road with Clinton for the past few days, during which she was perhaps the sharpest she's been in her political career. Forceful, clear, connecting intensely with her crowds, utterly at ease with her message.
Tonight, that energy has really, strikingly vanished.
Bill, behind her, is somber too. And she's promised, "no matter what happens," to work to pull the party together.
Chalk up another "victory" in the drug war: Our troops are looking the other way on smack in Afghanistan. The Pentagon is only now concerned about our troops getting paid.
The D.C. Sniper plays martyr. Nigeria would rather deal with Carter than Bush.
The founder of Baskin-Robbins died. Fishermen might have killed an endangered sea lion.
Indiana
I'll play your waiting game.
I'm gonna play your waiting game.
As anyone who has read Hillary Clinton's biography knows, she was born and raised in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Arkansas, New York, Wellesley, Crown Royal, and Bluecollaristan. It must be hard to keep track of, but it's getting easier thanks to supporters like the guy in the crowd of her post-primary speech tonight, who, after Clinton took a few minutes talking about how she grew up in Illinois, remembered where she said she grew up two weeks ago and yelled, "Scranton!"
"And originally from Scranton, PA, that's right!" Hillary yelled back, reminded of that day in Pennsylvania when she first conceived of the "gas tax holiday" while facing a fierce fusillade of sniper fire.(video )
Tequila @ 12:
hillary may have become an endangered candidate
Prepare for fake outrage from Faux, pedo-rush, princess, and the rest of the anti-American reich-wing crowd. It's only a matter of time before the Dems will have to vote to condemn this ad.
At least that carrot had greens at one time.
Russert say Hillary cancelled all her morning show appointments. Doesn't want to talk about what happened tonight. Sounds like the beginning of the end. Finally.

Whom ever wins the nomination would be wise to not consider another Senator as a running mate.
That presumptive winner will need as many friendlies in their coalition as they can in order to control their agenda.
The notion of an Obama/Clinton or reverse dream ticket may not be in the cards.
Radically Moderate @ 25:
It took Reagan/ Reagan/ Bush for people to figure out even a Clinton beats a Republican.
I hope it doesn't take a Bush/ Bush/ McCain for that to sink in.

But there isn't as much rebuilding to do as the media would have you think. At least not in the Dem party. New Orleans, Iraq, UN? Sure. but we know what's at stake and we aren't asleep this time.

Merle @ 353:
On my little spreadsheet, when I add the 211 Florida for divided according to the popular vote which makes 107 Clinton, Obama 71, and Michigan split evenly at 78 each, as it stands this moment, that would put Obama at 2,011 and Clinton at 1,887.
Obama was not on the ballot in Michigan, had he been, there is a very large AA presence in SE MI. The election as it was held was totally flawed.
In Michigan, the three leading candidates agreed to take their names off the ballot, Clinton reneged. So much for honorable behavior.
The race is all but over. Clinton does not have a basis to continue.
Hey-up, Bascombe AyBeeEeeBee, and thanks. It's even worse - I'm so far the first (and only) candidate ever for this particular doctorate in NZ, and if all goes well it'll open the way (and funds) for other PhD's in future. As in 'guinea pig'. As in no pressure, no pressure at all. (On the up side, I'm not competing with anyone else in the department for a scholarship... )
As for all this 'if you vote for Obama it means you're an anti-feminist Hillary basher' crap; it goes like this, see? Y'got two candidates. They do their thing, we watch, we decide which one we like the best and vote for that person. Seeings how all the people I much preferred over either one of the final two choices aren't in the running any more, I have to choose between Hillary or Obama. I prefer Obama, because I happen to think he's the more honest, less Beltway-tainted of the two. His relative youth and inexperience is actually a plus for me - it's time for fresh blood and a bit of optimistic idealism, even if slightly naive. His limited track record is, on balance, pretty damned consistently decent. Her experience may be more extensive, but it's also laced with opportunistic, special interest, lobbyist controlled political backroom dealings she's had to cover with dissembling at best, and outright lying at worst.
And the more Hillary claws onto rapidly diminishing hopes, regardless of how this further divides both the party and voters, the less I feel she has the country's best interests at heart rather than her own ambitions.
My choosing Obama over Hillary isn't because she's 'an emasculating bitch just because she won’t drop out at their convenience'. It's because Obama is the better candidate of the two. Period. It seems the majority of voters so far feel likewise, and the longer she drags it out - for whatever reason - the more resentment she's going to instill. There's a difference between Gore quitting in 2000 and Hillary quitting now - Gore hadn't lost the election, he just didn't know it; Hillary has, and she does know it. It's time for her to stop now, so we can start concentrating on winning back the White House and Congress from the neo-con Republicans.
It really is just that simple.
Anyway, GNA.
Obviously the Carrot can't win. It has no flag pin.
Implying that Hillary has testicles IS sexist, and the perpetrator of the sexism is James Carville, Clinton supporter (reading helps).
Sorry, I have not accused you of being a megalomaniac, but have accused Hillary.
And you claim that the term "bitch" was tossed around, but I did a find and replace and YOU are the only one who has used the term in a meaningful way (someone did refer to someone "bitching" about paparazzi or that Barack will have a "bitch" of a time).
Like your candidate, you seem to lie for dramatic effect.
And I am not part of a cult (another Clinton canard that you seem to be spewing), so you can give your wide brush generalizations a rest.
And you will not be missed when you leave this thread. Your use of the word "bitch" (and misrepresentations about who uses it), and your calling people "fuckers" and part of some cult, reveal you to be pretty low grade as far as intellectual exchange is concerned.
Buh-bye. You'll find a more sympathetic crowd at Red State: they write Billary's talking points.
Merle @ 359:
i'm bored. is there a democratic candidate yet? *yawn*
mparker @ 362:
The carrot stands no chance. The GOP accused it of having an out of wedlock illegitimate baby with a passion fruit in the South Carolina primary.
Barrett D @ 364:
Go to bed perhaps.
Zzzzzzz.
Republicans would argue that the above carrot has some "serious flaws" like that crack on its side. They'd argue that it indicates the carrot is imperfect and would wither under a national emergency.
Of course, they'd STILL lose to the carrot in the general election, but that would be their strategery.
Hillary can't leave the race. She has yet to find her voice in Puerto Rico! She's just getting started.
Surprise, surprise - Fox News's website's headline is "Split Decision: Clinton Wins Indiana, Obama Takes N.C." There's so much dissection that can go into this. When one candidate wins by 14% in one state and the other by 2% in the other state, is that truly a split decision? I don't really think so. Indiana by itself was a split decision, sure. Now, am I reading too much into the fact that they placed Clinton's name first? Just by sequence of events, Obama's victory was decided before Clinton's. Why would they list either one first? These decisions aren't arbitrary. Now let's look at the verbs. Clinton wins, Obama takes. Again, am I reading too much into this?
The right clearly wants Clinton to stick around. Not only because of the party-weakening aspects of a prolonged race, but they would rather see Clinton vs. McCain. Maybe they think he has a better shot against her. Maybe they think if any Democrat ends up winning in November, Clinton might be more apt to play ball with their agendas.
Eh, whatsup, doc?
Will there ever be a Bugs Bunny brand of chewable, orange-flavoured, Viagra?

Al Gore: Uncommitted Superdelegate Committed to Stopping Climate Change - http://www.treehugger.com/files/2008/05/al_gore-uncommitted_superdelegat...
Gore became impassioned as he talked about how, instead of leading, the U.S. blocked leadership in Bali regarding climate change. A twenty-year old delegate from Papua New Guinea famously addressed the U.S. delegation with, “If for some reason you are not willing to lead, leave it to the rest of us,” he said. “Please, get out of the way.” And the rest of the world’s representatives cheered. Our delegation finally effectively said, “Ok, we'll get out of way.” A shameful episode in U.S. history, whose retelling nearly brought Gore to tears.
Gore thinks that, if we take action, China and India will join the U.S. in confronting the environmental crisis. Japan and Germany, he said, are already there. But we need to stop borrowing money from China to buy oil from Saudi Arabia.
Gore stated, China could be brought into being a part of the solution to the crisis. And they already have better auto standards and tree-planting efforts than we do.
Al also addressed the pathetic state of a media obsessed with stories about Paris Hilton and “KFed,” saying the media needs to remember that they are providing a public service, and are not just a business. The same number of questions in the 2008 election have been asked about UFO sightings as about climate change.
And, had we stuck with the solar efforts started in the 1970’s during the oil crisis, he said, we would not be in the situation we are now. Solar energy, a longtime passion for Gore, can, he said, supply all our energy needs if we can figure out how to properly recover it. Buried transmission lines can bring energy from areas with abundant sunshine to the areas that need energy the most. The results would be less debt, and fuel that would eventually be free.
And on the other end of the spectrum of reality OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WHY?: Nukes for all, McCain calls for 700+ new nuclear plants costing $4 trillion - http://gristmill.grist.org/story/2008/5/5/17528/37750

Neocon Theater of the Absurd & Clueless: White Houses, Right Whales and Moby Dick Cheney: by Michael Winship - http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2008/05/06/8757/
As the candidates engage in an ultimately pointless, fruitless debate over whether or not to give the gasoline tax a summer holiday, the Office of Vice President Dick Cheney secretly has been developing a quaintly 19th century solution to the energy crisis. Whaling. At least, that’s one possible conclusion you might draw from last week’s report out of California Congressman Henry Waxman’s House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
"Obama now has 1,592 pledged delegates to Clinton's 1,419. There are 217 delegates remaining to be pledged. Of those 217, Clinton would need to win 196 to beat Obama, or a victory of 90 percent to 10 percent. That's about as likely as Dick Cheney hitting 50 percent approval."

Debunking the Gas Tax Scam: It’s the Profits Stupid! Exxon's Rising Take from America: Will the Proposed Gas Tax Holiday Really Help? - http://thewip.net/contributors/2008/05/its_the_profits_stupid_the_ris.html
The gas-tax holiday proposal would only work if gas companies were not allowed to pocket that 18.4 cent difference by increasing pump prices anyway, to somewhere just below an 18.4 cent rise – which would leave the total price almost the same. Somehow, trusting and gas companies don’t quite fit together.
Indeed according to Slocum, “This is pointless pandering. There’s no guarantee prices will actually fall 18.4 cents, plus the Highway Trust Fund that the tax promotes is in need of the money, particularly for mass transit investment (which would be energy-friendly).”

morning xoites
if anyone will give me 20 to 1 odds, i'll bet a buck that clinton pulls a lieberman....runs as an independent (after going all the way to the convention)
actually, she might actually have a shot at winning that way, if you think about it...if she picks a really good Veep.... after all, there is essentially no contender on the republican side......
obama should be able to unify the party pretty easily, once hillary clinton bows from the race. he never did throw the kitchen sink, as hillary clearly did, in plain view, for every american to witness.
even when down by 25 points, obama never brought up the real dirt he could have brought up. sure, his supporters did, and i am certainly guilty as charged. but obama kept an even keel and a level head.
clinton won't be his vp. we'll need her in the senate. and america truly needs an opportunity to not have to vote for or against a ticket with the names clinton or bush -for the first time since 1976.
he was probably never his choice for vp, either. i assumed it would be evan bayh.
there are plenty of other qualified women obama could invite to his ticket, plenty not in congress, which is what really matters.
more than anything, i hope he finds a vp like him, who will carry on his (and our) agenda faithfully, should he pass away. no military-industrial trojan horse, like lbj. no corporatist reptile like lieberman.
finally, i'm w/ mystic, above. i pray obama's secret service don't get haughty, or careless. all eyes are on you, gents. take care of our guy, history shows us there are nut jobs who take cheap shots.
so, any of you out there of the prayin' type, say a few words for our presumptive nominee, the senator from illinois.

Biden- "

Reps
Kucinich, Frank, McDermott- Don't know Reps too well but I'd be happy with any one of these three on the ticket.
Military
Clark-Nope to much with Clinton
Hagel- No, but definetly should be Sec. Defense, and announced before November.
Sestak- Too new, but should be an asset to the Democratic party. Good withdrawl plan.
Powell- Really?
Any other Military-Industrial connected candidates- No, too much anxiety of itchy fingers.

Gravel- Love it, but come on.
Bloomberg- No thanks, maybe Sec. Treasury?
Dashel- Meh, nah.
Nunn- Meh, nah.
Gore- Heh, sure why not?
Any other "safe white guy" pick- No, for the same reason as military guys, sorry to say.
Govs-The key to victory.
Richardson- Sure, but I'd rather he were Sec. State
Patrick- Too much too soon. Would be fun to listen to though.

so it'll essentially be a contest between obama and clinton....all the way to the whitehouse.....mccain will be ignored and laughed at, as he is now, as he will be forever by history...

Technically, this thing has been over ever since Wisconsin and Obama put it to bed when he split Texas. The media has been carrying her ever since then.
I think this goes on to May 20th so she can raise money to pay off her debts. She won't put much money into West Virginia and Kentucky because she'll win those by default and concede Oregon. They should stop running against each other and just run against Bush and McCain. Obama should win Oregon and clinch the pledged delegate total, and Hillary will have two more victories under her belt to exit with grace.
Split Michigan 50/50 and let Hillary win Florida 55-45 to get them seated.
diamondmc @ 414:
thanks diamondmc, I'll be here, you can count on that.
I was checking the Electoral Map for both 2000 and 2004, and boosh won both Indiana and South Carolina both times, although with Florida and then Ohio, we can't be sure how honestly.

it's over for sane people, non-racist people, and flexible supporters (ie, not the "my girl do or die" type)
that leaves clinton, who is in it until she breaks from the party in august.... and the "my girl do or die" types to fuss and fight..... but really, not many are paying attention to them anymore....
it's a very smart strategy though, and might indeed work...

Hillary just lent herself 6.5 million this morning. Besides being behind in delegate counts, states won she now has real money problems. It is time for super delegates to step up to the plate and end this one way or another.
diamondmc @ 426:
she's running until she splits Independent in august...
she's a genius...
i think it might work....and it's all fair....who needs a decrepit old sold out party, loaded with the likes of murtha and rockefeller
ohio progressive @ 423:
Need a little clarification on your last sentence...whose strategy are you referring to? (sorry, I have a head cold and I just ain't thinkin real sharp today)
You have no idea. You'll never get it.
liberalHUSSEINmoderation @ 428:
she'll do what lieberman did...
she'll keep lowblowing obama until august...who knows, maybe he'll snap and lowblow back....they both look worse when they go at it....she trounced him in that last debate....
so the convention hands it to obama with a slight margin....she walks away with many of the delegates, starting some new party.....mccain is not a contender....so why should obama get a free ride in november.....
a 3 way debate between obama, clinton and mccain?...i think she'd wipe the floor with both of them (unless obama really improves....)
you heard it here first....
clinton is a genius, and i think this might actually work...
she won't get my vote, don't get me wrong...but she will get the white house

At least in these rebuilding years the Dems have a lot of good prospects and a few rising superstars to help carry the team and the Country.

If things continue the same way, he picks up 56K. She gets 20K.
The 20K lead for Clinton turns into a 16K victory for Obama.

Don't ya even consider mucking about with my Senator! We need him to counter all the crazy Republicans in this corner of the state.
porkchop @ 28:
It seems certain to me that a Dem will win the White House.
However with an asshat like Mitch Mcconnell as the minority leader in the Senate, that Dem Prez will need perhaps a minimum of 55 Dems to move the agenda along. Also that Dem Prez would more than likely only have a time table of 2 years to set thing right before the 2010 election that might switch the House or Senate back to the Repugs.
ohio progressive @ 427:
You might want to read this about Clinton and think otherwise. She is no genius and splitting off to run as an independent would be political suicide.
www.commondreams.org/archive/2008/05/04/8702/
diamondmc @ 426:
Clinton has lent her campaign a total to date, as reported by CNN today, of 11.4 million dollars.
This from Howard Wolfson described as her 'campaign advisor'.
Obama has:
won more states
won more votes
won more delegates
raised substantially more money from substantially more donors
and not rung up a string of unpaid bills along the way
I would be interested to know where Wolfson thinks that Clinton is competitive, other than her own mind.
It is over.
Wow, there so much flaming going on her today, for a moment I thought I walked into a drag-queen review.
ohio progressive @ 430:
Ok Now I see...she may split indie as you say...but grab the WH... pffffft!! No way!
The Repugs are chompin at the bit to run against her. They have SO MUCH AMMO to use against her. And as for her speaking prowess...I am not impressed...she's so bloody fake...it's ridiculous! She wants the office so desperately, she's willing to say anything to anyone, and THAT will be her undoing.
ysbaddaden @ 433:
HA! Oh thtop it you thavage!
Finally Timeh acknowledges all my emails!!!! It is about fucking time. Now it is your turn to send your emails. Let them know.
Anyone that thinks Clinton will run as an independent should remember '92.
Bill Clinton unseated George I because would have been President Perot received 19 million votes, taking more from the Republicans than the Democrats.
Without Perot in '92 it would have been Bush and not Clinton.
